WL1 is to WL2 as SMB1 is to SMB3. It's still a fantastic game, but the later games were just such a huge step up that I can't not rank them higher.

I always wanted this game when I was a kid. I loved Super Mario World and on
day I saw this game on a store and the back made it look like more of the same
but with a cool new character. I never got a GB Advance to play it on.

Played Mario Land 1,2, and Wario Land. Got to Wario Land 2 and quit within the first few levels. The action is just boring and the billion routes and treasure minigame shit isn't appealing to me. Didnt get around to any of the later ones after that hiccup.

I want to believe but it probably means nothing. I can't see the 3DS getting anything significant beyond what's already announced.

no game makes a rather big and intricate (but still linear) level out of 1 theme per stage (combining 4 stages' thematics being kinda in the same direciton to form a door)

DKC3 is my personal recommendation, it's got the best overworld, it's non-linear in various parts, and it's got quite the unique northern mountains looks and feel, just make sure you play the SNES version and not the GBA version
and exploration isn't limited to the overworld, each stage has 2 Bonus Coins, as well as a DK Koin to find (each stage's flags mark wether you've collected them, mind you)

One thing I never fucking understood was that bar beneath the hearts. What the hell was it?
It seems it filled up when you collected those red orbs from enemies, but filling it to the max didn't fucking do anything.
I remember reading an early article in some gaming magazine about the game having RPG elements, but that didn't seem to happen. Apparently, they were going to add a garlic meter or something, but they scrapped the idea.
What's weird is that the bar is present in some versions of the game. I think PAL and JP, but not in NTSC. Looking at random screenshots, it's there in some and gone in others.
Does anyone know what the fuck was up with that?

In 4? You get a free heart when it fills up. It stays full if you already have max hearts

well yeah, it's not as good as the jump of Sonic Rush -> Sonic Rush CD Quality, but it's still great

Oh, that's easy. The bar fills when you collect all the little red orbs. When the bar is filled, it gives you another heart. When you have maximum hearts AND the bar is filled, the red orbs turn into extra coins, rewarding perfect/no-damage play.

I played the game for years and never figured this out. Man, I'm stupid.
