What am I in for?

...

Good game, sadly the online is a graveyard. Pick Royal for easy mode. Let me know when you start so I can fire up my twink to invade you.

The real Demon's Souls starts here

not the same without the online. its fun though

I think it's on sale on PSN right now.
Is it worth it?
Like, is it a "definitive Souls experience"?

Just emulate on your pc. It's insane how much consoles limitations held back a generation of games where the HD remasters are just enabling higher render resolution.

A pretty great game with a couple foibles here and there, but overall a great experience and my favorite Souls game

I just finished the game last week. It was really fun. I have the physical disc and the digital download version; both were worth it.

It's not in any way a definitive souls experience but it's a very unique experience. There aren't many other games like it, not even the other souls games.

Wasn't there a part in this where you are summoned as the level's boss for another player? Does this even happen anymore and why hasn't this been done since?

Okay, so like, if I've never played a Souls game, would this be the one?

I do want to play Bloodborne, one day. But as far as "classics" it would be between DS or DeS. I have no interest in DS2 or 3 because I can tell by gameplay videos how cheesed they are.
But I've heard DeS is nowhere near as mechanically broken as DS.

Yes. Play a royal knight mage shitter if you have low self-esteem.

Lol. I pity you. Framerate is inferior to PS3. Don't bother with this twit. I'd love to see how bad swamp gets on PC.

The fuck are you talking about no one could emulate this in 4K in 2010. This game looked incredible for the time

It has by far the best atmosphere of the Souls games, especially Latria and the Valley of Defilement

Demon's is a lot rougher around the edges than Dark 1, but it still has a lot of charm. Definitely has some busted mechanics though

As far as 2 and 3 go, 2 feels the wonkiest out of all of them but also has the most content and honestly isn't as god-awful as people make it out to be, it's far from perfect but it's still a fun game and the DLCs more than make up of some of the lackluster base game content. 3 I'm on the fence about, it's maybe the most polished of any of the games but it kinda lacks a certain heart the others had, maybe I was just burnt out on Souls when I played it but it just didn't feel the same

It's the opposite; if anything Demon's is much more broken than Dark. As to your question, yes it is worth it. The atmosphere is very oppressive and sets the tone perfectly. Definitely play Dark after you beat it, then Bloodborne.

Okay so DeS, the DS, then BB? Fuck the rest?

I never -really- wanted to play any of them, because having bosses that auto-track the player during windup isn't good game design. It isn't hard. It's bullshit and absolutely dribbles at the mouth of being unpolished and fundamentally broken...

>Yes. Play a royal knight mage shitter if you have low self-esteem.
what?

Oh I forgot to add, even though hadn't been interested in them, I sorta feel like I owe it to myself to actually play one, just because.

>I have no interest in DS2 or 3 because I can tell by gameplay videos how cheesed they are

What are you on about? I think you're confused. If you're going into this series just so you can say you've played one you're missing the point and you won't last very long. So don't bother

Just go play a normie open world game you won't appreciate DS

Royal knight starting class can wreck the game just past the tutorial stage if you pick up a certain sword. It also has easy mode spells. It is the training wheels class. Only play it if you want to have an easier time at the early game and hell that shield spell can cost you the entire playthrough. It's unreal how good it is, so choose it if you want the easiest experience.

Oh boy here we go.

So what is the point? To be hard? To be hardcore? Is it atmosphere? Bragging rights? I genuinely don't understand, and that's why I want to give it a shot now. Just because I have valid criticisms towards some of the design choices the developers made, you instantly want to start in on dismissing me? Way to convince me to play your game.

Now, let's be serious. Because I'm being serious, and am in no way trying to shit up a thread like you two.

I'm not looking for an "easy" experience. "Hard" doesn't bother me. But is playing it in spite of some of the more obvious bullshit still worth it?

And to be clear, "yes, because the atmosphere and world building is pretty top notch" is an acceptable answer.

And if that's the case, should I go for DeS primarily?

You can down everything in the game with royal knight starting spell if just just upgrade intelligence stat. Atmosphere is the perfect game to play in fall weather, it's moody and nails it over dark souls 1 and 2. Gameplay can be unbalanced by classes and some late end spells. Performance is great on PS3, dark souls 2 started the bad performance meme, not demons souls. Game is 40 hours if you're good, 60 if you have trouble. Pyromancy wrecked dark souls 1, miracles wrecked dark souls 2, and royal knight destroyed demons souls. That's what I mean, it not actually bad just recommended against since it trivializes the difficulty.

Okay cool. Thanks user.
On that note, how bad is the boss fuckery in DeS, because I know that's really more of a DS thing, at least where I'm coming from.

The games are an immersive experience

Not him, but if you like DeS and DS, you probably will enjoy DS2 and DS3 as well. Probably it is worth it to try out the series before discounting certain iterations.

Yes in the final Latria stage, it was quite fun to invade people as the boss of the level. They sort of used this mechanic in DS2 with the mirror knight actually, although you fight as an invader alongside the mirror knight in that level if I remember correctly. I don't recall it happening in DS, BB, or DS3 though, which is a shame since it's a cool mechanic.

I am meaning to play the one to hook me, so to speak, to get the best idea of what it has to offer, before pursuing more of it. So I don't mean to discount it. I know I said I'm not interested in it, which isn't entirely untrue. It's more like, just hit me with your best shot, and if I really like it, then I'll go for the others eventually.

Gimmick fights. Lots of environmental boss encounters than the arena 1on1 mindset of dark souls trilogy. There are a few wake up bosses, but the main highlight are environment traps, mid bosses, and dealing with tons of hazards getting to bosses. It's very atmospheric due to these things, no inter connected world but it does a lot more since each area can be radically different without needing to maintain assets consistency or affect performance since it's a single world with sub levels stage design.

That sounds pretty baller, conceptually. I love when environments play into, uh, gameplay.

Not to many spinning bosses, then?

Not sure what you mean by spinning bosses. DeS has some great bosses, some of which have gimmicks, some not. In any case, DeS is much more about the level design, atmosphere, and exploration.

I'm mostly kidding, btw. I'm def gonna play DeS nows. Sounds like a fairly tight experience, all told.
I will die a little inside though if a boss raises his weapon and starts spinning in place as I run around him.
Oh gimmicks I'm fine with. It's bullshit, cheap programming like that^^ that just takes me out of the experience.

Ahh if you mean tracking from bosses or enemies in their attack animations, that's really more of a problem with DS2. The other games don't have that from what I recall.

Yeah, that bullshit autotracking. Who's brilliant idea was that anyway? It's one thing to be hard, it's another thing entirely to go for unfair from the getgo.

So only DS2 has that problem? Or at least blatantly? Then I really might have to play both 1 and 3 regardless. Thanks, user.

Well in DS2 they took the "prepare to die" meme too seriously and as a result had some bullshit mechanics. It's still a good game and worth playing if you end up enjoying the series, but it's by no means the first game in the series you should play. I started with DeS at its release and loved it, played the hell out of it, then did the same when DS came out. DeS does have some non-intuitive mechanics to get certain events to trigger though, based on a system called "world tendency". Would be worth it to look that up at some point in your playthrough if you want to get certain weapons/items that you otherwise can't obtain.

Okay cool. Thanks, user.

The games are all about atmosphere, about exploring unknown areas full of dangers cautiously and mastering not the combat but the world you are in.

For that flavor DaS is probably the best. It is all subjective though.

The Early Access Beta version of Dark Souls

Kino.

Yeah I love shit like that. That's why I unironically enjoy BotW.

But your vote is Dark Souls, not Demon Souls. I'm going to assume because of the contiguous world design?

I bought this recently too
Are there any tips i should be aware of?

Look up what world tendency is.

>2010
>720p
>incredible

Demons Souls did look quite nice for the time, although I feel that was more due to its art direction than its poly count.
