What's the best MMO in the market right now, Sup Forums?
What's the best MMO in the market right now, Sup Forums?
FF XIV
FFXIV most likely.
FFXIV, unfortunately
It's FFXIV. I really should log back on but there's too many games at the moment so I can't spend more than 2 hours a week. Thankfully the game decided it's okay with that and I'm still current.
You know mmo genre is dead when ffxiv is the best it can offer
trick question
wurm online
Weird, I was warned that it turned to shit recently.
Do you even need to ask this question OP?
World of Warcraft.
FFXIV and WoW are complete shit
i feel like Elder Scrolls Online offers a good mix of singleplayer and group content.
but i didnt enjoy the class i played that much.
at least the subscription is optional.
ESO sadly is the best bang for your buck at the moment. MMOs are in shambles. MAYBE, FFXIV, but really it's barely worth the subscription. I'm personally just waiting for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen, Crowfall, and Age of Camelot.
ESO is really underrated.
Fight me.
Are you a complete weeb that enjoys obtuse gameplay and cringeworthy fanfic tier story writing you're forced to sit through, and visuals with zero personality or soul at all?
Go FFXIV.
Are you someone that likes Diablo 3?
Go WoW.
Do you want to play something with a playercount under the average number of seats on a bus?
Play anything else.
wow vanilla noob. retail is shit. they blew it wit legion. wow 2 = 2019-2020.
play private servers or go batshit crazy. u choose.
btw ffxiv is shit...long pvp q times. pvp is shit
And if you honestly want some off the wall suggestions;
Villagers & Heroes
Wyvern
...thought I could recommend more lol
GW2, behind ff14
i don't think there's any worth playing at the moment. The best of what's available just isn't that good.
If you have friends to play with you can have fun with any of the mmo's people will mention in this thread, otherwise hold off of mmo's for a couple of years.
It's just bland. For comparison, while FFXIV has some awful design choices, it also has points where it shines, like its god tier sound track and some extremely hype fight set pieces (which is partly due to the sound track again).
ESO has no super low points but I never had any high points with it either
Private servers of w/e MMO you used to like back in the glory days of MMOs
A stupid choice due to the fact it generally isn't developed with nearly the same quality or professionalism, is flooded with mongoloids and BRs, and doesn't create the same atmosphere (nothing could) of the time when you played it.
Essentially just choosing to play the same game, but with none of the fun exploration of the past and none of the quality of life features of the future, with the same utterly retarded playerbase
>New hot MMO comes out that does something new and cool
>WoWs next expansion absorbs those cool mechanics and adds them to the game
As ever, WoW is the king of the industry. Stormblood is also an option if you want WoW with a weeb coat of paint
>OP asks about MMOs
>everyone suggests theme park "games"
i wish wow did that. i hoped mmos would steal wildstars housing systems (only thing it did right) but nobody has done that yet
>...and poorly adds them to the game with all the fun and cool parts stripped and time gated, RNG and grindy aspects added
Ftfy
Dying genre, it seems ARPG-MMO hybrids like POE and Devillian are the future.
sorry your experience with them has been bad.
maybe try finding a good one before denouncing them all. or don't i dont give a shit. im having a blast playing ffxi again when it used to be a good game
>Wildstar's Housing System
Only reason people log into that game. It's such a good feature.
Pic unrelated?
It's obviously World of War... jk.
>do that fucking awful Argus zone
>???
7.3 is fucking horrendously bad. I have no idea what they were thinking other than "Let's just put Argus in the game, people have wanted that since Vanilla" and it's this poorly designed small 3 zone area with WQs, disappearing RNG chests and elites.
Not to mention they knew the content was shit and lacked so they gated it behind 3 weeks of waiting.
Why aren't you making your own perfect MMO, Sup Forums?
Your own perfect class balance. Your own perfect world. Your own perfect NPCs to interact with. Your own armor to wear.
WoW Legion is fucking garbage, it has the worst class design of any expansion, Cata was the beginning of the end with poor class design choices but WOD and Legion buried the game.
Because I don't have investors or hundreds of millions of dollars laying around to make one?
I agree, user
sadly still world of warcraft.
if you could get a 75% majority of people in a single thread to agree on ONE single aspect of a mmo, I would eat my own penis.
half will be people who like the casual shit like ffxiv, the other half will be people who liked mmos when they were first coming out
WoW, if you want MMO with actually PvE content instead of RP shit
More like you don't have the basic skills necessary to make any game.
You need rudimentary modeling skills. You need rudimentary programming skills. You need rudimentary music skills.
Thats all. Missing any of the three means you lack the basic component.
Uninstall.exe
It was rushed out so quick that no one on the development team thought about waystones and not having anything to spend them on. Just how?
Uh no, you need a lot of money. Unless you want to make a game on some free RPG maker with Nintendo graphics and free non-copyrighted music.
You're talking about creating a MMO. It takes hundreds of people to create a successful MMO and maintain it.
And yet those zones are still more content than any sort of "patch" that other MMOs make in a few months
to create it maybe. maintain it, no. look at ffxi. that thing has been going with a skeleton crew for the last 4 years at least
which mmo has the shortest raids?
It did, and it's still the best. The MMORPG genre is dead.
>FFXI is ran by a skeleton crew
And it shows.
Why is MMO combat so awful? Even ones that try a different approach like wildarms are awful.
Because it's casualized.
doesnt change the fact that it's been going "fine" for the last 4 years
FFXIV, Usually the raids are 24 people against 4 to 6 bosses and much less trash compared to say WoW. Smaller 8man content in FF is usually just single bosses with maybe a little trash beforehand.
Super Mario 64 online
Sounds nice
Cause combat is supposed to be slow and grindy so you don't reach level 1000 or whatever in 2 days, or clear a raid in 1 hour
Hundreds of people to create a really gigantic AAA mmo.
For any decent MMO, you can do it with 1-2m for simple creation and have the community handle the moderation
ESO. I don't know what other people see in other MMO's outside of nostalgia and runescape having some really great quests.
I don't know what other people see in ESO besides nostalgia and having decent PvP
>ESO
>2nd most sold Elder Scrolls title ever
>Underrated
cmon
>FF14
>The game where the director told everyone to go play something else if they finished the lastest content.
because no one can come to a consensus as to what a good one would be. Final fantasy mmos for example:
On one end of the spectrum you have something like ffxiv where you spam your rotation or w/e the fuck every 2.5 seconds. and at the other end of the spectrum you have ffxi where you auto attack and sprinkle in abilities/weapon skills. ffxi at least has the skillchain and magic burst system to add to their combat. i dont have a clue what you do in xiv, all i see is people spamming their skills.
Dragon's Dogma Online and Vindictus both have fantastic combat but they're mmo's in marketing description only.
I think ''''mmo's'''' that are basically online co-op games with a social hub (like destiny, DDON, PSO2, Vindictus, etc) are on the rise and are the best way to implement decent gameplay until the technical limitations of making those types of games open world are overcome.
Doing whatever you want whenever you want almost however you want is pretty great.
That's not hard to do when Oblivion didn't get the remastered and Nintendo port treatment
I like ESO but the problem is that the Questing is too easy.
For ESO the foucs is on questing especialy on the DLCs.
Orsinium had a great story but its fucking impossible to enjoy it with a friend, the content is already way too easy when you are solo so when theres two of you you just kill everything too quick.
I enjoy tanking in this game and the PvP is probably the most solid implementation of it that has actual players in this day and age.
But i gotta admit i miss the COOP aspect of it.
I guess i did get back to GW2 a bit for my fix on that. GW2 has all sorts of other problems but the coop exploration in that game is just better.
I realy wish theyd include some zone wide events in ESO, the closest thing are theWorld bosses which are actually quite fun and very active.
I dont understand why ZOS cant take a hint and expand those beyond boss battles.
Also while i apreciate the new Battlegrounds, i think they REALY need to add more stuff to cyrodiil to get people to spread out more and blob up less, adding capturable cities was nice but without siegeable walls they are just capturable quest hubs
>I like ESO
Opinion discarded
meant for obv
WoW
XIV only gets so much love because autistic Sup Forums perma virgins and crossboard /r9k/ and /vg/ posters wont let go of their ERP circlejerks
yea but it means you have a game with more sales than, as an example, ffxiv that didn't even have 10 million sold copies last time I heard someone talk about it.
also they need to do something about the feel of the combat.
I dont even just mean compared to TERA but also compared to Neverwinter or GW2 it feels weak.
Only a few skills actually feel like they have an impact to them.
Realy just adding some more hitstop and better sound design would alleviate that issue.
IMO ESO saccrificed too much in order to be stable.
ESO has some pretty good graphics quality but it doesnt show nearly enaugh because of artificial limitations due to performance issues.
>obtuse gameplay
>FFXIV
you wot m9? The game is simple almost to a fault. Even the more demanding DPS jobs basically boil down to "do whatever funky shit you think is best for your opener, rotate between your bread and butter combos/spells to build meter while hitting the occasional ogcd in the ~2 seconds you have between skills, do The Thing when the meter fills, repeat" It's mostly the production value/encounter design that carries the game.
havent played this game since arr came out. are encounters more than just dodging red boxes/circles now?
time to collectively kill ourselves or find a new genre if 14 is legitimately considered a best
you're pretty behind the times if you're only just realizing the state of mmos, it's been like this for a while
In dungeons/raids/trials? Sure.
Combat with enemies in the field is the same as ever though.
Inside of the MSQ it's mostly simple as shit so any mouthbreather can get through it, though they do throw in the occasional interesting gimmick. In the normal mode endgame raids you have stuff like
>teleport to a pocket dimension and go through a small maze fast enough to get back to the arena and not die
>use an item to levitate yourself to dodge certain attacks from a boss, he also has attacks that fuck up levitating players if you read his spells the wrong way
>boss has normal spells that you need to dodge aoe's or spread out for, and a 'souped up' version with the same spell name but a different animation that you need to react to completely differently
There's generally a pretty big rise in quality when they don't have to account for braindead ERPing catgirls who just want to go through the story.
All I really want is to go on a big adventure with a buddy, fun combat, and good character customization/dress up.
I've been enjoying playing old school eq on the agnarr server. Although camping a spawn for hours on end because it was a 2% spawn chance gets boring and does not make for interesting gameplay.
>do you need to camp the spawn?
Yes, it's a key for more content.
World of Warcraft: Legion
Vindictus
I want a MMO where I can run around the world and watch other people fighting hard shit and/or boss fights.
do those exist anymore? i'm not talking about open world stuff anyone can join in on. I want to watch people kill things first hand
>Spend $500 to not suffer from constant inventory management anxiety.
No thanks.
You're like a videogame cuck.
Elite Dangerous
FF14 is just WoW for weebs. They're the exact same shit + console concessions.
And? People don't want a sandbox mmo.
*for the first 3 days of playing
>IMO ESO saccrificed too much in order to be stable.
TESO's problem was and still is fucked up co-op experience that should've lent itself perfectly to the game. You still can't easily do quests in a party because of phasing and how game counts quest contributions, for example. If you solo this is irrelevant, but at launch it was a crippling problem.
Probably WoW. I wish other MMOs had more staying power that weren't just clones. Everything else is dead.
when will this stupid meme word end? you obviously don't even know what the definition is. from your example, someone going to the movies would be a cuck.
my point was, a mmo should have a 'living' world. not stupid instanced shit all over the place.
SWTOR
lol triggered
lol reddit
Destiny 2
>tfw they finally added community housing into the game
>tfw no one to build communities with
honestly half of its problems would be solved if there was a co-op mode where both players would be downscaled but got better loot or something.
I dont know just SOMETHING to make the main meat of the gameplay enjoyable for co op. Which is exactly what everyone wanted out of this game anyway.
This may sound autistic aa fuck, but I keep a notebook with me everyday and write ideas for an imaginary mmorpg in my head.
Right now I'm planning which races I want in the game and cities. Later I may focus on each class' individual story and the storyline for the game.
WoW private servers
FF14 is fun for a while but it can't hold my attention for very long and I wouldn't want to play it long term
...
why not focus on the most important part of the game first rather than the lore? if your gameplay is shit, you could have the deepest lore ever and it would be junk
Making a whole game seems really ambitious vs. even posting on a forum for that Blizz-visiting opportunity. It seems that just getting a bit of forum posting going on specific features would have enough posting power for a tweet or something.
>Hey, guys, making WoW into a sandbox is really simple..
What's the response?
ESO is probably one of the better ones if you want PvP as it does something no other MMO lets you do anymore. You get customization. Everything from your gear to your build, has so much customization that its amazing. The downside is there just isn't enough to do with it, the game doesn't feel that good to play to me.
WoW and 14 are just the same game, everything is so cut and dry, you do what you daily without change or really mixing it up. I hate that this is the standard now.
