Really unique game it's even on pc too

And psp

The graphics of these versions are downgraded from the PS2 one, unfortunately.

The PSP version also had different (and worse imo) voice acting.

Fucking shit i was about to download it on pc since I lost my ps2 copy. How bad is the downgrade

my first PS2 game.

Played it until I couldn't progress anymore. Liked it a lot at first, but then about halfway through I got bored. This was ages ago though.

which cover is better?

Why are games so fucking boring now bros. A developer can literally do anything they want in any time period and we always end up with the same shit over a and over.

Western devs took over the industry.

This one and it's not even close

Nothing too serious, but the new VA is just awful, like, borders on Silent Hill collection bad (even using some of the same fuckers who would go onto to be in that shit show "HD collection").

How about the pc version?

Focus testing, inflated budgets and Jews

What was his problem?

Not that bad, lighting and textures quality are a bit lower, the port can be difficult to run in modern systems. PSP had more downgrade.

No big deal, the game is kinda ugly in all versions anyway... But if you can emulate the ps2 version, do it.

Thanks man guess I'll emulate

Wouldn't know, I only ever played the original PS2 version. I recall it even had an Xbox release, though only in Europe if I'm not mistaken. Of all the games made by former-Silent Hill members, it definitely didn't have as much of the visual prowess they were known for putting in. Though the game's strongest draws are in its surprisingly well done time travel and the plot revolving all around it.

Old people are a drag.
Still, this bit always confused me since you find him in the ground floor of the house like he got booted up there from the lab.

Margaret is a best girl.

I remember not knowing jackshit about this game besides time travel. Saved my money as a kid and got it since i was a sucker for anything that had to deal with the idea of time travel and paradoxes. It ended up being one of the most memorable games i've played during that era.

Whaoo

This game was fucking weird. I remember my brother and aunt would play it.

If I remember correctly they got a bad ending where the MC gets run over by drunks after he decides its a good idea to lie down in the middle of the street.

Charming and comfy game. Felt ahead of its time.
Needs a proper HD-Re-release.
>Konami wont fuck it up like SH

It's amazing how well they pulled off the time travel. In a lot of works, the shit just changes rule every other moment, sometimes forgoing a necessary source of power or whatever for plot convenience. Yet this managed to keep it consistent from start to finish with its rule.

voiced by mario

It's probably the best video game just because you can travel back in time to stop a tree from growing.

He was in the park, not the street.

Or go touch yourself in a cafe and turn into a nullity, wiped from existence.

I know, dude. A re-release with less crappy voicework would be so fuckin sweet.

>going back in time to prevent a tree from growing in the town square where your murderer ambushed you from

Dana (the real Margaret) is pretty hot, too.

The original dub it had wasn't all that bad, could have been better, but it had a charm to it, unlike the PSP redub that just made everyone sound super anime.

This game is the definition of comfy

that one.

This is honestly my top 10 of all time and I played it only a few years ago. What a fucking story.

Did Junko Kawano just fuck off and not make any more video games after like 2010?

PSP redub has fucking Ben Ten faggot. Its just SH HD tier of travesty. Avoid.

>Homonculus' wearing Mario's clothes
Please I need this.

Never heard of this game! General aesthetics look great.
What is it about and what makes you love it?

This one certainly has more effort put into it, but the other cover does kind of have a cheesy appeal to it. Almost like a soap-opera poster that gives you some impression of the drama about to be witnessed.

Certainly not the worst case of a coverart change.

its not a jrpg, which si what you would expect from the visuals

its a walking sim that is about time travel. made by team silent members, its about time travel, has a superbly written story that is very engaging. its comfy, you explore a small bavarian town in different time eras and piece by piece figure the shit out. you are basically trying to prevent your own murder. cool shit.

The main character is mentally retarded and can't solve his problems without traveling through time and fucking shit up.

I coincidentally just started playing this.
That part where he pulls out the cell phone and tells ghr villagers hell trap them inside it had me laughing

Yuri Lowenthal isn't too bad in some cases, but the PSP dub was by one of his worst since he just phoned in his regular voice and did nothing to sound like the 20-something Eike is. Only thing he did well was saying Wagner's name properly.

You can also use the lighter

>Not summoning fire

lad pls

...

Clichéd and done to death too many times before.

Hardly retarded when you have no idea a psychotic killer is going to pour a rare poison on your damn steak.

beware the C ending.

Huh. I actually didn't know they had re-recorded the voices for the PSP version. Despite what you said I'm kinda curious.

Regarding the original voices, I dunno. Maybe they're not "Bad" bad, but most of it felt really... bland to me, and I'm usually not not picky when it comes to voice acting.
Maybe I'm just biased, though - from the moment I first heard Homunculus' voice I just couldn't let go of how much I disliked hearing it.

nothing released out of japan i think. last i heard she was doing some professor layton ripoff.

When the mother fucker travels through time to get a frying pan you know he's a fucking retard.

There are also some texture reworks for minor objects. You can easily find comparisons online. Its hardly an improvement, its just... different kind of meh.

I remember him saying "Thanks, but no thanks" a lot for some reason.

Pretty much. Probably relegated to mobile shit like a lot of the other actually creative people at Konami.

Is this pretty much the closest we get to Twilight Zone: The Game?

...

So, is there gameplay of any kind or you just go around reading the story?

Most of them are indeed bland, but they at least sounded natural to the characters. The problem with the PSP dub is that everyone involved just uses their anime voices and it sticks out like the SH collection where Vincent is just Ben 10 and Eddie was fucking Gaara of the Sand.

As for Homunculus, I think his voice was pretty interesting. The somewhat monotone nature of it makes him sound otherworldly, but at the same time appear to be acting like a smug bastard who knows everything and flaunts that fact.

Is that Silent Hill font?

think point'n'click adventure games

How is that retarded? The pan being a good shielding on his back is pretty smart, and getting from a period where it won't be missed is a lot better than trying to find it in the present where someone might be less happy to lose it.

>it won't be missed
How do you know?

You walk around triggering conversations, talking to people, picking up objects, and using stuff in your inventory. Minor issue is that there isn;'t free camera movement but you get used quickly.

There is also a subtle stress factor since you are pressed for time. If you back in time you have to figure shit out before the time runs down in present and you get killed. But its done in a good way.

He could travel back 30 minuets and buy one,

More like 3D adventure, like Grim Fandango or Escape from Monkey Island, but not as clunky in controlling things because the camera isn't always set.

Yeah. Owaku was the guy who wrote Silent Hill 2 and 3. Konami has him working on otome games now.

He got it from a wealthy family, they probably have a ton of the things.

If he could find the shop, which would probably take too much time.

>probably take too much time
Mother fucker, he has nothing but time.

>The somewhat monotone nature of it makes him sound otherworldly, but at the same time appear to be acting like a smug bastard who knows everything and flaunts that fact.

That's why I said I'm probably just biased. I first played this game some 10-15(?) years ago, and over time I actually came to realise how much the voice actually suited the character. Strangely, I still can't bring myself to say I like it.

>incest
>traps
>waifus

perfect game

Only relative to wherever he is, idiot. He can't just keep running, he has to eventually make it to his fated location and hope his plan works or get killed again and hope Homunculus will give him another mulligan. Even in the past, time in the present is moving forward.

Fair enough. It's certainly not the pinnacle of acting, but it is an impressive display of Charles Martinet's range given we pretty much all only know him for Mario.

>voiced by Mario
No fucking way

We are talking about a game that came out at the same time as FFX. Let's all reevaluate our standards.

>that ending where he lies down to stargaze in the middle of the street

>HD-rerelease
Agreed. Both Shadow of Memory and this game really deserve some kind of HD treatment, or full on remakes similar to Yakuza Kiwami.

If you're talking about the laugh from X, that was obviously meant to sound forced.

Weird this game isnt on ios yet

You should've been able to tell it was him after he did the triple jump.

i mean entirety of FFX

Seen the cover art around for years but never anything about the game itself, sell me on it.

It wasn't all that bad

lines that are narrated by tidus actually sound pretty good
but dialogue sounds horrendous
its entirely director's fault I imagine but still, it sounds horrible

You play a man who has to solve his own murder by traveling through time and avoiding the many attempts on your life as you unravel a centuries-long mystery involving a curious red stone.

>tfw Steambot Chronicles 2 never

This is best girl.

...

Sounds kinda neat I guess

>Why are games so fucking boring now bros.
Games are expensive to make and take hundreds of people now, PS2 era was the last time a small or middling studio had the money and manpower to make a mainstream title.
Developers who take risks these days go bust and/or get bought up by EA to join the focus group purgatory.

I still hope the reformed team do get the IP, since it's just sitting there unused. Of course, I really do hope someone will rerelease the original or do a full on remake. I'd love to see the original with a better graphics engine and expand on all of the choices.

Hm, I dunno. I think that game's problem might be the exact opposite, actually. I feel that while Shadow of Memories has a decent\good script with sub-par voice acting, FFX might actually have some ok voicework to go along with mediocre writing (or mediocre localization?).
I always felt that games translated from japanese rarely feel natural in english, though - the way they write and talk makes it really hard to translate to something that doesn't sound weird if you can't change the dialogue's structure, line count or duration.

This game will always be so close to my heart. I remember spending a few days at my cousin's house and we spent literally all day playing this game and getting all the endings. What an experience.

The soundtrack is really, really good too. It's a shame it's impossible to find in anything other than shit quality.

The atmosphere of the town in this game was top notch. All that snow was comfy as fuck

Surprised nobody has tried to remake it with a modern engine. I'd love to explore it with a fresh look, even if most of the locations stayed closed off like before.

What other games come close?

Shenmue is very similar

but plot and storytelling in shenmue is horrible. its all about the novelty of the proto-sandbox

comes fairly close, even if the story is more like a dime-store Miyazaki flick.
