How can Jumpman ever compete?

god that looks like shit compared to 64. there no momentum or weight behind his moves, he just goes

my fears they copy/pasted the 3D World movement were right. they just added the hat spin jumps for free mid air mobility (and look how those types of abilities killed platforming in Sunshine and Galaxy)

Fuck you if you don't think that is fun as shit to pull off.

its YEH-WAH-WOOHOOOO

so can you just keep jumping off your stupid hat infinite amount of times?

YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YA

N64 and Gamecube (Mario Kart DD) Era Nintendo had some great physics and animations that made Mario feel very nice to control. It's the same momentum, weight, and analog feedback that makes Sonic, AssCreed, and DarkSouls great to control.

Everything after GC-era Nintendo has linear acceleration for everything. It feels like you're playing 2D megaman, he either moves at a constant rate or speeds up at a constant rate. It feels cheap and floaty.

Mario should really be about core movement that's fun to use and master, not (boring) accessories that extend Mario's stock means of traversal at the expense of everything else.

Try using your eyeballs next time.

You can bounce once or not at all if you're trying to do it out of a walljump. He just falls through it like it's not there if you try to do it more before touching the ground.

youtube.com/watch?v=7wp3rzAdwT8

i aint the guy that said he had infinite jumps, i just noticed the way you reacted was super defensive

are you having a bad week user, what's wrong?

Remember just flying over entire fucking levels?

the wing cap says hello
if you remember correctly, caps were a gimmick in 64

I love this kind of stuff

yea those were also limited powerups that werent in every level and only lasted 30-60 seconds. not cappy, which you can use unlimited and have all the time

cappy is also extremely gimped compared to the caps. you can only bounce on him once.
Hell, galaxy and ESPECIALLY sunshine trivialize platforming much more

I never got this meme, Mario never says bing bing in his games.

>all these replies
This type of shit is not as easy as it looks. Also this seems to take a whole lot more skill than FLUDD ever did.

it's also a lot fucking harder to stunt off cappy than the various webms make it look

youtube.com/watch?v=iFubmEcqtC4

>i aint the guy
you can't prove or deny that

Are you serious? It's super fucking easy. Once I figured out I could do the ground pound boost and hat jumping within an hour of the game that's basically all I did for the rest of the game. Not saying it isn't fun, but come on.

burden of proof lies with you, angsty spergpants

>burden of proof
That's not what it means

This has to be the dumbest post in this thread. You clearly have no clue what you're even talking about:
First, GC had Sunshine so your point of "everything after GC-era feels cheap and floaty" is completely void.
Second, most gameplay you would show for the "great physics and animations" took years for most of those players to master, all the gameplay you see now has taken less than two weeks, it's far from being mastered.
Third, you're using an anime pic like a retarded tumblr warrior to prove your point, and for that alone, you should kill yourself.

The cappy moveset is way more engaging and fun. In SMO, to cover a gap you long jump -> cap toss -> dive to bounce -> cap toss -> dive and in SM64 you just long jump. How can anyone in their right mind say SM64 is more engaging? Mario's moveset leaves to a much more playful experience and all the shit you can pull off just begs to be experimented with when traversing the levels which Nintendo even expects you to do. Leaving piles of coins on top of roofs, pillars and walls.
And don't bullshit me about momentum, the inertia is fucking there and the momentum carries over to every subsequent move as long as you keep it up.

YA-YA-YA-YAHOO

WA-WA-WA-WA-WA-WAHOO

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA

It's pretty difficult to pull any of that off, so yeah it's not really a big deal.

>tfw you BLJ into GBJ

Sunshine had good movement. Only issue was that FLUDD reduced Mario's core moveset with annoying accessory moves that were not fun or satisfying to use at all.

Mid-air recovery is shit too. Modern Mario is like comparing Castlevania 3 to SotN as in the movement feels like trash.

Came in here to post this. Fuck.

>Link's movement in BotW is now so flexible he can basically traverse through anything
>Nintenbros don't think it hurt level design

>The cappy moveset is way more engaging and fun. In SMO, to cover a gap you long jump -> cap toss -> dive to bounce -> cap toss -> dive and in SM64 you just long jump. How can anyone in their right mind say SM64 is more engaging?
How is that even fun? Not only is it impossible to fuck that up, it's the most stiff and boring movement imaginable. Look at how he freezes in the air when going into a dive. Everything is a prepackaged animation and none of it flows together.

>Not only is it impossible to fuck that up
Play the game or fuck off.

>S..stop having fun! Stay on a railroad!

You have to be 18 or older to post here.

i agree with you about the movement
sm64 retains speed and momentum
all your moves in odyssey have fixed or capped movement

but you're totally off the mark about it being impossible to fuck up. I still haven't done it once and made it look as smooth as i've seen others do it. You really have to nail the input timing and stick direction and more than a little of the difficulty stems from how much i hate the joycon design

Outed yourself.

play the game or fuck off

'deflect like an impotent cunt' wasn't an option

looking at how they both look work i think ABHing is multiplicative or additave and BLJing is exponential, so Mario is guaranteed to go faster eventually

gordon can accelerate quicker but he'll never be able to achieve the sheer speed required to shift into an adjacent PU or beyond

>sm64 retains speed and momentum
>all your moves in odyssey have fixed or capped movement
Isn't it more or less the same though? If you long jump in SM64 and land, you retain part of the momentum. Same with Odyssey. If you flick yourself from one of those poles in New Donk and then land, you'll run really fucking fast. If you keep jumping, you'll retain that momentum for quite a long time.
I think Mario accelerates faster in Odyssey though, which may make it feel as though there is less weight to the movement.

I've been replaying the 3D Mario games. Right now I'm on Galaxy. I noticed doing side somersaults feels less responsive compared to Sunshine.

I think he accelerates slower as well.

>I think Mario accelerates faster in Odyssey
It's strange. Faster acceleration in Odyssey means he would be able to do side flips more easily, but compared to 64 and Sunshine, it takes more room and longer movement time to actually pull off the side flip. Though it's not like it matters, the side flip doesn't help very much in the grand scheme of things.

can you have fun literally once in your life?

Having 100%'d Odyssey, I'd still have to say that 64 feels better to control. I think Mario has more "snappy" movement in 64, and I think it mostly comes from the momentum preservation as compared to Odyssey where the animation has to play out.
I also really hated that some "advanced techniques" are just prevented outright; you can't endlessly capbounce, nor can you leap out of an enemy into a capbounce, nor walljump into a capbounce. It feels really limiting despite having more options.

Someone also interpreted the songs he was trying to do into actual sounds from the game.

They actually don't sound too bad.

youtube.com/watch?v=IuTvz0yBoFE

So take the jump then and don't use the moving platforms. Problem solved

why does peach's back door look like it's been remodeled? there are bricks around it that dont match

All these boring ass webms are exactly the same.
>longjump
>throw cap once
>jump on cap
>throw cap again
10/10 riveting gameplay.

youtube.com/watch?v=0FLQ_h_LaqA

The court yard in Odyssey is a separate dimension. Peach's castle doesn't have a back door. Bowser's sub is also far too big to fit into that hole.

>I said we'll be remodelling your back door.

This is a strange sort of nostalgia. Not one that I'm particularly fond of.

shut up retard

Just got to Dark Side

jesus christ I can only imagine the horror Darker Side will hold if I'm having trouble with this boss rush

Boss rush is very easy with low gravity. Spam cappy throw against the first broodal, then just casually jump on his head. Position yourself against Harriet so that you can knock back all of her bombs and just casually jump on her head. The third broodal you can instantly knock off his hat once he starts doing his spinning poison vomit and then jump on his head. Last Broodal I just beat normally because his hat throw returns too quickly to him.

The thought of Bowser forcing his way into Peaches front door and backdoor is very arousing.

I had more trouble with Dark Side. I really hated those bunny fucks and the low gravity fucked with me during the green one.
Here's a protip that will help immensely: There's an HP up in one of the fruits before the electricity wire going in. Just throw your hat at the tip of one of the vertical ones.
You also get an HP refill at some point, so it's not that hard.
I'm not going to spoil it, but know that the Darker Side challenge is not a boss rush.

I felt Dark Side was harder than Darker Side. Either way, don't rush things and just be patient. You've made it this far, so the increased difficulty isn't your enemy, but carelessness/hastiness is.
