Still better ending than infinite
youtube.com
The fuck happened there?
It takes place either at the same time as or after 1. And it's a Murkoff experiment with a signal based version of the Morphogenic engine.
...
To properly understand why an ending is bad, you need to have some context.
Don't know what's happening in that scene or why it's bad
It's basically meme magic.
Everyone pretends to be retarded and BAM! Everyone's legit retarded now.
MGS5 you just play the fucking first level again with 2 or 3 new cutscenes
I'm supprised RAGE hasn't been posted already
Yeah, but why does everything explode at the end?
they don't think it be like it is, but it do
Dying Light's final boss battle was crappy.
The second ending with the nuke in the expansion was also dumb. The actual ending was okay though.
Because they think that birth of the child marks end of the world, so even your character is seeing it thanks to Murkoff.
>Entire game is basically just beating up on Otus and the team just falling short of being the heroes of the day and saving ____ as this whimsical land crumbled and burned around them
>Final level takes away the mechanic that was the core of the entire fucking game, you can't fly
>Ending devolves into an autistic lore dump
>Otus then receive the most nonsensical unnecessary death imaginable
>The parties role in the plot of the game ultimately proves to be absolutely fucking zilch, you don't effect the outcome of a single fucking event for the entire game
Really it was a pretty decent game up until the final level mechanically. AMAZING art and music.
Then the ending left me on such a humongous fucking sour note that it took me weeks to figure out whether or not I enjoyed myself at any point.
I fucking loved Army of Two. That was the best co-op experience I ever played with my friends.
>Army of Two was a genuinely amazing fucking experience with a good plot
>The 40th Day had all this fucking bullshit where no matter choice you picked it was always the wrong choice and the game ended with you having to kill either one of the main characters
>lol jk
>The Devil's Cartel was really fun gameplay-wise but HOLY SHIT GUYS WE GOTTA BE SERIOUS ONLY REAL SERIOUS ACTORS ALLOWED
>Game ended with "lol xD Salem is ebul" when he has always just been goofy playboy guy
It's really hard to beat Mass Effect 3 but Square Enix somehow managed to top Bioware writing with Final Fantasy X-2,5 novella that ends the story with Tidus kicking a blitzball bomb that blows his fucking head away.
The last words of this trilogy were downloadable content.
This. The game was actually pretty fun until it just abruptly ends. They must have ran out of time or money or something.
I liked the music box dream sequence turned nightmare.
Is it permanent? Or do they reanimate him?
It's honestly just this. I can't think of anything worse after all this time when I played MGS in 1998 as a kid, and the whole series are like my favorite games of all time.
I get it that Hideo was sick of being forced to make them though and I don't blame him.
Liked the build-up. Liked the banter, and atmosphere, and style.
But that ending just left me with a slowly deflating sense of anti-climax. Which I get is the point. But still.
Worst bait I've ever seen on this board.
Bioshock, easily.
>Fontaine's HQ is the tallest building in the city, can't explore any of it
>end boss is a walking statue that changes state every time you kill it, doesn't do anything interesting
>end boss is easily killable, regardless of state, with the telekinesis plasmid via all the barrel lying around
>ending is a 10 second prerendered cutscene
Bioshock 2 is a runner up.
Can you remind me what happened again?
I beat it on release and remember legitimately enjoying the game despite everyone saying it was shit.
Infinite's ending wasn't so bad, but only because the rest of the game had totally lost the plot by that point the ending couldn't have mattered in the first place. Goes to demonstrate how bad Infinite is and how much of a hack writer Levine is.
Kek you expected to marry Queen Annalise or smth in the end perhaps? Faggot.
this.
whole thing fell apart with the "Would you kindly" highschool novelist plot twist
at least MGS4 was a much more satisfying conclusion and MGS5 was just a prequel
the plot twist was great, but they didn't know what to do afterwards and shouldn't have done it
>No mention of Infinite which have by FAR the shittiest ending of the three
End yourself on the spot please.
To be fair MP is way too easy for a final boss.
Well then you have a gameplay issue with it then and not really an ending issue, but I see what you are saying.
Yuna turns him into a fayth/summon thing and revives him without any memory.
Google the rest for the extra sordid and fucked up details.
I agree with you entirely.
MGS4 was the best ending there could be. The only thing better would be if they let Kojima use his intended ending, you can look that one up.
pretty sure they decided to fuck tidus because they wanted to get rid of X for good
IIRC he's been trying to actively kill the series starting after 3.
First post best post, god what a shitty ending
FFX-2 Never happened.
Stop it.
LALALALALALALALA
I know that. In fact he only wanted there to be 2 but the next two after that are so fucking good.
>snake and otacon get captured and executed as traitors
nah. snake deserved to be happy, even if it was only for a little while. very strong anti-smoking message too
got it for 5 bucks. I still feel ripped off.
also that DLC pricing. holy shit people actually buy this shit?
>Two of the best characters end up in an adorable relationship, even planning to get hitched, start a small business and have kids once all is said and done.
>One dies at the end and leaves the other a hollow shell of what they once were, consumed by grief.
They turn themselves in though knowing that they broke the law.
That's what makes it good. They aren't merely captured.
But I'll add at the same time I think the used ending was good as well.
whatever happened to playing games to be the hero and save the day? these video game endings have been getting exponentially less satisfying as time goes on. maybe it was shocking back in the day to have a game end on such a downer but it seems to be the norm nowadays and it's a fucking shitty way to treat your players if you can't even get a decent ending at all
Lightning Returns.
>It's fucking retarded
>Even within the context of the trilogy, it's an absurd concept. Pulled out in the last game due to desperation for resolution.
>It gave Motomu Toriyama and his Lightningfag drones more pathetic waifubait delusions
>It features Lightning. Gaming's female equivalent to Roman Reigns.
>The actually decent characters (all potentially two of them) sit back and be Lightning Cheerleaders. Despite Fang and Vanille, yet a-fucking-gain, doing all the actual work.
>It's post-IX Square 'writing'.
Eh, I didn't buy it.
In general I don't like this problem a lot of games have where it tells you you're somehow special. Didn't that happen in the end?
He said he was, like, destined to crash on that day and entire rapture, or something?
You take on the role of a chosen, extraordinary being doing extraordinary things, which, IMO, is nowhere near is interesting as playing an unextraordinary being doing extraordinary things.
One has you doing exactly what you're supposed to, the other implies struggle and resolve.
Everyone dies despite saving the world
>there are people out there that actually care about this story
apparently the writers themselves didn't
Syndicate's ending was worse, though.
Well, except for the whole 'cloning god-king from space' thing.
This guy has a good attitude.
>Bamham identity is exposed, endangering all of his associates by turning them into potential leverage for his many enemies
>He spends his one last night patrolling his city and capturing leftover rogues before returning to his home
>Sacrifices himself so that the people he loves can never be used against him, freeing them from their service in the process
Best ending Bruce could have, I'd say. After all the shit he talks about Joker, Two-Face, etc., he probably can't live without them. Any other life would be boring and meaningless by comparison.
What exactly did he die for?
I stopped after Black flag, but what I have seem of the other games Juno hasn't done shit and all that happened was the Templars made video games.
Now I see on the wiki that he had a fucking son too.
Oh yeah it's coming back to me now.
Didn't have a problem with it and still liked the game even though so many people didn't.
Me too, one of my favorite of all time
Name one game
Eye of the Beholder
The developer had no faith in their game, so after you kill the Beholder it just drops you back to the command line. No ending, no nothing. People called their support and sent letters thinking the game was bugged, but there really was no ending.
An ending was added to all ports after the original DOS version.
HAHAHAAHA
I don't even know this game but this looks like some of the most pathetic shit I've ever seen.
What bothers me more is how games need you to always save the day of the entire world (preferably with a button prompt), instead focusing on a simple, day in a life kinda setting. Papers Please, Grim Fandango, side quests in Deus Ex. In these settings you don't get to be the messiah. You just get to do you job. But you get access to an amazing and intriguing world, through the eyes of the real people that inhabit it, doing relatively small tasks with small goals.
Simplifying the setting, or reducing the scale allows you to tell much more human and tangible stories.
Nobody can relate to saving the world, it lacks grip.
I'd repay with a link to high class porn for that compliment, but I don't have any.
>you don't save the world in grim fandango
Bioshock's problem is it failed to flesh out the body horror aspect of plasmid abuse so in the end what should have been a confrontation with Fontaine as a physical manifestation of the ills of Rapture's society, you instead end up fighting a literal golden Adonis with superpowers. Which I understand the art deco theming and critique of Objectivism that motivated that design, but it still seems like a missed opportunity for Fontaine to not be transformed into something truly repulsive and monstrous. How do you NOT pull a Tetsuo at that point and have Fontaine degenerate into a disincorporated, rapidly expanding flesh mound spitting fire and bees everywhere as his consciousness splits into gibbering mouthers of greed and avarice?
I remember Bioshock 2 trying to imply something like this, but it never showed the creature explicitly, it was inside some large container. Which is bullshit, frankly. Why the fuck is there so little bio horror in Bioshock? It's fucking asinine.
It's not that it can't happen, just that it needs to presented in a believable way.
Maybe Abes Exodus is a better example.
the story is hot garbage, but that gameplay is satisfying yo
Always and forever ME 3.
>what should have been a confrontation with Fontaine as a physical manifestation of the ills of Rapture's society, you instead end up fighting a literal golden Adonis with superpowers
Great point, never thought about that, actually.
An Akira like design would have been so much more interesting. I remember thinking that Atlas boss was just ridiculous and kinda made me feel like someone was making fun of me for spending time playing the game.
Mario Galaxy 1
>dude universal retcon lmao
came here to post this. this remains among the top worst endings I've ever seen in any video game to date. and I've played a shitload of them
it unironically pisses me off that people think it's "not that bad". no. fuck you. yes it is. if it wasn't "that bad" then it wouldn't still be topping worst ending lists written by random journalists years later
SMTIV:A
The friendship bullshit feels unlike SMT and the school shooter route feels unsatisfying and over the top edgy and too dramatic.
In its defense, it was one of the first interesting SMT games story wise.
I should've stopped playing after Revelations, concluding Ezio's story was enough.
The divine powers were pretty good, that I can't deny, but the awful cast really ruins it.
Also I feel mainline always has cool stories, not deep but interesting at least. They're more about the worlds and atmosphere then actual plot, that is more for the spinoffs.
>That navel
No
>the school shooter route feels unsatisfying and over the top edgy and too dramatic.
How ? It's nothing over the top for smt. And how is it not satysfying ? You've killed everyone and everything. The final boss fight was fantastic.
It's ok, I'm not bothered by it. It's the thought that counts in this case and I appreciate it.
>MGS4
>so fucking good
Not really
>Beating a Mario game back in 87
Congratulations, you beat Bowser and rescued the princess!
>Beating a game today
You die, your girlfriend dies, your father dies, your best bro becomes blind, and FUCK YOU in general
What's so bad about that?
How is the 1st Fable the best game in the series? The second one glitch on me and my dog disappeared.
Why? Your post doesn't make sense.
Because Superman is shit.
Desu Sex: Mankind Divided is the role model.
Dragon's Dogma is next on the list.
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic had a good string of events leading up to the ending, some choices and variety included, really nice stuff, but the endings suck big time, it's like they didn't even try.
I'm still mad.
>there are people out there that actually care about this story
About Desmon's story? No there aren't, you silly billy.
I have no idea why I kept playing Mass Effect, nothing I did in those 3 games effected the shifty ending
Once Desmond died, the story became directionless and turned to shit. Just try to fight me on this.
youtube.com
No it doesn't make any fucking sense in context there is no information as to who kills you or why
The reason it's different people in each ending is that the ending differs based on how you played the game and it's the first time you see your silent protagonist, so if you're a good guy you get the first guy, if you're constantly taking upskirts and shit you have the appearance of a creepy nerd etc
wat
I'm hard-pressed to think of something that tops this one. A lot of people argue that the game up until the ending was decent but I thought the game in its entirety was lackluster and the ending was the most absolutely offensive and contrived bullshit. I mean Christ, when you have fans so hard in denial over how shit the ending was that they conjure up a fan-theory to try and keep themselves from hating the game, you know it's pretty bad. It's a shame, I really liked the prior two installments - especially the second one. You go into the third one all excited to see where your choices ultimately take you and they end up not mattering one fucking bit and the team you pain-stakingly collected and developed relations with in the second game are for the most part brushed aside for a different fucking team in the third game.
Did they change the ending on the DS?
