I'd rather not

NO

I started a couple projects back in early 00s.
Never finished them, though put dozens of hours in each. I think I still got the files.

Yes, on the psx version. Some time later super columbine massacre rpg came out and I realized how much the software is actually capable of compared to the simple shit I made. Never touched it again because I didn't have that kind of ambition..

Share the files.

>made a Zelda clone in rpg maker 2003
>It has no real story but has an 200 hour campaign.
>Spent countless nights over 7 years fine tuning the game from middle school to high school
>I replay it occasionally and feel like I should share it
>I always remember I can't make any money from it since I stole most of the scripts to make the gameplay work
>To stupid to learn how to just rewrite the scripts
I have money now, I've thought about hiring a programmer to rewrite the game scripts to make it original and free from lawsuit. Should I?

I fear I won't be able to recoup the money I would spend.

You could try offering royalties as payment.

Fuck, that looks really amazing and reminds me of my Resident Evil RPG Maker project. I worked on it with my friend and we had whole Raccoon City, most of characters from Resi 0-1-2-3, story merged and fixed into one big game and we worked slowly towards release (there was, or maybe still is, demo version around on the internet). Sadly
my friend died, her parents sold everything and moved out.
It was almost 15 years ago :( I miss her and good times we had making a game.

A few, though none to completion and most have just been playing around because it's fun with no real goal.

Man. I really want to make a demake RPG maker game now.

Why not use kikestarter?
Or don't be a faggot and release it for free.

>Release it for free
I'd rather not release it, obviously
Kickstarter isn't a good idea either.

no i'm not a fag

Why not? Do you not stand behind your game? If so why even sell it in the first place?

The bottom line is, you can make a neat freeware game that a few people play or a paid RPG Maker game that two people will play.

I've got plenty of abandoned projects, but I'm currently working on actually finishing one of them.
Technically I did finish one, but it was just based off of a dungeon crawler board game I made for me and my friends to play back in high school, it has no story really, so its nothing special, I just made it to prove to myself that I could actually finish some sort of game with RPG Maker, so I could become inspired enough to actually finish legitimate attempts at RPG Maker games.

Make it episodic and release the first 10%
Pretend the rest isnt quite finished yet and make a kikestarter or patreon.
If the game is any good you won if it isnt you lost nothing

I made several assets for rpgmakergames including music, sprites and mini-games.
My last project is a mix of a puzzle game with investigation and the visual novel Long Live the Queen. I hope I get time and money to work on it someday.

Making sprites to retell a fun old /tg/ campaign. The game will be absolute shit, but I'll give it to my players once it's done as a little memento of times past.
I think it's a good way to learn some skills at least.

I always got grand ideas for RPG maker stuff, but I could never get it to work out exactly how I'd like, I just lose what I wanted the plot to become, OR I have no idea what the fuck to do for in between the beginning and end of the story. I've been fucking around with RPG Maker FES so maybe I'll make something decent over time in that and then remake it in VX Ace or MV, who knows.

holy shit I would love to play this man if you have a download Link. I have a mighty need for Zelda clones. What's the gameplay like? Is it linear?

>Have you ever made a game with RPG Maker?
God, younger me put so much time into this shit.
Never forget Home 3: youtube.com/watch?v=lmnmudEqdTY

You would rather let your game be unplayed forever than to give it out for free? Why did you work on that for 7 years? Was it really only to earn a little cash?

>that horrid RPGMaker tileset

I released several maps and mini-games. Forever unplayed. Not just for rpgmaker.

>download Link

Have you tried Anodyne? it's not amazing but gave me Link's Awakening vibes.

If you want to do anything that's even slightly different from Dragon Quest or FF 1-4, there's absolutely no reason to use the RPGmaker. The software is crap, the engine is crap and if you want to anything outside of the very narrow presets, you have to code it yourself. You might as well use a proper engine and learn some actually applicable skills along the way.

>t. somebody that faffed around with this piece of shit for a year and then started rebuilding from the ground up in UE4

Jesus that brought back a flood of memories. I spent a whole summer doing a game in this and just gave up at some point.

No, do you have a Link (okay, I'll stop now) to it? Thanks for the recommendation; Link's Awakening is one of my favourite Zelda games.

There was one copy of this at my local rental shop growing up, and it was always checked out. I looked every weekend for years, and never once actually saw it available.

Now I realize it was some autismo actually trying to make a game with it. Poor guy.

store.steampowered.com/app/234900/Anodyne/
It's pretty good. More challenging than Zelda in terms of puzzles, combat and platforming, but it's fairly short and death is forgiving.

Thank you.

alright lads what's the best non-mainstream (Lisa, Ib, Yume Nikki, etc) RPG Maker game out there

and why is it The Cartographer

>double click on word
>right click
>click "search on google"
is that really so difficult?

Frontiers Extreme
somehow the westboro baptist church becomes an enemy in it

>not three the hard way

Not much of a game, but I'm having fun recreating some levels and other stuff from Dark Souls, with rpgmVX.

If you ever go through with it, I'd love to play

game.nicovideo.jp/atsumaru/games/gm3452
No competition. I usually don't care RPG Maker horror games, but this game is an exception. you don't even need to know Japanese to appreciate it.

LiEat or 1bitHeart

I really liked Rogue Galaxy and want to make a space pirate RPG, but I want a hook for the gameplay to set it apart from most usual turn-based games. Is RPG Maker the go-to system, or am I better off trying to work with another engine? Also, is 10 party members far too much for the player to work with if I went a 4-member system going?

It plays like link the past, but has 3 sub weapon slots, multiple different main weapons with rpg elements related to weapon training, and other stats.

The map is original, I'd have to look at it but it takes about and hour to scape from far right to far left and up and down. The game is based around "movements" or chapters, 7 in total each containing 10 linear objectives, each movement changing the map in some way, the first 4 movements open the quadrants of the map and the last 3 change certain elements (for example, one chapter all the bodies of waters are drained, opening up subsections of the map).

There are 58 dungeons related to the main quest, and 42 side dungeons that are optional.

There are something like 300 side quests, many rewarding money and experience but some rewarding weapon upgrades and sub weapons.

One major mechanic is the towns evolve as you spend money in the towns and as you complete missions.

My biggest gripe is there isn't really a story, you're just an adventurer that wants to explore the world and the main missions just enable you to do that.

There isn't a main antagonist, there's asshole guys, but no main evil you're fighting against. But the game is so fun you kinda never really care.

The reason I want to get it sold isn't to make a fortune, but so no one can take my game and say they made it and sell it themselves.

I want credit for making this game, it's like the one thing I ever accomplished.

Oh, also all the sprites are original, all tilesets as well. Music is original, enemies (for all intents and purposes) are original, all weapons are basically original ( it has swords, but also shields as weapons and other non conventional weapons.)

I made everything from the ground up, I just don't understand programming so it has custom scripts that I copied and pasted from forums. I'm just creative, I'm not very smart.

This sounds too good to be real and I'll need you to post a download so that I can believe you.

Post some sprites

most of the scripts that people made available were open for use
the ones i have used in the past only required credit to be used in paid games
obviously that isn't true for all of them but it's worth looking into man

I kinda want to try and make something good in MV this time, but is there a good way for me to correctly upscale all of the assets I have for VX Ace to work in it?

Else I'll probably just flounder around in VXA forever messing around and achieving nothing.

It's bullshit, he does this in every thread. There is no game, just ignore him.

Just found a bunch of definitions my friend.
This sounds incredible! I have no intention of stealing it; like, I would literally pay you right now to play it! How much would you want for it? Again, just to play it, not to steal it -- I don't have the talents or imagination to program a game like this.

It basically is,
I don't think I'm going to release it without getting the script changed.

I've never talked about this on Sup Forums before so I don't know who you're talking about, this is the first rpg maker thread I've ever seen.

tried it once. Couldn't figure out how to spawn the player in the first place after what seemed like an hour. So I gave up.

>fountain is larger than most houses

Fucking right click

>not taking a stroll in your local wading fountain
Step it up, senpai.

Was going to make a 2D rpg, but it would be like another sand grain on the beach.

I need ideas now for something else.

>Vitamin Quest 2 is still not out

I did
Called it two worlds but then actual game called two worlds came out so i trashed entire project.

1D rpg

Huh. I must have been even more computer illiterate than I thought back then.

But I can use GameMaker now, so I can give up and fail to make games on that instead.

wanted to when i saw RPG Maker 95.
but didnt have a PC, so I had to wait till RPG Maker for the PS1.
(It was garbage of course, both the engine and my game)

Currently working on an MV game, which i kept porting from the prior engine, when things got better, pretty much making me nearly start over each time.
(Though MV has 90% of everything i want, so i see little reason to switch after it)

No, but I highly enjoyed one recently

I'm sorry, maybe one day. I just know if I showed anything it would be stolen and I wouldn't get any credit....

This is the first time I've thought about it in a couple years, I'll really look into getting a professional to help me change the scripts. I'll do it.

I've called it "To the ends of the Earth" since I started it, you might be able to find some of my old posts on some old rpg maker forums.

Speaking of RPGmaker, Luxuria just got translated atfer all these years.

Have fun.

>years ago when rpg maker 2000 was a big thing
>spent months making towns, locations and editing character sprites with a friend
>finally realize we dont even have a concrete story
>just completely stopped what we were doing

im sure everyone went through this.

...

I can make it here

Is this even in RPG Maker?

I've been working on a shitty game for 3-4 years, but this semester's been pretty heavy so it's hard for me to have time to finish it.
streamable.com/mfubm

I'm sorry about your friend user.

>around 10 years ago I made a naruto game
>~1h demo got over 10k downloads in forst monthbecause it was overhyped as fuck on some forums
>Never finished it beause I didn't feel like it

No, it says on the page that it uses Construct 2

while you're not wrong, I would say its just nice to try and use a simple system to get things done faster.
I switched back to RPG Maker to speed things up.
(Plus having to try and draw everything in higher detail was taking forever, and was another reason I gave up on non RPG Maker engines.)

No, but the best RPG Maker game is Tales of a Drunken Paladin.

Top-tier shit there lads.

Could we exchange contact information then, so that when you do get a professional coder I could get my hands on it? I'm desperate, my guy, I would literally be willing to shell out a hundred bucks for a DRM copy.

anything you were proud of or do you think it was all hype and naruto?

tales of a drunk paladin

It was all hype and naruto, the game itself was generic as fuck with even more generic plot that got people to like it (little brother getting snatched or some shit like that).
Also it was back in times when there was no set world map of the universe and I would need to remake entire set of starting zones to fix the setting.

Nah, I'm waiting for a sale so I can make my diaperfag rpg

You can work with lowres pixel art just fine in Unreal, though. Sure, if you want what the RPG Maker has EXACTLY (+maybe stuff that is covered by simple plugins) you can go with that, but if you step even half a foot outside of that, you might as will use Unity, Unreal or anything else.
I've been working with UE4 for two months now and it's a boatload of fun. Mostly because it doesn't feel like the engine hates my guts just because I want rythm elements in my turn based battle system.

I did and it turned out great.
gamejolt.com/games/satlolf/266741

Why would you make this?

Succubus rpgs is the best rpgs

Which one was this?

A game i tried to translate with google translate.
dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ155956.html

>tried
Well keep going.

looks aesthetic

I've always wanted too, but since I can't program or script and I'm an amateur artist, so I doubt I could make anything good. I'll get around to it eventually when I get good at both of those, but at that point I may as well design create my own game from scratch.
Ever since Brawl came out I always thought about making a RPG version of Subspace Emissary that would take place actual Nintendo worlds instead of generic locations.

I'm pretty sure there are free scripts available for different combat systems and such.
