Why does Sup Forums love this game so much?
Not judging, just curious.
Dragon's Dogma
it's mediocre as fuck but you can make brown loli's so it's basically GOTY.
worth MAYBE a $10 price tag during a steam sale
Feels like my answer to "What's your dream game?" but it didn't get enough time or budget.
The visuals look unappealing. Can you add colour with mods?
Cool combat with varied abilities, decent dungeons and a good character creation system.
Best bad game of all time.
Mostly individual moments from the games. Like my first dragon kill happened after a 3 day and 4 night fight with constantly dwindling resources and constantly dwindling oil. So the fight felt epic.
It's one of the only games were being a wizard is super cool and you get huge spells that feel like cataclysmic events instead of sitting in the back and casting firebolt forever.
>3 and 1/2 days to kill a drake
The fuck are you doing
better than Skyrim?
>why do people like a good game
I fought it at very low level. And because I'm a stubborn fuck my lack of damage did not deter me from brute forcing that fight.
I don't know but I am super addicted to it and I am sorta bored of it but I can't stop playing it. It has enough stuff to do to keep you busy for ours and the combat is actually fun, the dlc is great too, turns the game into a nice dungeon crawler
I never played Skyrim. I'm sure I will eventually.
It's like a mix of Dragon Age Origins and Monster Hunter. It's genuinely fun, but somehow not going to get a sequel with the polish it needs to be great.
I ended up liking the characters even though Dragon's Dogma doesn't give a fuck about characterization. I ended up spending a couple play throughs talking to every single NPC after every single mission and there's actually a lot of foreshadowing and interesting tidbits that nobody ever sees.
Yeah this basically.
Open world third person ability-based action RPG with a character creator. More importantly it makes good sounds when you level up and cool shit pops on the screen just right when you find gold, kill enemies, and get treasure. You just go around and hit shit and everything pops up like a slot machine you can control. It's fun as fuck.
controller or keyboard/mouse?
Is the stuff about pawns learning from your combat style in the game bullshit?
Dragon's Dogma is like a big pot of soup, with things from many games added in. I'd say jack of all trades master of none personally, except the combat of course. Dragon's Dogma's combat has yet to be topped by it's open world contemporaries. You play it and wonder why every other open world game isn't like it.
>fucking amazing combat
>being able to sprint, vault, slide down hills, and most of all climbing pretty much any ledge you see
>actually deep character customization, fuckloads of options but also player size, musculature, and weight is taken into account
>variety of classes each with many unique abilities, can switch instantly
>(semi) intelligent party members in the form of pawns, you can create your very own
The game is genuinely epic, you see that fuckign griffon and you're in for a drag out brawl with a giant four-legged bird, all to a soaring soundtrack while you do so. I could go on about the combat but possibly it's best feature is the grab. Being able to leap onto enemies, grab them, and stab them in face face is just incredible. I mean what other game even does this? SotC does and its ALL ABOUT slaying giants. Massively underrated game, way ahead of it's time, unfortunately we'll never get a sequel since MHW basically takes it's place.
Combat is fun and dynamic and vocations add a lot of variation to it
Level design is good where it matters
Pawn system is unique and adds a lot of depth to the game
Seemingly generic story and setting that evolves into something unique
Great character creation and customization
Incredible attention to detail in how you can interact with the environment and the actions you can take against various enemies (and the actions they can take against you)
Fantastic enemy design
Buttload of content
Building your pawn to be the most efficient killing machine possible is fun
>insane customization
>hybrid classes
>tons of ways to customize combat
>tons of content
>great story, characters and setting
Some of the main characters in the game are very cool and I wish they had more development, I liked Julien and Mercedes's confrontation, the guy can do some slander. But its never really developed, you never know where Julien goes after the rebellion
meme voice acting
the fundamental mechanics are very good if rather repetitive without BBI
the lore/story goes to some interesting places after being super generic fantasy for the first 50 hours
the main trick is that playing any class that isn't yellow is a mistake, the game is blatantly designed around them and the other classes are basically "spam my one move that's good"
Yes they do, and the way they act is affected in
by talking to them on the Knowledge Chair
amazing combat is the main thing
I assume that he went home. Julien's goal is to let Gransys die so he can go home because Gransys are a collection of soft idiots who have never seen real battle and aren't worth the effort it takes to save them. But his motivation for doing that flip flops. Because at the stone of the north he says it's because Gransys slaying 2 dragons would make them an invincible political power. While in prison he says that stripping people of all hope would make them run away and would save their lives. Gransys would burn but at least her people would live. That's why I wish they took more time to develop the characters.
It's maybe misleading but it's more accurate than you might think
pawns have set tactics but are only coded to use them if they see you or another pawn do them enough times, so if you throw enemies at other enemies they'll start doing it
additionally based on your playstyle pawns will get modifiers to their AI that determine what actions they take, for example if you loot during fights constantly your pawn will too
combined this can lead to pawns that feel really clever despite running on preset AI routines chosen from a list, or pawns that act like total fucking idiots because they're trying to copy your up close fighter despite being a mage with lengthy cast times
Depends on what your expectation of that is. They won't ever mimic your playstyle to a T, but there are (a lot of) certain actions that they will learn from either yourself or other pawns performing them, and how you fight and how you use your pawn in a fight will influence their inclinations.
I'm trying to convince my friend to get this, does the PS4 version have the PC version's quick item slots?
Yes, select the item and press triangle you use the d-pad. I'm actaully salty that you can't do it on pc, have to use keys 1-5.
Dragon's Dogma has a good combat and party system. It's like the imaginary details of a turn-based battle, but made into an actual real-time video game.
Skyrim's combat is terrible, so yes, it's way better.
>Give grimoire to Steffen, think nothing of it
>End of Griffin's Bane quest at the top of the tower
>Things aren't going so well
>Thank you for aiding me during my time of need, allow me to help you
Best moment for me
Try giving him a forgery of the grimoire and see what happens
He gets mad and doesn't help you
stuff like this is what makes DD great. they didn't have time to finish the game but what they did still feels more open than basically any other open world game
like being able to use a wakestone on whoever loses the mercedes/julian duel. the game doesn't specifically tell you to do this but it completely changes how the quest works
It's shit compared to Skyrim/Oblivion
No, wrong.
He takes your forgery, then goes to the tower to help you and tries to cast his spells. Nothing happens and he's confused, and then you just gotta fight the griffon yourself.
It's a fun little tech demo for what could have been an amazing game. There isn't enough sterotypical fantasy stuff out there. Other games always try going for their own absolutely terrible design that ends up being worse.
I did that quest the other day and he glitched out and ran back down the stairs. I thought he just died, but when I felt it necessary to retreat myself, I saw him halfway down the stairs. I had to carry him back up and throw him to the gryphon to get him working again. Then he twoshot it. Good thing, because I was terribly equipped for the fight.
>character creation that actually affects shit(weight, being able to enter a certain area only if you're small enough)
>weight affects how fast you can run, how fast stamina is consumed, and how well you can hold onto a monster
>online component doesn't require PS+/Xbox Live Gold
>like 10 different equipment slots with everything appearing on your character
>9 different job classes that for the most part all play differently
>can make forgeries of quest items so you can keep the real one while turning in the fake
>slut simulator where you try to make the best slut you can so they get hired more often which results in more RC for you
Only really bad things about the game is how most of the "boss" monsters are locked until you progress further in the game, how quickly they go from "challenging" to "killed them before they even noticed me", and how the world looks like shit after killing the dragon(though there is a glitch to make it so everything looks normal while in post game)
Took me 7 runs through to lvl 200 before i learned you can check your enemy kill counts in your history
Its like a small piece of absolute greatness, its the foundation of what could be the greatest videogame ever made. but it is just that, a small sample, The map is extremely small and lacking in content but whats there is bretty good
The current gen re release has given me hope that dragons dogma 2 will be made, and will be a full game with a big map and tonnes to do and explore
The game does a lot right.
Lots of content and fun, combat is actually good, classes are fun, you can climb monsters like in shadow of the colossus, and pawns are awesome.
a few minor issues
- stamina depleting when running around the map, causing you to pass out
- fast travel sucks (fixed a little with dlc ferrystone)
- pawns chatter too much (can be turned off)
- enemy diversity
Does anyone want me to hire their lvl 25 pawn in exchange for hireing my healslut? I could use some RC
It's a fun rpg that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. Magic feels AMAZING and you can climb big monsters and punch them to death.
Also customizable waifus/husbandos.
great gameplay
good class variety
custom characters
Are there mods fixing warrior yet? I have no idea what they were thinking only giving that class 3 skill when literally everyone else has 6.
What skills would the warrior make use of? I know there's a lot that would benefit them but they sort of have their own weapon class.
It's the closest we have to an open-world D&D game. The party system facilitates some really cool combos and strategies, and the world is generic enough that you can project your own story onto it.
I mean that you can have 6 skills assigned at once for every other class. Warrior you can only assign 3
The game has a lot of stuff in it that makes obvious they wanted to have multiplayer in some form. Those skills that are throw other person in the air really high just seem perfect for real people setting up some smart attacks and such.
going through the art book just makes me sad
Why did Fighter and Warrior get fucked so hard? They're the two classes I wanted to play the most besides Mystic Knight yet they're so much worse than every other class in terms of usefulness.
I know bro. It hurts me too. Theyre super fun until you realize the 20 minute fight couldve taken 30 seconds with a mage or assassin.
Maybe one day well get DD2 or even better DD:all cut content edition
Yes, look up for ENB mods in nexus
I don't know, it's pretty shit.
They just needed a ranged option so they wouldn't literally be the only two classes that have 0 ranged abilities. I wouldn't care if their ranged option was throwing fucking rocks, give them something.
It's a phenomenal RPG with a lot of charm and the pawn system is on a level in which no other RPG with companions have even been able to touch
a crossbow would have fit right in with those class's aesthetics and fighting design
