>localisation is so bad that almost 100% of the entire script has to be re-written and re-voiced and enemies and locations have to be re-translated
God damn, NISA must be fucking furious with the idiot they had localise the game.
>localisation is so bad that almost 100% of the entire script has to be re-written and re-voiced and enemies and locations have to be re-translated
God damn, NISA must be fucking furious with the idiot they had localise the game.
More like they didn't give a shit and only "cared" when Falcon wasn't happy.
>Falcon
Fucking autocorrect.
dumb phoneposter
>Outbid Xseed to steal the franchise away from them
>Treat it like shit
Xseed must be livid.
I'm taking a shit and I must shitpost.
>maximum shitposting efficiency
I can respect that, user.
Looking up the names of the two translators on the game, Minori Kato and Moet Takahashi yields barely any results. Kato is listed as the translator for Grand Kingdom, but that's it. How was the translation for that game compared to this Google Translate tier shit?
I haven't heard any whining about Grand Kingdom's localization despite seeing people talk about it.
I never played much Grand Kingdom but I don't think I noticed anything off about it.
>Nisa: Okay guys we're gonna fix the translation and the PC release in month or so
>Later
>Nisa: Uhhh I don't think we'll be able to do this in a month guys
But user, you can't possibly be that mad at a machine
It's the editors who are at fault. Translators just turn it into English so of course it will be unreadable shit. The editors are the ones who are meant to localize that text into something readable that makes sense.
>How was the translation for that game
Surprisingly good. The grammar was at least not redundant and the characters felt fleshed out through the game's story. It's one of the examples of a localization effort that is done perfectly.
Though admittedly I tune it all out because I'm busy being at War
youtube.com
I mean, they were probably thinking "ah, proof read it and make minor changes when necessary until they actually looked at their own localisation and realised the whole thing needed to be overhauled.
That is a good thing. A month for shit fixes would have had so many cut corners and even more google translate tier garbage.
>Japanese translators
I think I found your problem.
I do agree that the editors seem at fault but all of the editors for this game have worked on dozens of previous NISA titles, which is weird.
I'd expect a translator to at least distinguish between "big hole" and "crevice" even when just giving a raw TL to an editor.
It's pretty clear this is the first and last time Falcom works with NISA. Good fucking riddance.
>they need to redo the fucking voice acting for the dialogue
Shit, that is serious.
You don't want a non-native translator working on these - at least, not alone. A native speaker of the language is far more likely to have a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of it. The editors all have English sounding names, which is the important part.
>mfw NISA is in trouble due to half assing or messing up their work
>lost all their big money makers like Dangan Ronpa
>trying to get new projects like Falcom games but fucked up super hard in the process
They are lucky Disgaea exists to even justify their jobs and salaries.
I'm more that I'm joking about how they genuinely thought they could fix it in a month.
>lost all their big money makers like Dangan Ronpa
?
>Disgaea even exists
The brand sure exists but all the talent no longer works at NIS
Didn't Nisa lost another serie like neptunia or something ?
I'd like them to at least translate Coven.
Whoops, mixed it up with something else, can't remember what it is.
It was ambitious but I think it was a statement that was made at the same time as a punishment being dealt out to the team who caused this fiasco in the first place.
One of those "you better get this shit ready in time, or else!" sort of deals.
in a way they did since the main DR dude said he's done with it for a while
nisa was so bad with neptunia that idea factory made an english branch to handle it themselves and remade the nisa games to retranslate them
NISA won't change shit, they'll just do what Japanese businessman and politicians do, try hard to save face
>bow
>we're sorry
>bow again
>we're very sorry
>bow more
>this won't happen again
>bow even harder
>we're very ashamed
then do nothing to actually change what caused the problem and just do it again after the public calmed down or forget about it
That would happen in a world where they weren't a niche developer.
That wasn't why they formed IFI. Don't make shit up.
mfw Xseed gets sen 3 and sen 4 while NISA manages to fix this mess by summer 2018.
Not like it matters, sen 3 was so shit I'm done with the series.
>Xseed still blacklisted by Kadokawa so we'll never get jap dub
kek
Why?
>Xseed still blacklisted by Kadokawa
Oh snap, what happened?
Did Sean cave and come back to redo his lines or did he still nope the fuck out of there?
That's the first I've ever heard of that, what happened?
You're retarded. The "native" side should always be on the language the work is getting translated TO, not FROM. You want someone who understands the subtleties of English far more than someone who understands the subtleties of Japanese, but can't put them into English words.
>but can't put them into English words
That's literally the job of the editors.
>distinguish between "big hole" and "crevice"
The translation is literally big hole, though.
They probably didn't even know there was an english equivalent of the name already, and only worked with the jap text.
steamcommunity.com
But take it with a grain of salt because not much was proven.
Still wondering why it's only Xseed that can't get dual audio for their games.
>That's literally the job of the editors.
What do you do when the third rate native gives you gibberish based off of 300 year out of date definitions, though? Editorial work can only go so far, it's far better for the first pass to at least make sense in the language the editor speaks.
The JP game already had the english name next to the JP name, it said crevice.
Grand Kingdom is just bad. The fastest way to level up is through war campaigns. Yet the only hope of survival is if other players do not send level 60's into the war effort.
It was fun decimating eleven teams of level 20's, only to get wiped out by a single high-level team
I know, but I'm saying the translators probably never had access to that text, so they only went with the direct meaning.
>tfw spelunking in the big hole
>Shitty Japanese company bans a localization company because they wouldn't blindly sign a contract
I'm amazed anyone even still does business with Asian companies. The disgusting practices of classic Nintendo (having small studios sign away the rights to their game) were industry standard in Japan at the time.
You are legit retarded if you believe a word of that.
>when you learn Japanese and no longer have to deal with third rate translations from fourth rate companies
Localisation companies are parasites. It's hilarious that some of you battered wives take their side.
How bad was Sen 3?
I thought it was pretty alright, Kurt grew up on me. Juna is a big fat nothing though.
Be sure to get Sen 4 when it comes out ;^)
Hopefully Falcom will learn that NISA shouldn't be allowed near any game ever.
>Only one person works on a project
There were dozens of people that signed off on this translation
The only people that NISA are mad at is Falcom, for actually caring about the translation quality of their product
Falcom and GUST are dying in Japan. They know NISA's reputation but that Disgaea 5 Complete money pays for future translations.
>kadokawa
Call me fully surprised.
Some people are just mad Sen 3 was yet another setup story on the level of Sen 1, they thought Sen 3 was going to be the finale, and there's also some pretty zany plot twists that didn't please many people
Gust are safe aslong as KT wants to keep them around. They were bought to put out niche RPGs for loyal fans and they will do so for KT because it looks good for the publisher. Their games don't need to break 50,000 to be considered a success.
Falcom don't have such security though.
>Archeozoic Big Hole
sounds like something from a fucking touhou game
Wasn't NISA the company that had a fight with fucking Compile Heart and that's why they no longer work with them? How can someone fucking fight with CH they will publish literally anything!
Have you ever played Touhou game?
Why was Iffy International created them?
>Fantastic Blowhole
>BGM: The Dark Blowhole
I think SA's stage 1 is what he was referring to.
>retranslate games internally
>do as bad a job as NISA ever did
Why did they even bother.
>More like they didn't give a shit and only "cared" when Falcom wasn't happy.
Why? Falcom can't write for shit.
Cant believe somebody get paids for opening up the game scripts and google translate everything in it.
