As a huge fan of Baldur's Gate, PS:T, Icewind Dale etc. I really want to get pic related but I'm afraid I'll be disappointed. What does Sup Forums think of it?
As a huge fan of Baldur's Gate, PS:T, Icewind Dale etc...
You will be disappointed.
It's shit. Play it anyway
Even at the lowest difficulty the boss fight with Raedric is impossible. Got stuck there and can't advance.
Pretty PO'd.
>inb4 git gud in a fucking CRPG
Did Sawyer remove any cheese ways to proceed in game?
...
Please tell me how to defeat him then if its so easy. I have both my companions with me at full health and stacked with the best equipment I've found. I've done every quest in the first city then went to him.
Everytime the battle starts his dozen men surround us and instantly kill us simultaneously. Please tell me how I can just "git gud" after that.
You will be disappointed.
The setting and plot ranges from amazing to shitty, the combat is not fun, and some RPG aspects (like the dumb as fuck classes or the lack-luster magic system).
it depends on which raedric fight you're talking about
That is a pretty cheesy battle i must admit
position your group inside the room with his killed wife
make your tank shoot at the guardian and run back to the choke point
tank and spank them all at choke point
>As a huge fan of Baldur's Gate, PS:T, Icewind Dale etc
Don't.
The game tries its hardest to emulate those games without understanding what made them good. Starting with being unbalanced but fun.
it hardly gives off that magical feel of adventure like baldur's gate.
the setting itself feels bland to read about, the companions are not so memorable, the fights feels repetitive and the main plot doesn't really hook you up.
not to mention you literally get a castle at level 2 early in the game and already visit the biggest city in the area within an hour.
also too many pointless npc from the kickstarters which are literally OC chars spread everywhere in the game world that serve no purpose but reading shit long descriptions of themselves like a Sonic OC
i played baldur's gate 1 and 2 around 2014 and shit was my goty even if it's old as shit.
It's a good game but not a great one, the combat is too boring. So far it looks like the second game will be better. I'd recommend grabbing it on sale, like I said it's not bad but also not really mindblowing.
Are there any modern games in the same genre better than poe?
I left and got more party members. Unless your squad is already full, then I dunno what to tell you
As much as Sawyer memes about balance the classes in PoE are unbalanced as fuck, priests are basically mandatory and a lot of the options just suck.
If you're seriously frustrated then I recommend looking up some optimized builds and just making some custom adventurers from an Inn to deal with the boss.
PoE has some fucking garbage design choices anyways, don't play it on anything but the easy story mode unless you're a masochist
>>Tons of incredibly high stat requirement conversation checks even from level 1
>>Every class uses the same stat for damage, sawyer's autism about dump stats means you have to make characters unkillable tanks with pool noodles or glass cannons who fall over in a stiff breeze if you want to actually kill shit
>>harder difficulties apply across the board resistance and defense bonus to enemies and increase number of them but they still die to choke point spam
>>Combat does not give any XP but the entire game is about combat
>>constant random encounters with chore-like enemies who give neither loot nor XP as a reward
>>tendency for characters to act as WORDSWORDSWORDS infodumps and plot exposition tools rather than actual fucking people
>>expansive, intricate setting that there is no effort at all for you to actually fucking care about it.
It's like if someone sat down and started narrating one of the dozen Drizzt books to you with no prior context. Yeah, there's a lot there, but none of it fucking matters
...
Shadowrun Dragonfall is the only modern cRPG that I felt was enjoyable
What a brainless turd you are. Lmao.
>Update
- divinity original sin/2 if you like turn based combat-focused games
- underrail if you like fallout or fallout 2
- age of decadence if you like role playing/choice&consequence (but combat is not particularly good)
currently poe is the closest game to baldur's gate, and it is enjoyable as long as you don't expect it to be a bg clone/sequel
messed up the quote there
>age of decadence
Oh boy what a game. I still don't even know if I like it or not.
Is it worth $18?
So pirate it.
not everything worked well, but it took some risks, which is not common in modern rpgs
That's more or less what I think of it.
I want those guys to make another game to see if they can do it better.
>i played baldur's gate 1 and 2 around 2014 and shit was my goty even if it's old as shit
My nigga. I played only nwn back then and thought bg series doesn't hold up, I can't be more wrong.
>Starting with being unbalanced but fun.
retard
PoE is great. It's a good call back to the infinity engine games that were DEAD (need I remind everyone that we hadn't had a good crpg in the 10 years preceding PoE) and while it isn't as good as Baldur's Gate 2 (what is?) it's a lot better than Baldur's Gate.
The lore and the world of Eora is pretty interesting and one of my favourite parts of the game. It's refreshing to have an RPG setting that A) isn't Forgotten Realms and B) isn't shit like Divinity.
>>>Tons of incredibly high stat requirement conversation checks even from level 1
what's wrong with that? they exist for people who have dumped a ton of points into a particular stat. there's nothing wrong with that.
>>tendency for characters to act as WORDSWORDSWORDS infodumps and plot exposition tools rather than actual fucking people
heaven forbid a game that doesn't rely on a pre-existing setting has some kind of info on what that setting is. this isn't like baldur's gate where the world already existed in other mediums.
the world and story is infinitely more interesting than the world and story of baldur's gate 1
It's only hard because you are probably using those story NPCs and their stats are fucking awful for their respective classes.
Try to kite them away from the room and use potions and food.
This or Torment: Tides of Numenera? Or both?
As someone who has soloed BG2 with Tactics and Ascension, I can tell you that POE is nothing like BG2. PoE is actually a non-broken, challenging game, with actual roleplaying, where your character build decisions influence the ways in which you can complete quests. BG2 is a h&s shitfest that literally plays itself, if you have a mage in the party, while PoE on PotD will tear you a new one.
>isn't shit like Divinity.
it's like you're implying that poe's setting is anything but shit as well, just colourless shit instead of colourful one
>arguing with Edér
>PoE on PotD will tear you a new one
>he says this while tanking and spanking another generic group of mooks into the ground
I agree that they're easy, but you're trying way too hard.
PoE's tone isn't a fucking mess like Divinity and actually has some themes going on.
dumb anime poster
Is Baldur's Gate still viable without nostalgia? I loved Fallout 1/2 and liked PoE's gameplay (not the story though)
If yes is it worth the steam price?
wait for a steam sale. heck i have a PoE key but i can't really give it to anyone who would want it in this thread because i could end up sending it to the wrong email address.
I have playthroughs in easy (solo), hard and PotD and this is they way I've done that fight in everyone of them.
poe's tone is a consistent boredom fest, yes
and its theme is such a boring fedoracore garbage i honestly would prefer them to not open their mouth as otfen
Don't play it expecting it to blow other RPG's out of the water. It does things pretty differently to traditional DnD rules in an attempt to bring it up to more modern standards, e.g the endurance system, class system, etc... Whether it does this, is for you to think. I personally think it does it fine, though.
All that said, it took me about 100 hours to complete it, and I was playing that shit on normal. It gets very addictive.
>Fedoracore
This is how I know you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. Can you actually mutter a sentence without a single buzzword?
I started Expeditions: Viking today. Nobody ever talks about that game. What I understand it was a buggy mess at launch but they've managed to iron out most of the bad bugs. The 4 hours I've played so far has been comfy as fuck and the combat is "good enough". When I'm not playing it I really want to be so that's a good sign I guess.
I completely cheesed through it. Forgot exactly what happened but I'm pretty sure he hurt himself.
i'm sorry user, i just don't find the idea of the setting where some beings scientifically fucking confirmed that there's no gods so they decided to create them including a fucking Skaen who easily undermines their entire affair alone with his very existence very thought-provoking
this unfortunately. about the only thing in common with infinity engine games is the isometric/top-down perspective and some bare bones elements of character creation/progression. everything else is shit, and this is coming from someone who was hyped as fuck and still plays infinity engine games semi regularly.
He's talking about something else I think should have a full party by undead raedric
>Fedoracore
>Because god's don't exist in a fake, fantasy world
Also, what are you talking about?
big time. it's miles ahead of PoE and in my opinion much, much better than both FO games. play BG1 + xpac and then import character into BG2 + xpac. the games aesthetic and graphics hold up quite nicely today still, a lot of those prerendered backgrounds actually look pretty awesome, especially BG2.
he basically just said the game's atmosphere and story are shit, which they are. stop getting so hung up on semantics.
the very fact developers thought that science can ever be a valid tool of undermining faith is absolutely retarded, those things don't mix together no matter what fucking setting you are using
go and look at Automata of all fucking things that did a similar concept infinitely better
I didnt play baldurs gate but i cant tell you this game isnt that bad, i really enjoyed it and i dont even play this genere.
Just bear in mind that this game is just to play it once, because once you know where things are is pointless to keep playing,
Pirate it and if you like it buy it.
Kek i almost defeat him in the hardest dificulty with characters lvl 7-9...
I remember my assassin doing like 350 dmg with the rifle.
unfortunately the retarded devs had to ruin it with their politics
Get Divinity OS2 instead. So good.
No that's Shadowrun in general.
Fuck you guys, I liked Pillars of Eternity's gameplay AND story. Backed the second one without hesitation.
If you're not a jaded d&d nerd from RPG Codex you will love this gem
otherwise, you'll hate it because the mages are no longer op gods
>mages
>not op as shit in poe
retard alert
Same. But we tend to have threads where people hate it and threads where people love it. And these people rarely mix.
not as much as bg mages
I've played on potd multiple times with diffrent classes, mages are on pair with druids and ciphers
I like the game but it's a bit underwhelming, really hoping the second one will be a big step up.
I just want the second one, I'm in need of a good CRPG. March is so far away and it's probably gonna get delayed
oh please bitch, poe mages reach like 150-200 deflection, they are by far the most blatantly overpowered class in the entire game virtually invincible on potd and with a summoned weapon that can hit for retarded damage in aoe around its target, they are not bg-like squishies starting to job the moment protection from magic weapons falls off, they are invincible tanks
>they are by far the most blatantly overpowered class
Weren't fighters considered top in many meta discussions?
someone played the pirated, unpatched version
fighters need to decide whether they are a dps class or tanks first because currently they are somewhere between and nowhere nearly as good as other picks in both positions
i'm talking about 3.0, and dlcs actually buffed the shit out of mages by giving them a fucking shadowflame which becomes a per encounter spell in endgame
OK
still not the time stop prebuff kind of OP
With all the Updates and White march, it;s worth going through it.
Main Story is kinda garbage, most companions range from bad to meh and few quests actually benefit from various solutions and long lasting consequences, but overall world building and white march are nice to go through (with better designed encounters to boot).
As long as your party has one Wizard and one Priest, you can handle everything. Cyphers are fun
prebuff is not needed because at 20 dex you're casting buffs like a machinegun anyway and veil activates with no casting time whatsoever
we have druid storms instead which are equally retarded
the only real difference between bg mages and poe mages is that bg mages are a fun kind of broken and poe is a boring kind of broken
You're full of shit.
it's $15 on amazon right now for the complete edition
I don't see why you shouldn't pick it up
charm one of his guards
knockdown
focus raedric
clean up everyone else
there, took all of 2 minutes
...
I had fun with Pillars of Eternity and wasn't bored with it.
Recommend me a way to make combat fun instead of a snorefest.
Stop being a faggot. Shock therapy might work.
It's mediocre, the bad kind of mediocre.
