POOR LITTLE WHITE PLANE

Clue me in as to what VIDEO GAMES contain the king of speed, the supreme winged machine, the SR-71 blackbird

Black Ops

Wow the new Superion looks pretty cool.

What the fuck is that on the bottom right

I can't believe you unironically made a thread for this.

...

if shumps taught me anything it is to fear the small planes as they can single handedly destroy entire nations.

There is an FSX add on. Given it was only really used for recon and almost never was engaged, this is probably as good as it gets.

Ahhh thats right Black Ops 1.
Loved the intro to that sequence a ton.
I really liked BO1 a lot
Gonna go reinstall it.
Enjoy this here picture of dials and shit from the SR-71
Is the blackbird really in that? Huh. never would've guessed

Can't believe you unironically made a post for that

>You can take off from an aircraft carrier in an SR-71 armed with guns and a nuke
Too bad it's useless.
>Shitty maneuverability
>Nuke is the only weapon in the game that doesn't have regenerating ammo
>Nuke is actually not too strong

You fly an armed version in the European versions of Ace Combat 3

Ace combat 3 had a lesser blackbird you can earn

I can't remember the name of it, but one of those crazy scrolling Bullet Hell shooters where you control a plane had a titanic SR-71 as a boss.

>supreme winged machine
>isn't supermaneuverable
wew lad

V-TECH JUST FUCKING KICKED IN YO.

Why did the "bloat" the black one instead of having it pointy like the rest of them?

Superior edgejet coming through

I can't quite understand what you're trying to say but it probably has to do with airflow over the wing in ultra-high speeds.
Aerodynamics is funny like that.

Looks like a lot of pressure on the wings.

Very few since it has no armament

>WHOOP WHOOP STALL STALL WHOOP WHOOP STALL STALL

>forward swept wings
>superior
great joke user

How are you supposed to keep track of all the meters and switches when flying this?

Cluttered UI much ?

Pumb. Waiting on an answer to this. I wanna know what the fuck I'm looking at in that pic

x-plane is pretty cosy with it

they're just there to tell you have fucking fast you are flying and to monitor lesser pilots jealousy

The analog age was an unfortunate time. Keep in mind that even if you only need to see some reading or change some setting once it meant adding another gauge or switch.

Half of them are redundancy. In case one's electronics fail or it takes a bullet, you have a second.

Ace Combat 5 has you intercept a SR-71 in the first mission, but no flyable version in AC5 or Zero (you can shoot down an ace I believe)

HAWX (don't know about HAWX 2) does have the YF-12 which was an air-to-air missile armed variant of the A-12 OXCART which was developed into the SR-71.

I remember maxing out the speed with that plane and crossing the maps in just a few seconds. That was just so great.

Build a white one in KSP

N'Gen Racing IIRC.
PS1.

...

...

Also, this game had one of the best soundtracks of its time (subjective, obviously).

...

Probably an X-38 lifting body re-entry vehicle.

If something flies, chances are it already exists as a mod for IL-2 1946.

If you haven't read Sled Driver yet, you really should, it's a damn good book written by one of the SR-71 pilots.

F-16 Falcon makes me hard

I always like that story about the SR71 pilot and his radio guy getting a speed check from LA airport or something like that - basically one-upping all the lower flying aircraft in the area as a ground-speed-check-dick-swinging competition was going on.

These would make good band covers

I made an excellent recreation of the SR-71 in KSP once. Went fast as fuck, was pretty good at going long distances, etc. I built it to shit a kerbal out the bottom in a little ejection seat just behind the cockpit so I could investigate an anomaly one of my satellites detected in a mountain range, but I forgot to raise the chute activation altitude so the poor bastard wouldn't die. Then when I turned the plane around for the flight home it exploded. I think a wing buckled. Lesson learned, I guess.

>implying the king of speed isn't the F-15 Eagle

Join the USAF, work on these bad boys.

This one?
>I'll always remember a certain radio exchange that occurred one day as Walt and I were screaming across southern California 13 miles high. We were monitoring various radio transmissions from other aircraft as we entered Los Angeles Center's airspace. Though they didn't really control us, they did monitor our movement across their scope. I heard a Cessna ask for a readout of its groundspeed. "90 knots," Center replied. Moments later a Twin Beech required the same. "120 knots," Center answered. We weren't the only one proud of our speed that day as almost instantly an F-18 smugly transmitted, "Ah, Center, Dusty 52 requests groundspeed readout." There was a slight pause. "525 knots on the ground, Dusty." Another silent pause. As I was thinking to myself how ripe a situation this was, I heard the familiar click of a radio transmission coming from my back-seater. It was at that precise moment I realized Walt and I had become a real crew, for we were both thinking in unison. "Center, Aspen 20, you got a ground speed readout for us?" There was a longer than normal pause. "Aspen, I show one thousand seven hundred and forty-two knots." No further inquiries were heard on that frequency.

For what it's worth, source is in

Yeah, though there's longer versions on the internet.

I was about to add to but I checked in the PDF of the book, and the quote is correct. I think the story floating around the internet has some embellishments from various public speaking things the guy's done, plus the obvious internet hyperbole.

SR-71 is best plen, no other plen can compete

thats kind of frightening

this thing turns on a dime, macross zero style

Yeah, bottom line is it's a great story. The meat of the story is always the same.

>SR-71 is best plen, no other plen can compete
Agreed. Although I thoroughly enjoy the A-10 and the B52. And the B17. And the P51.
Man. Americans got the whole airforce thing right didn't they.

I can agree with that. I like the F117 as well, the B2 isn't too bad either. I think America in general just make pretty cool war machines and weapons in general. They put a high powered laser onto a 747 to shoot down missiles, and are currently testing a ship mounted Railgun for much the same reason.

>WARNING: PULL UP

>WARNING: PULL UP

...

The A10 is the best accessory you could mount to a gun.

Reminds me of this

It's pretty much what happened though. The engineers behind the GAU commissioned a couple of companies to make a plane for the beast and they settled on the A10 after some testing. The plane was literally made to be a transport for the gun.

A10 says hello.

Not so fast, grandpa.

You don't need to keep track of all of them all the time. The size of them and how close they are to the centre gives a good indication of how often you need them.

>Half of them are redundancy.
Actually, it's because you have two engines.

What's up with the orange fisher price joystick and throttle?

I think those are locked covers so you can't push any buttons on them.

>slavs actually bragged about stopping a single bombing run out of dozens and dozens of successful ones

and I thought yanks were full of themselves lmao

The SR-71 is cool as hell but it's one of the most impractical planes ever designed. It makes so many sacrifices to get that speed.

The Arkbird

>it took the Soviets 20 years to do stop the Blackbird
>the F-14 could do it 10 years earlier

>ONIIICHHAANN I'M GONNA BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

>not understanding how big that achievement is for a nation that was hopelessly outmatched in both manpower and technology

The buttons are that dangerous, huh? Even when the plane is off?

If i pull them off will you die?

What the shit IS that tiny white plane, anyways?

under-rated

it would be extremely planeful.

...

There needs to be more games with aircraft control. BF2 was great, but not enough.

Ace Combat 3

How fast are these planes going?

Fun fact: My dad used to work for a relatively small aviation firm called MEL, they branched out about a decade ago with some offshore manufacturing and distribution plants and set one up in Serbia.

The fun fact is that the factory in Serbia they chose was bombed by the RAF, the planes containing some minor flight parts from MEL. The Serbians are actually proud of the fact that they got bombed and found the whole thing hilarious.

Serbs are a strange folk.

It literally had one job, and it did it pretty damn well. When something better at that job came along, they retired it.
