Redpill me on WoW

Sup Forums, I played the trial version of this game up to level 20. I feel the gravitational pull of how addictive it can be. Is it worth it at all to invest time and money in to this game??

I would like to know what veterans think of it.

If you never played it before sure, play the whole game it should interest you.

No, you'd be playing a game past its prime.

Post-Cata WoW is fucking dogshit and you have terrible taste.

what's wrong with that? does it just not hold up any more??

This, the game now is just a slog. You will visit empty areas to level up or do sit still at your factions capital spamming dungeons to reach max level as soon as possible. The real game only begins when you reach 110 and from that point all you do is grind for power for you weapons, spam 4 different layers of dungeon difficulties to gain better gear and then spam 3 diffirent layers of raid difficulties. Shit game

Have you ever wondered how long you can milk a series with minimum effort and maximum profits?

Lets go for the record.

yes but you better learn shit beforehand because nobody will help you and just tell you to fuck off for not knowing anything
so dont play on my server and i wont have to shit on you

Well it's an MMO. If you want to play a game with other people and establish a community for raiding it's a choice as good as any.
If you want to "enjoy the world", then there's certainly a lot of space to explore but that aspect of the game has lost its charm over time since most low level areas are barren wastelands devoid of players.

I wouldn't recommend getting into the game for the solo content it's just not that great.

New content isn't worth it and there are perfectly fine private servers available.

ok, thank you. I would be solo any way and the only autists I associate with is Sup Forums

It's a good time sink. If it is your first time playing you might get some enjoyment out of it but I wouldn't expect too much.

Levelling would probably be pretty boring now that everyone else has heirloom items (xp boosting gear). So you likely fall behind any other players you encounter.

You can always pay for max level though. End game in legion is pretty grindy though. You would be way behind everyone else in terms of gear and progression.

>modern wow
>community and playing with other people

kek the world is dead and empty, no one says a word in dungeon finder groups since you can just face roll them all. He'll have fun as a new player in bgs getting one shot by people in full heirloons

I played WoW for 2 or 3 years from just before BC to the release of Cata during which time I stopped playing all other games and after which I developed severe carpal tunnel, the need for glasses, and fell into a deep depression after realizing how I was using videogames to avoid and escape my real life. I've never been able to look at videogames the same way since and have lost all the passion I once had for them. Playing WoW was the biggest mistake of my life.

So... I wouldn't recommend it.

>Is it worth it at all to invest time and money in to this game??
If you're a bored NEET like most people who play it, sure. It's great for killing time and if you invest enough time you'll eventually come to a point where you make enough in-game money that you don't have to pay for your sub anymore.

Yeah it used to be better. But if you feel like it's fun then give it a try. Buy the game and you get a free lvl 100, but I recommend just leveling up from scratch. Then when you get to lvl 100 you have two of them.

Sort of a veteran here, played since BC.

thats a personal problem

Most people can control themselves and not put games before irl

That part is mostly true for content below level 100 because you literally fly through it. The game slows down a lot because there's objectives all over the place and most of the content scales with level. Except for starting areas, those are usually brimming. Still, the old world is so big you can spend years collecting shit you missed.

>buy the game and skip the content

uhhhh

Netherlight Crucible is just going to be another grind to keep idiots subbed. Argus is tiny as shit.

Damn, nice job not reading literally the second half of that sentence. Man you fucked up bad

>thats a personal problem
And yet an extremely common one with WoW in particular, especially pre-Cata. I'm willing to bet tens of thousands of people threw away their teenage years on the game and regret it, I'm yet another one of them.

I'm not much of an MMO person, is it encouraged for you to make multiple alt heroes? I'm sure many people have mains that they've loved since the beginning like their favorite child, but do alt accounts allow you to start off in unique areas based on your skillset and race decision?

Grinding in my mmo? You don't say. It's actually fucking nothing.

WoW is a pretty dated game and the core gameplay can feel pretty terrible. Killing bosses with friends and clearing raids can be fun, but only actual junkies play WoW for the solo content.
I play the game every expansion for a few months until I realize playing the game solo is just like playing a really bland single player game, in which case, you might as well not play WoW at all.

Yeah. Death Knights start in their very own area at level 55 and Demon Hunters at 100 though, everyone else is normal.

Same here. It's a fun game and all, but I deeply regret wasting my high school and college years on it, it objectively made me a worse person.

the thing wow really has going for it is accessibility. it's a really smooth service, mostly, and it's always been the most responsive and "offline" feeling game, outside of extreme circumstances like expansion launch.

but i think it's really ugly and the charm is lost on me. i don't really like the classes or armor, or the architecture. some of the landscapes are cool. i like some lore characters but this game just completely fails to deliver lore and character arcs. its such a fucking chronological mess at this point. khadgar is a meme. i'd rather still play FFXI or something if both games are just going to be hours of solo grind, just for the pleasure of finally getting to check out a complete class at max level, and wear its unique armor sets. you are going to be seeing a lot of the same NPCs and zones in an MMO, a lot of the same armor sets and monsters; as well as being a good service platform, i think its really important MMOs have that charm or stylization that appeals, so you can comfortably spend hours just chilling in town or grinding mobs, which WoW just doesn't do for me.

Yeah, but that's not gonna happen with current wow. No one's gonna throw away years for the crap that is retail, it's just people doing their dailies after work

How does the core gameplay feel terrible? It's the smoothest mmo out there, the combat is slick and responsive. They have dumbed down the mechanics alot and removed/simplified tons of abilities but it still has the best mmo combat out there

Pandaria had ability bloat. WoD was much too simplified but Legion has been a big step up, even though I don't agree with the direction a specialization takes, rotations are more solid.
