I liked Gold&Silver's graphics.
The colors were nice.

Gold and Silver were so easy on the eyes. Maybe Blue/Red being so hideous helps.

I played GBC as a kid and even with nostalgia the colours give me eye cancer. GBA was a fucking blessing after that.

...

It's really easy to forget how old Shantae is

...

What game is bottom second from right?

I unironically think the original SMB has an amazing aesthetic and looks better than most other 2d games, Mario world and Mario 3 included

is there a word/phrase to describe attachment to things that are results of technological limitations?

Whats the game in the middle of the top row?

I think it's resident evil gaiden

...

The original GBC games that had black and white mode tended to be more garish and limited than those were GBC-exclusive (Oracle of Seasons/Oracle of Ages is a great example). The Game Boy Color actually had some cool expanded-color modes that were rarely used. Pic related is one that did use it (The Fish Files).

Survival Kids. Same series as Lost in Blue for the DS.

ludditism
nostalgia
technical minimalism
"the absence of limitations was the enemy of art" - orson welles
"less is more"

limitations can really improve games sometimes.

I liked the boss sprites in this one

Where 2 get roms and isos for VBA?
Also update vba?

i thought there would be something more specific, i mean "nostalgia" doesn't really fit because often the technological limitations produce really good results (like you said art from adversity etc)

luddites where "radicals" who were worried that technological advancement might leave them without a job, they weren't opposed to technological advancement, just its adverse effects on them personally. it also doesn't really work since saying "the technological limitations of the gba resulted in some really nice artstyles/good soundtracks" doesn't necessitate objecting the artstyles/soundtracks that have been made with those limitations removed

it feels like there should be a word for it since its a very specific but regularly occuring phenomenon

Most GBA have washed out colors though

Pokemon Gen 2, Wario Land 2 + 3, and Link's Awakening DX are top tier comfy
