There are people who have spent the past two decades playing video games.

There are people who spent the last decade playing a single video game.

There are people who dropped out of school to become pro players in video games.

There are people who have gone broke paying for video games.

There are people who are neglecting their children because they spend all their time playing video games.

There are people who give up on life because they prefer to escape into a fantasy.

There are people who are so addicted to games, that they post on image boards about video games when they are not playing.

My question is, would these people be failures not matter what, or have video games played a significant role in making them select self destructive life choices.

Non of those things normal people claim to be respectable, gamers will fight you tooth and nail about their games being a respectable entertainment. Some gamers even claim, that their games are "art"

I didn't fail out of school but I nearly did back in high school my grades were fine but I skipped so many days that had I of missed one more or even of been late I would've failed senior year all to play WoW and these days I'm a social failure who has no interaction with anyone but my family outside the internet all of my few friends are online.

I don't necessarily think that video games had anything to do with it though, they've definitely enabled my failures but I think having shitty parents who didn't want a kid and paid for an internet and wow sub from the time I was ~10-11 and then eventually my own personal computer just so they didn't have to deal with me was a much bigger factor

I really don't I've tried but I'm beyond hope at this point, I tried going to a doctor once to explain my problems and literally couldn't speak because I'm a stuttering retard who's spent his whole life doing nothing but talking to people online, they managed to get the gist of it though and recommended me to a psych who made me feel extremely uncomfortable and wanted me to talk a ton and I've never tried again, I just don't see how I could change to suddenly being normal, having friends irl (something I've literally never had I don't even know what a real friend is) and going out regularly. At this point I'll just stick to my video game friends and the occasional feeling of loneliness and inadequacy.

Thankfully I got a girlfriend after highschool which made me realize playing video games seriously and to 'win' was a waste of time. If you are someone who plays games competitively please stop. Don't waste your highschool social life like I did. Nobody will care if you are good at a video game in 5 years time. They'll care about what skills you can bring to the table.

I often to go my local coffee shops and discuss with the local community about politics. I even have a blog that I have been updating for a few years. It improved my interpersonal skills and my writing skills. What did you do in that time? fap to anime and play video games before doing that all over again?

I stopped playing video games a few years ago and managed to complete an engineering program and learned some coding skills along the way. I noticed that life stopped moving as quickly when I was forced to sit down and actually think about things. Try doing this on your own. Take a timer and set it to 60minutes and start playing video games, the timer will be up and you will think to yourself "its only been a 10 minutes". Do it again, this time try to learn something, after 5 minutes you will think that 2 hours has gone by.

Leave your toys behind, they are causing you to transport yourself into the future at an accelerated pace.
