It's the last Star Fox game ever getting released, so you better hope so.

It's alright but even in the AG build you can see why Nintendo decided to put out 64 instead. I am surprised by the final release existing though, either they had it sitting in some old jap building this whole time or they finished it for reals.

It's not implausible. The English NES Earthbound was finished and sitting around unreleased for ages as well.
But I guess that's a little different since the Jap version did get released.

You should already know the answer. It's been available to play for years now. The differences between the SNES Mini version and the Near Final Leak are minimal.

From what I've heard, the leaked ROMs are different from the final product significantly. Curious to see how true Cuthbert's statement regarding that is.

I'll just hope someone tosses the complete ROM up soon between the 7 SNES minis that exist.

SNES Mini - Near Final Proto - Near Final with AeonGenesis Translation.

They're not as different as you'd think. The most major changes in the game are that you can no longer lock-on Charged Shots, Miyu and Fay no longer start with Twin Blasters, and the end game results screen looks completely different. It's virtually identical otherwise, aside from obvious things like the translation and fonts.

Oh yes and I suppose another major difference would be that you cannot transform in space arenas anymore. In the Near Final leak, you could transform into a hovercraft of sorts. It controls terribly.
AeonGenesis removed that transformation with their translation, and changed the function of the Select button to instead change the camera while in space. In the SNES Mini version, pressing select just plays an error sound, presumably to tell you that you can't transform into the Walker in Space.

The hovercraft in the near final was believed to have been a bug caused by the game not checking if the level you were on actually had a floor to transform on, so it was actually a glitched out walker with nothing to walk on. AG fixed it by changing selects function and the snes mini clears it up completely.

That's not going to be worthwhile unless Nintendo provides GOOD models of Star Fox characters. So long as they insist on crappy puppets? It's not even worth entertaining any thought. That and with today's expectations for animal characters some fur rendering is expected. Say what you will, but Rare did wonders visually i nthat area for Star Fox Adventures.

You'll find it fairly quickly. Adding "2017" helped me. It's the real deal, new title screen and all. Page I found talked about a guy "testing" it on his actual SNES with some sort of ROM cart.

The game is partially randomized. Every time you start, Andross' forces will occupy different planets. In higher difficulties, you go through several "waves" where after you free all the planets, another attack will launch and more planets will be occupied, those will be random as well.
That's really about the extent of it. I wouldn't call it rogue-like at all, just a little randomization to keep additional playthroughs fresh.

The beta build is like that too. One of the head dev guys said he took a look at the fan translation and saw that it was missing a bunch of shit from the final version. If anything what I've played so far has shown that the BETA is superior, because it includes the ability to lock on with your charged shots.

It's amazing how good of a game Star Fox 2 is, especially with its randomized/rogue-lite esque elements. Choosing different pilots, and having different planets be available and different waves being sent by Andross.

It's miles above Star Fox 1, desu. Although I really wish they could've bumped the framerates up.

As someone who never played the beta, and this is my first experience with 2 I was curious if this was a full release. I mean I can't imagine Nintendo would put a half made ROM on there and tote it as their killer app, this thread cleared up some of my questions about that though.

If its anything like the beta rom, yes. Unless the final game used a special new SuperFX2 chip it should be possible to make a repro from one of the other SuperFX2 games.
