>It was never going to work out for me. It even rained the day I was born.
>You've got it all wrong. You were the lightning in that rain. You can still shine through the darkness
Does MGS4 have some of the best dialogue in gaming?

Fuck no.
That game's a piece of shit.
is this an example of good dialogue according to you?
oh wow it fucking RAINED on the day he was born?
Shine, huh?
(You) tell 'em user
>Raiden
>rained on the day he was born
>Mark Twain
>halley's comet passed the day he was born and the day he died
JUST LIKE A SCENE FROM BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
>I know what good writing is!
I had fun when it actually let me play a little.
I feel like I'm the only one who loved this corny scene.
>Snake, we're not men
>We're shadows in the shape of men
since you say it's good you also claim to know what good writing is
MGS4 had the best MGO and it has the best boss fights IMO.
Okay so I have to ask--Back in one of the other MG threads where retards were calling other retards retarded, I mentioned that they'd fired the guy that did their localization after MGS 1 for Intac.
That actually happened, but an user had some beef with that statement. I only know what I've seen and read, so if I've been running on incomplete info and there's extra circumstances surrounding that shit, enlighten me.
Just what the fuck happened after MGS 1? Why did the English dialogue go from bad/cheesy to just downright awkward and horrible? Just why exactly do characters like Fortune sound so retarded? But also, what's Kris Zimmerman at fault for--opinion or fact?
I wanna know dammit
cute girl
FORCE OF NATURE
>MGS4 has a genuinely good and touching death scene for raiden
>for no reason he lives through it
MGS4 was such a disaster. Even the things it did well ended up getting fucked.
Is this bait? Or are you actually retarded?
This isn't even dialogue. This is shitty emo poetry barely suitable to be posted on a edgy teenager's livejournal.
THREE TIMES
Well yeah but I meant the one that specifically went out of its way to be THE death scene, complete with the sword's power flickering and turning off, his severed limb being left behind while his body is presumably crushed and dialog from MGS2 playing of his happiest moments with rose. That was about as good a death scene as Raiden could have gotten, it's not that I wanted the character to die, but you don't do that and then immediately revive him 10 minutes later in the fucking tedious mission briefing.
You know MGO2 is back?
I like how MGR made fun of that
Remind me, I don't recall MGR really commenting much on what happened to Raiden in MGS4.
>gets his arm cut off
>shit not again
When sam cuts his arm off he says "shit, not again"
That dialogue is incredibly cheesy. Real people don't talk like that - which isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but if you're going to abandon all pretence of believable dialogue you'd better have more to say than something so clumsy it isn't even a cliche.
Let's consider some examples from actual literature - pic related.
There is no such thing as a well written videogame.
Anyone who thinks there is needs to open a fucking book.
The best videogame is barely at the level of genre fiction.
agreed
>3 hours worth of gameplay
>7+ hours of cutscenes
>Ocelot was faking it the whole time
>joke character faggot who shits himself marries Meryl
>the mystery of vamps abilities = nanomachines
>raiden becomes a sad moppy faggot who gets wrecked in every cutscene he is in
>the existence of Big Momma and how nothing came from it
>Solid getting his face charred
>don't even show how Sunny was rescued
>Naomi falling in love with Otacon
christ its like he didn't know where to take the story, and after 2 years of dev time he only got done with the first act, and realized he had a year to finish the rest of the game.
>shitty jungle act
>shitty sneak in europe act
>remember MGS1 act
>go into the boat and pull the off switch act
Give it time.
Semi-unrelated, but they already offer more value than the shit Hollywood has been pumping out for years.
Bravo Lucas.
>but they already offer more value than the shit Hollywood has been pumping out for years
t.faggot who only watches capeshit & transformers
>MGS4
>best boss fights
thats not MGS3
the only boss fight worth a fuck in MGS4 is the Crying Wolf fight.
i don't even know how you can be retarded enough to say MGS4 had the best boss fights.
I've just stopped keeping up with American movies. Rattle a short list off for me?
What are some well-thought movies offering a valuable lesson or point from the last five years?
No cliches
>Mud
>Dallas Buyers Club
>Silence
>Foxcatcher
>Manchester by the Sea
>Starred Up
>The Grand Budapest Hotel
>Gone Girl
>Embrace of the Serpent
>Hunt for the Wilderpeople
>600 Miles
>Sicario
>'71
>Ex Machina
that just the films i skimmed in my Plex server worth noting
how bout you stop being a fuckin faggot, and learn to not be a parroting gaylord
here some more...
>Birdman
>The Imitation Game
>Nightcrawler
>Frank
>Joe
>Blue Ruin
>Green Room
I was about to rip into your shit taste in movies but
>The Grand Budapest Hotel
you're alright.
>rip on my shit taste
>the movie that prevented was Wes Anderson flick
oh man, talk about the pot calling the kettle black
>Hunt for the Wilderpeople
He asked for American movies.
That's a New Zealand film.
THE GRAND BUDAPEST IS A GOOD MOVIE
NO, IT'S A BAD MOVIE
i only looked through movies in the past 5 years (give or take)
but thank you, you did it, you solved the fuckin case
>Manchester by the Sea
kek
it is a good movie, but the fact that of all the movies there, the one that got you to not criticize my list was a film by Wes Anderson.
Which is the most cookie cutter shit someone could say. Cuz a lot of those films are much better.
If by "better" you mean bogged down in a pretentious attempt to be half as good as literature, sure.
Fucking hell no. Not even close. MGS4 is the absolute definition of "We don't know how to tell the story well so we're going to constantly have characters give you MASSIVE exposition dumps to explain everything". I mean, for fuck's sake, Big Boss suddenly comes back from the dead out of nowhere at the end of the game just to give you 20 minutes of exposition and then he conveniently dies as soon as he's explained the plot to you.
If you want good dialogue in MGS look no further than 1.
>In nature there is no such thing as boundless slaughter, there is always an end to it. But you, Snake, are different. The paths you walk on have no end, each step you take is paved with the corpses of your enemies. Their spirits will haunt you forever. You shall have *No* peace.
AND THEY RUN WHEN THE SUN COMES UP
the imitation game was alright but it felt like a made for tv movie
fuckin tragic what they did to turing though, the man was a national hero
>an entire medium made entirely of writting has better writting than a visual medium
wow dude, i never thought of it that way, how insightful
3 has the potentially best bosses, as in there are lots of optional gimmicks and tricks to use against them. All the fun stuff is strictly optional, though. In 4 the fun stuff is integral to the boss fight in a way that you're bound to experience it.
It's arguable which is the better way, though. Personally I prefer 3's bosses, but that's because I've played through it so many times I've had ample chance to play around with them and find the fun stuff.
>Will it be Solidus, the Patriots creation?
>Or you, Solidus' creation?
>Our beloved monsters. Enjoy yourselves
If you didn't feel anything during the Ocelot fight please consider suicide
>In 4 the fun stuff is integral to the boss fight
>MGS4
hide in go seek in a cabin
>MGS3
hide n go seek in a jungle
>MGS4
shoot the Raven with a grenade launcher
>MGS3
shoot the Shagohad with a rocket launcher
>MGS4
shoot the Mantis puppet
>MGS3
walk past the ghosts of those you killed in-game
Mech-battle was cool, tho it was obvious pandering
>i get swept by nostalgia-pandering and i think everyone should eat it up just like me
no thank you, i like my brain.
>MGO never got popular outside of a niche group of people that were active for about a month after each release before it all died
and yet, they swear that MGO's clunky combat was god's gift to gaming and never shut the fuck up about the good ol' days
what brain
you forgot "is" in the middle of your post
no
That's pretty corny m7.
I know japan has this sort of thing for poetry reference in dialog but holy shit does that stuff not translate makes it sound more like porn dialog.
I wish I could have experienced the metal gear games as a jap
I really wonder if the way it's written comes across better in its native language
It makes me think of Genji Monogatari, which is a huge pile of text about the king of all manwhores. A line or two of poetry and the chick was all wet.
Shame there were no actual sex scenes described, it would have made it less of a pain to read.
Not to mention the stupid ass scoring system. If someone doesn't do well YOU lose scoring and your rank
where?
