It's okay. The first three areas are a slog because they really want you to use the counter mechanic and they try to force it by making many of the enemies very aggressive, do high damage, and have high health unless you counter them.
It's okay.
No.
It's fun but the controls suck ass and you can't change them.
Buy it if you're a Metroid fan, try it first if you're not.
Yes. Just beat it tonight. Not a holy shit genre defining classic like Super Metroid, but definitely good. Like the other user said, leans a little heavily on counters, but I like the counter system.
Graphics and music are wonderful. They straight up reused the lava world theme from Metroid Prime and it sounds fucking great. Play with headphones and 3D.
I found most of the background music underwhelming compared to the Magmoor Caverns theme and the Red Brinstar theme they put in. For some reason it seems the music is a lower relative volume compared to other Metroid games?
I haven't beaten the game yet, still in Area 5 I think. I don't mind the slower paced, encounter/puzzle focused gameplay as opposed to say, Zero Mission which was pretty fast comparatively.
It's a solid game.
Yeah it's worth a buy.
It's not perfect, the counter system is kind of broken, and some puzzles are downright stupid (crystals and crystal hallways in general)
But if you liked the handheld GBA metroids to any degree you'll like this too. Even throws tie ins to Metroid Fusion, and unrevealed lore secrets await if you 100%
Does shit taste good? Then yes!
It's very good, i'd say get it.
Still, fuck them for the amiibo situation.
>buy
>3ds
Do we really need to go over this again, user?
Why do you fuckers do this every thread? Yes, people buy 3DS games still, pirate if you want but being loud about it is fucking obnoxious.
I'd say the music is as a result of Metroid 2's less than stellar sound track. Metroid 2 had 3 main exploration themes I think, the one that plays in the starting area, the one that sounds kind of foreboding in the more ruins like areas and then that stupid song that is just kind of beeps and boops. I would say of those 3, I only liked the starting song which only played in one area in Metroid SR.
Post yfw when the post credit scene
I'm only in the third area, but its good so far. Only issues I have are with the things I least expected. Turning the Metroid battles into full on boss battles breaks the flow the original game has. And the open feeling of the original game has been replaced with Metroid Fusion style hallways. But when it comes to the stuff I worried about like the counter and aeion mechanics, those turned out okay. Movement is precise and the 3D engine doesn't hurt the game.
its not gonna blow your mind but its absolutely worth playing. like other user said, the backgrounds and the 3d effect are done really well and some of the weird ass music from the original game is redone pretty nicely.
the counter is definitely a bit forced, but once you get the ice beam and have a couple more options it makes normal enemy encounters fun.
I don't know what to say about the controls. for me, it honestly felt like samus was moving to my thoughts and not my hands, like I never once had a remotely frustrating moment. the lack of customization can suck though, so I guess its a risk.
buy gam. everyone who hates it is just a salty boy over AM2R
Decent. Not worth $40 though. It's like a 7.5 at best.
I have to agree here. The Lower Norfair/Magmoor remix in SR is stellar, but the only other theme that stuck out to me all game was the Surface theme, and you only hear that very briefly near the beginning.
>nobody thought this track was stellar
come the fuck on Sup Forums, i thought you were better than this

As a Metroid 2 remake it's fantastic. As a Metroid game in general it's great, too.
Samus feels so satisfying to control in this.
Yes it is, especially if you like the series and want to support it.
That lava theme was in super metroid first. It's not like they even lifted the prime version either since it's a new arrangement.
>before game comes out
>metroid threads hit bump limit with endless arguments and people wanting to support Metroid
>after game comes out
>"didn't buy it, don't care"
Typical Sup Forums.
There were shit tons of 500 limit threads hit last weekend. One of which was people posting pictures of the copy of the game that they bought.
at this point it's very possible it's just a buyfag falseflagging to make pirates look bad
Worth a pirate
What is it?
>literally multiple daily threads going over bump limit every day since release with an obvious improvement in discussion and outlook
i've been here a long time and i don't ever remember anything like this. i mean those pre release threads were some of vilest most negative non constructive discussion this site has ever held
I mean, why can't people support original titles like Prime 4? Rather than a remake of a game that already got an arguably superior remake in the form of AM2R.
I just started playing it today and so far it's average. I'd probably like it a whole lot more if they didn't shoehorn some gimmicky counter mechanic in the game and then make literally every other enemy in the game have a charge so you're forced to use it/
Maybe because people want more 2D Metroid?
Maybe because people want Metroid 5, mother fucker.
Yeah, why the fuck would they add mechanics to make you play the game.
Like the speed booster, like why do I HAVE to run fast in some parts.
Use the ice beam and misses as soon as you can
>people want more
>remake
I think you've got yourself confused. People want more original titles. Rather than another remake. I don't see how buying a remake is somehow going to make that happen. And neither does a lot of Sup Forums, as per your post.
Are you implying that we should go back to the clunky-ass shit that is the original Metroid II?
Considering I just brought up AM2R being the superior remake of Return of Samus, I don't know user, what do you think?
And you're worth nothing, subhuman scum.
You realize this was in development when AM2R came out, right?
Absolutely. It's pretty apparent too when you look at how quick Nintendo was to issue their DMCA.
As to why you brought it up or why it matters to this conversation, you'll need to do some elaboration.
Why can't people support both? I'll buy any new Metroid game.
You're just proving why prime fags are part of the problem.
Metroid II is still my favorite Metroid game. So I happily will buy a remake for it. Just like I'd buy a remake for Zelda 2 if Nintendo would ever make one.
Beyond that, remaking Metroid II is a good idea to develop hype for the series then lead into a new game.
Yes, it is worth it. Especially if you haven't played the original metroid 2. Good soundtrack too.
You realize that if you don't buy it, Metroid games don't get made, right? Like that's the reason they weren't making them in the first place. Not enough sales, too niche.
Piracy is akin to suicide.

>Prime 4 fags
You're reading way to much into it. I only referenced Prime 4 because it's an original title that's actually coming out. Metroid 5 would be cool but there's no evidence it's happening.
Depends. Pirate it to see if you like it. Don't buy something when you can get it for free. The game's a decent 7.
Pirates do need to realize that sales = more games. But when it came to Metroid, that's not the reason they stopped making more. 2D Metroid games always broke over a million in sales, which is way beyond the budget of the game. In comparison, your typical Metrovania Castlevania would sell under 500,000 copies with a comparable budget.
Nintendo had plenty of incentive to make more Metroid. They stopped because of a myriad of reasons. People like Matoko Kato and Sakamoto were working on other projects a lot of the time. Internal politics in Nintendo prioritized other games over Metroid (same as F-Zero). Fusion and Other M got a lot of hate from the fanbase. Etc.
Having the counter was fine. Inflating the HP of normal enemies to make people use it isn't fine. It just slows shit down for the first few areas. The ice beam sort of helps, but it gets annoying to freeze and missile/smash everything too and there are enemies with shells that are not as easy to freeze.
There's still no reason to ignore a remake. Except your stupid idea that only new games matter.
2d/10
Yoshio Sakamoto: "We've just made a full-fledged remake so I'd rather take on something new. That's my general approach, and this was a new challenge."
A high ROI isn't necessarily going to ensure they continue. Games like F-Zero and Metroid had decent profit, sure, but why spend resources making a Metroid that will sell 1 million when you can spend the same amount of resources on a Mario or Zelda that will sell 10 million.
At least when people buy the game, they show there is still a dedicated interest, and that means something (see the Soulsborne series).
Too bad that only makes sense in an ideal world. Seeing as it took a decade for a best-selling Prime series to get a 4th game.
Sure it does. Provided the remake in question is inferior to a free product. Obviously we don't see eye to eye on Samus Returns though.
Interesting. I guess we'll see what happens next then.
What was the point of charge beam doors?
To make sure you had the charge beam before progressing
Only one door would be required for that, but you see them even in the last area.
They also serve for world building, showing that what was once a thriving Chozo infrastructure is now falling apart in places with out of order doors and the such.
It's ugly, the analog controls are ass, and it completely misses the point of the original game. Then again, I'm one of those weird contrarian elitists who actually preferred the original RoS to AM2R, so you may want to take my opinion with a grain of salt.
>but why spend resources making a Metroid that will sell 1 million when you can spend the same amount of resources on a Mario or Zelda that will sell 10 million.
Nintendo supports other series that sell less than Metroid like Fire Emblem. And Fire Emblem has FAR more games. The truth is that Nintendo isn't spending resources 'making' Metroid. They farm it out to a developer. All they're spending is capital. Which they make back. And in greater amount than other series.
Why does the charge beam even power the door when it's the wave beam that electrical?
The wave beam has only been electrical in the Prime games
because it hits the door really hard
