what games have you liked this year?

>Nioh
>Sonic Mania
>Ruiner
>The Evil Within 2

Out of what I've played, RE7, Yakuza 0, Breath Of The Wild and Persona 5

is .hack gu good if i've never played a .hack game or watched the animu?

Why is Hollow Knight an April Runner-up when it came out in February

I'm buying a PS4 on black friday but I wanna know how likely is Yakuza gonna get a PC port?

>all of this anime shit
I wish I didn't detest anime, seems like there's some good developers mixed in there.

Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, MvC and MK have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

This seems lacking
>July Runner Ups
FF12 remaster
Splatoon 2

>change Elex to Evil Within 2

None of the Yakuza games have gotten ported

This is alright but flip the winner and the runner up in all cases

These ones.

2017's been a good year

God I wish Metroid was Game of the Month
cupboy is def better

try prey

I bought it during the sale, I'm gonna start it tomorrow actually

Umm Excuse me hollow knight as the runner up what shit taste i've found

...

>no Samus Returns Black Friday sales yet
Amazon better deliver.

A lot of them
Act like Sir Bing Bing Wahoo is in here

GR2 shouldnt be there

even if it isn't good at least your opinion is original

I liked it

You spelled Yakuza wrong.

>Nioh instead of HZD

every single one of these threads are always fucked

idk first game was decent but people keep saying how 2 is such a huge improvement and i fail to see it.

>Night in the Woods
>Pyre
>Nier Automata
That's literally all the new releases I've played.

>HZD

the only thing fucked is your taste

Persona 5, Breath of the Wild, Nier Automata, Crash N'Sane Trilogy, Cuphead, Specter of Torment, Super Mario Odyssey, and Sonic Mania. Still need to play a lot of games, though.

I've only played two games on that list and I've only liked one, and that game was Sonic Mania.

How shit is my taste guys?

Yakuza 0/Kiwami, Injustice 2 and Crash N. Sane Trilogy are the releases I've played this year, I've enjoyed them all. Cuphead, Wolfenstein II and Tekken 7 are games I'd also like to give a try but right now I'm waiting on a sale to pick them up.
Super Mario Odyssey is another one but it's out of the question since I don't own a Switch.

it's okay

Prey
The Evil Within 2

Jesus, did really nothing better come out in May?

And then there's this fucking contrarian.

Template? I'm too lazy to edit shit out.

>no Nintendo trash

Looks good man

you're pretty good

you decide:
Prey
Injustice 2
Guilty Gear Xrd Rev.2
Friday the 13th

were some of the other games from may

>Yakuza 0
>Yakuza Kiwami
>Persona 5
>Gravity Rush 2
>2017
Are you fucking stupid?

are you?

Yakuza 0 is a fucking 2015 game. I'm not the stupid one

why doesn't the western release this year count
do remasters or remakes not count too?

A remake like Crash counts because it's built from the ground up. Remasters don't, and neither do localizations.

Are you retarded?
Those games were made available world wide this year and the PS4 is region locked, which mean you could only play them if you owned a Japanese PS4, know Japanese and owned a Japanese copy of the game.

Also Gravity Rush 2 came out all over the world at the same time.

>PS4 is region locked
no it isnt. none of the current consoles are region locked

The ps4 is not region locked at all. You're wrong. A quick Google and you could've avoided this.

i'm getting pretty tired of you people

GOTY based in countries that got a game localized that year should consider those localized games, it's not reasonable to expect them to have played them and given a goty chance otherwise.

Good list OP, honestly I thought Nier was a better game than Nioh but Nioh would be my runner up.

Wanted to like P5 more than I do. Going to restart that one again and give it another go. I justed assumed that would top my list.

Zelda has been the game I've played the most other than maybe MLB The Show, but that gets more hours every year.

You have to be fucking retarded when the majority or the world plays it it counts
You inbred idiot

One of my favorite game/anime series.

However, I played it when I was younger. I'm enjoying going through the games again (and some of the anime here and there), because I love the franchise and it brings back so many good memories (I played a fan made game of it for a while too) but I don't know if I'd recommend it to someone my age for the first time (mid twenties). If you're younger I think you might be able to enjoy it proper.

I think it's just hard to take some of the silliness of games seriously anymore, I think im growing out of games in general, though I still find some gems I love.

So because the rest of the world could read Mein Kampf when it was translated in whatever year, it could be that book of the year? Fucking no

Technically one Yakuza game is officially coming to PC. Its just a lame mobile game no one cares about.
Its a 3rd party SEGA title, so its not off the tables, but anything more than that as far as expectations though is hard to make since there's no real precedent for it for any non-mobile entries.

Literally yes.

Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage was one of my 2014 novels of the year, not 2013 because it was unavailable to me in 2013 as it wasn't translated.

If you're gonna be a sperg about it just say Persona 5 [English], because they are not the same game. One has different audio and different voice actors.

>Ever Oasis
>Danganronpa V3
>Blue Reflection
>.hack//GU Last Recode
Its bizarre. I went into this year thinking Nier Automata was going to be my GOTY but I didn't even enjoy it despite liking the original Nier. But all these other games I love.

You are so dumb. That doesn't make it a different fucking game moron. And I literally don't care about your favorite book.

You asked a question about a book, I put it in those terms.

And localisations can completely change a game.

Face it, you're just wrong.

Who cares about improvement when it's still fun and Kat is still cute

...

english mothafucka

....seriously dude? i like the first one but its a very flawed game

Did it change the gameplay?
The story?
No, just dialogue and voice actors. That's it. It's not a different game you absolute idiot.
Face it, you're just wrong.

>AC-kun strikes again

>read Shit and Plan to play as the same
I started to get unreasonably angry

> Tales of Berseria
> Nioh
> Persona 5
> FF12
That's all.

>gameplay
Often yes, bosses are cut or added in each region, such as in the kingdom hearts franchise.
>Story
Yes, take Final Fantasy VI as the best example, Japs viewed Kefka as some weird clown whereas westerners viewed him as a menacing villain, which changes the tone of the story
>all it changes are the dialog and VAs
Which can be hugely important. A bad translation can make a great game into a terrible one, or a mediocre game into a great one.

So you're wrong on all points.

and?

sorry I don't endlessly seek out flaws to hate games instead of just playing games I think are fun. I'm not saying all games are good, or that most games aren't shit even. just that it's possible to enjoy a flawed game, and if you don't think so then just stick to watching youtube "critics" or whatever. doesn't just apply to GR2 either, people say Nioh is conplete "dogshit" because of its enemy variety alone

In the cases of those games, none of those occur. Not one point. Which was my original point, they're literally just translated 2015 ans 2016 games released in English in 2017.
So you're wrong on all points.

2 & 3 apply to Persona 5.

Hence why there is a whole website dedicated to criticizing them and their changes to the story.

stop projecting and relax. if you like the game more power to you

And it doesn't change the game. It's literally still the same game. The new wolfenstein game released in the USA I'd the same as the one released in Germany, just because it's censored and has different dialogue and flags doesn't mean it's different. Face it, you're just wrong. If a game is released in 2016 and translated in 2017, it's still a 2016 game. You're just wrong.

The story is identical in both the Japanese and English versions of persona 5.

all I'm saying is if you only look for things to hate then you'll hate everything because video games are an inherently shit medium

but i dont though?

No, they would quite literally be different games. I could rate Wolfenstein [German Version] a 5/10 because of the lacking content and because the dialog sucked and Wolfenstein [English version] a 7/10 because it isn't censored and because the dialog is better and more engaging. This happens all the time.

As for P5 that's entirely dependent on what you define as the story. If you fail to localize a character properly, you can entirely change the nature of a story. Why do you think non-english novelists often work very closely with their translator and get to know them very well if they plan on publishing multiple novels? It's so that translator gets what the vision is and can change things to preserve the vision. This is why the book I mentioned earlier has the following page counts:
370 (JP)
386 (US)
298 (UK)

Translated works often are very different experiences, and can become essentially works of their own.

Nioh, Etrian Odyssey V, Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Samus Returns, BotW, Zwei 2.

But it's still persona 5
It's still the book that originally came out

it just isn't. If I paint the Mona Lisa but her eyes are green, it isn't the mona lisa. If the content is different, it isn't the same thing.

How can you say that the book I mentioned is the same with 100 pages cut out? Or A Clockwork Orange with the last chapter cut out? Or any Square game Ted Woosley worked on, where he would cut 25% or more of the script for the english release? How are these the same things with such different content?

This is video games. The story is the same, and the GAMEPLAY IS THE SAME. THEREFORE THE GAME IS THE SAME

Gameplay can be totally the same and be two different games. Hence, mods.

Storywise, I've already shown how dialog influences story and how changing that can change the story which in turn changes the game, just like every other form of media.

My top games are currently:
>Gravity Rush 2
>Zelda BoTW
>Sonic mania
>Splatoon 2
>Gundam Versus
>Mario Odyssey
>Final Fantasy XII the Zodiac Age

Still need to play
>Nier
>Persona 5
>Horizon Zero Dawn
>Cuphead
>Player Unkowns Battlegrounds
>Pyre
>Yakuza 0
>Resident Evil 7

Upcoming games I need to play ASAP
>Xenoblade 2
>Monster Hunter World

avoid nier

>FE

don't think so, timothy.

Why? Everyone has been praising it.

Unless you're being cheeky and talking about the first game which I already played. It actually pretty good. Only got ending A though watched the other ending on youtube.

avoid this user.

...

How DARE you

>Scalebound
REEEEEEEE

>scalebound
i wish
jk play if you want
for me it was a waste of time

Hipster shit level. Not contrarian shit level though.

The only games I remember playing this year were automata, original sin 2, and kingdom heart aqua's 2 hour journey and ddd. Was db xenoverse 2 this year?

This.

...

I think RE7 was the only game I actually liked this year. I'm sort of on the fence about Wolfenstein II.

Everyone play Nex Machina or your long lost ghost brother will die again
