Shit animations. One female face in the whole game. Clunky combat. Most fun I've had in years. So typical Piranha Bytes rpg. I don't know why other companies didn't try to copy Gothic world design, it's so fucking good compared to shallow Ubisoft/Bethesda formula.

AAA games sold on the same premise that allowed mainstream media to have a hold on the masses.
Before the free flow of information, they were the only things you'd hear about through news and advertisements. Now we's passed the bursting point for social media and word of mouth carries worldwide. Word of mouth from a small group of memeing viral marketers who do it for free can reach far more people than even the biggest multi-million dollar advertising campaign.

The backlash towards celebrities and the media and AAA games are becoming mainstream simply because the new generations are connected to one another more than they are to the established outlets. The exchange of every individual's unfiltered thoughts now reach you faster and be more reliable than any ad or headline or "professional" review.

However janky ELEX is, it is a game with much more interesting content than those overhyped, overmarketed AAA games, and word of mouth will have that game getting a lot more attention. We've also passed the "indie" phase, most of the hipster millenial devs are gone, now we can see many more genuine passionate independent developers putting stuff out. AAA games are going to have to step the fuck up if they want to remain competitive.

You see that broken ass game? That game can still surprise you, that game can still take you places and let you fly.

Maybe those game aren't bad, but they feel boring and directed. Created for a market not because the people making it wanted to play them, but because they were made to be sold.

Is ELEX better than the Risen games? Because no amount of love for Gothic was enough to get me through those boring pieces of shit.

It's better than Risen 2 and Gothic 3 but I prefer Risen 1 and 3 over Elex.

It's a fun game but it's extremely flawed that even the most diehard PB fanboys will admit.

Also this. AAA became so expensive devs can't take risks anymore and shy away from making niche titles, making the remaining AAA games boring and samey. Publishers also have to milk customers like crazy to get ROI.

Yes. It does have all the typical PB flaws, but less so than their other most recent games. Still the best time I have had in mainstream vidya since Dark Souls 3.

This. AAA became too big for its own good and has its head too much up his own ass just like most of the media and the fucking "celebrities".

I think it is what Gothic 3 should have been, minus the setting of course. It's a lot better than Risen 2 and 3, about on par with Risen 1, but with much more content.

It's a legit 7/10 game once you understand the melee combo system, but it's not the second coming of anything really. Just a no excuses action RPG with an interesting premise and tons of content that's not steeped in modern AAA and SJW bullshit.
