I want to discuss this game, I think it was pretty good

Okay guys. I bought this last night and am enjoying it. But then I found out I have the first game in the series on PS4/Vita due to having it from PS+. So should I play that first and then this? Or just play this so I don't get burnt out and play the first one at a later date?

So does it do anything significantly different/greater the original or is it just more block-breaking with the occasional trip back to upgrade your shit? I enjoyed the first game but I dunno if I want to spend twenty bucks on doing essentially the same thing just yet.

The first one you can beat in around 4 or so hours, haven't played 2 yet but it's apparently around double or so that first time through and it seems 2 improves everything from 1 so you may not feel like going through 1 after you beat 2 due to the improvements 2 had so I'd say to get through 1 first

Oh wow, it's that short? 8 hours sounds a bit short too, but I'll take my time with it. I think I'll start the first one if I have more time between the end of Dig 2 and Odyssey.

Yeah, it is pretty good. I dunno what else to say about it.

I usually don't expect to get 10+ hours from indie games unless it's some RPG or some sort and I'm fine with that as I'd rather have a game be shorter than have it drag on longer than it should, to me it's about the experience no matter how long or short it is. Also I almost forgot to mention SWD2 has post game content for 100% completion which SWD1 lacks

Eh. If it's not got SteamWorld Heist's combat I don't want it.

>Dorothy

I rather play as Rusty

around quarter through the second game resources and upgrading isn't the main focus, it starts to feel like metroidvania. Also the game has a lot more secrets and much more interesting upgrade system
I'm not sure if it's worth buying for you, but you can always just torrent it

that computer world with dead robots was spooky, wasn't expecting that

I can't find all the secrets

How do you unlock the demon door?

What's the secret in that level where the lava rises?

I'm missing 2 artifacts, and the only cave I haven't found the secrets in is the one where the lava rises.

Overall the game is pretty good, it expanded on the original but I think it could be more metroid in terms of it's level design, I think there should be at least 2 more mines as well, they have the tilesets for 3 more mines but don't really go with it for some reason, I think the addition of the overworld was great, I hate the way that characters are animated, paper dolls suck ass, give me hand drawn any day of the week, a lot of the powerups are fun too. Rusty is he better protag.

It was pretty neat.

Haven't finished yet, but I am getting some extreme Diablo vibes from this premise now.

>first game
>just digging deeper and deeper in one mineshaft beneath one town you return to periodically
>find a malevolent being in the depest depths and destroy it, but carrying its power inside you

>second game
>first game's protagonist acts funny and leaves quietly
>follow him to the east in a new land, trying to track him down as he's apparently spreading chaos, using the villain's powers
>instead of just one mineshaft under a single town, you're going to multiple locations as the adventure is a wider scope

I still liked SteamWorld Heist more than Dig, but I'm certainly having some good fun with this game.

Heist 2 when?

If a Heist 2 happens that expands on the first as much as this game did for Dig, then sign me the fuck up. I will jump on that shit.

>demon door
Get all the artifacts
>lava room
Hang out at the top for a while or tank the lava and search the very bottom
Also, the map of each area tells you the secrets uncovered percentage.

It's good but short. Not sure it was worth $20 for 6-10 hours and Dorothy isn't really interesting, but overall I've had have with it

I hope this god of death returns.

Can you Unlock Rusty?

What genera would you want for their next game Sup Forums?

Dig

>Thought he was shit cause he could only use pistols.
>Can walk up bop a fucker and walk away for free.
Always bring brass knuckles to a gun fight.

So Sup Forums, tell me about steam world Dig and the steam world franchise.

They seem quiet neat.

Where is this demon door exactly? I've 100%'d every area and haven't come across anything like it.

Fly high in the eastern sky.

You play a robot.
You dig.
>Heist
You play a robot.
Board ships.
Shoot shit.

You forgot
>shoot hats off
>put hats on

Thanks, now I have 1 mine secret left in the swamp and the lava temple, fuck my anus more often please.

I could go into detail. I'm content with the basics.
I was quite surprised the first time I saw just their hat fly off.

I'm either really incompetent or I didn't get what you said, pls halp.

Just go across the top. You'll find it.

See that tetronimo piece floating there, the t shape on it's side, above that.

Are there any super good upgrades to get early. I just got the one that gives me $7 from just killing the weak shit which seems amazing

The pick one that gives you money for every kill and the backpack one that gives you money whenever you find a low value ore. also the pick one that gives you bonus exp.

The bag upgrades are good for saving time and later for getting even more money.

not him, but so far I've been spreading my upgrades and cogs out evenly. should I focus more on certain lines than others?

i liked the first one, but i haven't gotten around to this yet
i'll have to get around to it after i finish with my current games

You'll be fine.

I enjoyed the first one. Digging to buy upgrades to dig better is a solid formula. But $20? It seems like a bit much.

You can reinvest your cogs so it doesn't really matter, you just want to focus on getting money and levels early.

So I've just completed all of the caves with their secrets if you are missing some just ask, still missing 2 secrets in mines though, or secret caves I have yet to find.

I'd say it is, it's a $15 game at best, personally I wanted the content of at least 2 more zones, then I would have called it an easy $20.

Anyone else think they should have put a boss right before the doomsday machines? Really my only complaint with the game.

Also, how much luck have you all had with sequence breaking using the hook shot?

>sequence breaking with hookshot

Didn't do any, couldn't find a way into yarrow early.

is this better than the first game? I don't know anything about it, but I really don't like the main character. Dude from the first game was fucking rad. It's like I got to play as robot clint eastwood

I think it might be possible to to get in early with it and a well timed explosion to push you up a bit more.
I was able to finish exploring the western temple including destroying the doomsday machine there before going to the east.

It's overall better than the first game and about twice as long.

I like the overworld town music

Yeah, 1 more secret to find.

Kind of short, but very enjoyable. Glad they dropped the procedural generating meme and made it into a Metroidvania instead.

Only has three bosses including tutorial boss.

I've just gone from top to bottom of Yarrow and I can't find the last secret, fuck me.

There's one that's kind of in the middle of the shaft in the lower half.

Thanks, that's all the secrets found.

Thinking of grabbing it on switch, is it long?

I beat it in 10 hours.

What happens to mah boi Rusty? Does Dorothy become "electric" as well?

You may want to play the game to find out.

I don't have enough money right now.
Also, I still have to play and beat Heist.

What's your favorite little line in the game?

>the Earth without "art" is just eh.

You can pirate it on PC.

Rusty is the leader of a death cult,
Dorothy doesn't become voltronic.

Wasn't even aware it was a thing.
How good is it?

>Rusty is the leader of a death cult,
Come on now. I wanted use the likely upgrades he got after killing the final boss.

Ain't that some shit.
Nah, I liked the first Dig enough to support this eventually.

Significant improvement over the first one, much bigger map, much bigger dig zones, better equipment, you can go left and right out of the main town and find other areas to explore.

I don't even remember the upgrades you got in the first one but the upgrades from the second one are much improved.

Pirate now and support eventually then, I liked the first one too, so I brought the sequel as soon as it was available.

>Pirate now and support eventually then
Nowayfag.jpg
What'd be the point when I still have to start Heist?

>De ska va gôtt å grava!

Well Rusty had shining robot eyes implying there might have been something going on after the final boss, but no NG+ meant no way to tell.

Do you kill him at the end?

Fuck. I got that a wrong.
>De ska va gôtt å gräva!

just beat it. is there more than one ending?

His shining robot eyes are definitely relevant to the story in the second one.

I think so, isn't that the setup for Steamworld heist, it even shows you that there is a plan for steamworld dig 3, with maybe 2 player digging. ETA years off.

i played a little bit of the first one, and to me it just felt like a flash game. anything new in this one?

More Metroid like in the sequel, not quite as interlinked as I would like however.

Not unless you need all gold stars for it. I beat it normally, with 100% + the skull dungeon completed, and with the three hard mode cog abilities equipped. I got the same ending each time.
