You can go out and explore as much as you like. its an mmo but you wont see other players outside of the main city unless you party up, so it can be done completely solo with pawns if you like

Every vocation has 4 basic skills essential to the class that don't cost stamina, and 4 custom skills that do. Vocations are highly specialized in comparison to the original, to the point they all have separate levels. No vocations share weapons and cross augmenting is less useful. The game still makes it worth your while to level up all vocations by offering you bonuses based on level across all vocations. Pawns are less useful, the AI sucks to be quite frank and the game is designed to assume you have an intelligent party. You can still play solo but you're gonna carry a lot of weight.

The maps bigger but you get pigeonholed based on main story progression a bit more than the original DD.

it has a party system. you have to set up a party with specific people then you can play with them and explore and kill shit and shit, and no pvp

You are around level 50 when you first complete, and then you may play with different vocations and have pants stats for what you are.

TGS is also coming up soon and there's the tiniest smigdeon of hope that there will be DD2 news, as there's a DD 5th anniversary panel, although that looks to be DDO focused

That's pretty much it. The gameplay is what brings you, and the rest cements the experience.

It's a flawed gem.
It's pretty unique and there aren't really any other games like it that try to have a good combat system, but the more traditional RPG side with side quests and what not feel unfinished.

DD being rereleased, as well as TGS coming up and Itsuno still yet to announce a game.

I was level 10 and I still won but it took a whole in game night to do and I was doing that NPC escort quest for the priest guy

Easy: Normal stamina consumption whilst under the shade of a tree (or anything that casts a big enough shadow, including monsters).

Yeah, although I did find the overarching plot (once it actually decided to start happening) and some of the core characters, namely Elysion, Grigori and the Seneschal, to be interesting, or at least the writing of their exposition dumps.
The fact that the gameplay is actually fun though was enough for me, given the state of the Action-Adventure/ARPG genre. I mean what else is there? Deus Ex reboots, I guess, but that evidently doesn't scratch the fantasy itch.
