I'm thinking of buying a Switch

I'm thinking of buying a Switch.
I'm mainly a PC gamer, and fucking hate Sony and Microsoft. From what I've heard, Nintendo seems to be all about fun.
I know that I need a screen protector, and I know to never put the joy con straps on the wrong way.
Is there anything else I need to know?

I'd recommend you to check the library of games and see at least 2 or 3 games that strike your fancy, same with future releases.

I have a Switch and I'm enjoying it a lot, but buying the console first without seeing the games is always a bad idea.

Buy a LAN cable if you wanna play online. Switchs tend to vary between picking the wi-fi pretty good or horrible.

A WiiU LAN cable works just fine with it too.

Screen protector isn't really necessary imo, I've been docking and undocking mine for half a year now with no scratches at all. That said, I would

- get a decent carry case
- set up a South African account because their eShop has dirt cheap prices

pc gamer here, because im a pc gamer i almost exclusivly pirate games.

buy switch early for that early firmware hacking , let it sit in a drawer till we have piracy. by the time switch gets piracy like 3ds there should be some nice games on it too

I'm liking the look of BOTW, Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey.
Got it, thanks user.
A South African account? Won't that affect my experience in other ways? Could I be banned for exploiting thus?

Tbh you can easily remove the joycon straps even if you put them the wrong way round, just that people are idiots and whine at the slightest inconvenience

As first reply said what games are you interested in getting? BoTW, Mario Kart, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2 (last 2 havent come out yet but theyre all but guaranteed to be great) are what I'd recommend for the basics, but I've no idea what you're into.

Switch is actually less portable then you might think. If you take commutes that are short or have to change buses/trains often it'll never leave the case. But if you want to bring it to work/school/friend's place or just want to play on the bed you'll be glad you have it

Portable multiplayer is something that cannot be emphasised enough. If you don't get at least mario kart for multiplayer you're not getting your money's worth.

Tl;dr Switch shines in portable multiplayer, hardware is fine so what you really should be considering is the type of games you're into. If you like nintendo games this is a no-brainer

What do you hate about Microsoft and Sony but like about Steam?

Whatever it is, you will find it on Switch.

Also Nintendo makes some of the best games out there, but they always assume their are little children and they also make some really terrible games.

Lately they've gotten heavily into DLC, Microtransactions and paid online.

They also don't want you to talk to your friends.

That's pretty much what you need to know

I heard that Nintendo might have problems meeting demands this holiday when their big flagship Mario game is coming out in October.

You will not get banned for using another region for your account. Nintendo doesnt officially support my country internet wise so I use a US account

Don't listen to him OP, get a screen protector. It's like a condom. You think you don't need it until an accident happens

I don't really care much for play-anywhere portability (playing on public transport etc). I'm interested in the "take it to a friend's house" part, though.

To add on don't let people pressure you into getting a pro controller. It's buggy and overpriced and the joycons are awesome, put that money towards games instead
Unless you have gargantuan hands

Keep in mind that if your friend does not have a Switch you will need to bring the HDMI connector station with your and that one is a bit clunky.

Also a single joycon is a bad way to actually play games for an extended time and only a few games even really work with that control scheme.

You could buy 1 or 2 pro controllers to solve that problem, but you would need to bring them as well and that would cost you 160$ or €s (80 each)

This. You don't want to go to your friend's place and tell him "how about we play on this tiny screen with these tiny things for the next few hours?".

I watched this "before you buy" video and the dude loved the joycon controller mount. I also have small-ish hands, so I know I'll be fine.

Agreed. Portable multiplayer excels in spontaneous situations like in between classes or at a party, but if you're meeting up specifically to game then you should bring the whole kit over

>Could I be banned for exploiting thus
You won't get banned, it's literally the same as PlayStation's system. You can download from any store/region and play games across all accounts, and all Switch games are region free. The only thing you have to watch out for is languages, but the majority of Switch games have a universal worldwide SKU.

>you will need to bring the HDMI connector station with your and that one is a bit clunky
I can just toss it into a plastic grocery bag to carry. No biggie.

Meant for

It's also extremely light, to the point of even seeming a bit flimsy at times. Also its hollow and can open up so you can bundle up your cables and stuff them inside. All in all not a huge inconvenience

Sure, but with that extra grocery back with a spare pro controller and the joycon combine thing you are pretty much bringing a standard console with you, no longer a hand held that's more portable.

You might just want to play on your friend's PC or console instead and do Switch multiplayer in spontanous moments for a short time on the go or for real at your place.
