Scott Cawthon used to make good games

Because i love playing shitty games i went and played "The Desolate Room" and " The Desolate Hope". Both games made by the creator of FNAF (scott Cawthon)
For my surprise, the games were weird as fuck but.....good....with an actual plot and everything

How the fuck do you go from making experimental but goods games, to fucking make FNAF?

Do you know any developers that started making decent games just to fuck up everything?

Good games don't always make you money.

The first FNAF was an okay indie horror game, its only problem was that it relied on jumpscares. The design of the animatronics in the first game were actually good, they were really uncanny.
And then he got greedy and started pumping out sequels to cash in

I know, but it's a shame to see a developer with potential wasted his life making shitty horror games

Is this another
>It was good before he got popular thread?

FNAF was a good game
it just got too popular and thats why Sup Forums hates it

I Actually really like Sister Location because you can see that Scott became self aware and tried to make something different

I also like the first one, but sister location is my personal favorite

Only the first was any good.
It all went downhill from there.

THE SOULDOZER
PRAY FOR PEACE

>that moment when you get an obscure game reference

>Those virus boss battles in The Desolate Hope
Can anybody explain what is happening?

Play the game if you haven't
It looks chaotic as fuck but the gameplay is actually good

I mean, if you spent all that time making good games, then whipped up a cheap Sega CD FMV horror game in a month for shits and giggles and it sold like hotcakes, wouldn't you crank out 3 more in rapid succession? It's easy money if there ever was.

Here's what went down
>guy wants to make some kind of dinky spooky game just for the fuck of it
>it ends up being more popular than all his other games combined
>cashes in on it by making only that game
I can hardly blame the guy, honestly. He did well for himself.

Yeah but, 4 games (5 if you count FNAF World) 2 books and (possibly) a movie is a little bit of an overkill

If you've ever played Mega Man X: Command Mission, it's like that mixed with that Flash game Multitask. It's pseudo-turn-based where your "turns" are performed in real time after a bar fills, which is based on a speed stat that your characters have. In this, you also get action points for each character that build over time, and the more of them you have, the better moves your character can access.

So the combat boils down to two things. The first is insane buff-stacking and team synergy to either shit out damage or perma-lockdown your enemies. The second is building enough to energy to start the minigames (they're the max action points minigame on each character) and keep them running for extra bonuses. I believe it's more action points or faster turns or something but I think it might vary per character. Game's hard as shit.

FNAF is an experiment but good game. The fanbase however is complete cancer and clouded your opinion of the game.

FNAF was a cool experiment that spiralled way out of control thanks to literal children watching big brother Pewdiepie/Markiplier make funny scream at big scawy animatronics.

>cash in
And Scott donated almost all of the money to charity, little to none went into his pocket.

>but it's a shame to see a developer with potential wasted his life making shitty horror games

What do you mean? He went from being on the verge of suicide over failing to accomplish anything with his talents, to becoming (probably) a millionaire.

oh fuck you
if you were virtually promised that the unwashed masses would idolize you and throw money at you for minimal effort you wouldn't hesitate for a goddamn second

you try and pay your bills with your sense of what's overkill and what isn't while the rest of us take any opportunity that knocks

>fnaf
>good

lmao

i think the total is about like $200,000 hes donated total.
6 games, tons of shit merch and waves of autistic kids add up way more than 200k.

>if you were virtually promised that the unwashed masses would idolize you and throw money at you for minimal effort you wouldn't hesitate for a goddamn second

Holy shit, this.

If I could find a market where I could sell a box of my own shit for $50,000 each, I'd be whistling as I buy laxatives in bulk.

>i will pretend to like this guys older games that i found out about after FNAF became popular

I guess i can't argue with that.
But still, i hope that once he gets tired of FNAF he goes back to make other projects.
I love some of his old stuff and i feel he could use his fame to promote any future game

Whatever happened to that movie? Will it still be made? I'd watch it tbqh

If I had made a shit load of games that made almost nothing before tripping upon a goldmine, I'd probably mine that shit too

If I was just some random and hit an unexpected goldmine that exploded in popularity, I'd milk it for as long as I possibly could too.

I think is still in development, but i haven't hear anything about it in a very long time

INTENSE INTENSITY INTENSIFIES

Too bad i couldn't finish the game, it was too much grind for me

That's the part that frustrates me, people are pooh-poohing a man for "selling out" when they would've never even heard of him if he "kept true" to his morals and slit his wrists out of sheer despair over not accomplishing anything with his life.

Is that what people wanted? Sure, cringe and critique the fans all you want, but don't try and tell me a single developer who turned his life around in almost an instant is a bad person for doing something with his ability.

I'm pretty sure Sister Location was his "alright let's mix things up a bit game". I'm sure he's filthy rich at this point so he can do things at his own pace now. Which means you'll probably wait a hell of a lot longer for new material, but at the same time, he can put love into it if he feels so inclined.

You are right on that.
I'm actually extremely curious to see his next game, the guy can make some weird stuff sometimes

It's still cashing in on a success, user.
