if i remember right autobots were tyrants that even made other transformers fight to the death in a colloseum, megatron went fuck that and orchestrated a revolution killing most autobots. Yes, he`s a megalomaniac bent on world control but he did have a point that he couldnt just stop halfway with the genocide cause thats just asking for a repeat down the line.

Because it's an old archetype and people have moved on from that a long time ago; at best, it's an expanded elaborated version of that or it's even used as a joke for a minor villain character who gets dispatched immediately, but it's way too simple for today's standards of storytelling to be used in full force.
