I've been seeing a lot of Yakuza threads around here lately and I'm thinking of finally getting into the series myself.
My question to current fans is should I emulate the original Yakuza or just get Kiwami?

Get Kiwami
Play in release order starting from 1. 1 and 2 both emulate pretty well.
Well that ain't helpful. What's the merits of emulating the originals versus getting Kiwami and Kiwami 2 when it eventually comes out? Are they substantially different besides being a modern-console remake?
Get Yakuza Zero, then Kiwami or just Kiwami
kiwami isn't accurate to the original's game play experience, but the improvements are very welcome. the combat is good but keeping some of the styles from yakuza 0 is an odd move but it does make the game play better. kiwami is also has some added story bits.
the original yakuza in english is a god awful localization. NISA levels of garbage with major bugs ruining in-game cutscenes and having a terrible dub. There's an undub available, but this won't fix the bugs. Kiwami is better, but it's not the same game play, content, and narrative experience, but it's still a good place to start.
Why is Zero $60 while the Kiwami Steelbook is $30?
Fuck off, the games are long and generally samey, marathoning them is a terrible idea
OP, the best jumping-on point for the story is zero. It's also currently the best Yakuza game.
I started with 3 on the PS3 and played 3, 4, dead souls, 5, 0, kiwami
In terms of gameplay
0 > 4 > Kiwami > 3 > 5
Simple reason, going from Kiwami to Y3/4/5 on PS3 will be hell due to all the gameplay, visual and framerate improvements from 0 and Kiwami that you won't find in the PS3 titles due to them being older.
one's a new game, one's a remake which had all the hard work done already.
Yeah Kiwami utilizes the same engine, minigames, basically the same map etc. It almost feels like an expansion but that's Yakuza for you.
damn, but I want to play 0 before Kiwami
Seems like Kiwami is the way to go, then. I don't have a lotta time for vidya (grad student), so I want a game that is actually fun when I have the time to play it. So long as I can enjoy the characters and same general story that everyone keeps raving about, as well, I don't give a flying fuck about gameplay fidelity to the originals.
This is a good point, but at the rate I'll be going through them, they might make Kiwamis for those by the time I get to them.
>they might make Kiwamis for those by the time I get to them.
0 chance due to one of Y4's main characters burning all bridges with the game devs and SEGA and vice versa.
0 expects you to know information from pretty much every other yakuza game and references them all in one way or another. You will be missing out on things if you start with 0. It's a prequel, but you can't treat it like the first game in the series. Sorta like playing MGS3 first, it references things from 1 and 2 and the game expects you to know it.
I beat 3, 4,and Dead Souls. Stopped playing 5 at the Sajemia chapter
Read the in-game summaries for 1 and 2
Kiwami may be a 1 remake but it also has a lot of 0 references, if you're bent on starting with the newer games then at least get 0, then go to kiwami
>general story that everyone keeps raving about
lel, the stories are the absolute worst thing about this series
Jesus Christ. If you've seen them you know that all of them are asking this same fucking question. Just read them you faggot. Or just Google it. Fucking Cunt.
The original has awful controls and slow gameplay.
Dish out $30 if you really want to play.
>Hey guys, should I start with MGS1 or Twin Snakes?
Im a faggot and am starting with 3 then 4,5, Kiwami, 0, Kiwami 2, then 6
Trying to avoid spoilers, you pissant. Thanks for bumping my thread tho
You should play MGSV because it's the only one playable one just like Yakuza 0 lmao lowlolwolwoalolalalalalalla haha niggerz
Nishiki dies
Yumi's "sister" is actually Yumi and also dies
Story in Yakuza is weak. Blind girl owns the empty lot, is brother of the real estate guy. Bat tattoo guy is henchman of real estate guy.
I started with 4 > 2 > 3 > 1 > 5 > 0 > Kiwami, you'll be fine
Kiwami is a remake of 1 that adds in a bit of story to help canonically more from 0 to 1. Unless you want to save money, just go start from 0, which will let you get a feel for the rest of the games.
