How do we repair this franchise? I don't want to see it die.
How do we repair this franchise? I don't want to see it die

go back in time and make it so that FFX was never made so that at least it can die with some dignity instead
FFX and onward were all garbage
It was never good.
But FFXII is literally the best game in the series by miles and X is a distant 2nd
Make it more fantastical, really. Also, make the games capture the feeling of adventure rather than just what they did for the XIII games. Can't really comment on XV since I haven't played it, but it didn't seem that appealing to me, a fan of most of the other games in the series. Maybe what they should do is take notes from Dragon Quest and try to go back to their roots or at least back to FFV and build from there. Some consistency between games might also be nice.
XI was good though, and XII would have been good if Wada hadn't meddled in its development.
why not?
FF was nothing special outside the music and uematsu left years ago
You can find everything FF used to offer in many other franchises
FF is just use dby SE to push their GRAPHICS engines now they dont care about actually making a good game
I think revisiting its fantasy themes would be nice. I really appreciated 9 when it came out after 7 and 8 were so tech heavy.
>furry
>has bad taste
huh...
I'm still surprised that WoFF was as good as it was, considering that the mainline series has been in the gutter for well over a decade now.
>poorly directed, poorly paced, star wars ripoff with repetitive MMO style combat, some of the worst most underdeveloped characters in anything ever, bland environments and an insignificant main character that was literally a last minute addition to the game
>best game in the series
FF12 fags are fucking retarded
By staying far FAR away from uncreative garbage like XV.
FF12 is a shining example of blatant vidya hipsterism.
Yeah, Uematsu leaving really did kind of kill most of my interest in the series. The rest of the soundtracks are really forgettable outside of XI because they just aren't very consistent. I don't think that applied to FFXII, actually, but I also can't really remember any tracks from it, but that's probably just because I don't care for that style of music. It's a real shame that I couldn't dig the newer games' soundtracks even though Yoko Shimomura worked on them. Not sure what happened, but I want to believe it wasn't her fault since I know she can still make great music like she has in a bunch of other games. Even if they got someone else to take over for the series, I'd be afraid that they wouldn't be able to form their own style and really have fun with it, which is probably why Uematsu's soundtracks were so good.
Imagine if the bravely team had a fraction of budget so that octopus traveler didnt look like shit
The amazing games we could be getting
But no gotta put all the money on FF15 branded cologne
FFXII haters are the worst kind of dismissive mouth breathers. These are actually the people that ruined the series, their retarded opinions led SE to focus more on the ADHD anime style
>game constantly forces your characters to stop moving so they can pull out or put away their weapons
The equivalent of early FFs that had characters attack an empty space if someone killed it earlier on that turn. At least the early FFs had the excuse of not knowing better
Literal shit tier opinion
copy sega
make Final Fantasy the ARPG
and make Final Fantasy Classic
that way everyone is satisfied
Jesus if that's your complaint you might want to learn how to play the game first
Seems they already did that with its spinoffs and other games like Bravely Default.
Literally all the have to do is make a FANTASY based game with a job system. But what they do instead is make shitty sci-fi games with swords and chocobos. And their games are so fucking pretentious now too. I can't speak for FF15, because I have no interest in this series anymore and didn't play it, but FF13 was the most pretentious POS I've ever experienced. It felt like everyone in that game knew they were in a FF game and thought FF was the coolest shit ever. It was so bad, yet you could feel how great it thought it was. Fuck that was annoying playing through that shit.
Make another Crystal Chronicles
>mechanical issue with the game means I don't know how to play
I mean I enjoyed FF12 but it definitely isn't the best. I'd probably put it in my top 5 though if I'm sticking to main line
Should I play active or wait user?
start playing FF14
When it goes f2p maybe
This. We need a game that gets back to the basic foundation the series was built on. Bring back atb but make it look flashy and modern while still being in control of all party members.
>2010
>It's a great game just not a great FF game
>2017
>It was the worst cancer ever and killed the series and created ISIS
Fucking mouth breathers
...
I played it up to Titan Extreme or whatever and it was garbage.
>Game has more shit games then actual good games
>Managa to stay alive because each generation of kids has there 1 favorite
Who else here /NotaFinalFaggot/
...
sounds like someone got knocked off one too many times
The series was ruined long before FF12, user. It started with the Enix merger and the milking of FF7.
Bring back ATB and don't be afraid to have characters line up to battle like traditional games. They can also go the FFXII route since that is what I assumed they might have done in further games and I loved XII.
I think they just have to not be afraid of actually making a traditional FF game the way they used to be. Whether it is medieval or cyberpunk I think it can work even in 2017 with ATB lineups. They are just afraid such a game would not only be panned but ignored due to nugamers wanting more action based systems.
Pokemon has remained turn based and still sells well. Final Fantasy was always popular. It would still sell today like that.
Nigga there are more good Final Fantasy games than bad.
Active. My favourite thing about the game is setting up gambits that react to anything that happens, and then destroys the monsters when you walk into them
Some very selective memories you got there. People were calling FF13 trash from the very start because that's what it is. If anything people have gotten less harsh on it now because the anger fades with time, and as hard as it is to believe, XV is actually an even worse steaming pile of shit than XIII was, which makes XIII look somewhat less bad.
No i played a paladin and i was always grouped with 2 tanks which meant dps couldn't keep up. The game was shitty fanservice anyway
>paladin grouped with 2 tanks
yeah that doesn't happen, nice job outing yourself
like this guy says:
the game was shit, and people here regarded it as shit when it came out.
Name 3
I agree XV is shit but XIII wasn't bad and the general consensus was that it was great until history as rewritten. Same thing with FFVIII after the spoony video
I hated 12 because it wasn't turned based, that simple
III
IV
V
thats not gonna happen.
NEVER EVER memes aside, it seems to be doing very well.
I played years ago. They probably fixed it but it was impossible to pug titan
mainline ff5 ff8 ff10
It's f2p to level 30, your experience won't change that much past it. Give it a shot
X is trash.
The real problem isn't "repairing the franchise", it's finding it's natural evolution. The more something sticks to formula, the more it mutates into something grotesque. FF X and onward became worse and worse versions of any FF, hell even FF 8 I would consider better than the shlock that is FF X-XV. FF was evolving for the longest time, reaching it's peak around the FF 7-9 era. But they gave up on innovation and the only thing left is lifeless cash grabs. FF needs to change, permanently, or it will continue to be shit. Squeenix is too scared to let FF change from it's formula, which is why the psuedo-ARPG combat has been shit since 13.
Neither were any except X. XII uses an automated atb system where you can move around.
You're the one rewriting history here bud. It was hated for being a corridor simulator.
But you also had people saying the game real picks up about 20 hours in when you get to Pulse. To which any sane person would respond saying you're a faggot if you expect me to play twenty hours of shit to get to the good part.
Even IGN was shitting on it
I remember the previews back when I still listened to reviewers, they didnt want to call it shit but you could tell they hated it
>the general consensus was that it was great until history as rewritten
>FFXIII
>great
>GREAT
What the fuck am I reading. I bought it on release and I unleashed my anger in the purest most hideous form of shitposting you could imagine along with tons of other people on Sup Forums. The game was ALWAYS considered a pile of shit. Just because there's some ridiculous FF fans out there that will suck any FF game's dick does not mean there wasn't an even larger group of people who hated it. You either weren't here for that or you secluded yourself to a group of people that liked it and now you have some horribly skewed view of how it was received.
You could say that back in the 90s or early 2000s, but I don't know that that is true now.
Bring Sakaguchi back, and give him the authority to twist the ear of anyone working at Square Enix who steps out of line.
>reading ign ever
Oh i get it you're a forget redditor
It was a video review and this was like 10 years ago
Dude this post was spot on for ff15. One thing I really hated was how you could only explore one region of the world. Really ruins the adventure to it imo
>Even IGN was shitting on it
Like i said...rewriting history
just let it go user, we still have the classics and our memories
i dont even know what the fuck they were thinking with FF15. the entire game is a god
damn mess.
the people behind it needs to be fierd
Only ones that are legit bad are II, XIII and debatably XV.
I enjoyed many aspects of XV so I don't personally consider it complete shit but that appears to be the consensus here.
Make FFXVI a good MMO with action combat. XV was a good step for the series into that step. It looks flashy now make it deep intsead of shallow as shit.
Put it in the world of Tactics and flesh out the economics, political, and social parts of the MMO. Guild drama, huge world, housing that works, great music, and character customization that can't be topped.
>making a third mmo
If you think final fantasy hasn't been changing then you're a dumbass, 15 was so different from 9 and it was much worse
It wasn't even good either. It was just one area that happened to not be a fucking corridor. God what a shit game.
I'd argue that it was still a corridor. It just happens to be a really big corridor.
I remember they wanted to make every game after X an MMO
It's generally a case of accentuate the negative. I'll be there in the XV threads bitching about it since I got it at launch, but it's just insulting towards the costumer with how unfinished it is and really, really fucking boring and mucked up by Tabata. It's not the worst thing ever, and it's technically not even a bad game in terms of design and mechanics - just far from any sort of state that it should be praised for.
But then I can see XIII's gameplay and design for its merits and flaws, and not just the excessive "FINAL HALLWAY XIII" memes, so whatever.
>action combat MMO
loving this meme
Naming the MMOs with numbers from the mainline franchise is legit the reason I stopped buying and collecting FF games.
After 13 and 15 at the very least they can go back to a more 'traditional' type like 12 or 9.
Two games with 'a bunch of humans trying to fulfill their destinies' is enough for now. Not unless 16 actually ends up being based on Agni's Philosophy or something though i doubt it.
I just liked how there were diverse races of people in those games I guess.
And I know I'm forgetting 7 was like 13 and 15 I guess aside from Nanaki / Red XIII
Make a game with FFV job system, FFVI character development, FFVII world immersion, Lightning Returns' gameplay, Fabula Nova Cristallis lore and Heavensward tier story/writing
how the fuck is 12 traditional? 13 is more traditional than 12
The problem with Final Fantasy these days is they're trying way too hard to make each numbered game the greatest game in the history of the universe for every single person in existence and overextend themselves then shit the bed when they realize it.
FFXIII was supposed to be on PS2 and instead they ended up cutting half the game just to get the thing fucking released for PS3. The main story goes on fucking forever despite not a lot actually happening and there's no room for shit all of side content. The sequel games were able to balance things out much better by finishing all the work they'd already done.
FFXV was supposed to be a PS3 game obviously and went on so long they parachuted in another director that made a bunch of awkward design decisions to reposition the game for a wider audience and they ended up chopping the game up again. You look at XV and there's so much fucking work put into that world and the detail of the characters and it's really impressive and then you go jump 5 times trying to interact with an object even though the jump button is completely redundant because Noct automatically climbs shit anyways, remember they were still fucking around with the basic controls when the game was practically done, and wonder what the fuck the director was thinking. I'm not one of those "VsXIII would be the greatest game ever and everything would be different" fags but the project just seems like it lost vision entirely and they started doing things based on weird approximations of what Japanese casual players would like rather than what fits the game.
When they just concern themselves with making fun games instead of trying to change the world they can still do good things.
I completely agree with this... except for the ATB system. I actually think 10's turn based system was the best battle system the series ever had. But this general idea is right on point. A classic FF game would be awesome.
>I literally only like a spinoff game
Why even post in this thread?
It's clearly about the main series.
NO WAY FAG
>13
>turn based combat
>12
>pseudo MMO
12 is an ivalice game, wouldnt call it traditional by any means. I still like it though
You have to remember 15 started as a fabula nova crystallis game which is the same shit 13 and type 0 are which is why it retained that shitty setting
I would fucking love something akin to 4 5 or 9 being made again though
oh look, another "ATB isn't turn based" retard
>repetitive MMO style combat
I wish it had at least that shitty MMO style combat.
The game just play itself. I just have to move the joystick to walk around. Gambits do everything for me. And If you spend the right amount of time grinding you don't even need to change them through the game.
1. Destroy all bish faggotry.
2. Make a proper turn based combat system.
3. Stop making characters that look and sound like XXII century nu males with hormone deficiency.
4. People like sex and violence so add some.
5. Fuck off with the mogles and all that shit, keep chocobos since they're always cool.
6. Fuck off with the gay looking skyships.
7. Make a MC that can actually have a girl and not chase her for the entire game just to get blue balls.
>Ok, it's my turn
>My warrior is damaged, I need to heal this turn
>I'll open up my magic menu and s-
>*enemy attacks*
>Wow haha I must have entered a fucking wormhole and been sent forward in time until after I completed MY TURN, weird
It won't die. It's the flagship of the company. If it goes then so does Square Enix.
The game quality won't go anywhere either. People are happy with the garbage that is XV and its episodes helping to normalize action over traditional JRPG values, episodic VII at full price, or XIV schlock that can't even be classified as a video game.
It's been a decade since they last released a worthwhile title (XII) and there isn't any creativity in this franchise's foreseeable future. The glory days are far behind us.
Bravely games were well-intentioned, but nothing special. Pouring more money into them wouldn't improve shit.
>It's the flagship of the company
It's not and hasn't been since Enix bought Square.
Vanilla FFXII has tons of gameplay and design issues
>game literally has to tell you "this save point is fucked dude, you should use another save slot"
I remember I quit after dying to Garuda because instead of just putting a goddamn normal save point before the boss they put a one time save on the black screen before the boss so you had to reload a save at the beginning of the area like an hour earlier if you wanted to do more stuff before the boss.
>what is ATB Wait
>turn comes
>do one of 2, maybe 3 actions a character has within 2 seconds
>wait for you next turn
it's turn based unless you stare at the screen like a retard for no reason
It most certainly has. You have equal parts FF/DQ. Removing one deprives the other of entity. Might as well call the company Enix the instant they stop churning out excrement labelled Final Fantasy.
They are better than most FF
Your opinion is so awful that I genuinely hate who you are as a human being.
>Not an FF fan
>Play FFXV
>Feel sorry for FF fans
I almost feel lucky that my beloved franchises had a quick death.
>no moogles
>no airships
wut
i agree with the rest tho
Stop making games about edgy teenagers with stupid hair jumping around and fighting like super saiyans, and start making games about warriors of light saving motherfucking crystals again.
Name all the FF games with edgy teenagers with stupid hair jumping around and fighting like super saiyans
what if you just stopped using gambits user
yea bro we need a nother open world game like pubg except w/ the warriors of ligth and you can capture the crystals after you're airdropped in by cid's ship and have to fight other warriors of light in ffbg map that's constantly closing in so people ajve to fight and drop their crystals you can toss in magic too that's cool for the setting but open world is a must a nd guns maybe FO4
