Is it our time?

Yes.

Yes, but you forgot to put Bubsy in.

God Yooka Laylee was an uninspired abortion

don't see much jumping in snake pass

I was debating on A Hat in Time and Sonic Forces and opted to get AHiT over it.

I feel like I dodged a fucking bullet. It amazes me that a independent developer can make a better game then a major corporation like Sega.

3d Platformers are objectively bad and for children

>You have to jump to partake in the act of platforming
A game with emphasis on level traversal falls into one of 2 categories:
>A platformer (usually having instanced levels and collectibles)
>A game with parkour elements
Snake Pass is certainly not the latter.

There's nothing wrong with snake pass

If only Sonic Forces were a proper SA3...

>A platform game (or platformer) is a type of video game, and subgenre of action game. It involves guiding a player character or avatar to jump between suspended platforms and/or over obstacles to traverse their environment. The player controls the jumps to avoid letting their character fall to their death or miss necessary jumps. The most common unifying element of games of this genre is the jump button,

Hat in Time and Mario have me hyped. Now I just hope Psychonauts and Beyond Good and Evil 2 are halfway decent.

Though from early footage it looks like Beyond Good and Evil 2 looks like it's less of structured platformer and more of a massive open world space exploration, so I don't know what to expect from it.

Passion and creativity can go a long way.

retard

shitty 90's nostalgia driven productions that nobody will give a fuck next year

You're not allowed to like Yooka Laylee. Sup Forums and Tortanicposters forbid it. Sorry OP. Also Hat in Time isn't allowed any more either really, and Odyssey is starting to get autists shitposting too.

>free mini-game made with moving care put into the physics and platforming
May not be an officially licensed game, but it was quite good.

>with moving care put into the physics and platforming
and nothing else

What more do you want in a 3d platformer?

It pretty much is. I still almost can't fathom that we got both A Hat in Time and Mario Odyssey, in the same year. And that they both managed to be amazing!

After having grown to expect just about nothing for this type of game. Things have gone so much, much better than I ever imagined lately.

Everything but Mario was dogshit, m8.

How is Snake Pass?
Is it worth the money?
I hear everyone in real life says it is fun but I only see hate for it on Sup Forums...

My man

I hope Hat in Time sells alright with all the giant releases that there have been lately. Feels like they had a lot going against them as a kickstarter project but they pulled through.

Not him but you're basically saying if it's not as good as Mario, it doesn't deserve to exist, and you rather companies make more realistic cinematic games over cartoon platformers again. Fuck off.

Mario was truly amazing. But A Hat in Time was certainly amazing too.
You will not be able to convince me otherwise.

>How is Snake Pass?
Mediocre
> Is it worth the money?
No
> I hear everyone in real life says it is fun but I only see hate for it on Sup Forums...
Eh

good level design and camera

BG&E was never a platformer. It was a "Zelda-clone" action-adventure game. There wasn't even a dedicated jump button; jumps were contextual.

I'm saying they aren't good at all.

No one cares about the opinions of pedophiles.

I'd get it on a sale because it's short and light on content. It's not bad though. I'd give it C+.

I appreciate Snake Pass for trying some physics based movement, but it's very slow and not really fun. Climbing difficult obstacles at its hardest was holding down the grab button and just pointin upward until i made it up.

I feel like it was more the precursor to Uncharted styled platforming sequences.

>Mediocre
how so?

>I'm saying they aren't good at all.

And you haven't said why they aren't good and only said they were bad, when games aren't just one extreme or the other.

>Psychonauts 2
The first playable and updated visuals look good, but I'm waiting to see how the mental worlds turn out before allowing myself to get too excited.

All we need now to add to this glorious 3D platformer revival is an HD remake of Battle of Bikini Bottom

I liked the idea but wasn't impressed by how it played. The controls were occasionally tedious and it didn't make me want more of it. It wasn't bad, just overpriced, short and unremarkable.

>down left corner
>the most shilled game on Sup Forums

Yes please.
It won't happen but yes please.

I feel like one of the reasons that Hat in Time gets more love than Yooka Laylee is because it has more fun being its own thing, while Yooka Laylee was a literal palette swap for Banjo Kazooie that kind of backtracked on the original formula due to the change in map size and skillsets.

>Being its own thing
Let's be honest here. Just like they said in their kickstarter, they aped Sunshine, Sm64, Kazooie, Wind Waker's art style, the hook shot from Wind waker. Hat in Time isn't as unique as you seem to think it is.

That may have been the case, if it didn't come out seven years after Tomb Raider.

...

>they aped Sunshine, Sm64, Kazooie, Wind Waker's art style
that's an insult to those games. hat looks like a cheap flash/mobile game.

>3D collectathon platformers are back
>The platformer genre is dying again
That garbage was awful enough the first time around.

Snake Pass is underrated but it's not THAT good.

There's obvious inspiration. Hell, the murder mystery on the train feels like a direct homage to the Milkman Conspiracy from Psychonauts.

But after all these years just seeing the core of those ideas built upon with something diversly colorful and new in an straightforward non-meta adventure feels good to see. Even if the base mechanics are simple.

It's pretty much out of place this time.
AHiT and MO is pretty much alike. But SP is different thing.

>tfw we will never get 3D remaster of all the good Spongebob platformers (BfBB, Movie: The game, etc)
Why live

>everything wikipedia says is true

so what if it was a platformer that exclusively use dashes to traverse between platforms?
it doesn't count because theres no jump button?

is YL actually that bad?

i aint paying the stupid price they are asking for it but is it worth the time if its on sale or i acquire it for free

The only real bad thing about Yooka Laylee are the rextro mini games. They're legitimately not fun. The game looks good, it ran well over 60 FPS on my 970 3570k rig, movement is tight.

The final boss is bullshit, rest of the game is okay.

It's a 6/10 game. People are calling it shit because they were expecting at least an 8/10 game. The same thing happened with Mighty No 9. I'd wait for AT LEAST a 75% sale.

YL is just super mediocre. It doesn't surpass either of the games in the series it's mean to be a spiritual successor to, possibly as a result of Playtonic NOT being the entire original Banjo team.

It was kind of all over the place with stealth, action, chase sequences, exploration scavenger hunts, etc.

Some acrobatics, but not really collectathon styled platforming.

I think it's less about people finding it outright terrible, and more about a lack of polish and some underwhelming exploration after a lot of hype.

>Less about people finding it outright terrible
The consensus for most people is that it's an average game. The rest are shitposters that did not play it and are just copy pasting bullshit they found on Sup Forums.

Not that guy but I'd say a Hat in Time is very similar to Shovel Knight in a lot of ways. And that game also straight up copied and ripped things from other things as well. But most people would still probably recognize Shovel Knight as having an identity of its own.
Even though the pogo stick jump is straight out of Ducktales, with the SM3 overworld, and Castlevania sub weapons etc.

I think what sets them apart is mainly that they don't just rip off any one game in particular. But take what works from handful or so games, but does it their way and combines it in such a way that works for their own game.
And then you have things like Yooka Laylee and Mighty Number Nine or whatever that just feels like one thing yet feels inferior at the same time.

Is Hat in Time representative for this "genre"? I pirated it and played it for a bit but eventually it was too obvious that I was a grown man playing a game for kids so I quit. I don't think myself a "mature games" guy but this was one step too far in the opposite direction.

>I was debating on A Hat in Time and Sonic Forces
The fact that it was actually a debate in your mind shows how much you lack in basic foresight and common sense.

Mario Odyssey>>>Snake Pass>A Hat in Time>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Yooka-Laylee

wew, hows it feel knowing most video games, even the M rated games are targeted to kid/teenagers? Grow up.

Snake Pass is fun but I can't get it to run at anything close to playable framerate for me.

I can run DOOM averaging 120fps maxed out on Vulkan and Snake Pass pulls 40, I can get it to like 60 with frame drops if I reduce some settings but holy fuck if I wanted to play at 60fps I'd have bought a 60Hz monitor.

>wew

Time to stop playing games, grandpa. You're too old for them.

Half of those games are good at least

...

you mean at best?

should I buy Snake Pass?

yes but not at full price.

Is the wait finally over, Sup Forums?

user, Nuts N' Bolts was a decade ago...

replace Yooka with Cuphead and I'll give your thread a pass

Cuphead is a run and gun.

How the fuck is Snakepass a "platformer" its more like a 3d Cut The Rope

because you travel from platform to platform and other obstacles. jumping isn't inherently required. it's called deconstruction sweetie.

Why this would even be a question you ask yourself is astounding.

The title of "AAA Developer" used to mean something, but now it's a red flag more than anything.

>I feel like I dodged a fucking bullet.
You did.

it sold like 70k.
Sonic Forces sold like 300k.

This is the world we live in

>What is Bubsy 3D?

Why are you putting odyssey with these indie trash?

>Yooka Laylee
Stop that

Why is "3D platformer" synonymous with "collectathon"? THIS is a 3D platformer

That picture made Mario too tall

It's not. But it doesn't stop collectathons from being 3D platformers.

But why is every 3D platofrmer aside from the 3d rayman games or ratchet a fucking collectathon?

>tfw waiting for Hat in Time to just come out on consoles already

Just play it on PC

3d platforming sucks, gotta have something fresh to break it up.
