I keep hearing that disgaea is a great SRPG even if you don't grind, but I found disgaea 1 to be extremely dull. Are the later games designed to reward the use of a balanced party and balanced so that you can place story maps only with no grinding?

They made the gameplay much better in later games, but they just made everything else too bloody silly.

Give them mage disciplines and have them learn attack spells.

Or just ignore them completely, have them gain levels from the occasional level bonus, or place them behind Laharl for team kills.

In late game they don't need to heal anyway, only do the occasional remove-poison spell from a distance. You just make Laharl learn Heal from them and he'll be able to heal himself full. He can then solo the rest of the game.

Leveling up thiefs is much harder, unless you make a fighter, max out their weapon stat, then transmigrate them to thief.

Every single unit can be made overpowered, you don't need any balance whatsoever, just use whatever you like with a healer here and there. Magic has obvious advantage of gigantic range but they need too much grinding at the start.

I understand that, but when it comes evilities, some unique units are clearly better than others. And even then, I see uniques as personalities out on the field; I'd really only use them because they either have an incredible unique skill or because I like their character. And then I come to this standstill where I dispatch too many units and I have to spend even more time grinding for the main-game when that shit should be saved for the post-game. Guess I'm just playing the game like a normal SRPG.

Alraunes have healing magic, wind magic, and monster specials built right in and can be used to magichange, while a healer either uses a bow and sacrifices healing power and range or has to be taught magic to be of any real use outside of heals. Granted some games they can learn death heal, which causes healing magic to damage instead of heal, which makes them very useful later when healing magic is considered to be worthless.

It was good fun. It was a lot more challenging, but don't worry, just let them equip some overleveled item and go to the Succubus and Nekomata level and just stack them all on that one tile were anyone can take damage and let them kill a level 2500 enemy at level 1. Easy Peasy leveling.

In regards to generic-unit evilities in D3, can a generic equip multiple evilities exclusive to their class or can you only pick one?
