Not really. Vagrant Story was overlooked back in the day because it was like nothing people grew to expect from Squaresoft.
people on Sup Forums complain endlessly about not getting the combat system or not being able to follow the story
All Sup Forums posters are brainlets, but that doesn't mean all brainlets are Sup Forums posters
how do i beat the minotaur
punch its face until it dies.
i'm fucking serious.
Weapon Switching Through a Menu - The Game.
>Pick the right weapon for the weakness - The game
So pretty much Mega Man and a dozen other JRPG's Persona and SMT included.
Another pseudo-intellectual reductionist with his head up his ass pretending to be smetr.
>get crossbow so he can'treach me
>it has only slightly bigger range, but also does pisspoor damage
You have to constantly switch your entire equipment multiple times in one room, or you fuck up your leveling. They really needed an option for item sets
VS is actually shallow as shit, the combat system isn't complex or hard to grasp, it's just convoluted. It throws new players off by bombarding them with obscure stats and info that doesn't even matter. This game isn't deep, stop overthinking it
Don't get me wrong, game's great and all. However, making the core mechanic incredibly tedious doesn't exactly help it's cause.
punch it with the Hand of light
How does he keep his hair like that?
i do not like this, i genuinely quit the game at that part, i had plenty of other games to move onto anyways.
i honestly didn't think I would have been able to reach his head.
will this game ever make a comeback on the PSN...?
I tried to play this game but the protag's ahoge infuriated me so much I had to stop.
Doesn't Vagrant Story take place in the same world as FF Tactics?
any strategy game
also any FPS once you get to higher ranks
Yep. It talks about what a great kind Delita was.
But user, that's not a grand strategy game/classic roguelike/rts/high micro 4x/etc.
It's set in Ivalice, same as FFT and FF12, though they aren't exactly connected by anything meaningful.
Probably the best game on the PS1, its a shame we never got a sequel.
Why does the art look like Octopath Traveler? Is it the same artist?
Spotted the retard. My work here is done.
It references Ivalice, but Matsuno said in a tweet a few years back that it was just fanservice included at Square's behest, and not necessarily canon. Basically product placement
Care to explain?
Same poster as in here, I didn't see this thread.
I never managed to get past the first dungeon, got too confused with all the weapons having to be specialized fro each kind of monster.
Also, which version of FFTactics should I emulate?
You don't need weapons specialized for each monster. Physical damage type and elemental affinity are the important stats
The intro in this game still holds up, it's crazy, the way they use fake lighting and shit

The legend
I only bought this because the dude had cool hair and let me tell you i was not impressed with the actual game
I have played this many times over the course of many years but never very far into it. Serious question time, is there any way to reduce risk instead of using items whilst in combat?
>Risk 99
>Miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, 0, miss, miss
Sheathing your weapon and running around.
I always felt that would be suicide.
this and stop doing 10+ chains you brainlet, lrn2 manage risk
Sydney did nothing wrong
brainlet repellent?
I got just the right game
the music is GOD tier

>Y-you too
I can't stand the combat.
Only chain 10+ times if you're going balls to the wall and you're sure you're gonna kill something
Otherwise the boss will turn around and one shot you if you don't hit the defensive chain in time
I really need to play it again. I always found that I played this game in times when I didn't have time to play games, so I didn't really pay attention. I have about 5 games left on my backlog, so I might as well.
Legend of Mana
What were they thinking?
>100+ hours played
>still exploring in the second disc.
Buying this game was a mistake.
>brainlet
This is just a term made up by /lit/ and /sci/ to dickwave at /fit/ and Sup Forums.
>tfw Sup Forums is high school clique culture all over again
What a low tier pick. That game in particular had a bunch of real problems that went beyond people not wanting to understand how morale worked
Here's an actual example.

Actual smart people don't play video games.
actual smart people don't call video games shit

>brainlet repellent
More like pussy repellent.
Actual smart people know how to begin sentences with capital letters, and end them with periods.

I've been lurking the Vagrant Story thread in /vr/ for a while now. Incase you made this thread because if it, I'm the one guy getting destroyed in the second dungeon and raging about the shitty damage values.
Matsuno didn't intend it that way (despite it fitting well) when he wrote it. Square basically made it canon when they released FFXII. FXII has Vagrant Story shit everywhere, from the location being on the map to using the same calendar to a religion.
Is it being a brainlet to think this game would be 100x better if the loading between menus wasn't so damn long?
what boss are you stuck on?
>tfw there will never be another Ivalice game
I'm on the Ogre, my attacks deal no damage so I'm trying to brute force past him with Raging Ache and 100% risk. Just got him below 100 hp but I missed damage absorb once and died.
Ogre's a bitch tbqh, iirc even after analyzing, buffing/debuffing and gemming etc I did 0 damage.
I'm not sure if you have it, but there's 2 chain abilities that you can use to scum, one builds your phantom points(PP) and another releases them, so if you charge 5+ weapons up you can pretty much 5 hit any boss
If you don't have that yet, just use the good ol' Heavy blow + crimson pain combo
if I recall correctly there's a ledge in ogres room, if you really want to scum, get him to jump up, you can get a shitload of attacks in because enemys can't attack when they're jumping, just rinse and repeat until you kill him
Are you sure? IIRC there is gear in Vagrant Story that references King Delita.
Next 24 man raid in FFXIV is called Return to Ivalice.
Dude just do chain attacks. The whole "build up affinity on diff weapons for each monster types" is a grindy cheese way of getting through the game with out ever learning to do chain attacks.
The core mechanic is that you press a button as you hit the enemy to chain into another attack and get additional effects. You can chain thing do death even if they have full resistance to you and your initial hit is 0.
the opening but most of all the camera work is pure fucking kino.
yfw you only used Fandango the whole game
fucking this
youtube.com
just put it on full screem and watch, literally movie-tier
Got him, I didn't have the PP skill so I continued with the Raging Ache method, it wasn't that bad since he's only got one attack that's easy to block with damage absorb, I also didn't see the ledge anywhere, but maybe I'm just blind, thanks for the tips anyway.
Been using the Fandango a lot as well, it just works
good job lad, the story really picks up from here, so enjoy it
It is on PSN.
...
Just beat the game on ng+, credits are playing right now, ask me anything.
I enjoyed Vagrant Story but I honestly remember nothing about the plot aside from the part where MC see his dead wife and child again.
This is one of those games saved by being made when 3d models were blurry messes so you couldn't actually see just how bad the character design is.
Everyone dresses like a fucking bondage slave with the exception of Guildenstern.
That's cool I guess, I just died to some fucking GIANT ENEMY CRAB and lost a nice Tower Shield with a wind affinity gem I had just got from some random undead.
I honestly don't even know how you can die to things that are not a dragons breath or magic.
