What does Sup Forums think of Twin Snakes?
What does Sup Forums think of Twin Snakes?
It's not a weak point; it's a weakness!
Fun for a romp through after you've played the original. All of its flaws become glaringly apparent if you look at it closely
I'm probably in a weird position because it was my introduction to the series (minus playing the Japanese snippet on one of those PS1 demo discs), but I liked it. It was definitely pretty easy with the added FPS mode that trivialized a lot of the game, but I don't see the merit in the other usual complaints. The wacky cutscenes were fun and the voice acting was better
Better than the original, but the controller doesn't really fit it.
Would love a fox engine remake.
My sister and her kids have a modded Wii U courtesy of me, I was thinking of loading Twin Snakes on there for the oldest kid, is it an acceptable MGS game if they literally own no other platforms and not even a computer?
The gameplay improvement is really good, but the cutscenes and style of PS1 is great too.
AHHHH I CAN'T CHOOSE.
Feel more like a Metal Gear game then the original
If you hate your child, sure.
I dunno, I thought it was decent
my introduction to MGS was the fucking novel so who am I to judge
TTS is fucking trash compared to OG MGS1:
-You start with maximum HP and ammo cap, instead of "leveling up" after each boss fight.
-the new voice acting and soundtrack suck.
-the new localization sucks ass, and is pretty much direct Jap-to-English shit now.
-The MGS2 controls and moves, in unaltered MGS1 environments and enemy placements = the game becomes piss easy. The bossfights took the biggest hit, since you can now simply snipe them with your handgun.
-The added Dogtag collecting has no purpose at all, unlike in MGS2.
-The cutscenes are way too fucking crazy, being filled with 5 meter 360 double backflips and Matrix slowmotion. Oh, and tons of added "humor", which just ruins the characters and mood.
-And to be honest? The Twin Snakes also looks fugly. Everything's just gray and cyan now, ruining the cold and dark industrial mood the original has. And the 3D models look waxy.
>Playing MGS 1 for the first time
PS1
>Replaying MGS1
Twin Snakes
>-You start with maximum HP and ammo cap, instead of "leveling up" after each boss fight.
Shame, but minor.
>-the new voice acting and soundtrack suck.
That is a wrong opinion.
>-the new localization sucks ass, and is pretty much direct Jap-to-English shit now.
Yea, it's like MG1+2.
> The bossfights took the biggest hit, since you can now simply snipe them with your handgun.
But you don't have to? So that's a non-argument.
>-The added Dogtag collecting has no purpose at all
So it's not detrimental.
>-The cutscenes are way too fucking crazy
It's Metal Gear.
>-And to be honest? The Twin Snakes also looks fugly.
Everything on the PS1 looked fugly. TTS is an improvement. Even if waxy models were in vogue. At least they have faces.
The original was better.
>Shame, but minor.
it makes flying through the starting areas even more of a breeze, as you no longer go down with 2-3 shots.
>that's wrong
No, it's right. Both execution AND the new localization suck major ass. Also, no "Encounter" in OST = insta fail.
>You don't have to?
Who in their rightest of minds would NOT utilize the biggest improvement?? The game's just not balanced for the addition of FP-aiming, at all.
In general all those "don't like it? Don't use it!" '''''arguments''''' for so many modern games are just bullshit; there used to be a time when you did not have to disable half of game's functions and play a pretend just to make games tolerable.
>So it's not detrimental.
it's a waste of time, effort and resources.
Wasted opportunity, a false bait.
>It's Metal Gear
not an argument. All MGS games have had the fine balance of Snake being the "normal guy", going against various circus freaks and mechanical monstrosities, often coming out as the winner only because of his guts and skills.
TS throws this balance out of the window, and makes this legendary war hero act like an ADHD teenager.
>Everything on the PS1 looked fugly
I sure hope that one day you'll either learn to appreciate superior art-directing and -style, rather than starting at polycounts.
The cold and dark contrast visuals, that mimic the Yoji Shinkawa's promo art, fit MGS1 way better than the clinically clean and plasticy trash that was clearly just ripped from MGS2 without any thought.
>-the new voice acting and soundtrack suck.
At least the new soundtrack has more then two tracks
>At least the new soundtrack has more then two tracks
You've never even listened to MGS1's OST, have you? And at least I can recall ANY tunes from MGS1.
better than the original but faggots hate it because it's a gamecube exclusive. They also blame the game because of the "matrix" style cutscenes but they ignore the fact this shit is present in most games since sons of liberty because Kojimbo loves films.
>mgs2 engine
>much better voice acting
>gray fox doesn't sound like a nigga
>great cutscenes
>enemies don't dissapear
>harder overall.
If it had the original soundtrack it would have been better.
I have, and the only tunes I remember is the alarm music because it plays during the alarm and all the boss fights. The other track I remember is the best is yet to come because it plays during all the important story moments
Backflips and airplane whooshes : the game
It's best to think of it as Otacon retelling the events of MGS1 and not the real story as it happened.
>All of its flaws become glaringly apparent if you look at it closely
wow it's almost like any other video game
>silly cutscenes that's I'm sure have already been discussed
>horrible techno shit music
>half-assed new VA
>mgs2 gameplay really breaks the game and makes the game easy. Mgs1 was not meant to be built around those mechanics without being revamped
Some of the things that were wrong with this port.
...
It's okay. I played it once when it came out. I prefer the original.
>it makes flying through the starting areas even more of a breeze
When is MGS ever not?
>No, it's right.
Nope. Objectively wrong opinion. But yea, could have done with Encounter. But no tears were shed over the loss.
>Who in their rightest of minds would NOT utilize the biggest improvement?
Oh, you think it's an improvement?
>In general all those "don't like it? Don't use it!" '''''arguments''''' for so many modern games are just bullshit
Were you the kid who HAD to play Goldeneye with invincibility turned on? Because yea, that makes it a breeze, too. But you have only yourself to blame.
>it's a waste of time, effort and resources.
I'm sure it took them all of twenty minutes to implement. You just want to be upset at that point, since it affects you not at all.
>All MGS games have had the fine balance of Snake being the "normal guy",
He is literally the greatest soldier ever, cloned and genetically engineered from the previous greatest soldier ever. You can bet that if it weren't for the limitations of the PS1, Snake would be a lot more interesting in the original.
>I sure hope that one day you'll either learn to appreciate superior art-directing and -style
I have. Most stuff on the N64 excelled at that. PS1 stuff just didn't.
And remember, it was a functioning military base. Why would it look so shitty?
I like it, though I think both versions are worth playing. It really does visually look a lot better, looks like an MGS2 mod. Although for some reason they didn't re-animate the codec conversations (fine by me, I liked the 2D animations anyhow).
First-person mode is kind of an invalid complaint IMO because not only was it already added in the Japanese special edition of MGS on PS1, it's optional. Just don't use it if you think it makes the game too easy. How is that any different than committing to a no-kills run?
Only real complaint I have is the ridiculous moments they added to the cutscenes. Backflipping and catching/refiring a rocket back at the Hind is just absurd. Same with doing a side-flip over the doorway to the room that Ocelot and Liquid are inside of. It doesn't match the rest of the games - Snake was never that athletic previously or afterwards.
>that pic
I hate seeing someone with actual drawing ability wasting it on anime artsyles.
can't you emulate PS1 games on modded Wii U?
>airplane whooshes
That was far more annoying than any backflip.
>When is MGS ever not?
when you're not playing on Easy.
>Nope. Objectively wrong opinion
There's no such thing. And the overall audio presentation is plain out lazy, unmotivated, and even hilariously bad at times.
>you think it's an improvement
it's a misplaced improvement, that breaks the game. Slapping gameplay feats from sequels, without changing map-design, enemy behaviors, etc, was just idiotic.
>Were you the kid who HAD to play Goldeneye with invincibility turned on?
No, and I didn't even know it had such thing.
And yet that has nothing to do with the fact that Twin Snakes is just poorly put together, hastily done trash "remake".
>You just want to be upset at that point, since it affects you not at all.
There's a big difference implementing a feature that benefits player one way or another (like in MGS2), and having seemingly the same feature but with NO benefits or overall reasons to exist at all. It's the same as if you'd only get a pat on the head for collecting the Red coins in SM64.
>He is literally the greatest soldier ever, cloned and genetically engineered from the previous greatest soldier ever.
As seen in later games, tot even the greatest soldier ever moved like a motherfucking Cyborg Ninja, or thought about jump-kicking a running Metal Gear. The only reason TTS is like it is, is because the director was a big fan of Matrix at the time.
>Most stuff on the N64 excelled at that. PS1 stuff just didn't.
Jesus fuck, this delusion is totally off the chart!
>And remember, it was a functioning military base.
No, it's a nuke de-commission base. Partially run down one at that.
>why would it look so shitty?
you've clearly never been in the army.
>when you're not playing on Easy.
Git gud, scrub.
>There's no such thing.
I thought that too. Then i saw yours.
>it's a misplaced improvement, that breaks the game.
It would only break the game if it were mandatory. Big head mode never broke any game.
>No, and I didn't even know it had such thing.
Too young, eh? But the point is you're bitching about something optional.
>trash "remake".
Which is how Kojima wanted it.
>There's a big difference
Sure, but again, it matters not at all. You don't have to get them. They don't do anything to you, for you, or against you.
>As seen in later games
Earlier ones, actually. But again, limitations.
>The only reason TTS is like it is
-Is because Hideo told them to.
>Jesus fuck, this delusion is totally off the chart!
Rose tinted glasses are a helluva drug.
>No, it's a nuke de-commission base.
Yes. An operational one with R&D projects. That shit would be spotless.
>you've clearly never been in the army.
Not the American one. Does it not have respect for it's bases?
>Git gud, scrub.
I've done E.E. runs of all MGS games. What have (You) managed so far?
>pointless bullshit
>comparing unlockable cheats to main gameplay functions
welp
>too young, eh?
I'm 30. And again, unlockable cheats =/= main controls of the fucking game.
>how Kojima wanted it
He had practically no input in TTS. He just gave the team free hands.
>You don't have to get them
You don't have to do many things in many games as well, but seldom are any inclusion, especially collectibles, literally pointless waste of time. This function mimics something from the main-line games , but doesn't serve the same purpose as the originals did.
>Earlier ones, actually
nope. MGS3, PO-PW, and TPP.
Similarly, PS2 already removed most of the limitations, yet you don't move like a ninja, unless you're PLAYING as a Ninja. Take a wild guess why ?
>because Hideo told them to...
...do what THEY want. He himself was practically on vacation.
>Rose tinted glasses
Nice hypocrisy. I actually got N64 first and PS1 later, and besides the obvious benefit of AA + perspective correction + texture filters, most N64 games do look very dated and washed out compared to numerous PS1 games.
I also still play my favorites from both systems annually, unlike some who seem to literally live by their childhood memories alone.
>R&D projects
the facility is only a front for the MG development. The run-down nuke plant works as the mask.
>not the American one
me neither, and I know Army bases tend to be old as fuck.
Didn't this literally once existed, just to get Snake for Smash?
possible.
>I've done E.E. runs of all MGS games. What have (You) managed so far?
The same. Ergo pointing out how easy they are. Except for fucking Rev because PC controls are arse.
>comparing unlockable cheats to main gameplay functions
No, comparing optional functions. You're the one pretending they're different.
>He had practically no input in TTS.
He approved it. Read the interviews.
>but seldom are any inclusion, especially collectibles, literally pointless waste of time.
I mean, that's all games. Not sure why you're butthurt about the dogtags when they did nothing to you.
>nope. MGS3, PO-PW, and TPP.
What? I meant MG 1 and 2. Those ones are about Big Boss (and Venom).
> most N64 games do look very dated and washed out compared to numerous PS1 games.
The only thing PS1 games have going for them tends to be the pre-rendered stuff. Otherwise N64 projects were far more impressive with their limitations.
>the facility is only a front for the MG development. The run-down nuke plant works as the mask.
Yes, but it's still R&D. Haven't seen too many labs looking like post-outbreak Umbrella facilities. And a nuke disposal site is still going to be kept up to quite a code.
>and I know Army bases tend to be old as fuck.
Of course. Like Shadow Moses. But God help everyone there if so much as a spec of dirt is found.
REMASTER FUCKING WHEN?!
It's inexplicably worse than the original in every way, but especially the voice acting and Ocelot's fight.
>I sure hope that one day you'll either learn to appreciate superior art-directing and -style
This is actually my biggest issue with TTS. The game just looks kind of awful and bland.
>Your niece is one wacky babe.
That novel was one wacky book.
I want to say I liked it, but I don't think I'm allowed to
fucking garbage
Kojima kojima kojima kpjima kojima *snort* why so many plugs.for kojuma
FUCKING THIS
