Why didn't you like Rinoa and her game?
Final Fantasy
I kinda like the game, but rinoa is worthless and retarded.
Why did FF8's characters suck so much?
>worthless
no
>retarded
Probably
Rinoa is cute. She made a great damsel-in-distress.
I'd certainly give her the d kys
I did though, she was lovable and VIII is my favorite.
But I did. Once in a year I replay it and besides overall comfiness of the world, the whole Ragnarok part and especially landing is just the best experience I've ever had in games, and I get to repeat it and it never gets old.
She's Ultimecia.
No one actually liked FF8.
I liked the game. It would've been better if she and her whole romance with Squall were removed. I like the world, music, setting, the towns and npcs were neat, and the Laguna sections were great. I even like the battle system.
Just get rid of Rinoa and even the whole sorceress plot, keep the Gardens and SeeDs and give them something that's actually interesting to fight against. Also, give us better party members.
There's a lot of wasted potential with the game but it still is enjoyable.
It's the best-selling Final Fantasy in Japan by a wide margin and like the third best-selling Final Fantasy worldwide.
Why are there so few mods for the Final Fantasy games? Considering how popular they are I really thought there'd be more. Especially lewd mods.
>remove the whole sorceress plot
>but keep the gardens and SeeDs that were founded to defeat the sorceress
>and also keep the whole planet the way it is, just remove that one thing that makes the planet exactly this way
Basically you just want some different game. Why not just go and play some different game?
There are few minor things that could be tweaked, but that's all.
I chose Quistis instead
There's a ton of mods for FFVIII. Most of them are terrible and make the game run like shit, particularly if you up the resolution.
>those faces
She's at her cutest when she was being sucked dry by Adel.
Rinoa is a pushy, unlikeable bitch.
Why didn't more people use hoverboards?
Any nude mods?
The little "Ahhhhh"s she made when she got hurt in that battle really got to me as a kid.
But I loved FF8 and I will always like it because it was THE first RPGs I ever played. Even now, it's one of the best OSTs Square has ever made.
She had no character.
Because it rode off VII's success.
>It would've been better if she and her whole romance with Squall were removed.
That's like the entire theme of the game. It was about romantic love. It's even in the logo.
best main character in ff but one of the worst games in the series
squall deserved better
No one likes Pork Rindoa, the whiney-swiney dick pig that always finds a way to McFuck herself in every remotely dangerous situation
According to interviews with the creators, Rinoa was designed to be the ideal girl. She's cute, playful, flirtatious in an innocent way, assertive, naive, emotional, and stubborn.
Same. The game was actually pretty fair in my eyes. Rinoa was almost as worthless as every girl that attempts to cosplay her worthless look. Shit tier waifu.
I never had the chance to play FF as a kid. So I played them up to 10 a few years ago.
I seriously don't understand why people likes VII over VIII and why people like VII at all. VII is literally VI, but in 3D.
8 was better than 7 in almost every way. 7 only gets remembered cause it got ff's foot in the door for western audiences and became a cash cow for nostalgiabucks
I remember her doing something stupid in disc 1, which is all I bothered to play, honestly I didn't like anyone at all outside of Selphie and Zell.
I hate VIII because of its stupid draw system, guardian force junctioning, and bullshit where enemies get vastly more out of level ups than you do, meaning that there is no point to random encounters other than to just draw and run so you don't gain exp.
I'd probably enjoy the game if enemies didn't level up, if you didn't have to use GFs to junction to certain stats just have all stats available in the first place and remove the shit with GFs, and if I could buy magic instead of having to draw it or do whatever shit you can apparently do with one GF to forge magic out of items or some shit.
I MET YOU ON A THURSDAY
That wouldn't explain why it sold worse than FFVII outside of Japan. Aside from just being a good game, it hits a lot of the beats the Japanese like:
>school days
>academy setting
>clean, idealistic future
>magical realism
the reason FF7 to 10 worked so well was due to romance storylines dumbass
FF VIII was the most atmospheric.
VII had a more mature tone and weightier story. It was dealing with deeper themes than VIII was. But that's by design: VIII was intentionally trying to be lighthearted.
>VII had a more mature tone and weightier story.
dude what?
I think you got them swapped
You could really say IV - X, sans V.
And this guy got to fuck this
Lucky bastard
People always bitch about the characters in this game but that is because it is x1000 more realistic that any other jrpg. When you realize a lot of these people suck because they are human the more you'll enjoy it
VII was about
>delusion
>regret
>decay
>dystopian future
>whether human beings matter to an indifferent planet
>being the last of a dying race
I don't know how you could possibly say it wasn't deeper and more mature than VIII was.
I love how the main villain had absolutely no actual motivation and was just there because 'lol, someone has to be the villain'.
Everybody just felt so token and stale. Like we were watching actors trying to play characters instead of characters themselves.
Soundtrack was pure kino though.
None of these are really that interesting or some games presented that deal way better (VI for example)
The only think I like in VII is that you start as the villain, but again, IV did it better too.
>8 was better than 7 in almost every way
Fuck no. 8 is garbage. Pointless leveling system. Tedious drawing, can break the game in half with morphing items, story is truly nonsensical, almost no one in the cast is memorable, GFs are useless in combat. I could go on.
Since the junction system determines basically everything about each character, the only real defining trait about each character is their limit break. Rinoa has a shit limit break, so she is worthless compared to squall or zell.
That being said, once you know how to make use of the junction system and item/magic creation, the game is piss easy anyway so use whoever you like.
VI had a dystopian future. It didn't deal with the concept on any thematic level. VII, meanwhile, is about humans hurting themselves as a species and sinking into a malaise after failed dreams and aspirations.
>her game
>women
>owning things
When will this meme end?
They did a terrible job at it then.
I love FF8 but I hate Rinoa because she was a retard enabler, everyone, every fucking one, who got in contact with her starting acting like a mongoloid. Hell, even Quistis put the mission priorities behind freeing that dumb whore from her room.
>OH hey miss sorceress, you should, like totally wear this not power stealing bangle that I snuck in here to give you. It's TOTALLY not a trap!
i didn't mind her
But the best girl was Squall
>bad characters aside from best girl Quistis who gets completely shoved into the background after disc 1
>hamfisted love story that gets shoehorned in at the beginning of disc 3
>dead, forgettable world with only one of the four continents having more than a small handful of locations on it
>worst plot twist in the series we all grew up in the same orphanage but forgot lmao
>no equipment selection aside from weapons and for the most part even that barely matters
>junction. enough said.
>level scaling is awful and actively discourages you from leveling up
>dungeons are boring due to this games complete lack of treasure hunting
>summons are useless
>forgettable soundtrack
>artstyle tries to look realistic but utterly fails due to the PS1's lack of power
The only good thing VIII had going for it was Triple Triad, and even that was tainted by the horrendous Queen of Cards quest.
Japanese translations were shitty as hell and everyone basically made translations from the English version.
It is better than FF7's translation but that one had the chibi style going for it so you shrug it off. When you see human-like characters uttering nonsense or repeating phrases, it gets more jarring.
The limits were really unbalanced.
>squall can regularly deal tens of thousands of damage
>zell and irvine can do comparable amounts, with the right set up
>selphie does crap damage, though has a very small chance of defeating an almost every enemy in one blow, including bosses
>quistis' blue magic is capped at 9999 and even then rarely gets that high; most enemies immune to bad breath; might guard lasts like two turns
>rinoa's dog's best move is to make you invincible, but you don't get that regularly; her magical berserker pulls from her magical inventory, so you have to literally remove almost all of her magic to make her pick the high-damage ones regularly
Ultimecia was better.
>You're the best looking guy here
You don't remember the dream Rinoa tells Squall about, near Edea's house, do you. The dream where she couldn't find Squall anywhere and searched for him all around the world. So Squall makes a promise to always wait "here".
Rinoa became a sorceress, outlived everyone she knew and got fucked up by her powers and usage of GFs. She only had pieces of memories of her life with everyone around.
She remembers where Squall promised to wait for her, so she built a castle in the very same place and waited. She remembers that SeeD is going to kill her in case she becomes a sorceress.
And that talk she had with Squall on Ragnarok coming back to Earth? The one where she specifically says "I don't want the future. I want the present so stand still." She tells you specifically why she wants the time compression.
It's all in the game. I agree it could have been executed a bit better, but at least it's not thrown into your face as if you're a 10yo that can't connect dots. You just have to pay attention to what the characters say and remember it throughout the game.
I did, more than any FF after it anyway.
Did you not notice that EVERY character is living in the past?
>cid is a washed up loser who can't get past his failed flight into space
>barret became a terrorist because his dumbass got his wife, kid, and village destroyed
>tifa's the same as barret and also idealizes some imaginary friendship she had with a boy from her village, even though they were never close
>aeris is waiting for her boyfriend to come home and falls for a guy who reminds her of him
>yuffie's upset about post-WWII Japan being a bunch of cucks; wants to restore its samurai spirit
>cloud is a mess of a human being who created this delusion of himself to hide his failure to achieve his dreams or help someone close to him
>vincent got cucked so hard he sleeps in a coffin, until you give him a chance to kill the guy who NTR'd him
That's what we call "thematic consistency". FFVII is about how society is past its prime and things are getting worse. That's reflected in all the characters, who remember a past that was better than them than the present is.
Basically this. The Lionheart can be acquired on discord 1, and so squall will very quickly have access to a broken as shit limit break very early. This is compounded by the fact that his finishing moves draw from every different weapon he has ever equipped, and if you have only ever equipped the starter weapon and Lionheart your chances of getting it are vastly higher than if you had actually upgraded throughout the game.
Zell can do similarly insane amounts of damage by just spamming his simplest combo moves constantly, taking something like a tenth of a second for each input. Only real downside here is that you have to keep inputting commands and paying attention, and it can take a while.
Irvine can be powerful enough with higher end ammunition, but usually I just use him as an aura machine if he's in the party. Kinda fun limit to use I guess, if far less powerful than squall or zell.
The End is a meme limit break. Quistis is basically useless, Rinoa is awful. Somehow I still like the game. Kill me.
Come to think of it I'm not sure Noctis even got a chance to fuck Luna. They hadn't seen each other since they were kids and only had an extremely small reunion before Luna was killed.
>we all grew up in the same orphanage but forgot lmao
You know the real kicker here is that if you drop the amnesia plot line the orphanage twist actually works a lot better and really goes a longer way to justify the characters actions.
Why is Squall such an anti social asshole? Because he lost his onesan and his foster mother.
Why is everyone such a cock orbiter for him when by all accounts they should tell him to fuck off and leave him to rot? Because they're family.
I don't even see why this needs to be a mystery but if you really need it to be you can just leave it as a sore subject that everyone alludes too and finally when Rinoa joins them you can have them explain it to her as an outside.
That really would have been clever. It would have also tied into Edea's speech about sorceresses going crazy if they don't have a knight.
"... Whatever".
It's more poignant that they're all affected by a childhood they can't remember.
-Squall and Seifer are replaying the same rivalry they had as children.
-Quistis is still trying to be the den mother.
-Zell is trying to be super masculine to make up for being a crybaby as a kid.
If they all knew what they were doing consciously, it wouldn't work as well.
Don't they fuck each other in the after life or something?
that too, Squall becomes her knight, but I don't remember on which disc.
Also, Ultimecia/Rinoa summons Griever, with a name that you give to Squall's ring.
For it to be poignant they have to be interesting and endearing to start with. Instead we got a bunch of fops we don't care about getting amnesia because reasons and then a last minute ass pull.
It's a classic example of the Square writers for whatever reason taking what is essentially a simple story and fucking it up and making it weird for no reason than to look deeper than they are.
There's something very comfy about a bunch of childhood friends being separated then reunited when they're on the cusp of adulthood.
Great. But again. They're not friends. Squalls a jerk to everyone and the other characters don't have shit to say if it's not about Squall. One mid game flash back out of nowhere doesn't make it comfy.
they should've padded out the academy setting more, made it like the first half of the game being in a fucking mercenary school of magic. instead we got "congratulations, you passed!" at the start of the game.
Take this game, Remove the fucking draw system. I'll take random fucking drops over the draw system, I will take Crisis core roulette over the fucking draw system.
Drawing summons is an interesting concept, but drawing magic is the epitome of mandatory tedious grinding.
Rinoa is okay but she got stuck in the Final Fantasy with the worst combat system.
>squall gives selphie a tour of the garden
>squall joins the garden festival committee
>squall can either agree with zell or call him a chicken-wuss
>squall defends his group to the forest owls
>squall talks irvine down and takes responsibility for the situation
>squall rushes off on his own to go save zell
>squall is constantly worrying about his decisions put his friends in danger
>squall makes insightful comments, such as to FH mayor or about the shumi leader's gestures, showing there's a philosopher behind that stern face of his
Stop talking about how "comfy" it is. It's only a comfy game because you can break it so easily and cakewalk up to the final boss.
You don't have to grind draws. Most people don't. Most people just play the game the way it was meant to be played, spamming GF summons and letting the GFs take damage for you.
Game wasn't edgy enough for me
I played the entire game with Enc-None on.
Sort of like a Cold Steel thing. Well much quicker paced. But yeah have Disc 1 end on the graduation and really spend more time fleshing out the setting and characters
>no ff8 movie with Robin Williams playing Cid
Name a game where
a) a deep knowledge of game mechanics, farm spots, item drops and crafting recipies;
or
b) playing with a guide;
doesn't make the game easier on consecutive replays.
That fucking Lionheart argument. You don't have the slightest idea it even exists until you get the Weapons Magazine and even then you don't know which monsters drop those items or even where those monsters are.
The only way to get it on disc 1 is to play with a guide/wikipedia open or, spend a year farming every single monster on disc 1, hoping something random drops that might unlock something.
>Rinoa is awful.
But she is only awful when she turn into a witch. When she is back with Angelo, her limits are great. Just don't teach the dog useless tricks.
"Eyes on me" is a legit great song
Bless Faye Wong
>game is easy after I've learned everything about it
One of the best ever.
he impregnated her 50 times in the afterlife ;_;
The game is piss easy regardless how many times you've played it. As soon as you put two and two together concerning the junction system, the difficulty of the game disappears completely. This revelation should occur sometime by the early second disc even if you are trying to play in a "normal" way.
Lionheart is not required to break squall. His standard attack power can be boosted to a massive level by just figuring out that those gf refining abilities can be used to make some extremely powerful magic very early. Tornado and quake I seem to recall can be refined from some very simple to acquire items. Lionheart just makes it even more absurd, but I grant that getting it that early is not obvious to figure out at all.
Rinoa > Aeris > Tifa
Yes, the game gets easier when you start min-maxing. But what's wrong with that? You choose to spend time on farming/drawing/playing cards in order to have a stronger character. Too strong for the content that's available to you, because you're not progressing with the story. That's true to pretty much all rpgs.
It's like people complain that they're strong after they invested time into being strong. What do you want, really. Not to lvl up? Not to become stronger with better items/stats? I don't get it. Go fight Ultima without preparing. Better yet, go find Ultima in the first place, without reading about it somewhere or accidentaly finding the place.
Beatrix > All
The fuck are you on about. It's obvious how to break the game as soon as you obtain direct control of the characters. Even stacking low tier spells in enough volume will make it so you can cake walk over the early game
Fuck that whore. I was happy when she got BTFO by bandersnatches.
The man with no taste
The combat was extremely slow paced and I wanted FF7-2
>Cerberus
>Aura
>Casting Limits every turn
>skilled
>intelligent
>cool under pressure
>professional
>school cuties all over his dick if he'd let them
Chad as fuck
Square is never going to confirm or deny that Rinoa = Ultimecia, right?
>Not to lvl up
I would love to level up actually. The game doesn't want me to, though.
Play the New Threat Mod for FF VII. Its glorious
