The first act of TW3 and its myriad resolutions is literally the best single segment of video game writing in history. Hideofags didn't finish college. Karpyshynfags please go and take your flakey never-finish with you. Avellonefags might have an argument.
>Avellonefags might have an argument.
explain the Avellone meme.
>Winning or losing the race against him in the Ciri memory has no impact other than the cutscene afterwards
>But losing leaves the quest log with a FAILED mark
>Redo and win
My OCD was stronger

It's not a side quest but yeah it definitely hit the nail on the head in my case and made me realise how much of a whore a woman can be, Jesus...
how did a bunch of drunk Slavs outperform Bethesda
Actually play Planescape Torment without spoiling it or being a bitch about outdated gameplay. Cheat if you have to. Dude's a good writer.
Also did a good job during his tenure as CCO of Obsidian in general, they made most of their best (creative) work under him. Can hardly blame a creative designer/director for technical issues and the writing, taken alone, is millenia beyond anything else the games industry offers, at bare minimum in terms of sophistication and consistent quality. It's not a high bar, though. Games writing is truly atrocious and more people should talk about it, the best AAA games are cringier than the latest Transformers and less elevated.
That said, there are plenty of reasons to play games aside from quality storytelling.
which other games aside from that?
Seeing how as, and I'm being completely serious here, Bethesda's in-house games have an average reading level between 6th and 8th grade, it probably wasn't too challenging.
can someone spoil first act of TW3 for me then i have too many games on my backlog
>randomly stumbled on the spirit and freed it
Rip kids, I guess.
Oh well, at least the cuck baron lives.
KOTOR II, Fallout 2, Fallout New Vegas, Alpha Protocol, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer were all produced during his tenure as CCO of Obsidian Entertainment, iirc. He did a great job bringing those projects together creatively. A shame that many of them had technical shortcomings or were subject to poor budgeting decisions (very short marketing budgets and post-production timelines, namely.)
and that they're not afraid of showing off their polska titties
Here, check this pic. It explains why quest in TW3 sooooo shiiiiieeeeettt
I won't claim it has some kind of resounding impact on the plot of the rest of the game, the way a true fan boy would try to stretch the late-game references. But taken as a self-contained story and area, the first act can proceed, resolve, and leave behind very different things.
It's actually pretty unique in covering all those bases. A lot of games will have a slightly different setting, or choices to make during the quest, or different endings, but I struggle to think of another instance on this scale (hours of gameplay) where another game nailed all three.
Why did you free it? It didn't seem like a good spirit to me so I killed it and let the kids die. I already fucked up with the plague maiden, I didn't want to get fooled twice
Yes, absolutely.
>complaining about the best ending
This is actually one of my gripes with the game. The human intrigue feels so utterly disconnected from the save the world plot / chasing Ciri that it causes pretty significant dissonance, particularly when running around Skellige playing kingmaker. Most of the characters you interact with have nothing of value to add to the main plot or even ask interesting questions of Geralt.
They gloss over Ciri being a dimensional traveler because Geralt is a simple man, which ends up being part of some point the game is trying to make, but it doesn't resolve the tension that existed for hours and hours beforehand between chasing after a literal god-child and sniffing out trolls for the local Baron.
It also made the DLC feel a bit weak, though I really did love them as standalone experiences. Comparing them to saving Ciri and chasing after her for 200 hours makes them seem like wastes of time both in-universe and without.
I would say the final third of HoS beats that.
Don't remind me of Origins, user. It still hurts.
I haven't played origins in a while but I don't ever remember it even being that good except for a few parts.
Help I'm still doing this quest but I can't find the wife so I ended up doing the other story quest and I'm now in the middle of that one. I didn't want to google the answer so I figure I'll pick it up eventually.
It's part of the main quest
I enjoyed it a ton when it came out, but replaying it now it doesn't seem half as good.
That's actually fair, HoS is probably the best story told through a video game, come to think of it. I had discounted it as DLC but that's not reasonable.
Though there is a particularly weak component, imo. I think they really dropped the ball (by comparison to itself alone) on Olgierd's wife and the related mansion mission. It really killed the pace and locked you in a single location for an unreasonable amount of time, asking you to make a pointless choice that changes two lines of dialogue, but is built up to for almost an hour and a half of gameplay.
If that had been a bit stronger, I think you'd be waiting a long time before we see a rival in quality. And as far as DLC goes, we'll probably be waiting decades regardless.
the worst thing about witcher 3 are those question marks, its Ubisoft style open world and it sucks dick, even Skyrim doesn't have that crap
Since the Crones imprisoned it, I figured the enemy of my enemy and so on
It was great when it came out, a fantasy cRPG of decent quality with a good name behind it hadn't been made since NWN2. That was a solid 3 year gap. People missed the genre and so naturally it was overrated.
It's almost impossible to enjoy now given that, with most choices and the DLCs, it ends on several cliffhangers and the resolutions available are contained in two of the worst AAA games ever made.
CAREFUL, Sup Forums
The Baron's Wife is part of the main quest. Finish both the Baron and Keira's branches of the Velen arc and you'll pick up a lead on her.
Thanks. In the middle of killing the monster for the witches at the moment.
The only thing worse than an autist is a pedantic asshole autist turned off by some trivial visual feature in a video game.
Like just take a minute and think about what you're typing out. Your biggest gripe with the video game is a question mark.
But you won't think about it. You'll just get mad and start typing defensive shit. You deserve yourself.
gonna need details my man
how does it do this?
You know nearly all of those quests can be done without the witcher vision. You only use it if you're struggling since the clues can be seen by the naked eye normally.
He´s not though, you can just set free his baby and go on you way.
Watch a video or something man, it's the entire first act of a video game that can take upwards of 400 hours to beat. I think I spent 22 or something on it, I'm not gonna try to remember and summarize all that shit AND look up the alternative endings for you. Come on.
The three crones was hands down the best written part of tw3. In fact the game gets worse as it goes on writing wise.
I enjoyed toussaint but they fucked it up with that gay regis vs edgy other vampire stuff
CDPR is generally weak at writing, the games could have been god tier but thats their weak point.
Im a polack btw
WINE
THAT BOAR WAS A WHOOOOOOOORE. MORE WINE
Now that I just confronted you with your miscarried daughter turned vampire, wanna play some gwent?
HoS is just a video game adaptation of a widely popular polish children's story
They just went balls out with weird ethnic ukrainian stuff which shouldn't even be there and its jarring but for a nonslav its probably cool and novel
I just see it as "muh culture: the DLC" and its not even that
>Imagine being this asshurt when someone has something to say abot your game
Witcherfags everyone.
The story is one thing but there's also the execution. HoS does a good job building up the character and unraveling the mysteries behind them. If you just summarize it as "a children's story", yeah, but that's glossing over all the details that made it charming.
>They just went balls out with weird ethnic ukrainian stuff
I know you think they are hohol cossacks, but they are supposed to be Poplish-Lithuanian Szlachta with a heavy emhasis on sarmatism.
Google that shit.
i tried googling it but all i found were walkthroughs or hour long videos
now im delving into the wiki, designed as they all are in the most autistic way possible, just to find out what happens in this quest that everyone gushes over
Right version
CHISWICK! FRESH HORSES!

>video game that can take upwards of 400 hours to beat
What? I took my time and did everything in 150 hours. I'll probably replay it to make different choices but I doubt it would take me more than 100 hours
Avellone wrote like 10% of Planescape Torment, I'd wish this meme would end.

DA:O is a 6/10 at best. It's a pretty good game to immediately identify people with extremely low standards in RPGs and fantasy fiction.
top: straighforward choice - be a jew and get token reward or be charitable and befriend the trader who will give you directions and later gives you a discount
Bottom: absolutely meaningless dialogue that leads nowhere, literally 5 ways to say same fucking thing
First of all it's not a side quest
Second of all Morrowind runs circles around Witcher 3 main plot, and Oblivion side quests are better than Witcher 3 side quests. Thief Guild and Assassins Guild especially.
So fuck off
>not a side quest
Bethesdrones are this delusional
I will never understand fanboys thinking this DLC and Gaunter O'Meme are some sort of groundbreaking shit
The only good part of it is the wedding, because that's what Witcher 3 was best at, crowds , activities, bits of polish folklore.
Gaunter O'Meme played more like some anime villain than a well done omnipotent devil figure.
>dude random chitchat about time travel and dough even though It doesn't tie into the story at all
>I'm not ever gonna stop talking and gonna hand over relationship advice
>dude Imma stop time and stab a random dude in the eye so badass to show I can do what I want but I somehow can't because some asshole beat me at a "puzzle"
CDPR don't know anything about subtlety
well i finally found out what the hubbub was about
some dumb woman ruined everything, again
or as kotaku put it, "murdered a man his wife was seeing"
Every dumb faggot in this thread, and I know it's bait saying that the 'Variety of choices and plot' of The Dragon Age games are superior to Witcher 3 are morons.
OK, fair point about origins, and about the origin and the endings in origins and maybe inquisition, you do have a fairly large impact but those choices mostly only occur at the end of a major area, which are clearly, neatly defined and obvious, but it's almost always binary.
In The Witcher, no you dont have 5 options to say the same fucking thing. No, you dont get to make your own character, you're playing as Geralt, to be immersed in the lore and story of this world.
However, You have *No* fucking idea what side quests are going to end up being important to the overall plot, you dont have any idea what decisions you made in the previous games are going to come back. And what they change, for the vast majority of the game while your choices seem more limited on the surface, in the long term they are more subtle, but more impactful and meaningful. Depending upon various actions, the way you roleplay as geralt, the kind of man he is to you, That determines what his choices do to impact the world. And big, big changes, which you arent just told, you see. You see the burnings, you see the changing guards, you hear the screams and the cheers, you get to walk and view first hand what you've done. and all of it adds up, and it all matters. every bit of it It's not like ME3 where you have to choose one of 3 pre-set options. or one of two with DAII, (Though Origins handled the ending really fucking well to it's credit) Witcher 3 looks back on how you played, and the choices you made along the way, how things turned out and that ends up being the final ending. Not Red/blue/green. But what kind of man you are. And because of it, you can leave the world a much better place, a much worse place, or...well who the hell really knows?
That's why Witcher 3 is so fucking good. It's not black and white.
Lmfao, did you even play Morrowind or are you just parroting Sup Forums faggots? Because if you did, you would know it has some of the shittest side quests out of any RPG.
Oblivion has top tier quests and better than Witcher 3s imo, but not fucking Morrowind
Oblivion fighters guild quest:
>Get quest of a "rat problem"
>Go to the house
>Turns out the rats themselves aren't the problem
>Turns out the rats are the clients pet
>Turns out mountain lions are killing the rats
>Kill the mountain lions
>Turns out more keep coming
>Seek out a local hunter to find their nest
>Find their den and kill all the mountain lions
>Turns out the problem still hasn't stopped
>Need to wait around at night time to see where they are coming from
>Turns out the neighbour hates the filthy rats and has been placing raw meet in a near by hole in the side of the house that attracts mountain lions
>Deal with the neighbour
>Quest completed
Morrowind fighters guild quest
>Hear about a "rat problem"
>Kill the 3 rats
>Quest completed
Witcher 3s a Tower of Mice/Carnal Sins etc shit on any Morrowind quest.
Oblivion > Witcher 3 >>>>> dogshit >>>>> Skyrim >>>>> Morrowinds side quests
Sorry, your omnipotent devil figure wasn't a dapper, mustache twirling, superficial archetype that's been done each millennium.
How's this for subtle. He's following you the entire game. You dont even notice until it's pointed out to you.
I suppose if you rewrote your post without the 20 different buzzwords inside, it would warrant a discussion.
You talk like some marketer before the game even released. We've played the game, it's nothing like your marketing babble. The most important choice of the game is completely subjective view of wether letting Ciri vandalize a lab makes good parenting. It's a complete joke
I said Morrowinds main plot.
They do.
Problem is that nu/v/ likes to shit all over the place trying to fit somehow in what old/v/ likes.
That´s why the one that made that pic put Gothic in there. Is actually shit but loved here anyway.
So they just get a cherrypicked quest and compare just a part of another quest from TW3 when he is using the witcher senses.
Ofc you could do it without them, but it´s very, very, difficult thing to do, like playing without any HUD and that stuff since the game is fairly big.
Just don´t fell for the meme, we are used to it in every witcher thread.
This. You hear children singing about him as far back as the first village, you meet him at the very start of the game and you have no idea who he's supposed to be until the DLC. You hear this music in little random creepy bits here and there and there's subtle references to him littered throughout the game.
What is this? An image for bats?
Dude, that's one of like 20 different things.
Yea and Morrowinds main plot fucking sucks
Literally "LE CHOSEN ONE" tier trash.
MORROWIND BABBIES BTFO
>Literally "LE CHOSEN ONE" tier trash.
Witcher is worse in that regard.
>entire world revolves around you and waiting for you to decide the faith of the entire continent in a single side quests
>before Ciri saves the universe or some shit
Fuck off with that held up nose, oooh my fantasy trash is better than your fantasy trash, kys loser
kek, i did that in the expansion where you have to have a mandatory game of gwynt. Played for two hours on the easiest gwynt difficulty with my shitty starter deck before i just cheated and gave myself all the cards and bodied the AI. Felt so good.
On top of his FO2 and NV stuff he wrote most of Fallouts background lore IIRC
THE GODS BLESS BESSIE AND HER BOUNCING BOARS
Bethesda is trying to sell their game to everyone between the age of 14-30 while the witcher games are trying to go for the young adult to adult audience.
So skyrim is a better product but the witcher is a better game.
All of the Ciri "decisions" are fucking retarded. And the other two decisions that matter are retarded for different reasons
>Geralt letting Ciri go alone to talk to the lodge means he's letting her be independent
>But him going in with her must mean he doesn't want her to be independent
What a bunch of fucking bullshit. That's not what most players would asume at all, why wouldn't I want to go in there to support her.
>WItcher 3 main character is not the chosen one
>Morrowind main character is the chosen one
Witcher 3 wins by default, nigger
I came here for bobbyposting damnit
But you are the chosen one, you have the biggest plot armor in the game and make all the decisions that matter, the entire world if just waiting if you take on that quest because no one else is competent
Ciri might save the universe but you decide the fate of the world, on the side. It would make sense for Geralt to make a difference in the war if the game revolved around it, but not only one quest fucking matters
>Protagonist of a game has plot armor
What the fuck does this even mean you butt blasted nigger? You can die in the game and it's game over, like 99% of games.
Dumb fucking faggot.
Dont forget if you choose to drink with her instead of having a snowball fight (neither of which are clear based on the two dialogue options youre given) youre a bad parent. Apparently telling Ciri to "relax, you cant be good at everything" was the wrong thing to say.
>plot armor
>in a video game
Sup Forums memes are a gift to mankind
>gothic
>actually shit
nah fuck you
CAREFUL NOW
CAREFUL user
It means that the game has nonsensical and bad writing. The rules the world set-up, common sense doesn't apply to Geralt.
Like we see that alchemists, mages and magical creatures, are being hunted down in Novigrad, yet Geralt a thing made of magic and alchemy is allowed to walk around doing whatever he likes, even do magic inside the town without any consequence.
We're told that Triss is the most wanted person in the country, and you're known to be her lover, yet you're allowed to walk free and no one got the bright idea to set spies on you. Not Radovid not the city guards.
You're allowed to take a secret mission from the emperor, you're allowed to stroll the countryside with the Nilfguardian ambassadors..
We're meant to believe Radovid is insane and paranoid and is just killing everyone around him, like he did Sigfried...Yet despite you being a lover and so close to his sorcereses, despite being oppenly working with NIlfgaard, you're allowed access to him alone with only two guards, he does trusts you for some reason.
Haven't played W3 and yes, I know I'm replying to bait but I've seen this shit so much.
>Rich original world filled with different races and political ideologies

>We're told that Triss is the most wanted person in the country, and you're known to be her lover, yet you're allowed to walk free and no one got the bright idea to set spies on you. Not Radovid not the city guards
What are you even talking about? The first quest with Triss has you being ambushed. Another quest has you turning her in and them deliberately testing you to see if you're still faithful to her.
>You're allowed to take a secret mission from the emperor, you're allowed to stroll the countryside with the Nilfguardian ambassadors..
And?
>We're meant to believe Radovid is insane and paranoid and is just killing everyone around him, like he did Sigfried...Yet despite you being a lover and so close to his sorcereses, despite being oppenly working with NIlfgaard, you're allowed access to him alone with only two guards, he does trusts you for some reason.
Have you played Witcher 1? You directly aided him then and in Witcher 3 he calls into question your loyalty and gives you a quest to prove your loyalty (finding philippa).
Try playing the game faggot
