Fallout 1 and 2 have the "best" combat in the series
Fallout 3 is the worst in the series, not Fallout 4, because of the fact level geometry will block your attacks and you'll stupidly die from it.
Fallout New Vegas is good, but it's pretty overrated by people who want to act high and mighty for not liking Fallout 3 and 4 even though a lot of these people won't touch or talk about the originals.
People overblow the humor in Fallout 2 out of proportion, people act like Fallout 2 is as quirky as Undertale or Portal 2 but it doesn't have that much more gags than Fallout 1 or NV. Fallout 2 has plenty of serious stuff in it.
The series doesn't really give me a 50's vibe apart from Fallout 3 and some isolated areas in some games
>Fallout 3 is the worst in the series I disagree, Fallout 3 at least has some memorable moments, locations, quests, and outside of the main plot there is actually some semblance of an RPG where you can make your choices and be your own character. Fallout 4 has nicer visuals and tighter shooting mechanics but I consider it worse than Fallout 3 in every other regard, and the worst game in the series.
Gabriel Carter
Fallout really needs to drop the "post apocalyptic" shtick. After 200 years, hearing people talk about it is just weird.
Andrew Torres
Agreed
Luke Torres
Dunno about unpopular since I agree with it but this is definitely factual. I need more CRPGs with Fallout 1 & 2 combat, any suggestions(other than Wasteland 2 and Underrail)?
I remember fallout 3's quests as well, I remember it because I hated them so much I still get mad thinking bout some of the side quests writing this post I cant remember a single fucking thing about fallout 4 quests though, and would call that an improvement
My opinion is that fallout 3's attempt at being an RPG was so shit that fallout 4's lack of attempt is superior
Tyler Green
I'll check out that Fallout Ressurection thing. thanks. I've finished Shadowrun but haven't done any of the DLC content. Which one is the best?
Lucas Allen
Fallout NV isn't good. It's a slight improvement on the shitpile that was 3. The only enjoyable thing about it was that it was a direct sequel to the original (i.e. the only genuine) Fallout games.
This.

>level geomety in Fallout 3
The is probably the most underrated argument against this game. I've never seen a game with worse level and world geometry. Extremely unfun to explore.
Kevin Price
This guy knows what's up.
Lucas Diaz
That's literally Fallout's identity though. The only complaint I can see for this is that the games don't accurately depict 200 years of decay. In Fallout 3 there's still tons of wooden houses and damaged buildings standing. Most of the major settlements are makeshift or heavily modified additions to destroyed buildings. So obviously they got that right but there's still suburbs of cheap wooden houses standing and inhabitable. The only town I can really recall that is mostly devastated is Springvale. Every other small town is full of intact but unaccessible houses. I remember reading that Fallout 3 was supposed to take place only 30 or 40 years after the war but they changed it. Not sure how much truth to that there is but it would make more sense for the amount of damage or lack thereof.

>find a rat >wait 5 minutes for rat to attack you >equip gun >wait 5 minutes to shoot the rat >repeat several times
what a great combat system!
James Sanchez
>Not using a melee character with bloody mess and stabbing the rats until you get a critical hit
Dominic Allen
> find a rat > press left mouse button > continue pressing left mouse button for at least 25m >sometimes move the mouse >repeat for each rat I'm sorry now I realize F3 was truly a masterpiece, we're sorry we compared it to F1/2 Give me a turn based RPG any time over a reskin of Oblivion with guns

>The series doesn't really give me a 50's vibe apart from Fallout 3 F4 is pretty much "LEL 50s everywhere!" trash. Aside certain weapons design (mostly energy ones) and a literal handful of references, all the way up to F3 there is not a sign of 50s. In fact, it more feels like before bombs fell there was a fad for 50s rather than 50s never ending.
Wyatt Reyes
That's just a problem with Bethesda games. In F1, 2 and Tactics, it's just a background. Something that happend LOOONG time ago and is slowly fading into obscurity for everyone. In F1, 80 years after the bombs, world just starts to recover. Another two generations later in F2, world is pretty much restored locally and starts getting on track regionally. By Tactics, California is pretty much restored and the post-apo part is present there in a sense of "we live after nuclear holocaust" rather than "we live in shacks made of rubble". But the plot happens in Midwest, so you are putting order in completely new region. And then F3 rolls in, which would make a perfect sense story and setting wise if it was set around the same time as F1. Instead, it's 200 years after the bombs. NV intentionally screws things up to have more of post-apo, rather than getting over it. F4 picks the idiot ball even more and puts the plot another couple of years later, while everything feels like the bombs fell last April.
Thomas Foster
iirc originally fallout 3 was going to be 20 years after the bombs fell
Kevin Brooks
Wasteland 1.
And I'm not kidding. I know this game might be older than you, but it's really that fucking good as people meme it up.
I was sure we are posting opinions here, not facts. The game really does live up to the tactical part of the subtitle. I just wish the first mission wasn't this bad.
Eli Campbell
And it would work perfectly for it. Seriously. Hell, the only way I could cope myself with how idiotic it felt in F3 and F4 was head-canon that I'm playing gamse that are set respectively 50 and 15 years after the bombs and your son just ages rapidly due to cryo experiment. It makes those games less retarded by a half and it's a simple year change.
Aiden Barnes
>People overblow the humor in Fallout 2 out of proportion I never understood what's the problem with this. The jokes are few and in between, they aren't really that crazy or unfitting and the handful of pop-culture references are more toned down than those from original Fallout. I mean not counting the pilot in BH mine and the Abbey (present only in Restoration Project), it's all perfectly fine, so what the hell?
Charles Collins
I feel like that would've also fit better in why the Capital Wasteland isn't at all tribal like the west. I feel like the only reason they chose to make it 200 years instead of 20 is so they'd be able to have the Brotherhood and Enclave be the main factions because Bethesda can't come up with anything decent Fallout related on their own.
Luke Price
I don't understand why the plots in Bethesda games are so bad. I mean, I understand having a bad writer, but Bethesda's plots make your average sjw fanfic on tumblr look good by comparison. Is there even an original faction, or settlement in Fallout 3 beyond Megaton and Rivet City? I don't remember, half of the plot in Fallout 3 is just trying to find your dad but without what made it good in the original Fallouts (exploring smaller conflicts in the wasteland)
Elder Scrolls isn't much better as it's always been very tolkien
Jaxon Perry
>new faction in FO3
Eh, maybe if you count the Commonwealth. I don't recall (though that doesn't mean anything by itself) any mention of them in FO1 or 2. There's also the "raiders" from the Pitt DLC (which is the only good part of FO3, though Point Lookout was a fun excursion).
Dylan Gomez
With mainline Fallout combat it's really whether you prefer bad turn-based combat (with good animations) or bad first-person combat. At least until 4, which I did not play.
>I mean not counting the pilot in BH mine and the Abbey (present only in Restoration Project), it's all perfectly fine >Anna's ghost >Pinky and the Brain >talking plant who is rival with a talking radscorp >OMG THEY KILLED KENNY >pretty much the entirety of San-Fran
Justin Martinez
... but that's exactly what I'm talking about. Those things are perfectly fine and yet get everyone triggered. The only REALLY wacky shit is the pilot and Abbey. And abbey is directly ripped from Canticle for Leibowitz, word by word. Seriously, you had a problem with San-Fran being combo of Scientologists and BTiLC? I found it a perfect match.
Evan Richardson
I've never really been a big Elder Scrolls fan but from what I've played I came to the conclusion that the only thing Bethesda is really good at is world building. Most or my time spent is Fallout 3 has just been exploring, doing side quests and finding random unmarked quests. That's where I have the most fun with the game. The one thing i think that Bethesda did better than Obsidian in Fallout is their wasteland. If Obsidian had more time they probably could have made a more fleshed out and complete wasteland. In NV most of the map is unused of unaccessible. Vegas itself and it's surrounding billboard wall take up a large chunk of the map when in reality it's only like Freeside and three blocks on the Strip. You can't really cross the Colorado river into Arizona so most of the right side of the map is unused and on the left side mountains take up allot of space. In comparison Fallout 3 has a complex metro system and many unimportant interiors that you may not even stumble upon.
Aiden Cooper
>>Anna's ghost ? ? ? It's a perfectly fine ghost story. Restoration project has few other ghosts and combo of shamanism and spiritualism was playing much bigger role in the first draft of the game. Eventually it got all cut down to Anna in the final game.
Asher Ortiz
2 > 4 > nv > 1 > 3
Ryan Rodriguez
... and all that meant zero manpower or even desire to fill the world with something. Both games are horrendous for exact same reason - they are empty. There is a lot of space wasted in NV, but both 3 and NV share the same emptieness.
Jose Brooks
>4 being 2nd best >Tactics not even present >Any of the Bethesda games above 1, 2 and Tactics
Dylan Williams
>literal ghosts are fine when Black Isle does that! Even Avellone admits they fucked up with the references in the Bible, but I guess he' wrong here.
>In NV most of the map is unused of unaccessible you know that the usable space of NV map is larger than the usable space of FO3 map right
Jeremiah Flores
4 is fun it's not really an RPG, but that's fine, since it's fun
Jackson Baker
>Those things are perfectly fine >Brain unapologetically being not just an easter egg, but an unmissable NPC that is behind literally everything in a very important plotline of not just one, but TWO cities (Gecko and Vault City), that is vital for their continued survival and getting the best ending for them is fine >the only dialogue option when meeting him being "so you are a rat that wants to conquer the world wink-wink nudge-nudge* is fine
Elijah Butler
>play Fallout Tactics >Stitch reaches end game >combat made playing FOnline much easier to get used to I enjoyed Fallout Tactics a lot despite not having the freedom of 1 and 2
Joseph Edwards
It was unfairly criticized for not being an RPG. It was fine for what it was, excellent, even.
Adrian Bell
At least in 3 the areas are filled with raiders, mutants or ghouls so exploring the empty blown out buildings is at least slightly interesting. New Vegas uses their world space in relation to the story better than 3 but I just find exploring the urban ruins in 3 more enjoyable than walking the Mojave desert. In 3 most of the areas are unrelated to the main quest and the enemies are just random hostile assholes so to me it feels more like a dangerous post-apocalypse. Another thing missing in New Vegas is random encounters. Those to me made exploring in Fallout 3 much more interesting because it's almost always different who or what's there when you go somewhere for the first time.
Ryder Roberts
>Using Avellone as a voice of anything than utter retard trampling over lore again and again and again It's like you want to make your point dismissed all by yourself
>I was 5 when F2 came out and I'm now triggered over jokes that I take more serious than I should.
Austin Allen
Considering you can literally ignore him and/or never learn he even exists and yet fulfill all quests in F2 and get all the shit done for Gecko anyway makes your complain a moot point and a clear confirmation you never really played through F2 that much to know basic stuff about it.
You don't even need Brain in RP, despite the quest with the village and mole rats attacks added and being pivotal quest for the Vault City area, just like Gecko is.
Gabriel Garcia
>Avellone as a voice of anything than utter retard trampling over lore again and again and again You mean, like he did in FO2? Actually, I only know he worked on New Reno and that was mostly free from the most inane bullshit. Probably my favorite Fallout area still, even if FO2 isn't my favorite Fallout anymore.
I really wonder what kind of mental gymnastics do you need to perform to justify loving FO2 but also hating Avellone.
>RP >using a mod as an argument when talking about the game
Lucas Walker
>Post about game >Point out even mods don't use an NPC >HURRR MOD INVALID DURRR It's like you can't fucking read.
The real issue of jokes in FO2 is how it never was an issue... until baby's first Fallout, FO3, came out and a lot of kids went to game that literally couldn't have appeal for them, as they were born a decade too late, but being millenials, they've instantly get triggered for FO2 not being serious. Get a clue, clowny - this series NEVER was serious.
Adam Morris
Nobody said that Fallout always was or should be serious, though. There's a difference between how Fallout 1 uses humor and how 2 bombards you with references. You have to be willingly blind to miss that.
Still waiting for you to explain how Avellone ruined Fallout when he contributed to unarguably the best content in FO2. Oh wait, I'm not. I don't even want to hear you trying to justify your retardation.
Caleb Smith
>Considering you can literally ignore him and/or never learn he even exists >jokes that I take more serious than I should Well, why don't you obsidiodrones never shut up about kid in the fridge in F4? You can ignore him too. Or Jet being a pre-war drug. Just a prank bro, don't it seriously. Just close your eyes and pretend this shit doesn't exist. But no, Avellone's dick is too delicious to stop sucking.
