Rate Switch's first year

Two GOTY contenders (Mario, Zelda)

Honorable mentions:
> Splatoon 2
> Pokken Tournament DX
> Xenoblade 2
> Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
> Arms
> Fire Emblem Warriors
> Mario + Rabbid

How would you rate Switch's first year compared to PS4/Xbone?

By itsself. 8.
In comparisson to PS4/Xbobe, 10.

>mfw the only worthwhile game that isn't available on another console is Mario Odyssey
>mfw I decided to preorder the Odyssey Bundle anyway in some kind of pathetic blind faith in Nintendo

I may have made a huge mistake

I think it's one of the best launch years of any system

especially compared to PS4/Xbone, which felt like a bad idea to buy in their first year because most multiplats were still on PS360 as well

Honestly, best launch year for any system ever. It ended up being a very smart move for Nintendo to release it so early in the year.

It was alright, much better than usual but I'm not blown away either. Zelda came close but I still haven't played a Switch game that's felt like it'll be a favourite some years down the road, mostly just "yeah this is pretty fun" games ala Splatoon and Rabbids. Unfortunately I feel like Odyssey isn't gonna do it for me either.

For 2018, I'm looking forward to (so far):

- Metroid Prime 4
- Fire Emblem
- Pokemon Gen 8
- Dragon Quest XI
- Octopath Traveller
- Netflix (seriously what's taking so long?)

Its been one of the strongest launches of any gen. Maybe not in terms of quantity but definitely quality.

I kinda dig the nurturing of indie games on the system too. I'll probably pick one up for mario. Is the pro pad a must-buy?

I already know how you're going to respond to this, but what are you playing Mario + Rabbids on?

Quite literally the best launch of any console, and even then I don't have one.
2018 will seal its fate

>2018
>metroid prime 4

Hm, for media services, think they'll add it as a centre row app, or put an extra tab on the bottom row for "streaming/media services"

I know that feel, Odyssey looks fucking amazing but I think I might've jumped the gun buying the bundle already, I can't think of any other games I'd want other than Prime 4 and maybe Kirby

>Is the pro pad a must-buy?
depends on if you use the switch as a home console or not

6/10
Mostly ports, and only one interesting game the entire year, Mario.
I imagine a huge drop off next year when Nintendo can't port Wii U games anymore.

I've been considering one, since it means i don't have to fuss around taking off the joy cons when docking.

I must say the grip was more comfortable than i expected.

it's my personal favorite controller of this gen (light and comfortable to hold), works as a bluetooth Dinput controller on PC, and has a 40 hour battery life

if the price doesn't put you off and you don't play racing games I'd say it's worth the purchase

3

Zelda was released on the Wii U. I had a Wii U and bought Zelda for it then instead of getting a Switch, so it is barely a Switch exclusive in my mind.

It wasn't until Splatoon 2 did I get my Switch. I played Splatoon 2 for a good number of weeks, but when I got kinda bored of it, I looked back to see what other games were worth getting and honestly, there was nothing of value. I played ARMS on a friend's switch, and after you played like a couple of hours of ARMS, you quickly notice there is not much the game offers.

Pokken and MK8, both great games, but released on the Wii U, so I played both of them already years ago. I also don't think they added enough to either updated port, especially MK8.

Fire Emblem Warriors looks bad because 1. it's a fucking warriors game, they've never been good, and 2. too much nu-FE shit.

Xenoblade 1 was fun when I first played it on the wii because it was something entirely different and JRPGs were pretty much dead during the time XBC came out. After replaying XBC and playing XBCX, I gotta say, I really hate the combat system. Hopefully XBC2 will fix that, but I'm not too hyped about it.

I don't see why people are excited for shit like LA Noire and Doom. Just because some western, rated M games are coming to the Switch doesn't mean Nintendo cares about rated M or western games or that western companies like Bethesda care about Nintendo. Plus, any smart person would know never to get a Bethesda game on anything except PC.

Mario Odyssey looks great. Pretty much my next guaranteed day one purchase.

It's hard to make a case for anything lower than 9/10. It is the perfect blend of portability and power of a home console. BotW is GOTY and, barring some amazing release coming soon, arguably game of the decade. Splatoon 2 did everything right by building on its predecessor and improving in every way. And Odyssey is right around the corner and all indications are that it can give BotW a run for its money.

Of course, this place is sonyGAF so expect a few wojaks and gold faces in response.

I think that switch is a new golden age.
6 months in, I already have a list of 25 games I want.
Never fucking happened before and I follow videogames since the 90s.

>le splatoon 2 is le same gaem XDDDD

die

>Netflix (seriously what's taking so long?)

God, this and the lack of an internet browser are really pissing me off. I'd also like a miiverse-like app and achievements by now.

Who cares who it compares to PS4/Xbone it'll never outsell them and is lagging behind the PS4 in wbw sales.

It's a pisspoor launch compared to the better half of Nintendo consoles. Hell Gamecube had MELEE its first year. Switch is fucking awful compared to its predecessors.

Must buy? Nah. It's more comfortable than joycons in grip, and I'd recommend one if you don't plan to do much couch co-op. I use my switch 70/30 docked/handheld and like says, it's a blessing to not have to fart around with attaching joycons.

I know a lot of people wouldn't want it, but i'd totally be into a BF:BC style title for the switch with comfy 32-48 player MP

Didn't they do this for the Gamecube too? Blew its load early on and then had nothing the following years?

This is definitely no Wii as most people don't even talk about it or want it, so I'm wondering what happens when they don't have anymore ports?

Arms was basically a minigame that disappeared after a month

Splatoon 2 was 80% Splatoon 1 again

Xenoblade 2 was rushed using X assets (as many of the monster literally are the same) and looks awful thus far.

I wonder how long Mario was in the oven, since 3D world was pretty low effort. 2018 will be pretty telling, but as it stands, you can play most of the better games like Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter elsewhere, so there's little reason to buy a port machine that is the worst possible way to enjoy these games.

nintendolife.com/news/2017/09/rumour_netflix_app_ready_for_switch_all_it_needs_is_nintendos_go-ahead

But Pokken on the Wii U was unplayable

>Is the pro pad a must-buy?
Not really. For the Wii U it was necessary, but not so much for the Switch.

The Joy-con grip works fine for me

How the hell did you think XBC was fun at first and required a replay to realize you hate the gameplay?

and i bet 20 out of those 25 are random indie games you can buy on a ps4 or pc?

Are you implying games have to be exclusive to make it worth it?

But being on the Switch makes it portable

Considering the Switch specs, yes. Most of the games so far have needed significant downgrades and STILL perform poorly.

Not him, but there's very little reason for a current gen console to have such a massive gap in performance compared to 4 year old consoles. And no, portability is not an argument. Most adults don't leave the house planning to play games while they are out.

I got my Wii U early on and there was a long drought of games so I decided to check out some Wii games since the Wii U was backwards compatible. I loved XBC at first because 1. I was starved of games, especially JRPGS which are one of my favorite genres and 2. it was something really different and unexpected, especially coming from Nintendo.

>- Metroid Prime 4
>- Pokemon Gen 8
Shit we know nothing about.

>- Dragon Quest XI
Switch is still TBA but at least it's a game that's finished

Nintendo's competitors will be hurting once Pokemon Gen 8 releases for the Switch

>391435578
>Dumb anime poster

Opinion discarded

They don't want to get their switch modded so they are not going to have a browser

>Honorable mentions
>Pokken Tournament DX
>Arms

I think it's gonna be more like:

>2018
Kirby Star Allies
Project Octopath Traveler
Yoshi Switch
Dragon Quest XI
Travis Strikes Back: No More Heroes
Fire Emblem Switch
Shin Megami Tensei V
Retro's Next Game
Platinum's Next Game

>2019
Metroid Prime 4
Pokemon Switch

please tell me you're joking

watching kissanime on the wii u gamepad was max comfy

>arms
>fe warriors
those are terrible games

Not joking. They really don't want to get hacked anymore so only having apps posted instead

This thread is about the switch's first year, not first day.

Jesus, is this what passes for goty games among nintendo fans? I'm so sorry...

>retarded opinion
>reaction image from literal huzyosi b8 show

extremely cancerous, end yourself

I can't wait to play Pokemon Gen 8 and go through hours and hours of handholding.

It's more likely than you think.

They already have an idea for the story and usually that's last on Nintendo's bucket list of things to do before pushing a game out.

Considering it's also not Retro Studios developing, it's less likely to be delayed.

Speaking of Retro Studios, think they'll do another DKC to have their own trilogy of games?

no fucking way they've been spending all this time or hiring the deus ex composer on DKC

>BotW
>Pokken
>MK8
WiiU games

>Odyssey
>Xenoblade 2
Not released yet but at least exclusive and Odyssey looks like it might be very good

>How would you rate Switch's first year compared to PS4/Xbone?
Well, the PS4/X1 had a lot more time and have built up a decent lineup but then again they have been on the market for a longer time so it's likely that you already own one of them. If you own a WiiU, you can easily wait a bit longer to wait for a pricecut/sale.
I'd say that PS4/Switch is the best combination since the X1 games are on PC.

Using WiiU ports is a smart decisions because the WiiU didn't sell that well and it helps padding the launch year.

dkc is nintendo's best franchise

A good year, but I can't help feeling like they blew their load too soon, all at the cost of terrible two years for the Wii U (still burned by how they gave up support for it so soon). It was also too Nintendo-centric, which means third party offerings were abysmal and I like my consoles to have third party support.

I won't buy the Switch until it's much cheaper. If they want to have underpowered consoles, AGAIN, with the lifespan of Fisher Price toys, I'll wait until they cost as much as those toys to not feel burned again.

Well then it's probably a new IP, or Retro has more than 1 dev team like Monolith and they'll have a smaller project come out to sate people waiting for Retro's next big game.

Also, I'm curious to see how Capcom's support is like for Switch going into 2018.

It's pretty clear that SE and Bethesda are in for the long haul, but for Capcom all we have to go on is Resident Evil Revelations 1+2.

dkc also doesn't require 4+ years of development

>another DKC

Pls no. An overabundance of 2d platformers is part of the reason the wii u sucked. Retro's talents should be put to something more ambitious.

I'm not him, but I own XCOM 1 and 2, why would I want the 0.25 version, made for kids?

>Retro has more than 1 dev team like Monolith

doubt it, both have 1 dev team and 1 team that assists nintendo with other games

>It was also too Nintendo-centric
Only in the fact that they didn't net HUGE AAA FPSes coming out this year.

I still think getting original versions of NBA2K18, FIFA18, Skyrim, Doom and Wolfenstein 2 are a huge win in regards to 3rd party support from the West.

Also, it seems NBA2K18 is doing exceedingly well (at least on the NA Switch eShop).

Nothing I'm super interested in, Xenoblade 2 looks kind of interesting but not worth getting one right now. Next year looks good though.

literally the console for man children

This

it's fun and rewarding in its own way eye emm oh. plus boss battles are pretty neat.

>Breath of the Wild
>Mario
>GOTY

It's alright. Even if I didn't like BotW myself I can see the appeal.
But that's where it stops.
Odyssey and Xenoblade 2 both have great potential, but I'm not going to rate them from trailers alone.

Splatoon 2, Pokken and Mario Kart 8 are glorified ports. Pokken isn't even good.
Arms is forgettable as fuck.
M+R is just Xcom for kids.

Compared to PS4/Xbone? 11/10
I still want more actually good games though, the only good ones are BoTW and Mario + Rabbids, possibly Odyssey.

...

>t.scrubby player
>t.trol who's never played the game

>Atlus games are now considered 1st party Sega developed

Kek

Like a 6. I want Zelda and possibly Xenoblade 2, but don't care for multiplayer games or dynasty warriors at all. Mario Odyssey looks absolutely terrible to me even though I like other Mario games so we'll see.

>Intelligent Systems games are now considered 1st party Nintendo developed

>Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
8/10
>Snipperclips
6/10
>Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
7/10
>ARMS
5/10
>Splatoon 2
8/10
>Mario + Rabbids
6/10
>Pokken Tournament DX
6/10

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here

what is this supposed to be telling me

I can understand BOTW but
>Odyssey
>not GOTY

>Not Xenoblade 2
Horrible taste detected

Think about it.

8/10, BoTW 60fps never ever

>Shitting on snipperclips

Fite me

>BotW
>Pokken
>MK8
>WiiU games

Pokken was unplayable on the Wii U (no gameplay patches or support that the arcade version had, and shit multiplayer that forced one person with the Wii U Pad and cut frame-rate). The Switch version remedies all that, and then some.

MK8 Deluxe comes with all the DLC + new Battle Mode.

Not to mention they are all portable due to being on the Switch, or the fact that Wii U sold like shit so no one has one anyway.

sega likes yakuza?

>Mario hasn't even come out
>GOTY
What if it's shit

Sega shits out mediocre weeb games?

Why yes.

Do you see them developing or having ever developed on other platforms?

They were even involved with porting Famicom Disk System software to Famicom carts.

They started out as auxiliary–tool developers and eventually became game developers for Nintendo hardware.

>BOTW
8.5/10
>MK8D
6.5/10
>ARMS
3/10
>Splatoon 2
6/10
>M+R
8/10 unironically. only wish it were longer with more freedom regarding your team/less boring exploration puzzle shit

In the 1st 12 months of the SNES in North America we got
>Super Mario World
>F-Zero
>Final Fight
>ActRaiser
>Final Fantasy II/IV
>Super Ghouls n' Ghosts
>Super Castlevania IV
>Joe and Mac
>Super Adventure Island
>Contra III
>TLoZ:aLttP
>Legend of the Mystical Ninja
>Street Fighter II
>TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
and that's just a selection of really well known/respected games. There were a lot of other great niche titles like Romance of the Three Kingdoms II, Populous, and Super Wrestlemania, etc. and that's all just a small sampling. The Switch doesn't even compare to the first year of the SNES. The only argument in favor of the Switch is that SNES had a full year in Japan and Korea before slowly rolling out to the rest of the world allowing more game development during that time. Switch is pretty great so far, but let's not take a victory lap yet until 2018 is on the books.

Who said anything about platforms?

>I A ROM
what did nintendo mean by this?

I have a Switch and honestly if you're buying a console and you're only interested in one game on it then you're retarded. That said I'd recommend Splat 2.

Why such a low score for Arms?

buy an xbone if you want TEEVEE trash you loser, I buy consoles for VIDEOGAMES

That's some very weak convincing

> Mario
> Zelda
> Metroid
> Fire Emblem (Non-spin off)
> Pokemon (Non-spin off)

ALL within the first 2 years of this console

Just how are they doing it??

have any of the x-com fans on here actually played it or heard of community members shitting on it? everyone who really likes x-com holds it in pretty high regard. hell even the creator.

4/10 nice try, nice try however...

Good tier:

Breath of the Wild
Mario Odyssey
Xenoblade 2

>Shit tier

Wii Boxing 2
Rabbids
$60 Splatoon DLC
Skyrim
$60 Mario Kart 8 DLC
$60 Pokken remake

>Absolute dog shit tier

1 2 Switch
Fire Emblem Warriors

Anyone play the Octopath Traveler demo? I had a ton of fun on it and it went from a "Maybe I'll buy this" to "Absolutely buying this day one"

Fine, I'll let Pokken slide but not MK8.

>portable
So what?

I did, now fight me on them not being a 1st party studio since it's pretty clear that they are just as HAL is with Nintendo and closely intertwined to the point that one can't imagine them developing games on non-Nintendo hardware and as such should be considered 1st party.

What non-Nintendo IPs have they worked on over the years?

>What non-Nintendo IPs have they worked on over the years?
Fire Emblem Heroes

The first two are good, but Skyrim is a game no one cares about anymore (specially on Switch of all places), Doom is a 2016 game that runs bad on Switch and W2 will come sometime in 2018, after everyone played the better versions on other platforms.

didn't grab me at all and was probably my more regretful purchase in a while. i still pop it in when buddies come over, though. at least i got physical and can sell/trade in eventually.
