Monster Hunter World

I am concerned that my favorite game series that I have played since 2008 will be casualized and be sold to a wider audience by a shitty corporation(Capcom) that has done the same for many of my other favorite series(Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom) and ruined them.

Despite this, whenever I try to post about these concerns I have for one of my favorite game series, people instantly label me as a $200 Nintendo-Box Fanboy who is butt hurt that the game is coming to a platform that isn't the $200 Nintendo-Box. I don't give a single FUCK what platform the game is on, I'll fucking play it, what I do give a fuck about is if that series, one of my favorite game series, will be ruined.

If I could go back in time and make this game series exclusive to only the platform that I prefer, I would do it. If I could go back in time and guarantee that I would not be required to buy a $200 Nintendo-Box to play one of my favorite game series, I fucking would, but I can't.

If Monster Hunter was exclusive to a brand new Capcom console literally called "Monster-Hunter Machine" that was $300 and ONLY played Monster Hunter, I would fucking buy it. I wouldn't like it, but I would do it to play one of my favorite game series.

Now that this is out of the way and you all obviously agree with me, can we voice our concerns about the new Monster Hunter game, free from console war false flagging and shit-posting?

If I could go back in time, I would make Monster Hunter exclusive to the platform of my choice and I would also stop 9/11.

if I could go back in time, I would murder OP before he could grow up and become a faggot

This.

If anything MonHun World will be less casual than any Nintendo console entry.

Long time MH fan, I wont buy MHW and ive owned every MH game released in the West.
Hope Capcom learns their lesson when this bombs and they come back begging for Nintendo to help them release MH5 on the Switch.

ive known of the games since psp, then got 3u when it came to the 3ds, so im a new-ish fan. im hyped for World, initially just how it looked was enough for me, but learning about the new mechanics is always exciting for me. So if it feels too casual, that sucks. but theres always replaying old titles to roll back on.

What casualizations are you concerned about user?

Asking seriously too, I'm a vet of the series since FU days and think this looks to be the next evolution of MH, and am excited to see them making it more accessible to new players

Why won't you buy it user

I too am a long time fan of the series and am getting it day one

Judging from journalist press access gameplay its not very casualized so far.

Been playing since MH1

The game needed an overhaul at this point, I did not like the direction they were going with the series with X/XX at all. A fresh restart that reverts the aesthetic back to the 1/2 gen games while still maintaining the core combat was a good choice. If MH5 was another 3DS title with over-saturated anime aesthetic and arts/styles fully implemented I probably wouldn't have bought the game at all.

>I am concerned that my favorite game series that I have played since 2008 will be casualized and be sold to a wider audience by a shitty corporation(Capcom)

It's not casualization, it's called making a good game. If you Monster Hunter retards actually played a good video game once in your lives, you'd know that it lacks any actual good game design, let alone anything good. Even Drakengard is better than this crap.

>Now that this is out of the way and you all obviously agree with me
Subtle.

not OP but the biggest red flag for me so far has been the skills. with threshold requirements for skills gone and this new point system in, it seems like minmaxing armor is going to be largely irrelevant and instead you're just gonna max out whatever skill happens to be the best for your weapon/playstyle and dump the rest into the second best. Granted since the games not out it's hard to say how much of an impact +3 atk will be compared to +4, but so far it seems like there really wont be much difference, so your choice of armors and jewels (not sure if theres any news on jewels) has much less impact and is therefore less meaningful.

>M-muh archaic gameplay mechanics for my 13 year old autistic skinner box game is being changed!

You can only build so much shit on PS2 assets before enough is enough, user.

Why do you even try anymore? This board is full of shills and contrarians, none of them will admit it looks bad. Wait til it releases, they'll go back on their words then, like usual.

We've seen exactly how Attack Up works at least, it maxes out exactly the same it just has more increments than Attack up S/M/L/XL had. So just slapping on armor that comes with Attack +1 on its own won't give any huge benefit. Shitters who don't know how skills work are just going to end up with a ton of weak skills instead of no skills. Decorations are still in but we haven't seen em in action yet, and armor also has set bonuses but we've only seen one of em. Wearing 3 out of 5 of the Anjanath armor gives you reduced stamina consumption when below 30% HP.

Monster Hunter is better now that it's not confined to Nintendo's weak system. That's in no way any cause for concern.

>OMG this new Resident Evil is so much better than the old one even though it changed everything about the old one. Fuck the fans of the old Resident Evil. This is how it should be.

Same thing is happening to Monster Hunter but somehow it's bad now. Nintenbros sure have a great case of double standards.

I forgot to post the image.

OP....can u be any more if a crybaby faggot??? Waaaaa!!!! No MHXX localisation. Waaaaa!!! THE isn't coming to switch or 3DS. WAAAAA!!! Lol.

Fucking dushers complaining ab min/maxing Skills threshold and how that's too easy now....Well fuck...buying butter at a store is to fucking simple....lemme go find a Butter Churn....if it's not grindy/painful....it ain't fun

I feel the exact same way. I have a PS4 and a PC but apparently I'm a seething nintenbro if I voice any complaints about this game. They don't even address any of my arguments, just shit post.

Even though some aspects are definitely casualized, I do feel a little better after seeing some of the new gameplay though. I saw a video where the hunter carted after being hit 2 or 3 times by the new monster (something gigante). So hopefully the monster damage isn't going to be a complete joke like we've seen up until this point.

They've stated multiple times that monster damage is toned down for the demo builds so newbies/journalists don't get their asses kicked, as it's been with every MH release for ages.

You forgot to mention that you have a PS4 and a PC but not a Switch.

FUCK OP, THIS IS A MH WORLD THREAD NOW!

>What weapon?
>What are you most excited for?
>Will you be playing solo, with randoms, or with friends?
>What color is your Felyne gonna be?

Hammer, LS and DS are my go to weapons but I'm interested in LBG in MHW for the first time.
I am full lone hunter.

shill

Pretty sure the MH team isn't one for catering to casuals, plus if you do have a problem with the game you can always go play monster hunter XX

Lance
Huntan with friends that wouldn't give the games a shot on the 3DS (or couldn't since their 3DS broke)
Solo and with friends
Black and white

SEETHING

What were his reactions for MH1, MHG, MHP, MH2, MHP2, MHP2G, MHP3 and MHP3 HD?

X and XX were anniversary spinoff games made to be over the top and crazy, no one with half a brain actually thought that major mechanics from those would actually carry over to next generation

let's get this shitshow started already

List of casualizations in Monster Hunter World:
>Healing while running
>Can dodge while healing
>Moving while shooting
>Machine-gun like shots
>Voice acting telling where to go and what to do
>Flies telling where to go and what to do
>Anime moves like the IG being able to fly through the air
>Too much mobility (Weapons have been given special dodge moves, etc)
>Can dodge out of a GS charge
>Environment is as good as attacking a monster
>Free traps, flashbugs, etc, everywhere
>Free farcaster that can be used anytime, anywhere as long as you're not near the monster
>Weapon changing mid hunt
>Can REFILL YOUR FUCKING POTIONS AND ANY OTHER ITEM MID HUNT WITH NO CONSEQUENCES
>Weapon trees in game
>Likely no G-Rank
>Monsters to little no no damage in the trailers
>Grappling hook
>Even easier mounting
>Heartbeat telling you when to capture
>Damage numbers
>Heavy and Light bowguns have infinite special ammo
>Prompt on screens shows you combos
>Prompt on screen shows breaks
>Casualised HH, songs are stored to be played anytime, notes needed for songs on screen at all times
>Broken weapons, all of them had their aerial and brave movesets merged

Not casualisations, but problems overall
>Generic ochestral, awdul sounding music
>Generic, awful voice acting
>Story focus
>Cinematic garbage
>Generic, non-MH like monster designs, some being literally frontier tier
>PRE ORDER BONUSES

Feel free to add to this list.

Still fun for those games tho.
Just as a great man once said
"We're here for a good time, not a long time"

Same. Imagine Al Gore as president

Half your list is literally wrong, fuck yourself you're not even getting a (You) for this.

I think it's looking pretty decent, but I'm still iffy on it being home console only.
I just don't trust Japan to pull their weight on a home console game or the West to actually buy enough of it.
It really depends on what Capcom's expectations are though.

Me and my girlfriend want to play it, she's played MH but I have no idea what MH is even about no joke

What am I in for?

every night with you isnt it? half that shit is a flat out lie, the rest are improvements or changes that come with every single monster hunter.

that list is so bad. cherry picking as fuck

I fixed it with actual problems:
>Healing while walking and sprinting with no flexing removes risk and dedication to actions that has always been a part of MonHun
>Can dodge out of healing to keep health gained and still evade attacks
>Non-segmented areas lead to getting hitlocked in spots and corridors not meant for fighting ala God Eater, as well as a less diversified map area in general (no areas thousands of feet apart ala Ruined Ridge and many Volcano areas)
>Big green GO HERE flies that you can’t turn off, fill up the screen, and are less subtle in general than paint or balloons, monsters STILL have static spawns
>IG gets air dashes while monsters are still made for land based combat
>Can dodge out of a GS charge with superarmor
>Free traps, flashbombs, damage dealers, etc, everywhere
>Free farcaster that can be used anytime you’re out of monster aggro
>Weapon and armor changing mid hunt for consequence-free hunting
>Heartbeat sensor replacing Capture Guru for even more intrusive and derivative UI elements
>Damage numbers
>Infinite use no cooldown grappling hook to escape scott-free and re-mount monsters
>Simplified mounting lets you use dash juice or HH to do infinite mounts
>No separate gunner armor to diversify looks and have gunner weapons make sense
>No negative armor skills to theme sets and make armor interesting with skill trade-offs
>Pre-order bonuses set precedent for DMC4SE and Capcom style DLC (real money for in-game items and currency)
>Horrible looking flagship and mediocre monster design in general

>Weapon tree in game

this is a bad thing?? jesus

Boss rush: The franchise
Kill dragons with oversized weapons to kill more dragons and make better armor and weapons from their corpses. Also you're protecting a village or something, but who cares there's monsters to stab.

This is still full of mistruths, lies, and opinions.

>I have no idea what MH is even about no joke
>This is who Capcom is appealing to for World

i see no rebuttals

did drake say that?

I don't see you caring about any previous ones.

how do you rebut an opinion? and a shitty one at that?

I'm not concerned. Game looks amazing and polished and they put a lot of time into it. I'm happy its not coming to the Switch because its not limited by last gen specs, further holding it back.

It seems most of the people complaining are autistic Switch fans.

Got em

>the state of nintendo fans

good for you...?

Have a problem fag?

the 3DS games already casualized it

why didnt you make a thread when they added an auto-camera?
why didnt you make a thread when they added mounting QTEs?

You nintensharts are so dishonest, and I will forever laugh at you for actually buying those 240p shitty worst MH games ever.

>Too much mobility (Weapons have been given special dodge moves, etc)

My biggest gripe with monster hunter is that I feel like a retard when trying to move around with slow weapons. I think a large part of that might be that my first game was Generations on the 3DS and I could not stand the controls.

The fact that you can heal while walking is an opinion? The fact that you can dodge out of the healing animation is an opinion? The green tracking flies are an opinion? Insect glaive getting multiple dashes where the monster can't hit you is an opinion? No gunner armor is an opinion?

The majority of that list is just confirmed facts. The only opinion I see there is that he doesn't like the look of the new monsters.

Heh, got em.
Capcom is dead.

some of your concerns are valid, but damn man it seems alot of your stuff comes down to the words "BUT I DONT LIKE CHANGE"

>healing needed to be changed, due to no loading screens. yes it can be done while moving, but it can be interrupted, and you cant just load out. (no more chuggin 3 potions to avoid death just taking a hit, no more loading out to avoid imminent monster rape)

>see above, you lose most of the heal without several seconds of dedicated time to drink the pot

>monsters seem to move the next fighting "area" similar to load screens, so you wont ever get stuck fighting in areas not meant for it.

>insects were confirmed optional, dont like em? dont use em.

>IG has always had rediclous mobility, having two dashes before falling wont cause any problems IG doesnt already cause.

>super armor =/= dodge, you still take 100% of the hit, you just get knocked down. good luck eating a shot to the face

>the enviromental stuff is a balance related change, and one that can add more fun to actually playing.

>there is still a timer, it will have the same problem as bringing several farcasters or just flat out going around the map for honey causes

>changing mid hunt is a QOL change

> yea because its SO hard to tell when they are limping

>id imagine mounting will still have increasing resistances, making no more than a couple sucesfull mounts per hunt possible

>while it sucks losing at the least the visual differences, it will make it far nicer to try out gunner sets not needing to build a dedicated set for them.

>negative armor skills were gemmed away incredibly easily and rarely were of any impact

>valid point of concern, hopefully the monster hunter devs stay the course as they have for many many games

>literally opinion

Crtl+f Sony 0 of 0
Crtl+f Nintendo 1 of 7

I wonder who's actually the problem here

MHO is better than World? Wat

Corporate cocksuckers in general?

Nintendies still latch onto PC when arguing?

>
Truth be told i didn't even read it i just like making fags like you get bent out of shape

can we ban all MHW thread?

>getting new people into an established franchise is an inherent bad thing
you're the problem

Hunting Horn
New set of monsters
Friends
Orange

>MHO better than World

Now that's just insulting.

spbp

Quit acting like you'll never get portable "hardcore" MH ever again when one just released this year and you refuse to shut the fuck up and play it.

>Insect glaive getting multiple dashes where the monster can't hit you is an opinion?
You don't honestly believe that shit has i frames do you? The french are still gonna get swatted like flies as usual.

>Healing worked fine with faster monsters like in G rank and Frontier, even in arena fights where you couldn't zone out, the healing systems worked and had purpose, you can see the speed at which the potion effects happen, it takes the same time as a normal chug and flex in the older games and you can move very fast, the only thing you'd need to worry about cancelling your potion at that speed is roars, and I feel like everyone's just going to build earplugs because losing a random max potion to a bad roar is going to be awful

>don't like it don't use it is a terrible argument, it's like saying don't use the dodge arts in XX when the game is balanced around them

>IG now has infinite air dodges with any energy drink or HH, every two air dashes you get a hit off and can make two more

>the shoulder bash for GS comes out much faster than a hit and covers about half the distance of a dodge, and can be chained into a dodge as well

>before, if you wanted to get around very large areas, you would have to carry farcasters and mats to make more if you wanted to get around fast, removing precious inventory space in the process

>changing gear mid hunt is not a QOL change, it lets you go without consequence for your gear, it would be fine if it was during free-hunt only, but it's not

>removing skills like Capture Guru and integrating them into the UI is terrible deisgn, what if you don't want to play with the intrusive glowey heartbeat sensor, will capture guru even be available as a skill for those who don't want to use it? capcom could have just as easily made the monsters spit out blood as a visual aid instead of lazily put a free indicator into the UI

>less armors is not a good thing, they could have at least made the armor change forms when you switched to gunner, but they didn't even bother doing that, gunner armor was heavily armored on one side for a reason, and it made gunning look better and make more sense

cont.

Generations exist user
Who cry about that first
>buh i am not a nintendrune xDD
sure kiddo

>negative armor skills actually would have made a difference with the new skill system, you wouldn't be able to gem out to a -9 instead of a -10

I'm going to buy the game and play the shit out of it, but a lot of the design decisions have me really worried about the difficulty and longevity of the game, the reason myself and a lot of other people (barring console warriors) are complaining is because we don't want to see our favorite series go to shit

I honestly think the healing is fine IF they have really fast and difficult monsters to balance it. I don't think the vanilla game will have any but I can only hope we'll get some sort of higher rank filled with monsters that will force you to cancel your healing if used at a bad time. I'm not a big fan of the healing currently but at least it isn't instant and I can at least hope we get some real good challenges to make up for it.

Why is the Monster Hunter fanbase (read: Sup Forums and /vg/'s MH fanbase) so obsessed with the series "muh hardcore gaemu"? Unless you think grinding HAME runs and farming monkey dick for 100 hours is the definition of hardcore and engaging gameplay. Game looks fine, stop bitching.

autism. every time

If the only reason that Monster Hunter is good is that it's difficult and has a lot of content, then it's not good.

You're forgetting basically everything else that's appealing about Monster Hunter, and focusing on irrelevancies. Having concerns is fine; actually getting worried about it is a waste of emotional energy. It's still just a video game in the end, even if you love it with all your heart.

I guess I've been "betrayed" too many times to really get worked up about it. I mean, if I got angry at Resident Evil 4 for not being like Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3, I would've been cheating myself out of a game that was actually worth a damn. Not to mention, Resident Evil 7 turned out pretty well, too, despite being quite different in portrayal and execution, and that wasn't long enough ago to forget about.

Capcom's other recent offerings i.e. Mahvel have all suffered from major budgetary lapses, and for once, it's not because they're funneling money into mobileshit: they're clearly banking big on Monster Hunter, and for that reason, I'm thinking it'll turn out all right.

plus they improved fishing, and I am all about that

Look man, I completely understand your concerns and all but I'm actually looking forward to some of these changes that'll make the game easier. I've been playing since Freedom 1 on the PSP and I can tell you that nothing excites me more for a laid-back back hunting experience. I just finished making the Dreadking and Hellblade armor sets as well as getting them to function in Generations solo and between all these deviant monsters and apex monsters in 4u it's just gotten a bit out off control. I'm tired of having to put my absolute best into each hunt, I just want something a bit more laid-back while not completely trivializing the game and that's what I'm hoping World does.

LS, DB, Charge Blade, and Insect glaive
All the QoL improvements. I'm especially excited about no more fucking loading zones and no more flex
Solo
Don't know yet

I will say, the fishing, ecosystem interactions, and a lot of other shit looks absolutely fantastic, I'm just worried because Capcom has a tendency to fuck up their big franchises trying to go big, and then completely ignore them after they don't do well, Tsujimoto and Fujioka look like they're pouring their hearts into the game and that's great, but I'll keep the cautious pessimism and when the demo comes out, be happy when it turns out (hopefully) better than I made it out to be

What's killing me is they killed the whole gather your friends for a day and play a game together aspect of it by ditching handhelds. Now your friends need to have the game on the same platform since there is no cross play.

Also everyone I see flocking to this game are players who've never liked Monster Hunter before because now "it looks like Dark Souls".

I just wanted my cozy hunting game with mechanics that worked and have been ingrained into the series since day 1.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

>If the only reason that Monster Hunter is good is that it's difficult and has a lot of content, then it's not good.
Fucking this. All the whiners are always so obsessed with the difficulty as if it's the only part of MH that actually matters.
As someone who's solo'd G Rank in multiple games, I'm glad a lot of the more frustrating aspects are getting toned down or removed. Sure MH has been difficult, but it's often straddled the line into frustrating more than fun for me, especially once you get to G. Even if it's less difficult, the game itself looks more fun to play now, and that's what's truly important.

>I just wanted my cozy hunting game with mechanics that worked and have been ingrained into the series since day 1.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It is broke though. Especially since day 1, where every single monster was a flying wyvern with few exceptions, you attacked with the right stick, and the hitboxes were pure shit.

>What's killing me is they killed the whole gather your friends for a day and play a game together aspect of it by ditching handhelds. Now your friends need to have the game on the same platform since there is no cross play.
This is the thing that fucks me up most.

I don't care if MH is multiplat so long as it's crossplay, but not having crossplay means that the playerbase is gonna be fractured. I never had an issue asking for hunts before, but now I'm gonna run into MHW players on PC and MHW players on PS4.

do not bully the ruirui

youtube.com/watch?v=_PKgq2lYYDg

watch mhw live!

The main problem with Capcom usually is they completely change the core gameplay or really fuck up things about the series. MH World has the exact same core gameplay with frustrating aspects removed or improved, and only a few really controversial tweaks which are all good so it's gonna be fine.

Too bad Sony are massive greedy cocksuckers and have already confirmed that there would be no crossplay. Which sucks ass, because my friends are really hyped about the game but they're PC exclusive, while I play on PS4 for multiplats because my PC is toaster tier.

>GS is love, GS is life
>new monsters and lewd fan art
>mostly solo
>don't care

Ok.

Can we get this out of the way right now, otherwise the shitposting will never stop.

>Casualized
What does this mean exactly?
I've seen the webm of the hunter sprinting while drinking (in the same gif the hunter recovered health slower than the near instant it usually takes in every other game).

Is this a casualization? Will there be less difficulty because you dont have to sit still and drink every time? Why cant the game have been designed around this? Therefore making harder monsters more aggressive or have more wide reaching, dodge crucial moves?

Other "casualizations" include
>trap frogs/bugs in the enviornment
Considering the game is more world focused it would make sense for the zones to be less of empty arenas like they used to be and actually filled with things you can interact with. It's only a casualization if you're specifically making your way towards them every hunt. Just having a paralysis frog near you that you can trigger (and cant effect you) is just another interaction. Plus this means your cat likely wont be able to set traps for you in solo hunt.
I would also expect regular boss arenas for things like elder dragons to return as well.
>Slinger getting you out of situations
It costs stamina to use as far as I understand, so I would expect it to be balance in such a way that it cant be spammed. And if you're constantly getting out of danger, that's damage you arent doing to the monster. So I guess it's possible to call it a casualization if you want time inflated hunts

Any others I'm missing?
Just because they made Mon Hun a more palatable game doesn't mean it wont or cant be challenging. Every Mon Hun isn't challenging until much further in, likely when you're fighting sub species/deviants (or multiple at a time). Most of the changes just make the game in general a smoother experience for starting players, which is objectively a good thing especially if you want the games not tied to portable platforms and on fucking PC.

well pc is a leper colony and xbonex is nogaems, so the choice is obvious.

>not having crossplay means that the playerbase is gonna be fractured
I'm an MH newfag but didn't the Wii and 3DS online code bullcrap already severely limit the previous games? It's not an MMO, I don't see how putting this game on literally the two biggest modern gaming platforms is going to change anything.

It's the worst. Since MHFU, I've managed to recruit my brother, two cousins, and three friends to play. Once a week they'd pop in, we'd show eachother what new armors we got, help eachother grind, order a pizza and go home.

Now it's gonna be a droning Discord session where everyone is disconnected and shit.

Call me a Nintenbro whatever, but the Switch was perfect for the next MH title. It's pretty upsetting.

Just wait for the inevitable monster DLC. Then buy the half priced G-rank DLC.

>Then buy the half priced G-rank DLC.
Sounds better than buying the full priced G-Rank version of the game you already bought

Do you live in Japan? We usually don't do that.

Those games were all exclusive to a single platform. If you wanted to play MHTri with someone and they had a Wii, great. Wanted to play MHFU with your PSP bros? Easy.

With MHW, there's that extra barrier, because I won't be able to play my PS4 copy of MHW with my friends buying it later on PC, who are plentiful.

I feel you there. I got my bro and one IRL friend into MH on the 3DS, but they don't have PS4s. My close online friend always wanted to play a MH, but he's a PC player first and foremost. Everyone else is divided between PS4 and PC.

Not putting MHW on the Switch really was a missed opportunity. I may not be 100% on-board with MHW, but that shit's perfect for MH.

If I want to figure out which weapon is stronger, I just have to multiply the raw by the sharpness multiplier right?
Baran Rebellion comes to have 409 attack while the Baraq Rebellion has 406.
