I'm playing through .Hack GU for the first time now that Last Recode is out.
I just finished volume 1, is there any stuff that it's worth finishing before moving on? I read about people collecting a ton of the weapon skill beginner books, is there some unlock later tied to them? Should I bother handing out Bikman's fliers to everyone? Are there any hidden sidequests?

Skill books just help make the skill grind less tedious.
The only hidden quest I remember involves going through the forums and finding a guy talking about a chest that won't open.

Kill the doppelganger and do the abyss quest. Plus get those skill books. You get OP as fuck weps in vol 2 if you kill dopple in vol 1. Plus at vol 3 you get the best armor and accessory in the game making you practically invincible.

I did that and then nothing else happened after the fight, do i just keep playing and reading the forum or did i miss something?

check the forums again.

The forum updates with a new thread with a new key word you have to do it 3 times then you can do the abyss quest.

Alright, thanks.
I might get on that skill book farming thing anyway, unless there's a faster way to max out my dual sword/big sword skill levels

post best NPCs

It is a grind in the arena and you don't get any customize items to boost it up till vol 3. The bike missions in vol 2 give them out for collecting chims during the races. So farm them now.

I wonder how big of an industry prostitution in The World would be

Do you think these kinds of players feel awkward when there's someone in their party or guild who just acts like a completely normal person playing a game?

>Player 1: "Train and strive for victory. Bring honor to the guild!"
>Player 2: "I don't mind, but I have a test coming on Friday and I really need to study. Also I'm going to see a movie with friends tomorrow."
>Player 1: "Very well. Fulfill your obligations, the guild shall not hold it against you."
>Player 2: "Yeah, thanks. Anyway, see ya!"

Fuck i love these games so much. I wish we got links, or at least a proper translation for it.

Anyone know the "perfect" area codes for vol1? The one with Mecha grunty, the battle area, and the lucky animal right by spawn.

>Delta essential black in-laws
I only remember this cause niggers

I just started the first game, never played before. So much shit to go through before you actually play, I feel swamped with story that doesn't actually go anywhere but I guess that'll change soon
Why is the game super dark (like brightness-wise) at times ?

Man, I'm in Vol 3 right now, and there really is just nothing to these games, is there? I realize they probably had no budget, but there is just nothing to fucking do in them. All the biggest quests are nothing but grinding shit in random dungeons. There's exactly 2 extra bosses post game that might take you more than seconds to beat. None of the battles are interesting or require some kind of preparation to beat, even if you're underleveled.

Should have just made some kind of mech game with expanded Avatar battles, since that's clearly where all the money went.

I just spent 4 hours relogging and checking the guild shops for some seal of ching chong because it was the last accessory i needed to complete the list. End my fucking existence.

here is the thing, the change is more noticeable if you do something, like 1 fight in the arena

I think the game by default is at the lowest possible gamma setting, I remember going in the settings in the main menu and seeing that it was at something like -10

Playing the .GU games and by extension .hack in general for the first time, what am I in for and what are some tips

the gameplay is shit and so is the story. so make sure you get cheat engine to speed through everything

for some reason the battle arena is not appearing

I played through the games awhile ago on PS2. The battle system is a big deal, it's fun real-time action, and so are the avatar fights, but unfortunately, nothing really pushed the boundaries in that aspect. The game is an entire grind to 100% on whatever arbitrary quest you're interested in.

I really loved the avatar battles but even though they could capitalize on their difficulty, they didn't, and they were too easy too.

It's a shame too because I thought the series had a lot of potential, on it's own and to build into a good game, but it didn't. Ovan's arm is just some weird mutation thing, not an end of the world device that needs to be sealed in. All the mysticism I read about secret bosses and epitaphs from the previous .Hack series/games is mostly gone.

Glad I'm out of that phase now.

Anyone asking what to do/where's the challenge: go fight the Dopple.

niggers stole it

>where's the challenge: go fight the Dopple
backstab+beast awakening

It still takes a bit to win. That's probably the biggest challenge in all 3 games desu.

What... why?

Ah makes sense I'll check it out
