Capcom is the best video game company ever made. Depending on when you decide that the company became "bad", they still have 20-25 years of quality. During that time they put out a good number of games that were at worst Pretty Good and at least one game that generally stands the test of time or was at least a huge deal for a while, making games in more or less every genre and artstyle you can think of and crossing over with half a dozen companies. Even when people considered them to be falling, they still put out some great games inbetween the not so good ones.
Modern capcom is bunk and has been for a while, but I dare you to name a company that even comes close to capcoms overall output. The only ones I think are on the same level are nintendo and maybe sega, but they are/were first party publishers and work on a way bigger scale as a result.

I should clarify that capcom put out lots of good and at least a couple great games EVERY YEAR they were considered good. check it yourself, there's a ton of capcom games that are cult classics for a reason
ace attourney
viewtiful joe was super popular for a couple years
Grayson Clark

>Modern capcom is bunk and has been for a while
Andrew Brooks
>Capcom >not Arika, the superior company funded by ex-employees with talent This fuels my anger
Eli Nguyen
I just looked and they haven't made a single game that looks worth playing.
Gavin Gonzalez
>Depending on when you decide that the company became "bad" It's a rather precisely defined point: when the majority of their best directors, then grouped at Clover, decided to get up and leave. Who's Capcom got left? Takumi is still there, who else? Even Conman has quit Capcom by now.
It's still a good developer, but it simply is no heir to what is used to be, because the people who made the company so great have all left.
David Evans
I'm a pretty big fan of akiras stuff, but do you really think a company that's only made sf ex/fighting layer and a couple of puzzle games using other peoples licenses can compare to capcom? I could legit name 100 games of all kinds of genres that are at least 8/10
post clover is still over 20 years of massive quality.
anyway capcom still has/had itsuno, and the monster hunter guys are clearly doing something right.
Anthony Smith
Is this a meme? Capcom only puts out shit nowadays. In the last 5 years theyve managed to widdle down their profitable franchises to 2, and are hard at work fucking those 2 up too.
Jordan Morgan
>post clover is still over 20 years of massive quality. What?
Nathaniel Jones
hey capcom, where's our new original megaman game...oh..right
Daniel Turner
clover shut down in 2007
capcom made games since around 1984 but it's 1987 (the year bionic commando, megaman and the original street fighter, among other things came out) that is when capcom really started this trend of putting out tons of great stuff literally every year. meaning that there's at least 20 years of great capcom stuff before the time they "died" when clover left.
It's a shame what's happened to the series but they made literally over a hundred megaman games, with tons of different takes on the character and franchise over decades so pardon me if I don't feel too bad when I'm sitting here waiting for the actual viewtiful joe 3
Charles Sullivan
>clover shut down in 2007 Yes, so it's not 20 years post Clover. But if you meant 20 years BEFORE Clover, sure, that's the point: before that, back when everyone from Fujiwara to Mikami (and Mikami's proteges like Kamiya and Takumi) were at the company, Capcom was amazing. After than, not so much. That's my whole freaking point, right?
Jordan Hughes
Capcom still consistently releases the best games on the market, but that's why we are so hard on them. It's idiotic as a consumer to defend a giant corporation like that. There is literally no benefit to it.
Christian Smith
and what amazing list of games are arkira known for?
street fighter ex.........??
Sebastian Barnes
You know what I find really funny about Capcom? They sold Read Dead to Rockstar and now that franchise has put itself in a position to more successful than any capcom game or franchise
Talk about shitty development and production on Capcoms part.
Robert Hernandez
OP was talking about overall output. You can't deny they've had a long time with hit after hit under they're belts. Doesn't matter where they're at today.
Benjamin Campbell
>Capcom still consistently releases the best games on the market, but that's why we are so hard on them. Not even remotely on the level of 80s, 90s or even mid-00s Capcom. Remember that it's the company that made everything from Mega Man to Makaimura to Street Fighter to Resident Evil to Devil May Cry to Okami etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. All they have today is Monster Hunter and a couple of failing fighting games, all of which are sequels.
Jaxson Thompson
dragons dogma would've been a legitmate 10/10 game of the decade contender if capcom didn't rush it out because "we want the skyrim/dark souls audience"
Oliver Perez
Whatever the reason and even considering all its strengths, Dragon's Dogma is on par with third-rate stuff Capcom released in the arcades at best. I mean, there are new IPs like Resident Evil or DMC. Then there's Dragon's Dogma.
Benjamin Hall
I agree. I actually started doing a chronological list of all of their releases for my own references, and I was taken aback just by how much there was and how much of it was solid at worst.
I think that one of the worst things to happen to them was the HD era. Their old model just seemed to be throwing out tons of small, quality games and occasionally making a masterpiece, and that really worked for them through the PS2 era. However, as is evident in the result of DMC4 getting the budget and time of a PS2 game, that just wouldn't cut it, and so the Capcom model is now obsolete. Whether this has any bearing on the greed and being out-of-touch, I don't know. Could be that their downfall was twofold thanks to a couple of their games just selling too well for their own good.
Jason Walker
>this >also DMC4 would have solved the main problem of DMC3 (lackluster environments and level design with little variation) if it had been allotted the proper dev time and funding Poor Itsuno just can't get a break.
Connor Russell
No, they re-release the best games on the market.
Caleb Rodriguez
Yes, that's why people give them shit. They have so many good IPs and ideas but they constantly squander them and constantly fuck up. If they only made shit I wouldn't care but the fact that they used to be so good, and seeing them in this state is what makes me hate them.
Nathaniel Rogers
They put themselves in the whole, and no matter how much they piss of their fans, they just don't care, so why should I? The only thing that they actually treat well is Monster Hunter.
Adam Hernandez
They're a bit like a retarded dog. You wanna love them, no matter how many times they piss on the rug.
But they can never truly be hated. Not after creating so many flawless video game girls.
