As for the second part being free doesn't really make a difference e.g. paladins vs overwatch, and having a head start won't matter since everyone wants/is familiar with pubg.

the battle royale gamemode is like a seperate game. completely free, you don't need the base 'fortnite' game to play it.

You start with an advantage if you get the jump on them obviously. I'm assuming that being able to craft shields and pots etc encourages people to continue gathering resources past the beginning stages instead of sitting in a bush with a gun the whole game.

The game is very popular among poorfags and china. Fortnite's BR being free will be the same, popular among the poorfags. Being the first free is a very big deal. It also helps that it actually runs nicely. The downside is fortnite's art style is vastly different from PUBG.

I like how random this post is. Fortnite is a western game with western graphics and so is pubg. Just one is cartoony and the other is realistic.

Even that's not true. I don't keep track of the dankest of memer streamers, but even I know that The Culling was super popular for at least a month and H1Z1 is presumably somewhat mainstream because I saw a fucking tournament for it on TV a few months ago.

fortnite also benefits from being streamlined for consoles. Navigating the inventory in pubg on a console is going to be a fucking mess. Fortnite won't be able to compete on pc but on console they will have a massive advantage

That's the thing though they're not competing. I don't think anyone in the studio said that it's meant to compete with it. I imagine they always planned on making some sort of PvP mode and timing came perfectly. No more than half a dozen people whipped it up within 2 months. It's an alternative to the genre in which they get to advertise Fortnite alongside such a small investment.

pubg is a special case. it's currently the most popular pc game and all of a sudden the engine licensers create a f2p version of it and, last i heard, have avoided contact with bluehole.
