Are videogames a medium for storytelling? Or are they simply a distraction that has been refined to push our primal needs for danger and accomplishment? Or something else?
Are videogames a medium for storytelling...
Both
ur a melonhead, op.
They're capable of both. Either one is fine.
They're whatever the creator intended.
Video games are art.
story telling is a simply distraction
The last thing a video game should try to do is tell a story
this is good bait
>Dark Souls II
Everything we do is driven by primal needs.
why are people so fixated on a game's story instead of the game design? you know, the thing that makes vidya unique. you don't see movie critics judging the story of a movie while ignoring the cinematography.
THE GREAT GATSBY
They can be but they usually shoehorn it into a Third person cover shooter with some TWEEST mechanic to try and make it engaging.
Or put it in some open world with uninspired gameplay that gets boring within the first hour or so.
Very rarely do games walk the fine line between both engaging gameplay and story.
Video games CAN be a medium for story telling, that's the beauty of it
They can, but they usually try not too or try hard too look like they aren't. Most other times it's just bad writing or no writing.
>Twilight Princess
Wow. Fuck you, man. At least this list included Ulysses in the literature column, that's my litmus test for whether someone knows anything about anything.
old sport
>Dark Souls 2
>Gatsby
>Naruto
>Dark Souls 2
>BnHA
Can anyone point out the bait in other categories?
Twilight Princess
S5 Samurai Jack aside from the first 3 episodes
Storytelling should be secondary. Games should focus on have interesting and engaging gameplay. There is WAY too much of a focus on just using games for storytelling with many modern games.
So the Sup Forums part is correct?
Assuming this a single bait per category
>The last supper
>Gatsby
>Boyhood
>Naturo
>Tom and Jerry
>Twilight Princess
>Dark side of The Moon
>The Walking Dead
>FMJ
Do I win?
>>FMJ
Fug, I meant FMA.
>FMA
>ignoring BnHA
I don't know shit about Sup Forums stuff
Usually whatever people hold as a fucking god-given masterpiece of film (Godfather, Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, The Shining, etc.) usually just misses me completely or I'm just fucking bored of it
No, FMA deserves that spot I'd like to think
My Hero Academia does not, however.
It's good, but it's just a battle shonen at the end of the day
Video games are for people to make money. No one does it for the purpose of "art" The only thing at the end of the road for the developers is the paycheck
fbpb
Best and only answer
i seriously hope naruto is only on there because of the trap
Boyhood
That's not the problem, it's that the stories are shit. Unique things can be done with an interactive medium, but nobody does that. Instead games are praised for being "cinematic". Fucking blows
...
Games can be good for giving you an opportunity to make your own story, like in role-playing games, but that's all. When a game tries to push a good script a story ends up in the movie category, like with Metal Gear, or just too separated by gameplay. Too many times were when I was slightly interested in story but wasn't interested in continuing gameplay. Simple stories are cool and engaging, but serious stuff better be left for books and movies, where you actually come for the story.
