Sonic Forces

NO NOOOO NONONO NOOOO
Did they literally even test this game before they released it?

“I hear people saying that they want Adventure 3, but the path that we’re on and... Adventure 3, what fans want that to be, might not be an advancement of the series, So I don’t want to do an Adventure 3 and step the franchise back just to give the fans what they want.”

hahahahahahahahah

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

>tfw a Sonic programmed in Roblox has better physics than Forces
youtu.be/LhKfNybwOic

No, no they did not, they have clearly not done enough/any QA on any 3d Sonic game, why is anyone surprised by this?

...

Why didn't they just put a dash pad at the base of the ramp like they do everywhere else?

holy fuck

...

I restarted this level multiple times because I thought it was my fault. They need to axe ST.

I am glad Mania did well and forces bombed. Hopefully this will be the wake up call Sega needs to fucking fix sonic

It can't be cheap to make these games, how the fuck do they manage to blow so much time and money into unplayable garbage consistently?

Classic Sonic was shitty in generations too, but Sup Forums praises the shit out of that game.

I would wait until the sales are announced first.

--

Forces is decent, its a lot more fun than I expected it to be but its still clearly lacking in areas.

Classic sonic was not THIS shitty. There were still enjoyable classic levels in generations, but there is not a single good classic level in Forces
I don't know why they thought it was a good idea

Because they saw the only time normies ate up Sonic games if it was A) more Mario like or B) had Classic Sonics face shoved front and center since IGN and youtubers have told them thats the only acceptable Sonic to like

But the best part of Generations were the modern stages. It and Colours are boost sanic done right.

>don't go fast enough
>IT"S BROKEN!!!!!

that's you

>speed shoes last an entire 3 seconds before you go back to normal speed
what the fuck were they thinking?

The game doesn't follow typical sonic physics where running down a slope increases your speed. Sonic basically has a terminal running speed.

The loops have to have an invisible force to help Sonic along because the physics don't support running up slopes, as seen on these webms

in the case of the other webms, "not fast enough" is "holding forward down the whole time", which is all you're able to do

>To Sonic Team

no

Classic Sonic really must have been a last minute addition, you can tell by how little he affects the plot.

Which is absurd because the game almost definitely started as "classic, modern and boom have to team up"

I've been seeing people say it was originally focused on the avatar and they dialed it back from that.

Honestly, I'm hoping this will light a fire under SEGA/Sonic Team's asses to do better, or just reorganize the entire time.

It seems like whenever Sonic Team gets comfortable, they'll laze it out until they're forced to try and they can keep lazing it out because people keep letting them get away with it.

I mean, say what you will here about the rest of Forces, but what excuse do they have for mucking up Classic Sonic's gameplay like this? I can't even imagine that sliding on Mania.

I wasn't too keen on Classic Sonic once they revealed he was in the game, and went "no, it's not Generations 2!"

Modern Sonic doesn't need Classic as a crutch, which you're clearly using him as, what he needs is for you to make better games with him in it.

>failing the qte

>they managed to top 06 with boom
>now they've topped boom with this

>now they've topped boom with this
you're falling for fake hysteria, user. Forces isn't broken and (sans classic levels) it's not even bad. It's overall a mediocre game, the only reason it's getting memed so much is because Mania was so genuinely good and the contrast is clear

According to Jim Sterling, complaining about this means you're a Sonic autist.

Game development companies tend to have huge QA departments but I get the feeling that they only do integration testing and never any end-to-end. This is probably because proper, competent end-to-end testing takes ages and probably doesn't sit well with the tight waterfall development schedule many of these companies run.

Instead they combined beta testing and end-to-end and made people pay for it as 'early access'.

I can't wait for the scalding Forces jabs in Sonic Boom

Delete this

>$60 'AAA' Sonic game
>Has Sonic Genesis levels of bad physics
How does this even happen?

>waterfall development schedule
wait people don't still use that shit do they?

There's only two episodes left user and they air these coming saturdays. No time for forces jokes, they only just had time to slip this one in

The physics in the Genesis games were much better than the 2D sections in Generations and Forces.

>Has Sonic Genesis levels of bad physics
good bait

the last ramp doesnt even exist

Oh.

Maybe next season then.

This is what happens when speed is a factor of framerate

is talking like a fat nigger on twitter really necessary?

user...

I'll second this, I've been "hating" on Forces since the avatar was revealed (and previous to that I was mostly skeptical because it looked like Generations 2, which is great but not something I was desperate to play at the time) and while I get those tingles of validation everytime I see this game getting slammed for being the uninspired and misdirected pile of shit it is I can say with no hint of doubt that at the very least this game is not mechanically broken nor falling apart the moment you play it like 06 and Boom (at launch) were.

Also, 06 left a pretty fucking big stain on the franchise and can be blamed for pretty much every single decision that came after it (Sonic only, no more adventure gameplay, lets try to avoid anything that takes itself seriously), you can argue if these were good decisions or not (this game makes you think that Sonic Team clearly can't write anything with any semblance of seriousness) but they had an impact on the franchise that not even Boom managed to replicate, and I really doubt this game will manage to do anything like it.

That said, since this game is getting slammed harder than all the others on the boost era. Maybe if Lost World had been a good (and successful) game it could mean a stronger switch towards parkour style, but alas, it wasn't.

Any posts from the sonic twitter? I want to see what that smug little shit had to say.

It's $40

Shut up I'm not hearing it.

>HURR THE PHSYICS ARE SHIT
The physics aren't shit. They're more realistic, it's not easy to run up a 90 degree angle.

>this game is getting slammed harder than all the others on the boost era
It's because everyone had gotten so used to Sonic mediocrity that Generations and Mania raised the bar to "not shit" and "great" respectively, and then this one slid right back into the shitpile.

It's not fair.

depends on the industry.

Agile was developed to work in environments where the problem the software was solving wasn't 100% understood by the developers and stakeholders alike.

Games are very complex but - I would argue, simpler to scope than comparatively complex enterprise projects. Add this to very tight deadlines and waterfall make sense.

Most of the work in making a game is modelling/animating/creating art asserts. Small changes to game mechanics snowball into huge changes to animation so it's cost imperative for studios to have a really rigid design upfront.

Can't tell if trolling or actually retarded.

I just can't see Knuckles as anything but his swole version now.

No! No! Based Jim is based! He gave that filthy Zelda game a lower than average score!
So based Jim certainly can't be a flaming fucking hypocrite and a disgusting person! His opinions are gospel!

Based Jim Fucking Sterling!
Fucking Sonic autists trying to defame his name!

Why would I be trolling? It's more realistic and perfectly fits with the realistic and serious tone of Forces.

>GUYS, WE SHOULD LET SONIC- I MEAN, THE *OTHER* SONIC...

...

It's like a 7/10 game stop crying.

>guaranteedreplies.jpg

You're right, how's sonic supposed to go through those loops when he looks like this?

...

S O N I C E D

N-nnnn-nnnnnnnnnn

Not THIS shitty
At least they bothered to keep up the smoke an mirror facade of bumpers and boost pads in generations.

you need to try a little harder to bait me, fisherman

he meant the cursed GBA port, which is absurdly broken

That's really sad. That looks pretty damn on point user, and yet Sonic Team can't even physics.

>Don't go fast enough unless you hold left to win/use broken as fuck spindash
>Mania however

Holding left to win ISN'T fast enough for those ramps in chemical plant. If you stay at the base of the ramp for long enough it brings up a prompt for the spin dash

Classic Sonic is legit the most vestigial part of Forces. A "classic game" homage that didn't need to exist because Mania exists. Of course they didn't bother making the physics actually like Sonic physics.

That's pretty impressive. Wonder where that music is from cause it's great.

"gameplay"

Whats really sad is that, with all these 3d plataformers coming up this year, it would have been the perfect time to have an actual good 3d sonic.
And they completely fucked it up.

Just like Sonic Genesis (he meant the GBA port guys), a port of a game not using the actual gameplay formula will tend to fuck up in your faces. Like retooling fucking Lost World of all games, post that webm (you know the one).

Wasn't Genesis using the Advance series engine too? What happened?

>breathes in meme
I wish this could result in a ban. I'm so sick of this shit on Sup Forums and how it bleed into Sup Forums

>Sonic the Hedgehog is a realistic game
Can't wait to find his blue ass at my local pet store since he's so real now.

>Sega could have just not do Sonic Forces and Mania would have been all people got this year and be 100% happy
>Sega literally going out of it's way to piss on Mania's joy
It's amazing how much Sonic Team sucks at making Sonic games.

I don't even understand it
who actually takes a deep breath before laughing?

I think that the problem here is that they could take advantage of an agile environment here.

Sonic Team should have focused on a base engine and tools first. You can run monthly deliverables in SCRUM and Agile like that.

After a good few iterations on the toolsets, you can start designing and level design. Once you have a good base toolset, then designers will compensate for the shortfalls of the tools. And, since the "customer" stakeholder for the engine developers would be the designers themselves, then they could get feedback relatively quickly and iterate.

My guess is that they did the traditional Japanese style of development here, which is: Manager said this, so I guess we do that or be given a desk in the corner coding sonic porn all day.

He meant the GBA Port of Sonic 1, often referred to as "Sonic Genesis". It was well known for it's horribly broken physics and camera issues.

I can't remember what I read exactly, but I think it was that the Genesis assets didn't gel with the engine.

>You think you want it but you don't

>When this is actually the way Iizuka thinks
Guy needs to get fired already

In just one game it feels like all of that momentum built up from Unleashed all the way to Mania is gone. It's like the franchise itself is mimicking the games its based off of. Seriously, where do we go from here?

He's retarded

>Don't advance the series at all
>WE DON'T WANT TO STEP BACK
What'd they mean by this

But user, they advanced the series by introducing weapons that one hit kill all enemies and require no strategy or skill
they definitely hadn't already done weapons with more depth 12 years ago

Man, I think I have second-hand embarassment for Sega
They released THIS right after a game made by gaijins which was praised as the best sonic games in ages

>Sonic Mania: 86
>Sonic Forces 58
Yowch

They are afraid of 06. Instead of being component beings, Jap developers alway go to the absolute extreme in regards to critical reception. Instead of just realizing it wasn't that Sonic's friends were bad, it's that the half ass gameplays they are tied to were bad, or 06 was just a unpolished alpha build or the fucking beasty shit with Elise was all the bad parts of that game, and looked at what really worked in past game, Sonic Team wouldn't be the piece of shit it is today.

working in Jap corporations is all about attributing blame.
Do you know who is good at attributing blame? Generally, people that don't do much work, or whom are the problems themselves.

Good employees get the hammer, fresh blood is brought in, and the cycle starts over. Jap management rarely gets the axe.

-t. user working in the Japanese corporate environment.

No FUCKING way. This is the same shit that happened in a weird romhack I bought for the gameboy back in the 90's.

>sonic engine on roblox has drift

Hi guys i didnt play generations but i still posted about it which you can read here

THIS IS APPARENTLY WHAT WE WANTED GUYS

Man fuck off, it's fun

youtube.com/watch?v=j1pmCn0Q1cs&t=0s

that is actually kinda impressive
it's amazing what you can do on a game with such a shitty community
