Thinking about upgrading my PC

I don't know if I should post this here or in Sup Forums, but it's related to gaming so I'll just post it here.

So, my graphics card is fucked beyond repair and it was an older model anyway (Geforce GTX 680).

I'm thinking of buying the following for Christmas and I'd like to hear your thoughts, Sup Forums:
>Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060
>Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2 GHz QuadCore 8MB Cache Processor
>Noiseblocker fans with mesh (noise level is extremely important to me)
>MSI Intel Z270 SLI PLUS 7th/6th Gen USB2 Motherboard - Black (Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Processor, LGA 1151, Dual Channel DDR4, USB 3.1, PCI-E 3.0, PCI-E x1, Sata 6 GB)
>8gb RAM and 1TB hard drive

Does this sound good to you guys? I'm not an expert on PC hardware

I won't even be playing high-end games on it. I really just play classics like Baldur's Gate, Tales of Symphonia, Morrowind, etc. And I'll probably pick up Monster Hunter World and Mount and Blade Bannerlord when they come out

i have a 1060 and i wish i got the the 1070

Or just buy a PS4

I spent about the same amount of money on my rig as you will, same graphics card, and I can tell you now that SSDs are absolutely worth the money.

>buying a quadcore in 2017
Might as well grab an older i5 and save some dosh

>(noise level is extremely important to me)
Case itself will do more to block noise than fans ever will.
If you haven't got huge air vents then stick noise dampening foam on the inside walls.

Why? I'm curious because I'm not going to be picking up the most high-end shit like Battlefield 1 anytime soon. I'll probably pick up new RPGs and mostly play classics.

Go ask Sup Forums
They love these threads.

Wait until next year for volta. The 1060 is nearing 2 years of age now and the next gen of vidya cards from nvidia should be out mid 2018.

Honestly, I don't see many newer games I want demand more than the 900 series. Fallout doesn't, Dark Souls doesn't, and I doubt Mount and Blade Bannerlord or Monster Hunter World will either desu

Still at 1080p? If so the 1060 will likely be fine. Honestly, even if you are not a huge graphics person, you should probably just get a 1070 or even an used 980. Monster Hunter World will probably recommend a 1070. RAM is fine, people will say 16 GB is the new minimum for a build but you can upgrade that easy later on.

You can probably even get away with a 7th gen i5 unless you are doing some CPU intensive work elsewhere---video editing, rendering, etc.

I'll think about it. I kind of don't want to go over the €1'000 mark. I'll be buying my stuff on Amazon to cut costs.

>noise blocker
>plays with head phones
what did user mean by this?

If you can get better for the same price why not. Just saying because the 1160 or whatever should have better tech and it won't be as old for a similar price.

1060 is fine then

1060 is perfect for you.

The new i3 is better than the 7700, and obviously you should get the new i5.

1060 kinda sucks.

8gb is not enough.

Still, it bugs me if I can hear it

Tbh Battlefield 1 runs great even on older/lower tier cards so 1060 should be fine

Do at least 16 GB of RAM. Also, do yourself a favor and just get a cheaper motherboard without SLI support.

Glass cases typically provide more noise insulation than plastic or metal ones.

Doesn't have HT

It's shit

Also why does this sound like it came from a prebuild website, they just fuckin scam you.

>i7 with 1060 and only 8gb of RAM
>only 1tb hdd
>no ssd
can't fool me you faggot this shit is a fucking prebuild pc

It's not. I don't trust Amazon Jews to ship me a functional pre-built PC, especially not at such low prices

Get a SSD. Just do it.

Unless you're intendng to SLI, why the fuck did you get a SLI motherboard? You could save a significant amount of money if you were to take a simpler mobo. Get an SSD for that money saved.

Will do. Thanks, user

Get Ryzen 1600 with B350 motherboard and 16gb 3200mhz ram, best bang for buck CPU on the market at the moment. No idea about GPU since prices are fucked

I would go with a Ryzen 5 1600 and OC it with 16 gigs of 2800/3066/3200 Gskill Flare X RAM and a GTX1060 if you are gaming at 1080p. This is currently the best thing you could get for the money.

The Ryzen 5's are god tier because they are cut down Ryzen 7's but the massive 16MB cache is all still intact. Avoid intels Jewry at least until the 8th gen drops.

Also if you want quiet fans, go with Noctua brand. They are quiet as a whisper but of expensive

>pairing a 7700k with a weak card like a 1060

it's a very good pc, although pretty much overkill for your gaming needs.
processor is a beast, gpu is perfectly fine for 1080p 60fps(+). if you don't particularly need the processing power, scale down to an i5.
you can consider 16gb ram as well and maybe an ssd. some people really see those two as memes though, so you might find different opinions.

>Buying Kaby Lake with Coffee Lake about to be released

pls

this dude posted his shitty thread 3 times and then in other generals
HAHAHAHAHAH
how pathetic, cant you do your own research

Well, again, I'm not really informed on PC hardware. There's nothing wrong with getting advice from people who know more than I do

>1TB
My toaster has 2TB

Just pay someone to build one for you if you're this incompetent.

lmao retard. its called being proactive. do some fucking research dont let shit fall in your lap

>buying Intel
>buying a quadcore at the end of 2017
brainlet

Upgrade to a 1080Ti or 1080. Your 1060 is super weak considering you have an i7 and Z270 motherboard. I'd also at minimum double your system memory. It isn't 2011 anymore. My cellphone has 8GB of RAM

"CPU really makes a difference in video games"

Said literally no benchmark ever.

Get an SSD with that senpai, you might also want to wait for intel 8 series, or get ryzen.
Or pinnacle

1Tb SSD, nice

yes?
that's why i'm saying a cheaper AMD cpu with more cores on a socket that won't be obsoleted in 5 months is a better choice all around

>tfw memers on Sup Forums told me my build would be fine for the 1080
fucking bottleneck sucks

>buying AMD
>2017 the year of our lord
Why would you gimp yourself intentionally user?

damn how is it so cold

I have a 1060 it's great for 1080p. Get a 1070 if you'll be playing newer games for the next few years in 1080p but the 1060 still performs well for new games. Do not get the 3gb version. 16gb of ram is fine (i still have 8gb and don't use it all) but an i7 is overkill unless you're really into cpu intensive games

enjoy it dying in 4 years

>damn how is it so cold
This is actually quite hot for my system, because it is still 105F outside daily. During the winter they are much lower. I have everything under water.

>wanting your mobo to be obsolete within a year

you should buy the new processors coming in october from intel (8000 series) buying a i7-7700K is a mistake

>enjoy it dying in 4 years
My last system was a 3770k and it still functions flawlessly. I have it as a dedicated media server in my livingroom now. Streams to all devices in my house.
>wanting your mobo to be obsolete within a year
When you buy Intel you don't have to upgrade your processor every year becaues it takes AMD 5-10 years to catch up to Intel performance. I'm set for 5 years minimum without the need to buy a new processor, so the socket literally doesn't matter. I'm sorry this is such a foreign concept to people who buy a seriously inferior product to save 5 or 10 bux and have to upgrade frequently to compensate.

Aside from people telling you this is a bottleneck, how exactly has it affected you negatively though? I have an i5 2500 and it barely gets pushed much except for a new game rarely

If anything I'd feel more silly about running your gpu at anything close to 60hertz and 1080p. That's just a waste

>Aside from people telling you this is a bottleneck, how exactly has it affected you negatively though? I have an i5 2500 and it barely gets pushed much except for a new game rarely
Not him but when you game at 1080p you expose a bottleneck on the CPU. If you are at 1440p or higher, you are pushing the GPU so hard that you don't see a bottlneck (1-2% variance). While at 1080p or lower you'll see SIGNIFICANT variance, like 20-40%. SEE:

No one has told me this is a bottleneck though. It actually is. I booted up witcher 3 because I wanted to see how it'd look on max (hairworks off of course) and it didn't want to go past 50 fps. I also get a lot frame drops during intense explosions/firefights in Just Cause 3 and Dishonored 2 just runs really bad overall.

>Monster Hunter World will probably recommend a 1070.

Not if it's on PS4/X1 too.

This is Capcom, the biggest whore there is with the best whore engine there is

Next line of CPU's and motherboards are coming October 5th. Don't buy a PC right now.

>Buy new PC
>have to use Win10

>have to
???

SSD are not worth it unless they are cheap.

If you're a gamer you'll want to use Windows 10, it has DirectX 12, which is what the industry will adopt whether you like it or not. And Windows 7 security support ends in less than 2 years.

You can still get 10 for free through the accessibility page. It would be stupid to wait and have to pay or install a "pirate" version loaded with bitcoin miners.

SSDs are really affordable these days so they're always worth it.

>he doesn't know
From Skylake onwards you're literally unable to install pre-10 Windows versions

SSDs are cheap though.
HDDs are cheaper but that doesn't mean SSDs aren't cheap.

God I hate MS
So why not install some linux distro?

If you are worried about noise I believe Gigabyte cards are the most silent.

>1060
Just no. Go for at least a 1080 better a 1080ti
>7700k
Price CPU < GPU and i5 or ryzen 1600 is great for gaming. No huge difference between the i7
>Fans
Dont waste money on buying extra fans your case should have enough of them
>HDD
Dont just get a hard drive buy an sdd that your os will go onto and get an sshd instead of a hdd, only a bit more expensive.

I have this pretty much and get 144fps at ultra settings 1440p in pretty much every single game.

>From Skylake onwards you're literally unable to install pre-10 Windows versions
Not just this but all NVMe drives (literally every SSD since two years ago) don't work in Windows 7. You can kinda force them to, but you'll be prone to BSODs constantly. Most companies have ended shoehorned hotfixes. Maybe Samsung might still have some, but they are provided As-Is with no support

Not them but they'll likely rec a 1070 anyway. If you play a lot of newer pc games it's easy to see the upcoming blanket recommendation trend for 2018

Because linux library is still but a fraction of Windows and its GPU drivers suck dick.

>So why not install some linux distro?
Are you building a PC to play games or fuck around in Terminal and think about playing games? Because that is a dumbass question.

>1080 or 1080ti
I really don't need that much power at all. Again, the games I play aren't exactly top of the range graphically in most cases

That's insane that you're getting 50fps on witcher, that's about what I get on ultra too, with a 1060 and that i5 2500. What about overclocking it?

Well they will last you a lot longer but a 1070 is perfect for 1080p maxed out.
I only say 1080ti since I decided to go up to 1440p 144hz.
GPU is the biggest variable in gaming anyways so its down to what you want.

he literally said he wanted a 1060 and you said "No. Just no."

The GPU or the CPU? I might need to do some further testing too. I remember just cause 3 running like shit too in the beginning and one day it just magically worked fine. (other than firefights)

Yes paired with a i7 completly stupid since the CPU costs more that a 1060. Hell even an i5 7600k costs more.
For gaming as I said CPU < GPU price wise is a good rule to run by.

The cpu, you have the K after all. You'd just want a proper cooling solution and to make sure your mobo is good to do it. I wouldn't focus too much on just cause 3 as it was well known to be fairly badly optimized. I can see Sup Forums tards saying to stick with your cpu for gaming. If anyone mentioned a bottleneck they'd just say if you actually experience one then overclock it into oblivion. It really should make a difference though. If not maybe sell the cpu and get something better. If you were to do that, you might as well start from scratch and get almost everything new but keep the 1080 so you can get newer ram as well

Yeah well there's the problem. My shitty mobo doesn't allow overclocking.

I agree that the i7 is overkill but this is not how you worded it, you said "get at least a 1080" and implied that anything less is worthless.

Now I see that, sucks no voltage support. Well if you were so inclined to put the work in, simply getting a mobo with overclocking would be the cheapest way to go to solve the issue

If I were in your shoes though I'd likely want to sell everything but the 1080 and start over

Might do that but I think I'd rather get some money together to upgrade everything. Except the GPU of course.

Get 16GB RAM and an SSD to put your OS and most frequently played games on.

I have a 6700k and R9 390 and it can still handle any game on max at 1080p.

>Might do that but I think I'd rather get some money together to upgrade everything. Except the GPU of course.
>If I were in your shoes though I'd likely want to sell everything but the 1080 and start over
>Now I see that, sucks no voltage support. Well if you were so inclined to put the work in, simply getting a mobo with overclocking would be the cheapest way to go to solve the issue
>Yeah well there's the problem. My shitty mobo doesn't allow overclocking.
I'm actually parting out and selling my old system's components right now. My P8Z77-V PRO will be on eBay by this weekend, likely for only 75USD. It is in great condition and even has an automated overclocking tool which is very handy.

go ask Sup Forums then once they get mad and tell you to fuck off back here then we will have an answer UUUU

That's a good deal, but I don't live in the states senpai

>That's a good deal, but I don't live in the states senpai
I usually offer international shipping options (non-free) to my ebay stuff. But that's a shame. Even have the original box/pin saver cap & documentation.

Really appreciate it man but I think I'd rather do a full upgrade next year when pinnacle rolls around.

>Really appreciate it man but I think I'd rather do a full upgrade next year when pinnacle rolls around.
Yeah probably the best idea. My stuff will sell regardless. Just figured I'd point it out.

PC spec lists are often fucking garbage and just conjectures by the devs or publishers.

Yup

You're seriously dumb if you think world is gonna require a 1070.

Then use 7 for those 2 years then downgrade to 8.1 with classic shell until 2023 or whenever long term support ends for that.

You're seriously dumb for thinking anyone was talking about requirements. Idiot
