Now that the dust has settled, how do you feel about Amiibo?
Are they an overpriced scam, or do you like the idea of a onetime purchase that grows in value over time?

On toy, barely dlcs exclusively for people too autistic to resist collecting little bits of plastic that are licensed with/tangentially related to something they like.
Basically true.
I own 65ish amiibos. I don't know the exact number any more.
anyone who buys them is a faggot directly contributing to the mediocrity of nutendo
Good. I feel good because I got them for 1 or 2 bucks each at gamestop when they had to get rid of them in order to fill the shops with funko pop.
I like them, some are reeeeeally nice looking (while some of the first ones are quite ugly). They are ok as collectibles, the nfc this is something I don't care about that much, nice to have but I could live without.
>there are people on this board that spent 40+ bucks on a single """rare""" amiibo
>Nintendo finally did something with the best Amiibo
Its about fucking time
>people too autistic to resist collecting little bits of plastic that are licensed with/tangentially related to something they like.
You caught me, I couldn't resist buying the original Smash 64 roster
>tfw Jigglypuff sold out within seconds of being available online
>Jiggs is my fucking main
I eventually got one, but that was fucking stupid
>best amiibo
Wario is best Mario.
Btw what do you mean with "did something"? Is Wario's amiibo useful in anything aside from mario kart 8?
Wario is used in a bunch of games, but as far as I know, Mario Odyssey is the first time the Waluigi amiibo has actually done something unique
I have the Ness one. Because good fucking luck finding anything related to Earthbound in America.
The AI critter thing in Smash is cool though. It's also one of the only good looking amiibo, I guess the simple art style lends well to it.
You can buy jigg for dirt cheap now, like any other amiibo that isn't a Zelda one.
>It's also one of the only good looking amiibo
The first wave of smash amiibos was kinda wonky, but I guess Nintendo listened to the negative feedback because they've really gotten better.
Some are worse than others, but some amiibo are shockingly nice for the price. Dedede in particular was surprisingly nice
They're as shitty as Funko pops and only Nintenkids will defend them.
Yeah, I eventually bought a Japanese Jigglypuff on eBay for like 15 bucks, but I was bummed out that I couldn't get one at launch
Amiibo = Funko Pop
I enjoy my Callie and Mary daily, totally worth the $20~ I paid for them
>They're as shitty as Funko pops
t.Fags that don't actually understand why people shit on Funko pops and just want to be in on the joke
Amiibos at the very least are recognizable as what character it's supposed to be. With 90% of funkos the only way to know who it is is by keeping them in their boxes.
@396272952
no (you) for (((you)))
Where do you buy them from? Last I checked ebay it was a nightmare. Looked like kids were listing them for stupid amounts.
Who would of known that a cake container would be the pefect prision for Ganondorf.
>they're in the right spots
nice touch
i only bought one, and i kinda regret it.
i have a decent quality official daisy toy thanks to amiibo
they're ok in my book
Congrats, Amiibo fans. Your consumerism helped Daisyfags.
>DK on Planet of the Apes
>Kirby on Beneath the Planet of the Apes
It was all a cash grab to dampen the fucking wii u crash.
If they were shaped like anime girls in skimpy clothing everyone would love them, no matter the cost. As it is there's retards on Sup Forums who pay hundreds for silly little figures which don't even have DLC built into them.
And no, I don't own any Amiibos, I made my own NFC tags for them.
>dampen the fucking wii u crash.
Even if the Wii U didn't sell very well, they still made a decent amount of cash. They lost money for I think maybe 1-2 years? But even that wasn't a lot
I like them in concept, but there is a line that I think Nintendo has occasionally crossed which really takes the "physical dlc" thing too far. Fusion Mode in Samus Returns is actually fine imo since it's essentially just a reskinned no etank run, but locking traditional Mario Party Boards behind them in the Wii u game took it WAAAAY too far.
Other than that, I also don't like the concept of locking digital, infinite content behind a tangible product that could eventually be lost to time. luckily we have spoofers and fake amiibo tags, because 10 years from now I would be pissed finding out there is no way to play a certain game mode in a game without spending 200 dollars on a discontinued amiibo.
>ebay
Wrong place. Never bought one there because stupid prices.
As I said in I got them from gamestops in my country. They sold them for cheap, during november 2016 or so you could get 4 amiibos and you would pay 2 of them only 0.01€. Also, during 2017 they would put low price tags on them, like 2 or 3€ each. Pic related
Ahahahaha master sword a shit.
>Yoshi on Dinosaurs
>Ness on War of the Worlds
>Pikachu on Pokemon
>not commenting on DK on planet of apes
>Fox on "Anything Else"
It's a pretty cool way of getting DLC because it unlocks multiple things across different games. Anyone who complains about them are being physical dlc is just a booty blasted console warrior.
They're pretty good quality figures for the price, but should only be bought as desk decorations. If you're buying an amiibo purely for functionality you're dumb as hell.
If you're not a collectorfag then you have no buisness owning one. Anyone who buys them just for the in-game stuff should neck themselves.
The Link figure unlocked one of the best weapons in Hyrule Warriors, so they're alright.
Plus, it was nice to get decent R.O.B. and Pac-Man figures.
You can do so much more with 13 dollars why buy an overpriced kids toy
List everything you can buy with 13 whole smackers then maybe I'll reconsider buying anymore amiibos.
They’re alright but Jesus the day Ness preorders were open that was a total shit show and I missed out on Robin and Lucina at the same time
this
>should only be bought as desk decorations. If you're buying an amiibo purely for functionality you're dumb as hell.
What if I buy them for both reasons?
Scam, but since Nintendo is my jam (including Smash), I didn't mind completing that collection. I'm actually hoping that the other veterans from Melee/Brawl are in for the inevitable Switch version.
If they bring ice climbers back i drop the ball.
I hate these ugly fags, they have no right being there for only one shitty games from 30 years ago. Even then, we have tons of shitty FE OC characters...
>Jiggs is my fucking main
>Jiggs
This is how people know you're autistic.
I suppose saying "Geef" instead of "Zangief" is autistic to
What the fuck is wrong with a little nickname for your mains?
They're figures that come with a bonus. They can be traded or copied, sold, loaned, re used, and useful in multiple games. They are objectively pro consumer.
>have a friend that collected the entire smash line
>he opened them all because he just thinks they're cool and doesn't give a shit about scalping people years later
>any time a game with amiibo bonuses comes out I just bring my Wii U/Switch with me next time I hang out with him and I can unlock everything for free
Thanks Brandon
I actually love the physical DLC because I can just buy a bunch of cheap stickers and spoof every amiibo in existence. Keep it up Nintendo!
You're joking?
They were in Melee and Brawl, and despite their original NES game (hell, Kid Icarus was worse, at least Ice Climbers was designed as an arcade game) are fun designs and an even more interesting Smash gameplay style. Rosalina and Luma aren't competent in FFA's - Ice Climbers would be.
Shitty overpriced happy meal toys with physical DLC
No, I despise them since I first saw them in melee, sorry.
I don't like their design, and if you really want two characters, I'd rather see it done with someone else.
Oh, well in that case, if YOU don't like them I guess you're right.
You didn't even play Ice Climbers so why would they put them in?
Oh my God how much of a fag you have to be?
I stated that I don't like them, I don't like their design, nor their game that I played and found boring as fuck, and said by someone who enjoyed Zelda II is saying something.
If they get in, good for you, but I don't like them.
>and said by someone who enjoyed Zelda II is saying something.
Oh boy YOU played and liked Zelda II? Thats pretty hardcore man, guess I better listen to you, you're clearly an experienced video game expert
The best Amiibo implementation is when it unlocks something already obtainable in the game without having to work for it otherwise. The Samus Returns Amiibo shit is just inexcusable because certain content is locked behind its Amiibo.
Honestly, I think the samus returns shit is fine, but they need to add an normal DLC option that is a little cheaper than the Amiibos too.
I'm all for that kind of unlock, but what the fuck are people that can't find those amiibos going to do?
I guess you could always pirate it, but its still a shitty system for anyone that doesn't want the figure or was late to the party
It's a common game that a retard would recognize, so you can understand how fucking boring I think ice climbers is.
I can't really see many of them getting in unfortunately.
>Young Link
We already have two Links (and the odds of making him a Majora's Mask character are low; they rarely drastically change a character's moveset).
>Ice Climbers
Best chance, Sakurai seemed to want them.
>Pichu
No.
>Squirtle and Ivysaur
At best, Charizard would be replaced with Pokemon Trainer
>Snake
Copyright would be a bitch.
>Wolf
Second best chance, but we already have two Foxes.
is a bit more harsh than I would have been. He's not wrong though - just because you don't like them doesn't mean someone else wouldn't absolutely adore them and use their playstyle well.
And yes, I'm completely aware of how that statement can be turned on me regarding Lucario or Dark Pit. At least Pac-Man and Lucina grew on me, but I despise the other 2. But, eh, if a number of people enjoy them, so be it. Lucario is a safe bet on that, but I'd kick Dark Pit in an instant.
>Young Link, Pichu, Wolf
Look at how many FE characters there are, and type that again with a straight face. A courtesy could easily be extended to them, seeing as roster integrity isn't a thing, now.
>Snake
And yet we have Cloud. Not even Geno for Nintendo relevance or Sora for the same audience to which Sonic/Naruto/etc. appeal.
>Squirtle/Ivysaur
This one's the real bitch on account of the Pokemon Trainer. As popular as Squirtle is though, and as generic as the trainer was, I think people wouldn't mind if the Trainer just wasn't included at all.
>Ice Climbers
I hope so. But as much as I hope for that, I equally hope that they ALL make it in, or this amiibo collection will just never feel right. To me, anyway. But that's as subjective as not liking Ice Climbers like the other guy.
I ended up getting the Kirby and Zelda Collection ones, along with Ness and Lucas. I hate that I have to wait for a Zelda and Ganondorf that work the same as the Smash Bros versions, so I can get the Bow of Twilight in BotW
For officially licensed figures with various uses in different games, they're not bad. I've bought figures for other media for far more with no use other than to look good on a shelf.
My only complaint is how hard it is to get some of them. I got lucky with Target's B2G1 game deal last week, local Target had, exactly, one of each Mario Odyssey amiibo in stock. Hoping to get my hands on the BotW ones eventually.
You can literally go to Best Buy right now and get a Lucina. Robin too depending on your gamestop.
Got some examples?
thats like, 13 hamburgers
Your arguments are reasonable. However, I still don't see Snake as likely. Konami's a completely different beast than they were in 2007, and different than Square.
Pichu would just be stupid.
I like them. The functionality in smash is cool too.
Originally just got link, but then I wanted the fire emblem ones, kid icarus ones, and now I have like 20 of them. I think it might be too many tbhf.
Snake is still a stretch, considering that his story is over. But MGS is still kinda running, so there's that "marketing" angle. I mean, it's not like Mega Man is in Smash for a new game or anything.
>spoiler
To be fair, the whole baby thing turned out to be stupid, on account of that it was more effort than they were willing to do for every Pokemon. Maybe because it would have been too much like Digimon? Regardless, as a Smash fighter, I just wish that Pichu wouldn't hurt itself. A faster Pikachu would be interesting (although potentially, ultimately pointless given how Sonic and Metaknight aren't performing in 4 as opposed to Brawl).
t. nintenbro
Not him, but as much as I'm a Nintendo fan, I'm also a consumer of other media, and as such:
What the HELL do people see in Funko? They're fucking ugly. The only Funko I've ever seen worth a damn is the Power Pelleted blue Pac-Man Ghost, and that's only because the eyes match.
I think some of those Fallout power armor funkos were alright too because they didn't have a face, but yeah, at least amiibo are made to look as close to the source material as possible
Funko pop are all the same shitty base with a couple key features of the character. You get maybe one in every thousand that doesn't look like trash
>grows in value over time
Tell that to someone that bought a Ness amiibo. THis shit doesn't grow in value because nintendo keeps making new amiibo for every fucking game
what the hell do people see in amiiboos?
I don't own any but I've been considering it. They look cool and seem to be decently made. I see it like they're collectable action figures that also do other things.
