I'm going to buy a controller for PC

I'm going to buy a controller for PC.

What good PC-Only video games can I play with a controller? I have been playing keyboard+mouse my last 17 years.

That's a pretty slim list user - if a game was made solely for PC, it'd likely be made for KB+M and not a controller in mind. It'd be like asking for a Wii-only game that didn't utilize motion controls at all. I'm sure they exist, but it's going to be tough to find.

You didn't buy a 360 pad in the year of our lord 2017 did you?

Get the newest version of Xbone controller. It does support bluetooth so so you don't need additonal dongle. It's great.

It's cheaper than the xbox one and universally a good controller depite it's age, what's wrong with it?

>God tier:
Steam Controller

>But I need a dpad for 2d platformers and only want to buy one controller tier:
WiiU Pro and the mayflash adapter

>But I need a dpad for 2D platformers but am ok with buying multiple controllers tier:
Either a WiiU pro with the mayflash adapter or a Pokken Controller (Cheapest way to get a top tier HORI fighting dpad)

The Switch Pro, Xbone normal or elite, and the Dualshock 4 are all pretty shitty and only propped up by people who use it as a PC pad because they already had them from their consoles.

time to start emulating ps2 and earlier, user

>That dpad
>Those trigger travel times
>Everything else is kinda just kinda mediocre and not of the best quality
The literal only reason the 360 pad EVER got propped up was because it was basically the only option as far as PC pads went in the 7th gen because Nintendo had non controller and DS3 had way shittier compatibility than the current one. So it was basically logitech or Xbox

Pretty much every third person action you ever may have missed out on.

Dark Souls
Devil May Cry 3/4
Any of the Musou games
Emulators
Etc.

Do not get the steam controller. It's absolute trash.

Would have said these but OP said "PC-only" so I figured he wasn't looking for any multiplats/ports

>WiiU pro with the mayflash adapter

Is this a good option? It looks like a 25$+20$ option more or less. The problem is more wires everywhere tho.

t. brainlet

If you already have the controller the adapter is $14 on Amazon. Reviews said it works pretty well.

Hollow Knight
Any character action game (MGR, Bayonetta, DMC4)
Rez

>WiiU Pro and the mayflash adapter
Is it recognized as Direct Input or Xinput by PC?

It's really good.
You literally just install the drivers off the disc it comes with (They have them online if you dont have a disc drive) plug the bastard in (It's a dongle so I just put it on one of the USB plugs on the back of my PC and leave it sorta out of the way) hit sync on both and bam its gonna work in every game forever from now on.
You can flip a switch to go from Xinput (recognized as a 360 pad without fail every time) or dinput (The WiiU's normal state, you can connect 4 WiiU pro controllers to your dongle when it's in Dinput mode, great for emulators)

I had a brief issue when I first got the dongle thing with it not recognizing half of the WiiU Pro, but it turned out it was because of Steams controller configuration settings in big picture and having both xbox and generic gamepad configuration on was causing the issue. I was also the literal only person I found online who had the issue though so I'm probably just retarded.

You can flip a switch to go between both actually,. Xinput is flawless.

Usually the xone and x360 are the standard controllers where at least most of the games are compatible. Usually it's just plug n play. For games it's common that all console ports and most indies have full/partial compatibility. If you need to check a game for gamepad compatibility, you can check on Steam on the store page.

PC only games are meant to be played with kb+m, controllers are for ports

Why would a PC-only game not support m+kb? I guess the only things would be flight sims or racing games, but those would work better with a stick/wheel anyway.

There are tonnes, but most of them are local multiplayer games. So you'll need friends and a few more controllers. They're the most fun we have though.

I actually might have an answer to your game question OP.
Yo! Noid 2 is a 3D platformer so it's best played with a controller. But it's freeware so it's only on PC.

It's also far and away the best 3D platformer to come out this year so far.

360 controllers have the worst deadzones I've ever witnessed before. The dpad also sucks ass so forget playing fighters or platformers with it.
Trust me, I have 6 of them. pic related, it's my favorite design

Not sure if these are PC only, but:

1001 Spikes
They Bleed Pixels
TowerFall Ascension
Wand Wars
Rocket Riot
Khimera: Destroy All Monster Girls
Super House of Dead Ninjas
Volgarr the Viking
Westerado: Double Barreled
Mark of the Ninja
Deadlight
Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe
OlliOlli
Verdict Guilty - 유죄 평결
Skyhook
SpeedRunners
Nidhogg
Lethal League
Traverser
Bleed
Assault Android Cactus
Double Dragon Neon
Divekick
Stardust Vanguards
River City Ransom: Underground
Move or Die
Samurai Gunn
Ultimate Chicken Horse
Birdsketball
Tricky Towers
Bloody Trapland
Gurgamoth
Dustforce
Out There Somewhere
Mega Coin Squad
Mount Your Friends
Frog Climbers

however most of those games are local multiplayer

You say that as if it's a bad thing. I've been looking for more local multiplayer titles. They just don't make them much anymore.

Cuphead might be fun and that comes out in 5 days or so.

There's a ton of them on PC for whatever insane reason

didn't 360 controllers get a new D-pad later?

A majority are indie titles though.

If you are willing to put in a few hours of gaming with this to get use to it, it will reward you with it's customization ability. And you'll find that you can use it to play any PC game with unlimited configurations.

also a nice substitute for a kb and mouse if you have a computer connected to the tv

I tried using it but i always felt limited by its right pad, hard to play accurately with that.

You gotta adjust the rotation setting

>You say that as if it's a bad thing.
well they're personally the only games i still find fun these days but OP seemed to be looking for singleplayer games

>They just don't make them much anymore.
There's actually A LOT and most of them are good.

That doesn't make them bad. AAA titles don't even include local multiplayer anymore. It's sad. the reason most of you guysare burned out on games are because you're missing the social aspect of playing with your friends from when you were younger. This is because there aren't many local multiplayer games people are aware of anymore.

It's kind of quite the opposite. People that say they're burned out on games usually have online only games they play. Right now I have tons of games (5 TBs of games, movies and TV) but I only play 2 games. Rocket league and battlefield 1. Before that I played league for years until I quit back in 2016 or 15.
For me, most games are too fucking mediocre to keep be hooked. The past few years were shitty with only a few gems worth playing. This year really turned things around but I'm more excited for next year.
I get a lot of indie titles because there's not much games to play locally on pc. Most of the time when people come over I emulate games.

Local multiplayer =/= online multiplayer

I have a wireless xbox 360 controller, is it worth getting that wireless adapter for pc or just get a wired 360 controller

When did I ever imply they were the same?

It's worth getting not a fucking 360 controller period. Get some standards.

Xbox one is the best ergonomics and most hassle-free controller, most games already come pre-configured to work with it.

With dualshocks you have to use literal malware to make it work with Windows and even then you will run into a ton of issues when trying to play games (inverted analogs, inverted buttons), be prepared to spend at least 10 minutes per game configuring it and making work-arounds, Xpadder will be your best friend.

>Year of our lord 2017
>Having trouble with controller compatability
The Xbox controller's one selling point is no more my nigga

It is an immutable fact that in the current year of our lord Dualshock 3 and 4 simply do not work well with Windows 7 and 8.

Sure it may work well on some games, but 70% of the time you will run it some kind of problem.

- analogs will be inverted
- square will behave as triangle, R3 L3 wont work
- bad deadzones
- no R2 L2 sensitivity

And dualshocks dpads are just bad compared to the xbox one.

Got an xbox 360 controller since 2012 and it still works wonders and is pretty comfy. The xbox one controller is not as comfortable in the hands plus the one I tried from a cousin was a week old and it already had defective bumpers.

you should kill yourself and your controller abusing cousin

>Still caring about seventh gen controllers at all
Nigga.

The DS4 has none of those issues. Steam has controller compatibility shit that can get pretty much anything detected effortlessly. The days of giving a fuck about compatibility are long gone.

This shit right here. Had this 360 controller for 4 years, had no problems with it. There's probably a faggot that tries to justify purchasing a steam controller

360 or DS4

I'm still using a PS3 controller. It works well enough. Just have to install SCPToolkit. PS4 and Xbone are both natively supported now though IIRC.

I don't think one week of regular use would fuck up a controller, they're just broken.

The 360 controller is rather sturdy. My cousin still has his 360 controller from 2008 and it works without a hitch. It's just about taking care of your things.

I remember trying to use ps3 controllers with ds3motionjoy which caused a fair share of bluescreens so I uninstalled and bought the 360 controller. I love both controllers tho, might try that SCP thing

I'm not convinced, I will have to get one to confirm this.

>Somebody props up the xbox controller in a controller thread on Sup Forums
>Almost without fail they say something retarded in the exact same post

Does anyone like the ps4 and xbox one controllers? I find them uncomfortable compared to their predecesors as much as I give them a try.

What is it about them? Are they smaller than before? Or are their grips so big they make it so you have a harder time reaching the buttons?

The only thing I know for certain is that my pinky finger is just floating there with both controllers

I have baby Drumpf hands, I prefer the new ones.

Might be it. I got big hands and loved the Duke controller as well.

The only people who prop up the big 3's controllers as anything more than a handy catch all are stupid. They dont excel in anyting.

Wake me when they finally over a standalone driver
I just sold mine on eBay today unopened

*blocks your path*

Big 3 as in the console controllers? How so?

>xbox buttons
>ps3 stick layout
>unnecesarily big grips
>probably has digital triggers

Meh, I've seen alot worse atleast it's not the wii u pro controller

Switch pro is a massive step down from the WiiU pro. Just like in every imaginable way.
Xbone elite is pretty alright but you can do so much better with significantly less money. Xbone standard is pretty unremarkable with a slightly better dpad than the 360 and overall worse ergonomics. Not to mention it has no advancements like Gyro aiming or something like the other two can boast, and if you want back buttons you need to pay 150 for 4. When the Steam Controller has 2 plus a shitload of other functionality for a third of the price full price, but regularly goes on sale for 35.
DS4 is the best catch all controller out of the 3 of them as far as PC gamepads go because it has gyro and Steam can use the trackpads on the DS4 like steam controller trackpads. But it still has mushy inputs on the dpad and buttons, weird triggers, terrible sticks.
The big 3's current controllers are just wholly unremarkable.
Get a Steam Controller for 3D games. Get a WiiU Pro controller or Pokken Controller (Hori fighting pad if you want to shell out for a few more buttons) for 2D games. Get a gamecube controller and adapter if you plan to emulate GC games because they literally feel wrong on anything else.

Realistically you can't just get one controller that does everything well.

I liked the steam controller, specially that feedback when clicking a button or moving the right "stick"

but I don't get how people liked the wii u pro controller. The right stick is in the wrong place, every other controller, even the cube and switch controllers, got it right. And everything else about the wii u pro controller is about the same, though it feels too flat for my taste. Only thing I loved about the wii u pro controller is the insane battery life.

The switch pro controller, if you ignore the lack of analog triggers, is amazing. It fit like a glove in both my sister's tiny hands and my big hands, the abxy buttons are close enough to choose to use them simultaneously with a single finger. It feels like the 360 controller which is pretty comfy.
