Final Thoughts on MGSV?

I still think this is one of the best games this gen.

Weakest game in the series, imo

its the best until you start using decoys making the game break itself

fucking awful
like I would have stuck around regardless of the quality of the story but I was sooooooooo bored

Gameplay: Good/Solid
Story: Weak

all the side stuff ruined the pacing, would have been much better just playing like the classic mgs

>one of the best games this gen.
I disagree. it was one of the biggest disappointments of this gen.
I don't know what the reason is, but it really felt like a great game that was absolutely gutted.

>gameplay: solid
>story: liquid

i'm so sorry, I had to

Lack of story for a series that is historically filled with story. Doesn’t help that open world does NOTHING for this game’s gameplay mechanics. This should’ve been made like Peace Walker was with an emphasis on building your base and soldiers but with strung together closed levels

one user got a kick out of your post, that's for sure.

It's still solid, not bad for Kojima's last MGS ride. Needs more cut-scenes tho and less Konami interference.

the only thing I disagree with is taking a pointer from PW.

Mechanically very impressive, but the story and characters are absolutely fucking retarded. Hacking is rampant on PC too, which severely diminishes the experience. Having some bigger come into your base and take all your shit when you're offline is gay as fuck.

A wasted opportunity. Whoever made the engine is a genius. The rest of it is garbage.

Put 200 hours into it. One of the best action games of all time. Story was garbage like every other metal gear game.

who made the game?

Because the engine is so different from Chrome engine

I legitimately think that if kojima had been able to totally finish the game, it would have been widely lauded as a masterpiece and the crown jewel of the franchise.

this

If it had been finished, 10/10. But it wasn't finished and that fact was painfully obvious, the final act of the game was a complete disaster.

nope

>letting out the full turd instead of holding in a little bit of it in would have made it the crown jewel of the franchise

much better lighting

I wish Konami would take the Unreal Engine approach and license it out on the cheap with royalties.

Fantastic game bogged down by second act and the fact that it's unfinished.

>muh story

mechanically the game is polished af. Just because one mission got cut early on doesn't mean it's unfinished

>imo

Portable ops is the weakest followed by Peace Walker, even considering most of portable ops got retconned

nope, 4 is worse than both those games.

PW probably has the best story in the series, too

Explain the empty ass open world

Initial impressions were excellent but as soon as you find Sehelanthropus it all starts to fall apart from there. The story is piss poor compared to every other numbered title and it lacks any memorable moments. The gameplay and engine are excellent but the tasks you undertake in the game range from good to boring because the open world design brings it down a lot. I genuinely agree with people who say GZ is better than TPP because the map is great despite its size and if TPP was filled with nothing but bases on the scale of GZ's it would be such a better game.

PW missions are repetitive as shit and the boss fights are somehow even worse than MGS5, and then you have to fucking farm them to see the real ending

It's trash

It's a desert.

It's full of bases to infiltrate and the rest of the open space is used in main and side ops.

Still better than 4 and with a great story

5s unfinished trash is more compelling than the tripe anime bullshit peacewalker did

eh

Eh, it's okay. It's better than Peace Walker, so I'll give it that.

Hah, I'd play 4 over PW anyday

Great gameplay
Boring boss fights if you can even call them bosses
Missions were repetitive
Level design was boring and world was empty

???????
Are you sure you meant to put in that first one with those three after?

I don’t understand the Peace Walker hate. It’s my most played game in the series at like 150 hours

t. brainlet

I would have preferred the story of peace walker with the gameplay of phantom pain over either actual games
but I do like peace walker for what it is desu

He means gameplay mechanics obviously.

Took too much from Peacewalker. Solid 7 out of 10. I still feel like 1 and 2 are the best in the series overall

MGSV had a lot of potential. The gameplay is wasted on empty under designed levels. You can infiltrate an empty under-populated desert from any angle!

Great gameplay with a better story than people give it credit for. Can get repetitive, and doesn't do as much with its open world as it could.

It's just as empty as previous MGS games and/or other third person shooters especially the open world ones. This is not an RPG.

Doesn't make it any less boring
if you don't know how to utilize the open world properly, don't try having one

The only positive thing I can say about the story is that the cutscene direction is masterful and makes me hopeful for Death Stranding

You'd rather the areas load one by one like previous MGS games?

Also some of the VO's, or rather, just Robin Atkin Downes and maybe a few of Keith's lines, really bring their A game. It's a same troy baker is fucking boring in it

Gameplay was good. Spending 50% of the game flying in the helicopter just kills all of my enjoyment though.

I always felt Chris Randolph was on autopilot since MGS1, but he was really fucking good as Huey in TPP.

That's not the only other alternative, you fucking clod

Yeah. Skullface is ruined by the "WHOOOOOOOO" and the jeep ride.

Why on Earth did the make Tory do that texas accent when Ocelot never put on a cowboy accent before or after?

Not bad, better than 4 and PW at least.

Excellent game that laid a great foundation for a better sequel or expansion that will sadly never come.

still, one of the best stealth games I've ever played and a highlight of its long-running series, and of this generation.

>portable ops is bad just because it's most non-canon

that statement is true, and just goes to proves just how low the bar has been lowered since the ps2 glory days

If they had a prototype rex and prototype nanomachines instead of that laughably bad metal gear and parasites i would have loved it even without chapter 3 but its pretty bad as is

bitch most of the game is completely nonsensical, it has better missions than portable ops though

Good game
Great timesink
Mediocre MGS game
Great soundtrack
Shame about the cut chico thing and the ending

Because that's not the real Ocelot

The entire thing takes place in a VR

A Peace Walker remake with Phantom Pain's gameplay would be the best game in the franchise.

Fuck I want this

Agreed, even though none of the levels really interested me I probably would have put up with it if there wasn't so much downtime

fucking no lmao
you have such bad taste

I want to Fulton a dino

Definitely. Weakest numbered entry in the series by a wide margin.

>Actual living breathing Motherbase filled with zany stuff like Bigi Boss and Kaz wrestling naked iin the showers, a japanese style culture festival and Soccer games on the R&D deck, complete with Big Boss as goalkeeper and Huey as the ref
>Much nicer setting of tropical caribbean
>Actual fucking characters with lines and dialogue
>Driving Zeke around on an open world

Why was Phantom Pain so shit? All they had to do was make PW, but bigger and with good gameplay

I think you mean a Philanthropy Game between MGS1 and 2

4 was definitely worse and it has the best gameplay of the series

>Objectively better than MGS4 and MGSV
>It's the actual legit MGS5, right down to having an actual plot, while MGSV is just PW's spin-off
>Most content out of any game in the franchise

Peace Walker is the best game in the entire series after MGS3, 2 and 1

Did the animals roam the base and ocelot pointing at you ever make it into the final game?
MB was always way too steril and everyone always did the same shit and walked hte same routes. You have all these animals and possible interactions and shit but you just see a few of them in a cage Having NPC walk around or randomly show up would've been nice too

Potential 10/10
In reality 8/10 at best
Boring filler, meh story, great gameplay. Shame the series ended this way, but as with everything with the modern gaming industry I guess it was inevitable.

What's the plot and what's all that content?
Serious question cause i dropped it maybe 5 times already

Over rated, rinse and repeat gameplay, important parts cut from game, lackluster showdown with the main villain, multiplayer was terrible, no David Hayter, ruined by Konami

I still enjoyed bits of it tho

i think people missunderstand how the "open world" mechanic worked in MGSV.

the game works with a hub system right from the start, your base. from there you choose which missions to engage. each mission takes place somewhere on a very large, connected map. this allows you to choose from which direction you will approach your objective, or if you want to engage minor objectives on the way to your main objective.

for people to say mgsV is "open world" in the way skyrim is open world is simply ridiculous. but the "open map" of mgsV allows for varied gameplay. so yes, it DOES add to the gameplay of the game.

but then again, some user's didn't get to shoot black children and didn't get their grey fox/vulcan raven fanfictions in the game so they'll act booty blasted till the day they die.

I liked it enough to 100% the game.

All this time and money wasted, just to use it for PES now

Everyone should play it once. When I'm in the mood to play V there's nothing else like it. A tragic classic.

If I'd played this with infinite heaven, first full story, then side ops and then online I'd agree with you.

Nah, I think if another (real) MGS game were to come out it should have you playing as the boss

>Final Thoughts
You make this thread every week. It's a last gen game, made to run on outdated hardware and considerably watered down. I loved the first few hours, but as a whole it misses every mark.

/thread

It created and killed one of the best engines out there

4 had better gameplay, there was just too little of it. V actually removed a bunch of stuff that 4 allowed you to do. 4s story was also alot better even with all the nanomachine asspulls.

>needs more cut-scenes
i agree, but i also kind of like what kojima was trying to do with a whole "show don't tell" approach. didn't work out in the end, but it would've been cool if there were more things like paz in the medic room in the game

>you can approach a mission from any direction of this empty wasteland of a map
Simply jaw dropping and innovative as fuck my dude

>Did the animals roam the base and ocelot pointing at you ever make it into the final game?

Nope. But the drones will still tell you there was no lies or cut content.

Didn't read the thread.

>2017
>make daily final thoughts on mgsv thread
>a dozen butthurt fanboys start screeching
>"its the worst entry in the series dont even bother playing it fuck that hack kojima there is literally no story or boss fights"
>a dozen kojima fanboys jump in
>"just like with mgs2 all you people dont get it its the best part after mgs2 one day you will all be sorry"
>one random guy tries to enter with an actual thought-through post
>"i think it is a good game, the gameplay feels tight and fun, story gets messy especially in the second half, missions and boss fights are also repetitive but overall a fun experience"
>comment gets buried under dozens of retarded posts, ones defending it, others trying to shit as much as possible on it
>"After all these years, you still feel it, too. Don't you? The Phantom Pain"
>enter retarded weeabo kid

How accurate am I?

I loved GZ, TPP was great to play and some great moments, but was clearly cut short and they're not even hding it

Anyone still play MGO3? I was hoping to play it a little when MGSV goes on PS+ next month.

This was the originall concept of MGSV before he decided to do another Big Boss story

I think it might be the only MGS that i've not replayed right away and probably never will.
It wasn't horrible and is actually really fun to play, but whenever i think about going back there's all the cut shit attached to it

Good Engine and Solid gameplay for what's there.

But it should have not been the final MGS game, it ends with no real connection to the series creating several new unnecessary twist, even the MC turns out to be an Impostor while the Ending chapter was so questionable that they cut it entirely while still leaving it part of the canon for some reason.

If this was released as a Spirtual Sucessor to the series with no connection outside of certain gameplay elements like survive it would have been perfect but as it is it's a sour note for both MGS and the current State of Konami.

I played it on ps3 it was okay but the network is so shit and full of 3rd worlders it's just infuriating since bullets and shit have simulated drop and travel time it makes laggers much harder to deal with. It's not MGO2 but I had a blast with it for the first 5 months.

Chapter 1 was great. Chapter 2 felt more like tacted on post-game content more than anything. Really wish they made Mother Base feel more lived-in with recruits doing shit other than patrolling around and talking about whatever you just did. As it stands, it's not really worth exploring unless you really want those rough diamonds.

I was on PS3 too tried to go back and play it, boy is that shit a mess and the grabs from 10 feet away made me quit after a week. The lag was so bullshit it was unbearable, but It was still entertaining to play. Did they fix anything else besides the weapon progression?

well they made major tweaks to the damages for a lot of the guns. The UN-ARC (the scout semi-auto) rifle kills in a single headshot now so you can simulate mgo2 a little. They rebalaced the health, stealth and NVG a lot. I don't think the knife is exclusive anymore.
