What does Sup Forums think of Fume Knight?
Is he the best boss in the souls series? Is he the hardest boss? I've never played the DLC and I hated DAS2 yet I constantly hear about him

It suffers from the same problems as many other bosses in DaS2

Namely, the hitbox on that big sword is about twice the size of the actual sword model, and if you don't invest heavily into ADP it's virtually un-dodgeable

>T. Never even managed a 20 frame trick in any game, at 60fps.

>The one good boss in this shitty game
Now step aside kid.

You don't even need to dodge for this boss, the hitboxes are tight and perfect except for MAYBE the flame arc he does. Plenty of webms prove my point, sorry you suck at the game.

It's not that great a fight though, ivory king is better in every way

OP here. I forgot to mention that even tho Dark Souls is perhaps one of my favorite games of all time, I have yet to play DaS3. I've been waiting for all the DLC to come out and for it to go on sale.

What makes him a good boss? And is DaS3 actually good? Are spears viable in it? Spears are a favorite weapon of mine The 3 main complaints I hear in regards to DaS3 are, it's very linear, only straight swords are good and there is no poise.

>pic related. Its my build from DaS1

He's a really good Souls boss and my personal favorite. After a game full of sluggish enemies that only attack once or twice maximum, he's got proper strings and variations to his attacks and has some of the least apparent hitbox/rolling issues for any boss, plus a mechanic that burns you for rolling the wrong direction in his second phase. He was also confirmed to be the most dangerous boss in all of DaS2.
Him and Alonne require you to use the game's combat system well enough that it's as if their gameplay was designed for a different game entirely.

All weapons are viable, spears are fine but you trade increased range for less damage, and as you'd expect. Low poise is not a downside. Area progression is fairly linear, but every area is well designed.

Well... he raped my ass for an entire afternoon, but I felt like I was slowly getting better each time and ultimately felt really good after beating him as a result, so I guess he's a great boss? Probably.

There are probably one or two minor tweaks that could improve it, though.

The only boss in the game I couldn't beat by myself, reminded me that 2 is just easy and I never got gud.

Really like fighting this boss, it's fun to go for no hit fights against him

He was pretty fun, kicked my ass a couple of times before I won.

He isn't even the best boss in the game. He probably is the hardest though, and in the top 3 hardest of any boss in the series.

Dark souls 2 DLC probably has the hardest bosses in the entire series if you line them up.Fume Knight, Blue smelter demon (or the atrocious walk over there), Sir Alonne, Sinh, Elana, fucking Lud and Zallen. While not all of them might be considered the hardest, this is an impressive list of difficult bosses

It's just your average sword dude.
If you finished the base game and don't have any kind of brain damage you should know exactly how to deal with him just by the way he looks.
There's really nothing special about this boss.

The fuck you doing here, cunt?

>ivory king is better in every way
This I can agree with.

Ivory King and Alonne are both great in my opinion.

hey HEY he only beat him BEFORE Raime got his power up ok.

Velstadt is cool AF though

The souls series is full of casuals now. They think Midir is the hardest boss of all time.

Artorias is also a dude with a sword.
Is there nothing special about him either?

Let's have a look shall we:
Arthorias the Abysswalker: Design: 8.5/10 Difficulty: 7/10 Lore: 4.5/5 Moveset: 3.5/5 Final verdict: 23.5/30

Not bad i'd say. Definitely top 5 of the series

he's a trickster.
he baits you with an attack you think will come out fast and you roll too soon and get fucked, then he baits you with a fast combo, slow attack and then a fucking fast one.
this dude plays tricks with your mind and unlike all other ds bosses learning the pattern here isn't a good thing so you'll have to dodge based on your reaction and not
>lol i died a million times and managed to kill him once.....LOL GIT GUD SCRUBS

Well you done goofed, boy. I was waiting for the DLC to go on sale too, so that's why I bought it on sale when it was. You missed it, guy.
(I have PS4 and got it during bamco sale. No idea if it's gone on sale for other platforms)

That's not even the hardest DaS2 boss

Who is then?

I'd say they are a mixed bag of really well designed bosses and really shitty, gimmicky ones, so even if they're all hard, some are the "good" kind of hard and others are just bullshit.

>Blue smelter demon
I get it that defending aganist unavoidable magic damage is exponentialy more difficult than fire damage, but even then he became quite manageable once I figured the patterns out, but maybe that's because I used spears aganist him and that might have mitigated a bunch of damage. I like it a lot btw.

>Sir Alonne
I beat it first try, and I'm usualy bellow average in souls. I think that might be because he plays a lot like the Ivory King, so I came to the fight with a working tactic in mind. Or maybe I was just lucky.
Fucking amazing boss though. All the good aspects about Ivory King without the bullshit.

>Sinh
The thing about it is that corrisive weapon damage fucking DESTROYS light weight builds. Since I played as one of those, he probably ended up giving more trouble than it would otherwise warrant.
For that reason, I'd say he's not that tough a boss as much as the design in DaS2 favors heavy classes way too fucking much.

>fucking Lud and Zallen
FUCK THOSE FAGGOTS REEEEEEEEEE
I hate this garbage game so much.
Look what you've done to me!

Probably the boss I died the most at on my first playthrough of the game, but not as good as Sir Alonne, which was better in ever aspect except the garbage minilevel that leads up to it.

Not him but I think either that fuck ass double dire wolf section in the last DLC OR ancient dragon. I've never had the patience to do ancient dragon and I've only beaten the wovles with npc summons.

Lud and Zallen

the urge to put down the game and shitpost about it on Sup Forums instead

I meant tigers, panthers, whatever the fuck.

These guys.

Fucker you just reminded me I have only been through one DLC out of them all
I enjoy creating new characters and going straight with the covenant of + difficulty more than going deep in a single game

So did I.

However, I personally feel that Sir Alonne may suffer from some kind of memory leak bug, because the first time I fought him, his moveset was significantly smaller than other times I've fought him. And when he died, he just kind of ragdolled on the floor instead of committing sudoku.

I played on console btw

Yeah i guess that's a good pick.

Ancient dragon is actually really easy if you know what to do. First try on my second run

And I agree.
However, the Fume Knight also has an ok design with kudos for being very thematic, but still not being entirely original borrowing from the Black Knights concept.
He also has some major lore relevancy within the DLC, and not being just a nameless dude.
His fight is balls-crushingly hard, yet very satisfying, despite not being all that flashy outside of that "WTF he dropped the big sword and moves fast now!" moment, basicaly being a Darknut in a souls game.

Personaly it would be hard for me to put him on top 5, but top 10 is very likely.

Ancient dragon isn't particularly difficult if you just get down the timing of his insta-kill attack and there are plenty of cheesy strategies. I'm certain it took me less than 10 tries whereas some of the other ones like Fume Knight or Lud and Zallen were probably close to 50.

>Is he the best boss in the souls series?
No, that title belongs to Sir Alone or Ivory King.
Hell, even Sinh is there. The Ds2 DLC bosses are so fucking good.

Let's have a look at him too

Fume Knight: Design: 7/10 Difficulty: 9/10 Lore: 3/5 Attack creativity: 3.5/5 22.5/30

Not far behind

Fun fact about ancient dragon: The "epicenter" of his fire breath glows red before hitting, so you know where to run from, or if you are using that big flame shield, where to block towards.

Don't put Ivory King in there unless you activated the knights. 1 vs 1 he isn't hard at all. Agree on Alone and Sinh.

* unless you didn't activate any knights

I played on PC, and a decent one at that.
If that was the case for you then the fight probably didn't do the boss justice because one of the cool things about it is exactly how far he can reach, which punishes you from being too defensive.

Figuring how to dodge his broad atacks while taking a position viable for counter-atacking at the same time made this one of the best fights in the entire series imo.
I almost wish I didn't beat him first try.

50 fucking tries?
I haven't even reached 10 with any boss

A boss fight is more than being hard. The whose knight setup and starting battle feels really cool and fresh. I dont know why From doesnt try more of those different fights

only if you leave the ash idols up then maybe

>reminder that if Raime didn't 1-shot with any attack (at least the AOE and the wide slow swipe) in his second phase you were probably overleveled.

Sorry I thought you said hardest.

I'd rank him like this:
Burnt Ivory King: Design: 6.5/10 Difficulty: 7.5/10 Lore: 3.5/5 Moveset: 2.5/5 Final Verdict: 20/30

Not in the top 10 desu

Yeah, I'm not great at games. Actually 50 might be over-estimating, but not by a whole lot. Managed to get through all of them solo eventually, but there were a number of bosses in 2 and 3 that I had to spend like 3-4 hours on.

>Lore: 3.5/5
Thats where your wrong.
Ivory King is the only person in the whole fucking setting that did something right and non-retarded

He's an objectively good bossfight, you never hear anyone complaining about it for good reason.

Personal opinion. Because he did something right doesn't mean he's super involved

2Cat aren't that hard. The hard part is fighting the urge to drop the game during the run to their arena.

Not that guy, but he was disagreeing with your lore score you dumbass, why are you factoring in "involvement" in his backstory?

What did Nadalia do wrong?

They should fire whoever designed the run to the cats and blue smelter demon

He has my favorite sword so I like him.

Technically, i think nothing because she was too late to do anything. When she showed up to trick and usurp the iron king, he was already gone, depressed after his husbando Alonne left him.

I'm factoring in how much involvement they have in the story, how much information we receive, the connection to other NPC's or bosses or area's or the history

>falchion instead of the OP meat cleaver

Im not sure about when that image was made, because of the "?", but the dark sword on Ds3 is spot on.
Also Ds3 has the most abusable dodges of the entire fucking series.
Also bleed is broken as fuck in 3.

We're not sure if she showed up to trick the king. Either out of genuine affection or to simply force his kingdom to crumble

I think only the ivory queen genuinely loved her husband, the other fragments of darkness were after power alone.

The first time i did this DLC i was in NG+ because i had just formatted my PC and only had one character who was already at level 100 or something. Fume Knight on NG+ was the hardest boss in the entire series for me. He has a comically large amount of HP and was 2-shotting me with any of his attacks. It took me precisely 38 tries to beat him solo

Big slow guy with a sword #87
Friede and Gael were harder. He's about as hard as False King Allant

There is poise now, it just functions like DS2's poise except better

Darklurker.

Elana wasn't fucking up her husband's kingdom

They were meant to fuck up the king by default, since they were maid out of darkness and yada yada.
Alsana just malfunctioned.

It's not like they set out with the express intention of ruining everything, they just followed their natures. In Nashandra's case, that involved ruining everything because she craved power and domination over all things. Alsanna didn't.

>They were meant to fuck up the king by default
To this day is baffles me how the SJWs didn't jump on this game like a bunch of hungry hyenas.
Specialy how you have to make things right by impaling the second one a bunch of times with a metal rod.

he's the most artificially difficult boss in the series

>Nashandra: Sith Lord who wants to enslave everyone
>Elana: RIP AND TEAR AND RIP AND TEAR AND
>Nadalia: Yandere who wants to envelop and possess her lover
>Alsanna: Just wants to be held
Is this accurate?

>Typical anime fight.
>Good.

This is a fight where you just need to learn to iframe properly.

I cant imagine Elana, the incarnation of Wrath, doing much better than nashandra in the long run.

>All those people who ragequit because Fume's 3 way-split damage blowing straight through any shield they could carry

>most artificially difficult boss in the series
>in a game where Royal Rat Authority exists
>in a game where Mytha exists
>in a game where Lud and Zallen exist
>in a series where Hellkite Dragon exists
>in a series where Bed of Chaos exists

>responding to bait

Hey! Alonne was fucking amazing exactly because it played as those generic 1hit crossing blades fights in pretty much every anime in existance.
The novelty is how well it was translated here.

Hellkite dragon isn't a boss
royal rat is just plain easy
bed of chaos can barely even be considered a boss fight
dont remember who the others from that mediocre game are

Don't give these idiots that much credit.
Fume Knight is THE one boss that everyone cries about every time about how hard it was. He is basicaly the Ormstein and Smough of DaS2.

Alsanna did more than follow her nature.
She was a fragment of the feeling of fear. She was frail and fearful.
And yet she sworn to ward off the unstoppable chaos alone for all her life for her husband.
The Ivory D was that powerful.

Because few to none of them play games and the ones that do don't pay attention to the barest mention of story if its not shoved in their faces with a cut scene.

he's only hard because of his broken hitboxes and absurd hp/dmg/def numbers ie artificial difficulty

Fume is more like the Manus or Artorias of DaS2, since he's DLC. The O&S of DaS2 was obviously intended by the designers to be Throne Watcher/Defender, but they implemented it poorly.

>cool af
he only does 2 attacks for 85% of the fight

The worst part is their souls are practically useless, so there is no reason to even bother fighting them. Especially because you already tested you ability to defeat one in the other tiger boss fight in that DLC.

He's easily in the top three for From's entire catalogue.

>Nadalia
Didn't she show up to the iron kingdom long after it had fallen? If the iron king had still been alive when she got there she'd probably have been like Alsanna

If Velstadt had more life and maybe some kind of heal, he'd be one of the best fights in DS2. He's actually a really solid fight in NG+.

Nadalia is a bit clingier than Alsanna
youtube.com/watch?v=KKLJkzZDreU

He dies to Gold Pine Resin so fast, I'd hardly even count him as a boss. When he splits he basically kills himself since he takes double damage.

...

>tfw I first fought Manus on NG+5

It's a good thing he's easy because his boss "run" is torture.

Your situation is almost exactly like mine to the point where I wondered if I wrote that post or not.

The first and only time I ever fought the Fume night was on NG+ and it was easily the hardest boss in DS2 for me. Though I had such satisfaction after beating him. It's one of those bosses where you feel like you got better at the game for having beaten him.

Alonne doesn't ride a big retarded drake or fly around the stage like a character straight out of DBZ.

In terms of design and gameplay I agree with you.
But I'm talking about the reflex in the community as being the scapegoat for whining, which is specialy sad in a game with SO MUCH other legit points for complaint.

I do belive his stats could use a bit of a nerf specialy the damage in the first phase.
Either that or make him do less stability damage.

In his second phase, the atacks are so slow that it makes sense for them to do that much damage. It throws you off your rhythm but is ultimately quite manageable.
His HP would be perfectly fine if he couldn't crush you with one hit.

Other than that, I quite enjoyed how the forced you to adapt your rhythm, not only on his second, slower phase, but also to adapt to his huge reach.

My understanding was that the 4 queens represent different manifestations of the darkness in a person's soul (in dark's souls terminology).
Nashandra is weak and insecure so she tries to become powerful by deception and subterfuge.
Elana is power hungry for power's sake. The downfall of Shulma(?) is more or less entirely her fault and she did it all for personal gain.
Nadalia gets a way nicer general opinion than she deserves. She is motivated by greed and steals the remains of the Iron King's kingdom for herself. She resurrects the dead and forces them to serve her. She even manipulates a hopeless and downtrodden knight, recently banished from his own kingdom despite doing the right thing, to think that he has a chance with her.
Alsanna is the only nice one of them all. She is essentially the foil of Nashandra. Weak and fragile but so hopeless that she doesn't even try to amass power in the interest of self-preservation.

>The downfall of Shulma(?) is more or less entirely her fault and she did it all for personal gain.
Elana dindu nuffin Shulva fell because the Drakeblood Knights decided to fuck their shit up on day for the lulz

You're right, I misremembered. In that case I would say that Elana is consumed with rage since she focuses on amassing power for revenge rather than rebuilding the city.

Maybe Elana isn't so bad after all?
