They used the excuse that they thought our parents should tell us about it, as if anyone would make the choice to not tell their kid, and as if ignorance of this event would somehow benefit the kid, and as if they wouldn't find out anyway.
All of that early Clone Wars media stuff certainly tricked me into thinking Star Wars prequel material was cool as a kid, and by the time the right side stuff happened I couldn't bring myself to care at all, so I guess left side.
