What do you think has had the largest negative impact on gaming throughout the years? For me it's the LCD TV. They just have so many flaws compared to CRT's, I can't believe we phased them out for an inferior technology just because of
>muh weight
>muh power consumption
What do you think has had the largest negative impact on gaming throughout the years? For me it's the LCD TV...
dont why but when ever i play something on theses tvs there is always a wierd delay
yeah, that's why
Because CRTs look like shit.
Call me a plebe; you know it to be true.
i only use 144hz OLED monitors. far better than CRT
fag
I actually like living in the future where you don't have to deal with heavy ass TVs that need degaussing
A OLED PVM is the elder god tier way to play video games.
I hate the input delay that almost every one of these things has.
doesn't even exists, nice try
>i sure do love lugging around a monitor that's as big as the desktop itself
>no motion blur
>less ghosting
>no input lag
B-but it's too heavy!
>turn off motion blur in game
>wow no more motion blur
>not using a monitor instead of some shitty tv
CRTs were trash
LCD's and OLED's have natural motion blur due to the sample and hold effect. To eliminate motion blur you need to strobe the light, like CRT's, projectors, and certain gaming monitors. Also extremely high refresh rate screens have lower motion blur, but it doesn't eliminate it entirely.
yeah thats why you turn it off in games duh
>have old 32 inch 720p Sony Bravia LCD TV for years
>games look fine, no issues
>upgrade to a 43 inch 4K/HDR LG LED Smart TV
>everything is darker, colors are more deep
>change settings constantly, can't get it to look like the LCD
Yeah and it's only noticible if you're looking hard or have autism.
Get with the time Gramps CRTs are dead, and any HD ones are a fucking meme.
A 50inch CRT is enormous and I don't wanna sit 3feet from my TV to play vidya
As nostalgic as I am about the 22 inch crt I used for years before it kicked the bucket and I finally got an lcd, they're heavy as shit, bulky as shit, and while there are some more specialized models that are widescreen, they are for the most part 4/3 ratio.
Of course I'm talking about computer monitors here, but televisions are mostly in the same boat.
Also, I'm glad they finally standardized televisions and pc monitors to be so similar.
HDMI standardization on both means I can plug a game console into our big screen tv or straight into my pc monitor, something that used to be a hassle and required extra components.
BenQ ZOWIE XL2411

Acer Predator XG270HU
Acer Predator XB271HU 165hz
Acer Predator XF270HU
ASUS MG279Q
Acer Predator Z35 200hz
120hz OLED does though, so pretty close
OLED, you daft nigger
None of those are OLED you fucking retard. There's only a couple out by Dell and they're too expensive for gaming. Oh and that Alienware laptop
I don't miss CRTs. Tiny ass screens, buzzing noises, they fuck up and stop stretching to the edges properly when they get older. LCDs have their problems too, but still not as bad.
Let's face it, the problem with modern screens isn't input delay. That factor is irrelevant unless you play Fighting Games or do exploit speed runs, or something that actually requires frame perfection.
The worst thing are the black contrasts. Darker areas just don't look at good.
OLED fixes that, too bad that it’s not yet available for PC screens. However OLED TVs are rapidly reaching the point where they are price competitive with high end LCD sets, and aren’t they just glorious.
I want a 4k TV for black friday.
Assuming I want a pretty decent quality one, what should I expect to pay? Is black friday actually good for tvs, or is it just "let's just say it's a door buster and idiots won't notice"
TVs can't really increase resolution too much without going past the limits of human vision, right? I should be pretty future proofed if I get a HDR 4k tv?
It just looks different to you because the screen is different you jackass.
You spent years growing accustomed to a piece of shit display, the problem is you.
You have a poor memory, the first replacements for CRTs were not LCD but plasmas.
And that was fine after they came up with pixel shifting to prevent burn-in.
Some modern tv's have some pretty shit delay. I mean if you're a mouth breather that only plays QTE based games, you may not notice.
Whatever games run in 4k are few and suffer from limitations from it. I'd say they perform better at 1080p mode. Look at PS4Pro and XB1X 4k games to see which ones are "4k". It's only really worth it if you watch movies in 4k.
There's no chance 4k will be left behind, though. Making the jump from FullHD to 4K is being slow enough, there's no way we'll jump straight to 8K.
OLED is a meme for anything that stays on for a long-ass time, same with plasma, the burn in is insane
A friend of mine was an early adopter for plasma. He got this weird dark streak through the top third of his screen and none of us knew what caused it. Those things were a joke.
So is it worth getting a PS4 pro if i have a 1080p tv?
>my friend got a defective first gen product, they're all shit
damm son i sure hope you're merely pretending
>a couple out by Dell
Only one, and it's discontinued. It was clearly an experiment they tried that wasn't ready for primetime.
>LCDFags are retarded
Wow, what a surprise
>What do you think has had the largest negative impact on gaming throughout the years?
Smartphones. They have ruined gaming just as they ruined almost everything else.
>looking for a new tv
>literally every fucking tv is a smart TV
FUCKING REEEEEEEEE, I DONT WANT TO HAVEA BOTNET BRAND TELEVISION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From my understanding, the PS4Pro has an option that enables the Pro features, and you can turn it on and off. If it's on and the game is not compatible, it can perform worse than if the acceleration was off.
When it's on with a game that supports it, it improves performance and/or increases resolution, depending on the game. You'd have to check what exactly the Pro option enabled does to the games you have.
>being a weak non-lifter
You brought this upon yourself.
>complains about motion blur
>game has option to turn off motion blur
>hurr durr ur retart
truly
>CRTFags are retarded
i sure do love scanlines a hot tv full of radiation heavy takes up a huge amount of space shaped weird
hard to argue with that. console controllers are high on the list for me, or rather the refusal from MS/sony/nintendo to allow keyboard and mouse support for games on them.
Controllers kill game complexity and accurately as they offer the player none.
>Buy big TV
>Has input lag
>Move to different places because each one had so many fucking problems
>Always have a small bedroom that's kinda awkward to use
I instead got a monitor and it was way comfier then any fucking TV
just buy a good and expensive one
>Muh mlg pro gamur that thinks he notices milliseconds of input lag.
Check your TV for a gaming mode or any motion effects that you can turn off. That thing that makes everything you watch look like 60fps? Whatever that is needs to be deactivated so your vidya doesn't have input delay.
I have a philips and it's called "digital natural motion".
You're actually right, it's why LEDs are replacing them at a massive rate.
>tfw 4k 48" monitor
My work installed two plasma screens as part of their video conferencing suite, which displays a static image on both screens when not in use.
Oddly enough, they were the ONLY plasma screens of the 20 odd displays that were installed and couldn't have been a worse choice for their application.
The UI was burned in within a year.
>Proving my point
LOOOOOL
>Being so desperate that you have to lie
>Doesn't have room for a CRT and its too heavy for him
t. Scrawnyfag
>proving my point
i dont think you understand that you can simply turn off motion blur in most games
Online multiplayer.
The fuck has to do with anything? My point was TVs are unnecessary if you move around yearly and a monitor can achieve everything I need without spending three times of the price on a TV
CRT also had flicker. A lot of flicker. Eye strain came so much quickly with CRTs.
Also geometric distortion due to the curvature of the screen - but I think most people don’t care given there are people buying curved LCDs ... What the heck is wrong with these people? Why would you intentionally introduce image distortion?
Get a projector man. I got a Acer H6510bd it's cheaper then your average 1080hd TV and has no input lag like the CRT tv
I have not seen so much nostalgiafaggotry and stupidity in one post for a while.
Tested my 144Hz gaming monitor vs. a CRT at 60Hz, recorded on a 120Hz slow motion camera on my phone. Sorry for the horrible flicker. Going frame by frame the LCD seems to be about 3 (1.5) frames behind, so 16-24ms of lag. Not great, but of course Duke Nuken doesn't refresh animations at 60fps so it could be inaccurate. I'll have to test with a modern shooter some time.
Twitch/Esports/Streaming. Every game needs to cater to those faggots now.
That monitor looks like an Acer Predator. It's response time is something like 4ms.
why would you waste all that space having a piece of junk inside your room when you can have a nice hd lcd that allows for more space
Response time is how long it takes the pixels to transition from one color to another, usually measured in gray to gray. It's different than input lag, but yeah, mine has 4ms. A bad response time leads to ghosting, but I have Overdrive on as well so ghosting it's not noticeable when playing games.
crts will always have flicker in recorded footage, theres no way around it
if theres flicker while you're playing it means your CRTtv is failing.
you could, I dunno... just not connect it to the internet?
why, my peanus weenus of course
hahah!
it's my weeeeeenus peanus! hahah
ITT: What do I think has had the largest negative impact on gaming throughout the years? - my answer, of course, my peanus weenus
If it weren't for heavy ass CRT tv's i would've probably ended up skinnyfat instead of stronk dadbod.
Thanks for that correction.
you're still playing extra for a bunch of shit that you're never going to use
Just buy one of those huge 40' 4k monitors and use that as a TV. Monitors have HDMI so you can plug in whatever.
that's true, too bad that the input lap is atrocious on most tvs
we need more educated posts with evidence like yours on this board/site. mind if i ask a stupid question? what kind of impact does the connection have on response time, if any? i imagine its dvi on the 144hz monitor and vga on the crt. would vga always win over dvi, even if they are both lcds?
gtfo this is a monitor thread
I don't have a VGA port on my GPU so I have to use a DVI to VGA converter, it's DVI-I which can carry an analog signal so it's ok. Converting digital (DVI-D/HDMI/DisplayPort) to VGA requires an active connection so you have to power it with USB. For my 144Hz monitor I'm using DisplayPort. Dual link DVI can hit 1440p/120Hz, but you can unlock the pixel clock and overclock to 144Hz if you're lucky.
Analog to analog will always win, although digital connections nowadays aren't bad. Converting analog to digital will always have some lag, but if you shell out the cash you can minimize it. Look at the framemeister, it converts analog signals from consoles to HDMI with very minimal lag.
Hmmm, after reading some reviews my monitor and others using the same panel probably get much less lag, I'm guessing Duke was a poor game to test since the animations are framelocked. I'll have to record CS:GO sometime.
>tfw LCD and big flat screen crt
You can't stop me.
also
>muh cost of production, maintenance, shipping, popular demand, availability of parts, established knowledge base of salespeople, repairmen, etc.
CRTs are obsolete because their few small benefits are far outweighed by their drawbacks
>friend randomly gets new set
>looks nice
>bring my shit over there every weekend or so for fightan vidya
>feel fucking disoriented due to the delay and have to adjust every time
do your research. they make shitty models specically for black frday and shit, then don't even have support for them.
I remember the having to constantly calibrate Guitar Hero and Rock Band all the time. Default settings at parties and gatherings were almost always awful.
