Who was in the wrong here

who was in the wrong here

I see you too have been hit with the same YouTube algorithms.

I'd say no one, really. While they're all very different and none of them are my favorite they truly felt like their own controller rather than how all of them blend together now.

Both Sega and Sony. The N64 controller is still one of the best ever ergonomy wise. It's a shame the Sony scheme has been adopted by everyone.

Fucking end yourself, N64 controller is stupid as shit. There is a reason the playstation controller is the only one that survived.

Sega, obviously.
Saturn is the console name, not the shape of the fucking controller.

Anyone who actually ever used an n64 controller will tell you it was fine, except for mario party stigmata(which could happen with any controller)

The whole "wtf is this made for people with 3 hands" shit is just underage faggots.

sonys controller was best, i mean its almost the exactly the same today and most controllers after it sort of copied it

People with two digits IQ aren't welcome here, go away.

like who? microsoft copied sega and nintendo is doing their own thing

it's essentially a super nintendo controller with elongated handles. they revolutionized thumbsticks but the "chassis" isn't anything special.

This.
Only complaints that I do have about it is the uncomfortable analog stick.

I don't remember the analog sticks on Dualshock being concave.

>retards will say the 64 was shit even if it's objectively the best
>nobody had a saturn
>THE DS IS THE BEST THIS IS WHY WE'RE STILL USING IT
Here's your thread OP.

That's the Dual Analog controller, not the DualShock.

>tfw the anti dualshock meme was, is, and will forever be a meme perpetuated by turbofaggots and brainlets

>the truth is a meme
I can't wait for an antiretard law to get voted and for all people like you to get put in extermination camps.

N64 is the biggest sin
At least you could see where Sega and Sony were going. Nintendo just had the best controller last generation and now they pull this shit. I think the N64 controller was one of Nintendo's first fall from greatness since the Super Nintendo. They will continue to make several bad decisions for years to come.

>the N64 controller is good
I mean, I can't say I disagree with that antiretard law sentiment you got there, Retard-kun.

Either the N64 controller or the Saturn controller. N64 one requires more than 2 hands to use, and the Saturn's looks extremely tough to play with.

>all these kids who never handled the N64 gamepad
Every. Time.

>don't have an argument
>better attack you personally that'll show 'em

Why'd they shorten the grips?

Lettuce be real the n64 joy stick went to shit pretty quick

Old model was just long enough to keep my pinky fingers from curling up under the bottom of the controller. Much prefer the DS.

This is said by someone with large-ish (average? I have no concept of hands. I can only just palm a basketball so idk) hands who cradles the controller more near the tips of my fingers than the ham handed full grip I see used more with the 360 controller.

Sony for not having analog sticks on the default PS1 controller.

Leaf this place, child. You have to be 18 to post here.

The 2 that can't play FPS

The standard Saturn controller is GOAT for 2D games

But there's three of those in that image. And there's no mouse to be found anywhere.

I didn't like the N64 control and didn't ever use a Saturn outside of an emulator. Given the only surviving design from those 3 is the PlayStation one, I'm going up have to go with that one. It's a shit controller for anything released before it was, though.

It depends, really. With Golden eye you really didn't need the D-Pad iirc. You could use those C buttons instead, to strafe and look up and down.

the one with 4 face buttons instead of 6

loved n64 one when playing mario64 or goldeneye

PS1 for the worst "d-pad" ever created.

The D Pad on the 64 is pretty much never used. There is a trigger underneath the analog.

Nintendo had that vestigial d-pad and shoulder button, so...

Sony.

>hey let's just take our SNES rip off and add sticks where we have space

The n64 attempted to find the right way to add analog control while keeping a dpad incase 3D games failed.

Sega improved upon it setting the analog stick in a position that would make it the main left side control and the dpad a secondary.

Sony literally didn't know what the fuck to do except putting the sticks somewhere that would be cheap to manufacture so they wouldn't have to be creative and design something new. Yes it had two sticks which the others didnt, but twin sticks had been in arcades for years before that.

Just imagine having access to every single one of your buttons and sticks with no more than 200ms delay. Imagine having complete control over your game in a multitude of complex combinations. Truly the bane of interactive video amusement.

Nintendo and Sega. 3D games on a controller require 2 analogs. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Very few games then ever used the second stick, underaged.

underage

I'm 31 and I played Ape Escape when it came out (you know, the very game that demanded the Dual Shock). I also played Mario 64 when it came out and I didn't like using the C-buttons for controlling the camera because I could never find a camera angle I liked.

Because the C buttons are for a quick camera adjutment and not really for looking around.

The N64 was my first console, and I still found the controller to be retarded as fuck.

HAHAHA HOLY FUCK

Game "journalism" hasn't gotten much better, it seems

And those camera adjustments were always bad. Nintendo developed sense with Sunshine by letting the player completely control the camera, and then they completely fucked that up for four 3D Mario games until they finally fixed it with Odyssey.

>don't have any idea of what ergonomy is
>still try to talk about it

>he says this when people don't have 3 hands and SEGAs super fatass controller
must suck having 3 fat hands, fatso

>he says when X360's controller has the worst
this guy

>360
sorry sweaty

>Decently sized handles
>The handles are designed for your hands to grip on them in a perfectly natural and comfortable pose
>You can press all the buttons you need with natural movements
The N64 is objectively way ahead of the competition. I always find it funny that people are too dumb to realize that PS-styled controllers will never be good until they realize they should completely rethink the way the controls are positionned and/or stop thinking all the controls should be used at the same time.

Huh, didn't realize you were trolling. Have fun then.

There's a reason that 2 camera modes exist in Mario 64.

Give them a break, playing FPS on a console was and will always be shit.
Hard to predict which subpar control scheme will stick around if you've already experienced the perfect way to enjoy this kind of games with mouse and keyboard.

used to play Jazz Jackrabbit 2 demo with that hunk of junk, still loved it

Is the dualshock the ultimate conclusion of the gamepad?
Everyone just seems to be using that button configuration with just variations on the analog placement and some minor gimmicks, surely something will replace it no?

>stop thinking all the controls should be used at the same time.

Holy shit. Just admit that you're too fucking idiotic to handle more than a few choices of inputs at the same time. Go back to Super Mario

Only thing that sega does wrong is not to include second analog. Shit feels great in hand otherwise.
Nintendo on the other hand, did everything wrong

Nice projection, retard.

...

That's up to Sony. The Playstation layout didn't become the norm because it was good but because Sony's consoles sold like crazy thanks to their games. As long as the console market exists, Sony will stay the leader so they will dictacte what the next evolution will be. Personnally, I think it won't evolve much before the consoles completely disappear.

>There's a reason that 2 camera modes exist in Mario 64.
And neither of them are good.

The floppy analog stick on the N64 was a piece of shit, fuck that thing seriously
Cheap pile of crap

Never understood how people could have that kind of problem. I guess hamhandling is a real thing for some people.

>The N64 controller is still one of the best ever ergonomy wise
t. alien

I beat Mario 64 with no problem. Git gud.

No, the Wii U Pro is the pinnacle.

People only copy the dual bottom sticks because of the popularity of the playstation brand and not because it's actually ergonomic or correct.

The revised Saturn pad is the pinnacle of 2d controllers
The 360 controller is the pinnacle of modern controllers
/Thread

It was because the stick got thinner as it got closer to the controller so it felt cheap right out of the box, and it was also on a very small axel with space enough around it to allow it to wiggle around
The rest of the controller was fine, but that joystick man...

Sega. That thing's atrocious.

I'm pretty confident Nintendo's idea was that they wanted to push the analog stick, but didn't know if it was a good idea, so they kept the d-pad so that if the analog stick turned out to be a disaster, they could fall back to the dpad and ignore the center prong.

sony just saw Nintendo's success with the N64's analog stick, realised it was the future and made the dualshock by shoehorning analog sticks and rumble motors into their SNES controller ripoff and then kept it for 20 years, seemingly too afraid to change so now they're stuck with it.

He's right though, playing an FPS with a controller is a truly terrifying thought. I think I'd rather kill myself.

>360
No.

>there are so many people who never even tried pic related that they'll never understand the messiah of controller came and went

Bernie Stolar.

The Dualshock was the only controller out of the three that was designed with human hands in mind.

So people comparing their penis sizes to it didn't feel as bad.

but actually to save production costs and charge the consumer more

>thing i don't like is trolling
the state of this guy

Yeah it was revolutionary, but the first generation. Analog sticks have come a long way.

At least the placement of it is good, I can't understand why sony insists on keeping the same placement. It's like the analog sticks are still an afterthought and not the primary inputs in video games.

Nobody. I actually liked all three. The normal Saturn pad was great for fightan and the 3D pad was confortable.

This. ps1 games designed for the original controller have the worst controls.

When Mario 64 came out, Nintendo was taking a lot of risks. 3D platformers hadn't been done before, the analog stick was brand new and untested and it was probably the first game made for the N64. The fact that it's an amazing game and still holds up to this day is a feat of luck, great game design, good developers and a lot of talented people. I'm not going to argue that Mario 64's camera controls aren't terrible by modern day standards, but for back then, they were totally forgiveable.

The one that doesn't even have a passing resemblance to a modern gamepad.

Good job posting the ugliest saturn controller possible, the original had the best dpad of all time.

Goddamn this is a fucking great controller.
>Comfortable design
>personally I think the best stick placement
>undeniably best dpad
>bluetooth
>rechargeable battery
>80 hour battery life

The only actual downsides that I found were
>digital triggers (which only matters for racing games when you think about it)
>no official PC drivers (3rd party stuff works fine, but pretty hacky)
>power button and home button not merged

All things considered, it's fucking excellent. The Switch Pro Controller is a worthy successor though

>There are so many people who never tried Wii U Pro Controller
Those people literally don't know what they missed out on. It's so fucking good.

>It was because the stick got thinner as it got closer to the controller so it felt cheap right out of the box, and it was also on a very small axel with space enough around it to allow it to wiggle around
Yet nobody I know experienced that.
>3 hands
If that's not trolling then you're a real retard. Whatever you choose.

Oh and glossy paint job is a fingerprint magnet, but aside from those, it's GOAT

We did have 3d platformers just not popular ones before mario

t. idiot

Is anyone gonna tell him that this was actually the first game to use this control set up on a controller?

>And those camera adjustments were always bad
No, you were simply bad at using them. Mario 64 had a very good camera system that, when used right, offered more liberty AND better visibility than the recent 3D Mario games. The issue was that it was the early 3D days and people weren't used to control the character AND the camera and normies couldn't keep up with the progress. As for people discovering the game today, normies are used to modern camera controls so they don't really get how to use the Mario 64 ones neither.

>who was in the wrong here
Obviously Nintendo. No one has 3 hands.

showed me, that's why nintendo's brought back the design since then, right?

>he thinks the best product is the one that sticks
This a board for 18+, kiddo

That's Jupiter though...

This N64 controller was fine and NOBODY bitched about it back then.

Yeah just like how no one complained about goldeneye but look at it now it's horrible it plays bad it's controls are complete shit and it doesn't hold up

Dualshock>n64>weird ufo shit

yeah, because nobody was bitching about anything back then. People used to enjoy games unlike now

>Sega improved upon it setting the analog stick in a position that would make it the main left side control and the dpad a secondary.
Fuck you. This was not an improvement and was completely fucking retarded.

Sony did it right with both analog sticks being fucking below.
Having the D-Pad be below is fucking garbage and unacceptable for playing 2D games.

>Playing Jazz 2 with anything other than a keyboard(Arrow Keys + WASD for actions)
Off yourself.
