The Switch is the comfiest way to play a lot of indies but most people have played the good ones on other platforms already.
At the moment people are just buying it for it's potential/the handful of great exclusives (even BOTW was available on Wii-u so people held off buying the Switch on release).
A lot are going to wait a while longer before going in on the console and they're justified in doing so really. I love it but it's still got a way to go.

Splatoon2 requires the stupid app and headset to foster any community whatsoever, and most kids didn't bother. if they sucked at online or got bored they were not going to remember it fondly the way we did with mario world or chrono trigger. BOTW is wide as an ocean shallow as a puddle. Unless you just want a "temperature / physics sandbox" with a final boss you can kill to trigger the credits once you get bored.

You should pass on that and get the Switch 4 with 6K 120hz HMD.
