>find the first game painfully mediocre
>stop playing about 2 chapters from the end cause I just didn't care about finishing
>saw a lot of threads praising the 2nd game
>decide to pick it up on Halloween since I can only replay REmake so many times
>just finished the the two "Lust for Art" objectives
I'm honestly surprised by how much I like this sequel. While some of the flaws of the first still remain I think the overall game is better. The gunplay feels better and I think the "boss" monster encounters are better (even if circular saw arm is the stupidest shit.) I also appreciate that this game actually keeps me in a consistent environment for long stretches. One of my biggest gripes with the first game was the constant shifting of levels.
Tew2 thread or games you didn't expect to like as much as you did
Other urls found in this thread:
funny because TEW2 is more of a downgrade compared to TEW1
I notice that many people praising this game seem to be the same plebs who disliked the first game.
This
I'm honestly interested to read what you guys found better about the first compared to sequel sequel.
>Chapter 2
>The part where you first meet chainsaw dude chained up in the barn
>dropped it there
opinion fucking discarded
>One of my biggest gripes with the first game was the constant shifting of levels.
Never play a Mario game. Or any fucking video game.
you completely misread my post
having different levels in a platformer and constantly shifting the environment to varying skins of "lmao dude blood and rust" are completely different.
I liked the first game but this is a legit issue.
It felt like the game had no real direction and you're just teleporting between set pieces.
>levels were laid out better and handcrafted
>bosses were definitely much better in TEW1 (ironic how in TEW2 you get a boss rush phase of TEW1 bosses as the final boss shows how fucking bad it is)
>the atmosphere was better and spookier (in TEW2 all of that was thrown out the window with the open world hub)
The only thing they improved upon the first was being able to infinitely store up crafting materials for ammo so you don't miss out a lot when you're full
that was a good quality of life improvement
Another gripe I have was with the stealth where you had to spend 20k green gel on the predator stealth kill which was completely useless and a waste of gel since just walking up behind and then sprinting behind zombies was alot, ALOT more effective of a stealth kill
The addition of the cover system in TEW2 was implemented HORRIBLY
I almost never use because of how sticky it was because the delay on it would completely fuck you over
that's all from the top of my head
>It felt like the game had no real direction and you're just teleporting between set pieces.
>game has fun varying levels with a narrative that allows for it
>people complain and want boring linear stuff
???
>people complain and want boring linear stuff
Nigga that's exactly what TEW1 was.
FPBP
thats another thing that pisses me off
is that these so called mini-bosses will ALWAYS and I MEAN ALWAYS patrol in a close vicinity to you as if they were a homing missile.
It would work in a way that Mini-boss was patrolling the front of the coffee shop so you go to the alley way. Mini-boss senses you are no longer in its area so its Runs toward your vicinity and then patrols that alleyway instead but still doesn't see you it just shifts patrol areas constantly it's so fucking stupid and ruins immersion
makes investing in stealth pretty fucking stupid
How could you forget matches? It was fun as fuck and added an extra layer of depth to the first one where you'd try to maximize the amount of enemies you could kill with a single match. Also being able to disable traps in the first one.
>levels were laid out better
This is blatantly false, there's good level design in the first level and the mansion but a huge swath of the game is literally just a corridor. Stealth was pretty much pointless because there was never a time you could use it past the first few levels.
The rest is right though.
CHECK THESE DUBS YOU MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE TO EAT SHIT ! ! !
Enemy placement and variety was a lot better in the first game, 2's gameplay suffers a lot from repetition, you don't get those moments like the javelin towers, the maze with the giants, the invisible cthulu's, Joseph's lock picking tower defence or kidman in the water tank, TEW2's only standout moments like those are the cabin zombie defence segment and the part where you escort hoffman through the literal firewall.
Xenoblade
Picked it up close to release on Wii.
Absolutely hasted it, and loved Neptunia Mk 2 for some reason (Picked that game up within I think the same week). Then bought it on the 3DS and fucking loved every aspect of it. It truly is a magical game, and If I didnt love other games than it more it would be on my 3x3.
Probably because the first game is literally stream-of-consciousness; it's meant to be chaotic because its drawing different shit from everyones' minds.
>Stealth was pretty much pointless because there was never a time you could use it past the first few levels.
Chapter 11
The gas filled room
Most of chapter 13
That's about it.
Stealth in both games are too fucking shallow to carry a whole game by itself.
At least the Kidman DLCs were 1. barely 2 hours long 2. had something resembling a decent level design for sneaking (and some shitty puzzles but whatever). TEW2 is so fucking empty and boring.
>Joseph's lock picking tower defence or kidman in the water tank
2 of the worst moments in the first game.
>TEW2's only standout moments like those are the cabin zombie defence segment and the part where you escort hoffman through the literal firewall.
2 of the worst moments in the second game. I agree overall that enemy placement and variety was generally better in the first but these setpiece moments were dreadful. I hate forced combat sections like these in TEW, it tries too damn hard to be RE4 and falls short every time.
TEW2 is literally "dude lmao open world"
Making a lot of different linear levels is hard, i know.
>huge swath of the game is literally just a corridor.
Yes, just like resident evil 4. What's the problem?
TEW2's not really THAT open. It's hubs are pretty small and you can count the number of sidequests on a single hand.
>first game painfully mediocre
But first game was amazing aside from few pacing issues.
And yet it's also shallow as fuck and every linear segment is 90% cutscenes which sucks.
I like it but TEW1 was fucking great. You just didn't know all the cool things you could do with the combat in the first one.
Dunno about 90% (unless an NPC is tagging along, then they never fucking shut up) but 2 still did like its cutscenes more than 1 and that is a bummer.
the first game was much better.
I liked both for the most part though.
>One of my biggest gripes with the first game was the constant shifting of levels.
Each chapter of TEW had it's own feel with it's own issues for better or worst. TEW 2 chapters had barely any distinguishing features. They were all really forgettable.
The patch made the AI less retarded by the way. The sub-bosses are annoying as fuck now, flamethrower guys are nearly impossible to stealth kill now.
Those 2 parts in the first game wernt't THAT bad.I mean: A) For the Kidman water tank section you had Joseph backing you up and B)For Joesph lockpicking section you had plenty of opportunities to light Haunted on fire. The sections i hate in both games are: In one: The water section in one,Facing alter egos in one, bosses doing 1 hit kills in one,the sadist sneaking section in one (This actually had me scared and my heart was beating super fast),and the First person sewer section in two (Same as the sadist in 1. I dont know man I just hate feeling defenseless)
>Those 2 parts in the first game wernt't THAT bad
I have to disagree at least on the defense sections. I hated it when RE4 did it and they remain, by a wide margin, my most hated parts of both TEW games. I just think they're a really fucking tedious concept and I wish these games would stop using them, they are NEVER any fun in the slightest.
TEW1 had retarded one hit kills.
TEW2 is just boring.
Pick your poison.
>flamethrower guys are nearly impossible to stealth kill now.
I was able to get off one stealth hit and then never was able to get one off again. just figured it wasn't doable after a certain part. am I wrong?
Personally I liked that, although it was a bit of a drastic turn when you suddenly wind up in Legend of the Hidden Temple.
Also didn't get why Mobius had to brainwash people into living in their perfect utopian brain town.
We're all in agreement that the first one had vastly superior art direction, right?
absolutely.
No doubt here.
God yes. Stefano's sections showed a hint of inventiveness to them but otherwise 2 was pretty lacking in this respect.
And I would have to disagree with you.
You can heal Joseph in both parts with no penalty what-so-ever. On top of that like I already mentioned you had plenty of opportunities in the lock picking section to light people on fire (though trying to line up multiple Haunted was a major pain in the ass)
I blame the pseudo open world aspect from the 2nd game.
The first Evil Within has got to be the ultimate casual filter.
You're a fucking idiot my dude, learn to read before making an ass of yourself
I really wanted to hate tEW1 but I ended up loving it. Truly an underrated gem.
Don't get me wrong, it's pretty flawed but it has some moments in the game that are straight up 10/10 and I learned a lot about the game's nuance within the mechanics after watching this speed run on AKUMU which let me appreciate it a lot more when I replayed it, I couldn't believe how bad I was my first go through.
youtube.com
Flawed gem is the best way to put it because the game has some moments that are 4/10 but it's worth playing for the 10/10 moments.
is the game atleast HD this time on xbox one or is still sub 720p?
I liked both
I had to max out the sneak skill to stealth hit them
I had it maxed out, I must have just been fucking it up some way.
Stop liking stuff.
>There will be a time when 1080P will be SD and 4K will be HD
That time is comeing closer and closer as we type,user... Are you ready?
jokes on you i barely even play any video games and don't care about 4k
I still remember the jump in quality from switching from coposite cables to hdmi growing old sucks
Unironically the open world formula for me, my main issue with the first game was jumping from place to place, so abruptly, without even realizing what i had to do other than just, "kill everything in this map and move on to the next", i enjoyed exploring the hubs which weren't that big but allowed me to choose where to go and how i wanted to reach my destination at any given moment.
Who/what was Anima? Why does she look like Laura?
these guys knew where you were 24/7 on classic mode
